It doesn’t need to be fast. It needs to be fun. It’s more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. If you love it, if it’s fun, if it’s practical and usable in more scenarios then you’re still good to go.
I started on a Z125 and bought a Ninja 500 after a few months. Still ride the Z just as much as the 500 because it’s so fun and unserious to ride. Also humbles me when the 500 starts feeling slow lol
I've got my r3 a few months ago I have done over 3k miles on mine and it's definitely gotten faster after like 3k miles it gets fully broken in and u unlock a lot more of it's power
You'll definitely outgrow the the R3 quick. The hardest part about riding motorcycles is picking out the first bike in my opinion. Not everyone is in a situation where they can own more than 1 bike in a quick session. I'm not blaming and throwing fingers, but I also do believe that the motorcycle community does not do a good job of hammering info into beginner rider's heads about speed of the bikes and wanting more. They give small brief details like "you're gna want more, so just get a bigger bike". But they don't go into details on why you can start on a bigger bike just fine. Some make it seem like you're gna die instantly on a bigger bike even if you went slow on it.. and as a new rider, we have no dam idea about what and why, we just know it's dangerous so of course we'll believe that we might die on bigger bikes so we end up on these small cc bikes only to be left with wanting more. I was fortunate enough to say yolo and started on the ninja 500. I do believe i have outgrown the speed in a straight line, but this bike is fun going fast on twisties so that's where i get my joy from atm. hell, i actually still get my joy from going 120mph +. I understand that riding vets gotta becareful and not lead noob riders into unsafe situations but I wish i would've never believed all the reddit forums and all the other internet information out there lol. They all made it seem like the solo guy who suggested a bigger beginner bike was a complete moron.. only to find out he was probably the one correct. I think it falls upon whether or not you're a coordinated person or not. Do you understand manual transmission etc etc. and do you have experience with cars and understand speed difference. Even as a short rider, people who were 5'8 - 5'10 were saying they HAD to flat foot or else they won't feel comfy. I test rode a zx6r and sat on a R7 and felt just fine on both! im 5'2 with a 27inch inseam for crying out loud.
Been watching your content for a while man. Love the bike vids make me wanna vlog myself. Did the msf and got an RS660 as my first bike. No regrets. It’s fun and i got it for a steal. I could see why one would want to start on an r7 or gsx8r or similar to what i got.
nothing wrong with selling it. get your money, the bike will go to someone who NEEDS a beginner bike. the R9 is VERY sweet. the torque would be fantastic for street use. ZX-6 I love. I think ?? I couldn't tell ya which one either is a big deal compared to that. I still love the Honda's even though its roughly the same design as a 2013 and its not quite as powerful ( but you can flash it and put an exhaust on it and make it super fast ).. if it were me now? maybe I would go for the 636 because it has a few extra cc's... but based on the reaction I saw you have with the r3 in video after video-- I mean you gotta break in the next bike.. I feel my super break-in extra oil changes and switching to full synth right away have paid off big!!! but either way way, that first time you bring up the rpm even just to 10k you are going to have the GREATEST reaction ever!!! I sure hope you capture that on film. I mean if you think you smiled on the R3???? ha ha wait until you feel a super sport.. even during the break-in, keeping the rpm under 4500, its STILL gonna be more fun in my opinion just to have the solid engine breaking and sound and suspension.. but when you get that break-in done and can actually just bang it out.. and I am NOT saying anything bad about the r3, 45hp is nothing to sneeze at but it is simply not in the same class as a 600. now if you get the 1000, you will have straight up psycho power on tap. I have never owned a 1000 myself but I HAVE ridden one!!! actually I rode a CBR 954. close enough. its the natural progression. nothing wrong with it. you won't be sorry. I would not say your r3 is dated at all. it's a very modern look. for a 300 it looks legit. I saw a CBR 300 the other day and that thing looked a bit on the "skinny" side. also it's a single cylinder.. probably makes around 30 hp too. you are thinking rightly. if you had a 600, you would NEVER want to ride the r3 ever again, even on the track. I'm not saying that to be mean to the r3 which is a great bike.. I'm just telling you, once you get on a 600, its going to like activate your DNA or something.
I don't think 1000 miles is enough for a new rider to "outgrow" a "beginner" bike, but do what makes ya happy. That being said, if part of the reason is that you're riding with guys on more powerful bikes that are constantly leaving you behind, you may want to consider finding a different group to ride with instead of getting a new bike. On a related note to a comment you made, you can do clutchless upshifts under hard acceleration. I don't know why/when this information stopped being passed on to new riders. I explained how do to it one of your other videos. You may want to give it a try (just make sure you're doing it the right way).
@@Gimpthulhu appreciate the comment. Yea I’ve tried clutch-less shifting here and there, just hard to shake the muscle memory of shifting with all three components. Well at this point I’ve got more than 1k miles and ridden some other bikes too. I’m not ready quiet yet to change bikes, next riding season is when I’m thinking.
@@CloudedThoughtz When I got my first street bike (I had learned at a younger age to ride on dirtbikes) I declined offers to ride other people's bike that I knew were faster than mine, because I didn't want to quickly become dissatisfied with what I had. Though, to be fair, my first street bike was a new older model 600cc. Back then, many considered 600s as beginner sport bikes, as not many people gave much consideration to the Ninja 250. At that time, sub-600cc 4-stroke sport bikes never really came to the US market, with the exception of FZR400, and that was in limited numbers. If you do plan to ride your bike a bit longer, you may want to consider doing the R6 throttle tube swap and maybe go up a few teeth in the rear sprocket if you don't mind sacrificing a bit of top speed for more acceleration.
believe me, if he is having these thoughts now.. I give it 600 more miles. I know from my own experience. nothing wrong with what he did. nothing wrong with where he is going... the cool thing about a 600 is this. : keep the rpm down and its as weak and forgiving as the r3... but you have the option to rev it way up and tap into that > 100 hp range and WOW!!!! LETS GOOOO
@@willfest Oh, I'm not judging. If I had started out on a 300, I probably would have quickly been in the same shoes as him (though, today's lower CC four-strokes perform better than when I started). I might even still end up in his situation. I've been away from the bike life for almost 20 years, and am considering getting back in with a 300 or 400. I don't plan on riding with groups and don't need to relive the squid behaviour of my youth (like regularly cruising at a buck forty on my commute to work). I think I'd be content with a light flickable bike. The ease of turn in with a 110 / 140 tire setup on a light bike is very noticeable (unless things have changed that much) compared to a heavier bike running 120 in the front and 180 in the rear. That being said, I'm seriously considering my options. because I could easily get that itch for more power and end up in the same situation as him. Decisions... Decisions.
