The Kia EV6 is one of our favourite electric cars of the moment, and this EV6 GT range-topper brings incredible performance courtesy of a 577bhp all-wheel-drive powertrain. Is this just an expensive Kia, or is it a genuinely a cut-price alternative to the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and Porsche Taycan? Editor Richard Ingram took the GT for a spin to find out...

Stop buying the badge and buy the performance, simple as that.
The market's changing wild, especially in EV sector.
In fact, with a little research, you'll realize who's actually both the badge and the performance in the current EV market.

I remember in the 90’s people would avoid LG/Samsung like it was the plague and now look. The exact same thing is happening with Kia/Hyundai. Working their way to the top

The main difference is that the yellow button is green. Seems like a cool car. Great design, practical shape and quicker to 60 than a Giulia Quadrifoglio - would be a sweet daily driver.

Just a little remark to your contest. In sweden and norway, they use a rougher tarmac, than Denmark, germany etc. In all ev’s i have tried there is a significant increase in roadnoise, from the wheels when driving in sweden and norway compared to for instant Denmark. It migth have something to do with the volder climate in wintertimes.

I agree about the markup on this thing in the USA is going to be astronomical. See some dealerships asking up to $70K for the GT line. Guessing this thing might be $90K to be one of the first to get one. This was a great review btw as it answered my questions as to how it would be to drive on regular roads and not just on a track. Great value no but once I felt that acceleration at a stop light I might not care. I will look for the GT line for now as even they are hard to get right now.

Trim & button looks green at my end, bit yellow 😉

  • @jimji2774

April of 2023 and a local dealer in the US only needs about $64K for the GT. I loved my test drive but I think the more apt question is whether those upgrades in suspension and acceleration are worth the drop in range of nearly 50 miles. If you don't need to road trip this thing and you enjoy having some fun on occasion then the GT might be the right choice..Personally I like having the extra 100 hp or so in normal mode over the lower trim models like the GT line or Wind so I am favoring the GT. Would likely work on making those seats a little less aggressive though for everyday drives which shouldn't be that hard to do.

  • @Xetenor

I don't even want to know what the markup will be that the dealers will do. These damn kia dealerships have gotten super greedy thinking they selling ferrari's or something. Not to mention their service in general is less to be desired. But the GT is definitely a great addition to their line up and taking kia to new levels that they never got into before. I think I'll wait for EV cars to get more refined and charging to become bit more available and standard before I think about getting an EV in the future.

I was excited about EVs but now I'm mostly frustrated. Where are the smaller, more affordable EVs? Europe has them, China has them, for the most part the US does not have them. EVs will never become common until prices come down. If that means range of 200 miles instead of 300 and horsepower under 300 instead of over 500, that's ok. Keep having the high dollar EVs available but not the only ones available. The Chevy Bolt has the right idea, I'd prefer RWD but a starting price of 26k is exactly what we need. And it still goes 260 miles on a charge and has 200 hp.
