Possibly The Fastest Way To Improve Your Chip Shots Around the Green

- In this golf lesson Danny Maude shares what is quite possibly the easiest way to chip a ball on to the green I've ever seen. Chipping around the green can be the source of frustration for so many golfers but I guarantee you will never see an easier way to chip a golf ball than this.
Here’s what you are going to learn:
1. Chipping is not that different to putting you simply use a club that has more loft - Putting with loft
2. Every golf shot is an arc and it’s simply a matter of where you strike the ball on that arc and with what loft that will determine contact and flight
3. So to be great at chipping you have to have a chipping technique that is great at delivering the desired loft every time.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On UA-cam and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

This golf lesson provides a couple of wonderful drills to help you hit your driver straight. If you are a beginner golfer and are looking for some golf driver tips that are simple and easy to do then you are going to love this.
I will show you the golf swing slow motion so that you can see what you need to do to improve.
We look at 3 things:
1. How to stop slicing your driver
2. How to swing more in to out or how to swing more inside out
3, How to get the correct impact position with driver
and I hope to do all this with simple golf tips so you can create an effortless golf swing - Спорт
Danny, so simple and effective. The person who wants shorter videos, please ignore that, they just need to find the time as the tips are worth it
Thank you
Actually, I find Danny's videos shorter than many others ... his videos are the best ones I have watched.
Couldn't agree with you more! Those people( bless their hearts) will, as Martin Hull says, "keep doing what your doing, and you'll keep getting what you doing". Those seeking a quick fix, will never make long term changes.
@@1958LittleLarryG I like to see it as a paid lesson and give you as much value as possible. I think I would feel short changed if a coach gave me two minutes and walked off
@@DanielMaude nicely put Danny. About 20 years ago I had Steve Richardson (he of 90’s Ryder Cup fame) give me a lesson locally.
I was brilliant for a bout 2 whole days - then it faded as ever.
At least with yours there is always a point of reference to return to 👍🏻👍🏻
I really enjoy Saturdays videos. I'm in my sixties and play off high single figures. I'm actually playing better and with more confidence after following the videos all Winter. Well done Danny. Shame the videos weren't available a few decades ago when I first started playing.😂
Glad you like them Patrick
Thank-you Danny. Great chipping lesson. Will take this to the course.
I have been using the putting technique for my chipping and I find it very effective. Liam did well and hopefully he gained confidence from your tips. As always great content Danny.
Started playing golf about 7 months ago and still have a long way to go, but your videos have taken me from shooting 125 to just under a hundred in a few months! Keep up the great videos!
That’s wonderful to hear Isaiah
You are the most valuable person of all my subscriptions. #1 in my list! You have changed my swing and game play like i never imagine possible. I struggled with short distance iron shots, slicing, slice drives and chipping for so many years...... I found you while searching how to get more distance with an iron and stumbled upon your video teaching how to strike down on the ball, position, towl swing, etc. You have transformed my swing to what i only dreamed of for many years. Since then i spent so much time watching many of your other videos. Now, I only search your channel if I want to learn anything else in golf. Thanks a MILLION!!!!
That’s really kind thank you, appreciate your support
love it, simple and effective
Read my mind, Danny! I’ve been watching your older chipping videos for the past few weeks to start the season. I was specifically looking one for around the green - especially those close, short shots (#3 in this video) and you delivered as always! Thanks for all you do!
@brandoneinstein that’s great. I’m really pleased. Thank you so much for your comments. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
You make these lessons really simple and easy to understand. well done Danny..
Glad you like them John
All your instruction has been super helpful. Here’s a video idea. How to get back in the swing of things, now that the golf season is back. How to prepare for that first round of the year. Cheers 😊
Terry Cork
Great lesson Danny, this is where you can make or loose the game.
Love these videos every week danny
Glad they are helping Chris 👍
I really needed this. This will minimize my short chip anxiety. Thank you!
Love to hear how you get on
@@DanielMaude I tried it today. It went rather well. Out of 5 chips using a PW (wasn’t comfortable going to a lower loft) only 1 went horribly wrong. I simply had too much tension in my arms and shoulders. My aim was slightly off on the other 4, but the distance was good. I’m sure my aim will work itself out in time.
One of the best short game videos I’ve watched! You’ve created a simple motion, and by adding your camera man into the video made the video more relatable! Seeing him blade a ball over the green and then you fix him is inspiring and give me confidence that I can go out and hit better chip shots with this knowledge next time I’m playing. Thank you Danny! Well done
Thanks Sam glad you found the video helpful 😁
Followed and practiced your chipping advice for a while now Danny. Made a massive difference and improvement to my game. Cheers 👍🏻
Wonderful to hear Mark
Excellent lesson. Really like the tags on the situation and the club used. Very helpful marking the club used. Thank you!
@ajbusse502 really pleased you enjoyed my video. Thank you so much for your feedback 🙏🏻
Perfect timing! Just what I needed!
@gordy8850 you are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you 🙏🏻
I love this lesson, Danny! It makes chipping much simpler and less intimidating. Thanks for helping me clear out my overly complicated swing thoughts around the green!
You are very welcome
What I really like about this lesson is how it builds upon another lesson you released a few weeks back. Trying to learn something new every week is difficult and I appreciate reinforcing core techniques for consistency.
@johnpanico4923 thank you so much for your comments. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
which video??
I learnt a lot from your chipping videos! Thanks for all the great tips, Danny!
My pleasure!
Thanks Danny! Another stellar lesson. Your instruction is super to follow and implement. Best UA-cam channel!
@ryankohler thank you so much for your lovely comment. It really means a lot. Really pleased you enjoyed my video 🙏🏻
great video can't wait to try this Danny, thanks
All the best Jim
Thank you for a clear, easy to follow, very helpful video.
Leo emphasised that we CAN DO IT .
Danny's ideas are suitable for average golfers as well as low handicap players.
@alangoudie2299 really pleased you enjoyed the video. Thank you for your comments 🙏🏻
"A drop shot in tennis". Finally the right words for my brain to understand! Thanks Danny!!
@joshro32 you are very welcome. Thank you 🙏🏻
Great lesson Danny very helpful. Thanks as always and have a great weekend
Thanks, you too Julian
Danny your content is just a breath of fresh air. Nothing over complicated but effective & easy to follow. Yes we have to put some practice in to improve and my short game is terrible. But I'm going to practice this method thank you so much for all the great content.
@garrytaggart2431 thank you so much for your lovely comments. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
The great Raymond Floyd also described chipping as "putting with loft ". That thought has helped me a great deal over the years. Keep it up Danny. The video length is what it a real lesson would be like. It covers different lies and clubs. Excellent
@markpoppe8681 Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
love the new vids with avg golfers great stuff danny
Thank you!
Great video Dan . I’ve saved so many shots getting up and down keeping the handle up toe down chip and running around the greens with this putting action .
Thanks Dan 👍
Great tips!!! Thank you!!! This is such an important part of the game. Love how simple you make it look, now I need to put it into practice!!
Thank you Bruce!
Danny, I played a round yesterday and tried the concept of putting with loft on my chip shots. Much more accurate, huge help. Thanks
Great to hear!
Sure liked the live student video. Makes it easy to see the errors and then the correction. Thanks. Very good video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Danny. The tip about levelling out the shoulders is what I have been missing and kept thinning it across the green!
Happy to help!
Great video Danny. I needed to watch that after the way I chipped today 😊
Glad you enjoyed it David
Needed this Danny. Simple, but easy to visualize nd replicate. Always on target my friend-Thanks,Russ
@russquick7899 really pleased you enjoyed my video. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you Danny. 😊
You are very welcome
I am at the point, just over a year of playing golf routinely, where I need to do much better around the green to reduce my scores appreciably. This is so simple, brilliantly explained and transferable to the game right away.
@chrisbonner5944 really pleased you enjoyed my video. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
I must have pre-empted this video Danny as that was exactly the way I was chipping around the greens first thing this morning. Makes total sense. Great teaching as usual.
@bestthinger that’s great. Thank you 🙏🏻
Fantastic, simple to remember and take to practice ground and course. Thanks
@user-ux8mw3hb8r thank you so much for your feedback. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
Happy Belated Birthday from New Jersey Coach!! Thank you for all the videos. My daughter is in high school and started playing. We'll be watching hours of your videos in the months to come.
@CowboysTakeover4You. Thank you for your birthday wishes. Thank you so much for your comments. It really means a lot 🙏🏻
Great video Dan 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
A friend and I have been watching your videos for many months now. We really enjoy them and have learned so much from you. I watched this video yesterday. Today, after kind of blading a shot over the green, I chipped in for a birdie from behind a green, up hill about 3' to the green in about 5" of rough exactly as you describe here. The pin was about 25' down the hill in the middle of the green. It went up in the air so perfect! Landed just on the green and rolled straight down into the hole! It was the most beautiful shot I have hit in my 30 years of golfing. Even better than my only hole in one! I had an audience up on the veranda and they all applauded! My partner had hit a great shot to the green, but sadly missed his birdie putt! Oh well. A great time was had by all and I just wanted to thank you for your great videos!
Brilliant Ben thanks for taking the time to comment and appreciate the support 😁
beautiful lesson Danny
Glad you liked it Danny
Great fundamentals!! ⛳️🏌🏻♂️
@phildieter6873 thank you 🙏🏻
Danny you keep coming with these great lessons. Thanks for all you do for us Hackers. Funny thing I played with a friend that I play a lot with and he made a comment to me on how much my short game has improved. Testament to what i have learned in your video lessons. Thanks for everything.
@randyduby4555 thank you for your lovely comments. Really means a lot 🙏🏻
It's like you watched me practice yesterday...really struggling to find my chipping stroke. Absolutely perfect timing for this video!
@kennethneward601 thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed my video 🙏🏻
This is excellent Danny! Having an amateur like me as part of your video lesson is a great visual. I’m taking this lesson to the course this week!
@johnbelder really appreciate your comments. Glad you enjoyed my video 🙏🏻
you fixed my chipping. thank you
didnt realize how such a simple change in my contact point in the arch made a difference...
Wonderful to hear
Love to see you working with an amateur! It helps to see the common mistakes come up live, and see you work him through them! Another great video Danny. :)
@rickwilson7749 thank you so much for your comment’s. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
Excellent as always
@williamburns5185 thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
Really good tutorial. Now I have to put it in practice
Have fun Harold
Ok, finally subscribed after watching 50 of your vids. I shot low-80s for years, then my game fell apart, and I've lost sight of so many of these basics. Big golf trip in 2 weeks...gotta practice!
Happy to help Bryan!
Well done Danny 👏 😊
@royclose946 thank you so much 🙏🏻
great content, yet again!
@chriscioski1684 Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you 🙏🏻
Danny, you must be psychic! Played 9 on Wednesday, only missed one of the driving fairways, yet still posted one of my worst scores for some time! Super frustrating! My short game was pants - chipping in particular! Full of indecision, poor choices, fluffed shots, you name it I did it. Another of your instructions/tips I will be taking to the garden/practice area/course! Thank you again, Ian.
@smudgesmith7007 thank you so much for your message. Really appreciate your feedback 🙏🏻
Good morning, top video as usual Danny 🏌️⛳️
Thank you Justin
Gret video and kudos to Leo for appearing and also for the execution of your advice!
Thanks Dave!
I watch a lot of golfing videos, yours is the only one I'll follow for instruction! If I open another creators video and it's an instructional, no thanks I'll stick with Danny!😁
@blakeg.1093 thank you for your comments. Appreciate it 🙏🏻
Well done - using a mate was a great way to demo. Thank you as always❤🇨🇦😁
@Iko0025 you are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you 🙏🏻
This one has REALLY improved my chips and tightened up my dispersion. Getting a lot more balls within the one putt range.
Amazing to hear
Fantastic video!
@2karencraig Thank you very much. Glad you liked it 🙏🏻
When chipping like that I always increase the weight on my left leg. Danny yesterday at the driving range I watched these young guys watching videos on their cell phones then practicing what the had seen. I looked at their cell phones and they were watching your lessons. This would be common in the UK but it was in Indonesia. So from 4 young guys in Indonesia, thank you.
@michaelblack2334 thank you so much. I really appreciate your comments. It really means a lot 🙏🏻
Love your videos and your teachings. Are you using the same grip as you would with your irons?
Putting with loft and fishes tail! Will take these thoughts to the range. Thanks Danny.
Have fun John
Love this, showing a lesson with various situations off the green. Perhaps you could do the same with approach shots within 100 yards in varying degrees of rough. Thanks, Danny and to Leo.
Great suggestion!
Can’t wait to give this fabulous drill a go. I’m 58 years old playing off mid single figs with an old style approach to chipping. It simply doesn’t work for me any more so need to work on developing a more bounce orientated chipping action. I also heard Tommy Fleetwood mention “putting with loft” which makes sense to me. Off to the practise green after lunch. Thanks for another wonderful and playable session Danny! You’re the bizz!
@stefanzietara9509 thank you so much for your comment’s. Glad you enjoyed my video 🙏🏻
Great lesson.
I taught my playing partner, a 23hcp, to chip this way and it’s transformed his short game.
He used to always pull a 60 and have this long wristy swing usually resulting in a massive thin or fat. Now he’s giving himself a decent putt 90% of the time.
Must save him 5-6 shots a round at least.
Wonderful to hear
Danny- I noticed at the beginning of the video up to around the six minute mark your student had a very poor grip with hands separated which inhibits the natural hinging action of the wrists. Then after your comment about his club action being too stiff his grip changed to a much better one with trail hand thumb pad up higher over the lead thumb which is how the Vardon-style grip works best. Did you suggest off camera that he change the grip? It’s worth mentioning I think because the most fundamental problem beginning and infrequent golfers have is with grip.
I played infrequently for twenty-some years with a poor grip until I bought one of those sort weighted clubs with a moulded grip forcing my hands into the ideal “Vardon” overlap of the thumbs which is what I discovered allows the two hands to function like a door hinge with the “pin” of the hinge located at the wrist joint. It allows the golfer to turn the club 180° with just the wrists without the momentum acting on the mass in the club head trying to pull the hands and butt of the club out towards the ball as it turns over. Another advantage I discovered with that short weighted practice club was that because it hung freely and felt heavier than a normal club it exaggerated the feel of how to club turned over in the hand through impact when the hands were together creating the ideal hinging acton versus when the trail hand is placed too low as your student did in the first five minutes.
The exercises I did with the training club on a daily basis several times a day finally trained my brain to grip the club for that ideal ‘hinge on a pin’ action through impact into the finish and that greatly improved my ball striking, especially in the short game. I still use that grip trainer on a regular basis to remind myself of what a well balanced turning over the club should feel like.
Great lesson that keeps it effective but yet simple to learn and execute. Contrary to the chipping technique of the „other“ Dan 😉
@FatihPekbas thank you for your comment. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
Fishtail! Makes so much sense
Fantastic video Danny! My poor chipping costs me lots of strokes per round. I was going to try Paul Runyon's Rule of 12 to improve it, but today's video will serve me better I think, especially when it comes to nestled lies. Thanks again Danny!
@mike92869 thank you. Really pleased you enjoyed the video 🙏🏻
Very good idea to do this, as you said very relatable. When Leo said, "Well, I'm out," I totally related with that, we would both have been delighted with that shot. 🤣 If you read this, please can you do one about getting out of really gnarly, long ruff.
The fish flap technique works! I used to do that, then people told me, swing with your body only. Glad you mention about it, tried out today at the range, I got my touch back.
Well done happy to help 😁
Great video
Started using 8 iron after this video - 25% in air 75% run out. Nearly holed out 3 times in 2 rounds - virtually all others finished within the dustbin lid. What a tip - thanks
Brilliant Chris, well done!
I practiced everything in this video in my backyard, and the applied it all on the course this past Monday. My chipping is so much better and the thought 'putting with loft' finally gave me the key to chip confidently. Great video that teaches something that really works! Thanks, Danny.
Good vidéo as usual Danny.
2 questions, (1) should the length of the backswing be similar to a putt of the same distance ? and (2) do you start the backswing with the shoulders or the arms ?
Thank you
Thanks as always Danny, the term hit the golf ball while discussing the short game should be outlawed .. the word "gather" is perfect! and you describe it that way!
Thank you Luzz!
Gonna try and get my nephew to follow this channel .. hes what id call long (yrs ) term beginner (not unlike myself with decades😜 ) whos finally trying to improve over the last yr..and he has , mostly by gear and watching the tour pros ,and what his friemds tell him ..🤷🏼♂️ hes got some very classic ideas we all have had at one point or another …like around the green you have to really lob /flop it up to green everytime ..i tried explaining how not to to him and he says the pros flop it so it has to be the right way …then says he really doesnt watch to much of the tour after i tell him no they only do that when short sided or going over an obstacle (how theres a correct shot choice/type for each situation) but he just writes me off as playing like a “cheater “ or taking the wimpy way out or something ..lol …which i have to admit a long while back i use to think this way for a hot second too 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️… he sees me doing much better around the greens , but im still a work in progress so he is not convinced…maybe Danny can get through to him …which , maybe will get him oUt scoring me…so maybe i shouldnt cue him to Danny 😜 lol
Also love the way you say “ i believe …” at the end ..it says yes , you can do it other ways ,but this is simplest for you and your students to,learn and implement ..unlike some of the other youtube “pros” who claim it’s their way or you’re doing it wrong …class act Danny!
@vicpnut1 thank you so much for your message. If you ask your son to follow my channel and watch my videos I would love to get some feedback from him 🙏🏻
@vicpnut1 thank you so much. I really appreciate it 🙏🏻
I actually use my putting grip when hitting shots similar to shot #1
@Danny what type of pressure is in hands on a chips ? Same as putting? Thanks liking your page 🏌🏼♂️⛳️👍🏻
Well done Leo, that's a lot of pressure on camera for anyone let alone a part time golfer, staying loose would be tough. Danny Maude has to be the best golf coaching channel on youtube.
@kerryobrien71 thank you so much for your comment’s. Really appreciate it 🙏🏻
@@DanielMaude 👍🙏
Would you use a putter grip for these shots, like you suggested in your other video? Or a normal iron grip but just using a putter motion for the swing?
Thank you.
Played yesterday and had my driver working but I kept leaving my irons short and off the green and suddenly I had no confidence with chipping (which is unusual for me). Great timing on the video for a refresh!
@MrGorillaspam really pleased you enjoyed the video which will hopefully help you in your next game. Thank you 🙏🏻
hi Danny love the videos can you help me as i get hooking my irons?
I tried this technique today and didn't miss any chips/pitches. It also appears to have fixed an issue I was having with hitting a chip or pitch off to the right. With my previous technique my good chips or pitches were pulled left. Didn't have either issue today. Also, I do like this format for the weekly video.
Brilliant Paul well done, thanks for the feedback 👍
Greenkeepers ! - Top top lads at our course (also known as Leo’s studio)
😂👍
I'll take that, any day of the week!
@Sleepless222 thank you 🙏🏻
I was hitting great tee shots today and then bladed every chip I had on crazy fast greens and now I’m here…
Same drives went so well and straight down the greens. Then… came the chip shot lol
Looks very easy to execute. What if anything would you do differently for a very tight lie as we have almost always in south Florida?
Hi Sandra, i would make sure to simply strike the ball first then the tight lies don’t really matter
@@DanielMaude thank you so much! Will give that a try!
Length of the backswing is really important to judging the distance of the shot, then it’s all about tempo, you must have at least 3 practice swings to set the mind, never feel rushed.
absolutely
Quick question please Danny (or anyone?!) Grip? Should we be using the putting grip or usual grip? TIA 😊
You can certainly use it for the low flighted chips
The part of the game that has become the most difficult in my advancing years 😢. Shanks ,duffs ,thins ,fats the whole spectrum of bad shots around the green. Roll on better weather and conditions around my course
Ive got this sorted now😂 😊😊😊😊
Hope this helps Daniel
Danny, this real lesson is extremely helpful. Would you please do a lesson with a female golfer? Many thanks!
Absolutely Christine
Takk!
Thank you really appreciate the support.
Officially in the Danny Maude fan club. I was laying in bed not wanting to get up when I suddenly realized it’s Saturday and I jumped up to watch a Danny Maude golf video 😊
@rw_golf6387 thank you so much for your comment. I really do appreciate it 🙏🏻
Do you use the putter grip to chip? G
Hi Danny. I know you have to hit sand before ball to get out of a bunker, but should I use the same fish tail motion?
a few days ago i went round in 101 lost so many bogeys from my chips, my score dropped down to 94 tysm danny
Well done 👍
Hi Danny,
Great tips to improve chipping.
Can you please tell how to chip a ball on an upward & downward lie. There is a lot of restrictions on the club movement
Thank you
