I have a low dopamine baseline. The biggest dopamine drainers for me were social media and gaming. Ive been counting the days away from gaming. I reached 100 days last week of no gaming whatsoever and i definitely feel my dopamine baseline has increased. Because of this video i believe the next step for me is social media. Its time lol

You dropped gaming but not social media, huh??? I don't even get that. Social media for me has been nothing but a mental health drain and a drain on my focus but gaming has been mostly positive for me, lots of positive experiences even if I get hyperfocused on it sometimes. I could never drop gaming, the positives outweigh the negatives whereas social media the negatives always seemed to outweigh the positives.

I love gaming. I finished tomb raider series and resident evil series. I also love last of us. Gaming is my only goto after work. I think gaming is better than watching movie because you develop the patience in solving puzzles.
If you spend your day playing video game then that's on you

@@Freak80MCprobably because there is gaming, and there is GAMING. Mobile games and service ones are just terrible for you.

Social media takes advantage of negativity bias, cortisol, & anger, not dopamine, wtf are talking about? There's nothing pleasurable, or motivating about doom scrolling or social media at all. What are an ascetic, or a bad bot regurgitating bs based on collective misunderstanding about reality, only to psyop or gaslight people into becoming even more miserable in the process, all because, scientifically illiterate people don't understand how their own brains work?

There is an alternative to dopamine chasing, which is taking time to structure the tasks in a pleasant way before doing them. Then, when you do tasks, as they are in a frame, it is pleasing to do them.

Thank you for this video. I am learning how to manage my dopamine drainers. It's been a tough challenge for me everyday especially since easy access to internet makes everything so simple, ended up overloading myself with unneeded information.
Not gonna lie, actually sitting down and finishing a full 2 hours movie is so tough for me. Like I can't even make it pass 5 minutes before I pause it and look at Reddit or FB again.

Does not feel good to be a member of the low dopamine club😅. But it gives me a sense of relief and be aware of the actions I'm taking. I failed every time I tried to control this behaviour, especially when my days started with scrolling. Looking back, the days actually went better when I did not start them with reels. Will be back to post about the progress after implementing your methods.Making it short and condense actually was the reason I clicked to watch it. Great video👏👏

I relate to every single thing you mention in the video. My addiction to scrolling on Twitter made me less productive at school and work. Thankfully, I am still able to complete the tasks after procrastinating. Thanks for another insightful video.

I have a high level of dopamine naturally, but even I've felt the effects of too much screen use. I've since disabled most notifications on my phone (except from a select few loved ones and friends), gotten a physical alarm clock, and stopped using most socials. It's only been a few months but I've been surprised to see my memory improve, my health improve, my sleep improve, etc.

I am conflicted, great information and good tips but determining 'genetically low dopamine' through just 3 very general scenarios feels a little irresponsible.
The problem with calling something genetic is that then that person knows they can't do much to fix it, or they have to keep at it or they will just fall behind and go back to their genetic predisposition.
So someone might have genetically low dopamine or some might not, I personally have observed those 3 scenarios you described for a long period of my time, I was depressed, unmotivated, stuck in rut. I wasn't doom scrolling on my phone but I was doing other similar things which just drain the mental energy to do anything else. I don't think mine is a genetics. Because I wasn't like that nor am I like that anymore. Well almost.
I am not completely out of it but I am lot more productive with some simple changes in my life, including some of the ones you described at the end.
Some big or small life changes can do a lot of good, simple good habits away from devices just naturally make you more attentive and getting that baseline dopamine becomes easier.
Thank you for all the information and yes I learned a lot from Andrew Huberman. So I guess we had the same teacher :)

uh, Tina, you being a data scientist should know that '20% less' isn't equivalent to the other part being '20% more' productive, like the graphic shows at 3:20

Doom scrolling aint my biggest issue. My biggest issue is opening hundreds of browser tabs so I use a tab limiter extension on firefox. I cheat a lot by turning it off but I try to make sure I always turn it back on again at the soonest possible moment lol
