I work for Hospice. We had a patient (this was several years ago) who was related to the dupont family. She had a bad habit of treating the staff (nurses and nurses aides) as servants which I suspect came from her upbringing. We knew the family had alot of money and I will admit I don't know how closely related she was with the Dupont family, but I was informed that they were related. Her insurance was so good that she only had to pay .49 cents a day for our facility that at the time charged $250 a day. Sadly she passed almost 2 years later which is a longer stay then any other patient we had ever had.
I am from Kentucky and have stayed in the DuPont lodge near Cumberland Falls many times. It's in need of updating and don't go if you can't put down your internet devices but the hiking and nature are outstanding.
I used to live in a town named DuPont. It’s about 45 miles south of Seattle and right next to the military base there. It was originally an explosive manufacturing plant with a “village” that was built for their employees and their families. Some of the original homes are still there and in use. Pretty interesting history there.
It's been awhile, but In Delaware, a very wealthy man who is allegedly one of the duponts, was convicted of molesting his daughter and recieved something ridiculous like 2 years probation. It recieved some national press
My great uncle retired a chemical engineer with a 50year service pin, my dad was starting at the experimental station around that time. I worked in the Hagley museum exhibit lab in the early 70s. Beautiful museums in a compact “chateaux country” setting is worth exploring.
The DuPonts are ranked 13th on America's wealthiest families list, but as there are now a lot of DuPonts their wealth has become somewhat spread out. They still control the company through family trusts.
My late grandmother worked for Esther duPont and knew Willis, her brother, in Palm Beach Florida. They were extremely kind and generous to her. And they didn’t mind us unruly kids running around their estate.
Read this story. The lawyer that became duponts worst nightmare. It’s about the toxic waste dump in West Virginia next to a cow farm, it’s sad how many people have died due to this family and how many people “politicians “ have been bought out by them.
What was not mentioned here and I am from the east coast is that after Dupont patented nylon, they helped push to make hemp and cannabis illegal so that they can take over the Rope business one year after they patented nylon cannabis was illegal
You missed Du Pont's (along with Ford, Rockefeller and other pillars of society) input into building of Adolf's war machine. An interesting chapter you might revisit.
A close relative worked for a distant but still wealthy relative of the them & the husband , the one who was born into the family , was horrible to his wife . Like monster horrible
Corporate America is a weird enough place that a company's stock price often rises when a liability can finally be quantified. Perhaps out of fear it could be astronomically (usually billions) higher. PS lawyers on both sides probably "celebrate" an announcement too
Lived in delaware all my life duponts name is on everything which is good and bad . A lot of cancer in my state and a lot of health care with the DuPont name on both. Take the good with the bad.
Actually, the holding in GM was owned by Pierre Samuel II (who also controlled Du Pont) and not the company. I've toured three of their estates: Longwood Gardens, Nemours, and Winterthur. Alfred Du Pont left the company; moved to Florida and created the St Joe Paper Company. I have a question about the 1890 political marriage: just who married who (those are photos of Jesse Ball, 3rd wife of Alfred and the 1st Eluthere Irenee who died in 1824 - E.I II died in 1877)?
I live in Delaware and the DuPonts bought this state when they paid for the major highways. Sure u can marry your sister and have kids, just build a highway we will look the other way. Talk about keeping it in the family there literally all related incense whys
What about there influence on the hemp industry, had hemp put alongside with the drug cannabis and make it illegal.. there money was in cotton and chemicals.lm born bred cotton country, damage to flora, fauna and humans the cost is immeasurable, or measurable if you're a dupont $$$
Most people don't know that Dupont was very instrumental in the Manhattan project. During WWII they built the B reactor at Hanford in Washington state. Their engineering was top-notch, built in extra fuel ports in the reactor core eventhough the scientists didn't think they would need them. Well when the reactor was started they found they did need more fuel ports and they were already there to use. This insight save the reactor and plutonium was produced for the Fat Man bomb dropped on Nagasaki. Thank God for Dupont.
I wanted to order a lighter from their website, but they don't want customers unless they are spending £175 min. That's money when you don't want poor customers
Supposedly, I'm related to the DuPonts by marriage. I don’t know a single DuPont. Maybe that's why nobody ever thought of me when passing around all of that old money. Never got a holiday invite either.

Why did you (deliberately) leave out John du Pont, the convicted murderer? I felt his malignant "presence" in my life on the east coast in an interesting round-about way. John bought the most expensive stamp in the world (British Guiana 1 cent magenta) in 1980. Nobody else was EVER able to see it because he went to prison for murdering Dave Schultz. Even Du Pont was NOT allowed to bring his stamps into prison to view. Only after he died (in prison, 2010) was the stamp sold in 2014.
You're talking more about some supposed prestige rather than their products, production, or Portraits. Hollywood actors just don't do it amounts to a load of waffle.
Yes In africa , the people who founded the country and so forth . In america though it would be exceptionally difficult for a black person to be old money their wealth /assets could be taken and destroyed without scrutiny I’m sure some survived though
James Forten, an african american man, born 1776. Developed technology that allowed him to manufacture ship sails more efficiently than competition. At time of his death was easily one of the wealthiest, if not the wealthiest man in Philadelpia.
My great great uncle came from France and after helping great great uncle new him from France but my great uncle uncle went to Delaware to bring nitroglycerin into better use.
I worked on fishers island NY and DuPont’s have a huge house there the old coast guard house . I actually beat the crap out of a Rafferty boy there , skippy DuPonts cousin .
COMMENT: And you are a native of the American East Coast and have seen - or felt - the presence of the DuPont name in your life?
I thought the co£oni$ers exterminated all the natives?

Sadly? Lol if she was mean why so sad😅? Nobody gets a pass even if they’re old
Wild story!

The Dupont, Olin and Necco sites in Niagara Falls are a tragic legacy.
So many employees suffered health problems working their.

Apparently that’s a myth.

They are owners of huge textile manufacturing companies and what i read makes sense to me.

Very Instructive, Bravo !
Glad you liked it!

A 16.5 million dollar settlement is not sizable. They probably celebrated that behind closed doors
😬

I’m from Idaho… it is not just the east coast that is familiar with the DuPont name… even before the internet
You left out the DuPont who committed murder.
Oh John du Pont who killed Dave Schultz in 1996. The movie Foxcatcher (2014) is about this
We’ve covered it before but we’ll probably do a separate video on this!
Royce?

Gunpowder and chemistry.

My name is Sam Oates and demi the dog and this narrator is such a perfect wordsmith
".... Luminosity often draws shadows"
Morality and ethics take a backseat when war is your business.
The 2014 movie Foxcatcher talks about John du Pont’s murder of Dave Schultz. Steve Carrell of 40 Year Old Virgin fame portrayed him
Great film
DuPonts & Dunlop families are identical .
How our families & Their generation empires collapsed when British arrived in Ceylon soil
The company is DuPont. The family are du Pont.
You don’t even know
What about there influence on the hemp industry, had hemp put alongside with the drug cannabis and make it illegal.. there money was in cotton and chemicals.lm born bred cotton country, damage to flora, fauna and humans the cost is immeasurable, or measurable if you're a dupont $$$
Hi very good, thank you; they should teach this in school. This would better every one.
We agree!

😮
I live 30 minutes from hanford
he just went 4 the money . dupont still does this today .
Some of the nicest people around. I’ve been in their homes many times.
$16million to them is like a needle in a haystack but its only significance is the bad press which old money families don't like
Very good documentation- thank you. Only the generation of my grandmother know something about the Duponts (in Germany).
Our pleasure!
Yeh, Yeh, my grandmother's grandmother in Catalunya, Spain knew something about the Duponts (in France)
Who is the long haired blonde person in the thumbnail?

😁
different DuPont
An old friend was married to a dupont ended in divorce & he did not come out on the winning side
Well, somebody has to make it!
Is this paid for by Dupont 😊
Supposedly, I'm related to the DuPonts by marriage. I don’t know a single DuPont. Maybe that's why nobody ever thought of me when passing around all of that old money. Never got a holiday invite either.
Definitely one of the most evil family's in existence to this day
My father, before he was my father, was hoping to marry into the family (money).
the footage includes a documentary where Australian men on the street in the 60s are asked if they ever saw a UFO... 🤔

I’m unfamiliar with them since I’m a native of SoCal, but damn they sound shady like the rest of the rich families
😬
Are there any black or families of color who have old money ?
