Elites honestly feel like a total lottery. My first Elite lasted like a year, and my Elite 2 had a broken shoulder button within a month and I had only used it a handful of times doing nothing special with it. When you get a good one it really is the best you can get.. But.. Yeah.. Quality control is lacking for sure.

I have a hard time calling Xbox 360 retro. I remember when I was a kid getting it NEW for Christmas the year came out. I remember looking at the controller and thinking it was so new and kind of futuristic. I'm buying one of these just to have one.
Yeah, doesn't quite feel retro to me either. Timeless, maybe. I was already looking for a wired 360 controller when I saw this at microcenter and I needed to get it.
I would love to see controllers with hot swappable buttons. Clicky, soft, etc. I am a STAUNCH SNES controller simp and I absolutely adore the almost mush that they have. It is so much better and easier for when I have to button mash on my speedruns, like in megaman X for example. Clicky buttons are the bane of presses-per-second and I have trouble killing enemies in time before running into them. Super niche` I know but very real.
genuinely thinking about adding some tiny weights to add a few grams to mine, although i’m not sure whether or not this is a good idea. most likely not.
Not iconic enough I think. Hyperkin kinda gets things as close as they can without directly making a copy. I think that's why some color combos are a bit off.
As something of a "gamepad enthusiast", while I don't immediately dismiss one because it's wired (one of my favorites is the Razer Wolverine TE, which, for how "serious" and expensive it is, it's weird that it doesn't have a wireless option, not even its V2 follow-up which is just sad), I do think it should be quite standard nowadays. Even though, again, one of my most-used gamepads is wired-only, for which I just dangle the cable over my keyboard, it does get annoying and cluttered at times. It's not really in the way while playing, but you're gonna have to hold it in one general region only. Which in turn, is just good discipline, rather than to hold it in weird positions or something, but still, you're just tethered, which feels so old-fashioned. I even got retro-styled gamepads that are wireless, cause that's something from the past we generally DON'T want. - I will stick with wired for stuff like audio, but any type of controllers... as long as it works, rather not.
The reason it's not wireless, is primarily due to extra licensing fees to include the Xbox's proprietary radio signal, would have made the cost of the pad higher. They could have done BT, but everyone knows BT connection for controllers just suck thanks to the latency and disconnection issues.
Idk if it’s because I grew up mostly on PlayStation. But I do not like xBox controllers. I always felt the built in controller dead zone compared to the PlayStation. Even on my friends set ups who had screens supporting game mode with faster refresh rate even back then I still noticed it. I tested it too. Brought my PlayStation to a friends house and showed them what I meant because the PlayStation controller had a much smaller dead zone.
the xbox 360 halo reach controller.. very classy at first glance it looked like one of the SE transforming controllers but the buttons are colored and the d-pad isn't shiny
A DAC in a controller is certainly an interesting idea, would be nice for my use case. Not super DAC proficient knowledge wise but would it add significant weight?
After falling ib love with the Xbox 360 controller, after many years of owning a PlayStation and PlayStation 2, the Xbox 360 controller was just perfect for me in every single way but since I was fed up of having crappy knock offs or ludicris prices for a wireless xbox controller, I had found a really good brand - PDP Controllers. It's a wired Xbox One/S style controller and unfortunately, my last one died on me because electrical contact cleaner got the A button stuck...It was the PDP Stealth Serise Spector Violet Controller that had buttons on the back, and unfortunately it wouldn't get unstuck and was impossible to open, so I had to unfortunately throw it away. I now have the PDP Xbox Serise X|S & PC Purple Fade Rematch Controller and I absolutely love it! It's also lighter than the older model and uses USB C and not USB Micro B like my old one did. You also have software so you can customise the buttons, vibration, mic settings, etc on PC!
You're NOT using them on Windows, I'm guessing. Windows blutooth is shit. Absolutely disgraceful how trash it is after all this time. It's notorious for how terrible it is.
After I got my Xbox One in 2018 and retired my 360, I moved over to using my wireless 360 controller on my PC with a dongle with a 360 controller up until earlier this year when the stick finally started drifting a bit too much. And because of that I decided to take a chance on the 8-bit do ultimate controller, and it feels really nice. I was never fond of the direction we decided to go with the Xbox One controller, the triggers always had a spongy feel to me and it was just something about it I didn't like compared to the 360 controller. The d-pad was miles better, but I feel like the parts of the controller that are used more often got a slight hit in quality.
honestly the taller analog sticks is honestly one of the best changes they couldve done, my main grip with the 360 controller is the analog sticks just felt too short. every time i try to go back and use it that is the first thing that stands out to me.
Yep I made a comment similar to this earlier, did the same thing back in the day by taking the sticks out of a controller S and swapping them in to an x360 controller, I did it for comfort and to keep my aim similar from the xbox days with halo 1 and 2. I haven't tried to swap sticks in a modern controller but if the stems are similar the caps should fit right on without issue. Only really ran into differences with some third party controllers back then in which case I'd get a cheap used controller from the same company with sticks I liked and swap them then let my friends use the other one. The best third party controller for xbox back then in my opinion is the Pelican Eclipse. You get a controller s style layout and the controller is a little bigger plus you get duplicated black and white buttons on the top of the controller. It was marketed for football games but it worked really well for shooters with easier access to two more buttons while aiming that other people may not have had at the time.
I have been maintaining my 360 controllers for about 14 years. Daily use, these lil fellas have been through all levels of hell and still work. They are so worn out now though so I was looking for a change. This could be it
$50 is a bit of an ask on these imo. Back in the day the wired only 360 controllers cost like, $20, so with inflation and the ever so slightly updated design I'd like to see these more in the $30-$35 range. That would be much easier to justify for the nostalgia.
I like the noise cancelling to get rid of the fan noise from the laptop. If it is not, then something is up with the audio processing somewhere. Did MSI want this?
On the XBOX Elite Gamepad, you actually get great feedback from the ABXY buttons, maybe it's a cost-saving thing on the regular XBone pads? The Elite V2 is my favorite pad of all time... sure, it's ridiculously expensive for a gamepad, but a) the buttons feel amazing, b) I won't ever go back to a pad without rear paddles, c) the fact that you can customize it quite a bit and it still instantly works with any game without any hassle whatsoever makes for a pretty convincing package for PC gamepad use.
The 360 isn’t the worst d pad of all time. Though it might be 2nd to the OG Xbox dpad. Also I assume that the A to C cables this come with are USB2. (Which the controller itself is probably also USB2.)
$50 is kinda steep for me, but the 360 controller is my favorite of the more modern controllers. The Xenon feels slightly different, but it's just a great controller overall.
I cant stand the the askew joysticks, it drives me nuts. It took me years to not get thumb cramps on my left hand. every time i grab my PS controllers, I'm always like this is how it should feel in my heads, perfect. also the Series X controller is a down grade from the xbox ones controller. need to get ride of the circular D pad and just go with the Plus D pad.
@@mcsnuggie if you're gonna be wrong it's good that you're at least confident. The DS3 introduced analog triggers, is wireless and the buttons are pressure sensitive ala DS2.
I’ve been using the same regular, wired 360 controller since like 2013. 11 years it gave me zero issues, and just today when I picked it up I noticed if I move the cable around it’ll disconnect and reconnect (but STILL no stick drift). I absolutely love the 360 controller, it’s by far my personal favorite. Just bought the Cosmic Night variant of this controller and I am genuinely so, so excited for it to arrive. It’ll be sad packing up ol’ reliable, but damn this controller is sick!
@@Jaden-ty7vh I genuinely love it so much. I can't overstate how good the Cosmic Night version looks in person, and of course it feels just like the 360 controller in your hand. I was worried about the cable because it doesn't clip into place, but I haven't had it pull out even once. It's got the updated share and pause buttons so it's nice actually seeing the correct glyphs in-game. Honestly I really don't have a single complaint, I've been using it all the time since I got it. If you like the 360 controller, I would 150% recommend it.
@@Jaden-ty7vh Honestly feels the exact same as my 360 controller. My 360 controller is pretty old though so I'm not sure if that one is worn out, and that's what I'm comparing it to. But I have a PS4 controller right here too and the PS4 controller sticks are 100% stiffer than the Hyperkin Xenon ones. Like the PS4 sticks definitely pull back to center with a bit more tension (which is all personal preference).
@@BirkinIdk stick tension was the first thing I noticed going from ps4 to xbox 360 controller. The 360 controller has more and it feels way better for shooters and just in general. It’s my favorite controller now but the zenon doesn’t live up to it, it has even less tension than a ps4 controller. Which the ps4 controller is pretty damn good but the zenon dosent even reach that level in my opinion.
Sidenote, you mention hoping for a better DAC in controllers. Alternative take, how much longer until they remove the analog audio port altogether and just throw a 2nd USB-C port there? Which in USB-C all the things crusade I'm all for.
In the time I’ve had my ps4 controller, I’ve broken two 360 controllers. I don’t rage, I don’t throw, I just game with a firm (not hulk-like) grip. Shoulder button fell off of one, trigger fell off the other. The button arrangement is good, but it’s just not sturdy. I’ll take a sturdy ps4 controller and sacrifice the layout convenience, for something that actually can support its own structure.
A controller with no Hall Effect sticks in 2023 is already behind. Those kinds of sticks aren't even more expensive. The Gamesir T4 Kaleid has Hall Effect sticks and triggers, RGB, rear grip buttons, and has mechanical ABXY buttons for $42. If you want as close to an exact replica of the 360 controller though, that seems to be the route.
360 controller may have perfect ergnomics of any controller ever......... coming from a playstation fanboy i still love dualshock but 360 controller is that good
0-1 year = New 1-5 years = Modern 6-10 years = Old 11-20 years = Classic 21-40 years = Vintage 41-60 years = Piece of History 61+ years = Please put it in a museum or trash, depends on the item.
Honestly I can´t go back from using my PS4 controller on PC, the touchpad gives so much more functionality in certain games like star citizen. It adds 3 Buttons to press, I can set left, right, up and down swipes as extra buttons. That alone adds 7 more buttons that I can programm how I like using DS4 windows, its super cool! Not to mention that when using normally the touchpad is used as a mouse, so I can control windows from the couch using the controller super easily.
As long as this 360 controller lasts as long as the old microsoft one, im fine with the $50 price for it brand new, but id be even more willing to pay another $10 for hall effect sticks... Maybe hyperkin will do a controller with them in the future hopefully
Big question tho, small mods like button and joystick "mushroom" replacement (not the analog stick itself) still work from a regular 360 one? I really like aluminium buttons/joysticks both for feel and durability.
This actually beat out the Hori Octa and The 8Bitdo 6 button fight pad in my opinion. Both of those sucked for SF6. On the Octa I kept getting unintentional Drive Rushes and the 8BitDo DPad was missing inputs. So I grabbed the Hyperkin...and I have none of those issues . Plus I think this might work for Tekken 8 as well. Plus this one works good for charge characters like Guile. I tell people now the 360 pad was the best for Street Fighter... I remember being able to do Guile's supers on SF4 easily on the original 360 pad...put on PS3 controller I couldn't. DS4 I would say was 2nd best for stock controllers. The Hyperkin the dpad might be a little stiff....but im not dropping combos or moves as much anymore. It is as close to a 360 controller as you might get in 2024. Not perfect but really good.
What obsession? It's just a throwback to a little piece of nostalgia for a lot of people, just like Hyperkin's previously released Duke derived controller.
I used to think the xbox 360 dpad was trash as I grew up with the ps1/2, snes, nes, and genesis dpads. Gave it a good shot with street fighter iv and mvc3 and realized I just misunderstood it. I like it more than the ps3s to be honest
Still use a wired 360 controller for my PC for certain games. I have a lot of 360 wireless controllers, so whenever I wear out the thumb sticks, I just replace them from one of the other.
Wish the black had the original grey sticks and stuff like the white one, instead of the revision where everything's black. As it stands though, I'd pick up the white since that's the other controller I had.
@@Lily-white Original x360 dpad was more like very short travel stick. You was able to hold your finger on dpad all the time. Setting direction by slight movement of your finger. It was super cool once you get used to it. No need to do actual "click". You just move finger so slightly and do a special move. In my personal opinion it was just so much better for fightings, run&gun, shmups etc. You just need to get used to it. It's like stick + gyro aiming. It might be hard at first. But once you lerned how to use it. You just out of the competition.
@@IgorYatskiv yeah, I hated the thing, but looking back could see it potentially being nice for fighting games, shmups I much prefer keyboard or stick so can't speak to that, sounds better than the analog stick for them though and from other shmup experiences on dpads it wasn't too bad I personally used the 360 for a bunch of random games but never liked the dpad in any of them especially RPG menus

I still love the xbox 360 controller, I still use my wireless one as my main PC controller to this day. This looks perfect, but unfortunately as soon as you said it was wired only, I'm out. The best thing about a controller vs mouse and keyboard IMO is the relaxed stance leaned back you can take with a wireless controller, flail about madly if you want to, no wires to worry about. I really don't think well implemented wireless is a pain, I use a knockoff xbox 360 wireless PC adapter and apart from some hassle getting the drivers to work on Windows 10, once setup, I've not had to touch a thing.

I don't speed run or button mash and I prefer mushy buttons to click buttons.
Me 2, I love the switch lite over the joycons for this reason. It's loke the ps4 rather than the xbox
They exist
What about half-presses per second?
The original wired xbox 360 controllers were always lighter than the wireless versions. The battery bay and weight made a big difference in the heft.
genuinely thinking about adding some tiny weights to add a few grams to mine, although i’m
not sure whether or not this is a good idea. most likely not.
Damn, they didn't use the updated d-pad from the tail end of the 360's lifespan? I liked that spinny option.
Not iconic enough I think. Hyperkin kinda gets things as close as they can without directly making a copy. I think that's why some color combos are a bit off.
Anyone else remember that one X360 controller where the dpad rotated and had that bit that recessed? Would have liked to see that again.
With that title I had assumed it would at least have Hall Effect sticks. Without that it goes from "close to perfection" to "just another controller"
Remind your hosts ShortCircuit are NOT reviews. 11:16 David says its review content.
Did he ever say close to absolute perfection
the xbox 360 halo reach controller.. very classy
at first glance it looked like one of the SE transforming controllers but the buttons are colored and the d-pad isn't shiny
A DAC in a controller is certainly an interesting idea, would be nice for my use case.
Not super DAC proficient knowledge wise but would it add significant weight?
The weight would be unnotizable, it'd be a different thing if they came with an amp tho
DAC is something pretty standard on everything made the past 20 years with a headphone jack
Modern controllers with a headphone jack already have a DAC. He's saying he wants a better one.
We need more controller reviews!
Not being wireless is definitely a deal breaker for me.
You're NOT using them on Windows, I'm guessing. Windows blutooth is shit. Absolutely disgraceful how trash it is after all this time. It's notorious for how terrible it is.
Really too bad we won't be getting a wireless version. The 360 was the goat
I miss the days when Thrustmaster made cool PC controllers with extra buttons and features.
Does it work with my submarine though?
Looks so good i want to drive a submarine with it.
You can't call that the worst D-pad of all time when the Gamegear exists.
I have been maintaining my 360 controllers for about 14 years. Daily use, these lil fellas have been through all levels of hell and still work. They are so worn out now though so I was looking for a change. This could be it
The Cosmic Knight colorway looks so sexy. An Xbox 360 controller with Hall Effect sticks would be my endgame.
$50 is a bit of an ask on these imo. Back in the day the wired only 360 controllers cost like, $20, so with inflation and the ever so slightly updated design I'd like to see these more in the $30-$35 range. That would be much easier to justify for the nostalgia.
I heard this controller is a must have when building aquatic vehicles.
But the real question is: How does it compare to the GuliKit King Kong 2 Pro?
I love knowing me and david both got the reach limited edition xbox
I'll be using this as my main controller for Xbox and PC. It feels just as amazing as the original 360 controller.
There's NO WAY the air inside it smells like Bacon Bits like the original 360 controller.
The 360 isn’t the worst d pad of all time. Though it might be 2nd to the OG Xbox dpad.
Also I assume that the A to C cables this come with are USB2. (Which the controller itself is probably also USB2.)
Seems odd not to fix the D-pad, not really sure what the point of this is.
Just ordered one for £16 from Argos (UK), can't go wrong for that amount
bruh, the xbox 360 was my childhood, im so so so so happy that the controller is being brought back.!!
The XB360 controller is one of the most comfortable. But the awful D-pad makes it unusable in some games. Which is why the DS3 is overall better.
ds3 is literally the ps1 controller with joystick. Ds4 is better but ds3 was outdated before it even released
How is it please update us
@@Jaden-ty7vh I genuinely love it so much.
@@BirkinIdk how is the stick tension compared to a original 360 or even a ps4 controller
If this had the hall effect analog sticks and the Playstation-like d-pad, it would be the perfect controller.
Just ordered one, can’t wait!
Sidenote, you mention hoping for a better DAC in controllers. Alternative take, how much longer until they remove the analog audio port altogether and just throw a 2nd USB-C port there? Which in USB-C all the things crusade I'm all for.
Damn, remember the custom controller shell market around the 360 controller!
Shit was massive
In the time I’ve had my ps4 controller, I’ve broken two 360 controllers. I don’t rage, I don’t throw, I just game with a firm (not hulk-like) grip. Shoulder button fell off of one, trigger fell off the other. The button arrangement is good, but it’s just not sturdy. I’ll take a sturdy ps4 controller and sacrifice the layout convenience, for something that actually can support its own structure.
LTT, do you have any flightsimmers, revue on joysticks and other setups would be really interesting!
But is that an Xbox 360 controller because that's what matters here
Came for the controller, stayed for David's guns 😳
360 controller may have perfect ergnomics of any controller ever......... coming from a playstation fanboy i still love dualshock but 360 controller is that good
Truth!
Correction: 4:23 -- this port is *NOT* proprietary! It will happily take any 2.5mm headphone/mic or adapted 3.5mm headphone 3 pole system.
Underrated comment since you're right about the middle hole. What's on either side of it is of course proprietary.
I hope i'll see Flydify Vader 3 Pro review sometime on ShortCircuit

David videos are always sooo good!
Big question tho, small mods like button and joystick "mushroom" replacement (not the analog stick itself) still work from a regular 360 one? I really like aluminium buttons/joysticks both for feel and durability.
I want to get the xenon controller just so that it will have some level of the feel, and match the button prompts, for older PC titles in my library.
This is a perfect controller for me, since I mainly play 360 games on my Xbox One.

>but not after I tell you about our sponsor
but you did it after telling us...
top 10 saddest anime betrayals 2023
Why cant I add this video to a YT playlist?
I don't get what the obsession with the 360 controller is, all the following ones have just gotten better and better.
Same. It's strange
What obsession? It's just a throwback to a little piece of nostalgia for a lot of people, just like Hyperkin's previously released Duke derived controller.
Best shape! More modern one keep rotating the grip more vertical and making it skinnier. Same thing happened to Playstation.
@@RyTrapp0dude I had so much fun playing Ninja Gaiden with the remade Duke. So many memories of being so frustrated!
The ps5 pro, that linus and friends anticipated, is getting a release, this might be worth a video!
the fake endings always get me. HAHAHA
“but not after i tell you about our sponsor”
I used to think the xbox 360 dpad was trash as I grew up with the ps1/2, snes, nes, and genesis dpads. Gave it a good shot with street fighter iv and mvc3 and realized I just misunderstood it. I like it more than the ps3s to be honest
Hey can you make a video comparison of available PC controllers and PC- comparable controllers(PS and Xbox versions and their connectivity) please
Everybody’s talking about hall sticks, brother I don’t understand how they didn’t slap a new dpad on there. The 360 dpad was notoriously shitty
Still use a wired 360 controller for my PC for certain games. I have a lot of 360 wireless controllers, so whenever I wear out the thumb sticks, I just replace them from one of the other.
I absolutely love the elite series 2. problem is having to repair it yourself over and over again
Wish the black had the original grey sticks and stuff like the white one, instead of the revision where everything's black. As it stands though, I'd pick up the white since that's the other controller I had.
Yeah I think they had to tweak is slightly so they wouldn't be Kristen for originals
Xenon was also one of the types of 360 consoles and the most common to be turned into a JTAG
The name isn't a coincidence.
One thing than ps3 controller has over 360 was that early models has hall effect in the thumb stick which is a much superior thumbsticks at that time.
Jeeez. I was like "I'm buying it right now"... But a minute later, they ruined DPAD. The original x360 DPAD was the best for me personally.
Wdym? He reviews it as the dpad being the same as with the x360?
@@Lily-white He said it's clicking. Original x360 dpad had zero click. But you more like slide on it instead of touching specific direction.
@@IgorYatskiv oh, guess I just didn't hear that part
@@Lily-white Original x360 dpad was more like very short travel stick. You was able to hold your finger on dpad all the time. Setting direction by slight movement of your finger. It was super cool once you get used to it. No need to do actual "click". You just move finger so slightly and do a special move. In my personal opinion it was just so much better for fightings, run&gun, shmups etc. You just need to get used to it. It's like stick + gyro aiming. It might be hard at first. But once you lerned how to use it. You just out of the competition.
@@IgorYatskiv yeah, I hated the thing, but looking back could see it potentially being nice for fighting games, shmups I much prefer keyboard or stick so can't speak to that, sounds better than the analog stick for them though and from other shmup experiences on dpads it wasn't too bad
I personally used the 360 for a bunch of random games but never liked the dpad in any of them especially RPG menus
I actually really want one since my really cheap eBay 360 controller doesn't really work anymore
that MSI ad sounds like it was written by Amy Schumer,
a feeling of smugly thinking they know what they're talking about. "eat spicy goodness, like a boss"
now I want a modern dualshock
The Controller S Original Xbox controller is the 2nd best controller I've ever used (2nd to Dualsense)
