My late Mother in law Violet was the head cleaning supervisor at the CBX building (where the winter gardens are) when they filmed there. She met Christopher Reeve and got my husband who was 16 at the time a signed photo. We still live in MK. Great tour thank you, enjoyed watching it 😊
You missed a location but it would be hard to film around a school. I went to school where the kid met Superman, same class room, same seat, looking out the same window. Sir Frank Markham School, I don't think it's called that now tho. I could prob spot it on google maps, it's over looking a field. Great video! Thanks for the memories guys !
Great video. I used to work in that Argos building. The top floor was where the canteen was but in Superman, it was where they filmed the office scenes.
All of the Superman films, 'Superman:The Movie', 'Superman II', 'Superman III' and 'Superman IV: The Quest For Peace' were all filmed in England. How is that a shock? Don't you people watch the credits of films? Every one of those Superman films mentioned above has 'Filmed on location and at Pinewood/Shepperton Studios, London, England' in its end credits. The quarry where Superman finds Lana Lang's diamond and he drops of Gus Gorman is actually round the corner from me here in Battersea, south London. They were filmed in England (as was the original Star Wars trilogy) because according to directors George Lucas and Richard Donner, we have the best special effects teams for films like those, best in the world. 🏴
This is not news to those of us who were kids in 1987 😂😂😂 Milton Keynes, Uxbridge Civic Centre, Wembley Conference Centre, Holborn Station, Bannatyne Health Club, were used to represent New York City, part of the Pentagon, the U.N. building, "Metropolis South" station and Metropolis Museum. Other locations included Aldwych Underground Rail Station, Didcot Piwer Station and Avebury Building. Even the first three Christopher Reeve Superman films had scenes filmed in England
Grew up not far from Milton Keynes so really appreciated this video as like many others I didn't know superman was filmed here. I know that cliff Richard filmed the video for wired for sound in Milton Keynes shopping centre and also Duran Duran did a famous photo shoot in there too!
I seem to remember seeing an early cinema trailer for Superman lV where he is in the London Underground and a train has Cockfosters as its destination? I think this was later changed to represent metropolis. Am I just imagining this? Age plays tricks on your memory 😊
Yes, interior Fortress of Solitude was on the 007 soundstage. Lake in Superman 2 is nearby in the studio grounds, often featured in old movies & crops up in Space 1999 & UFO.
Aw man, I thought we'd see you on the moon. ...Seriously though great stuff. We went past MK on the train and I pointed out (what I thought was) the UN building from Superman 4 to my wife who didn't give a shit. Maybe one day I'll stop for a wonder round. Several years ago I was lucky enough to walk on the Niagara board walks from Superman II, where Lois chucks herself in. It was VERY similar still.
Now you just need to pop down to Charing Cross in London where they filmed the New York metro scene on the London Underground!!!! You can view the platform with TFL hidden tours.
Great video - live nearby to Milton Keynes and go there regularly, especially the train station - so weird to think that Chris Reeve, Margot Kidder etc were on that very spot.
I think it would be amazing if MK hosted biannual Superman or DC Comics conventions on these grounds and had guest appearances by John Cryer, Mark Pillow, and Mariel Hemingway.
The Kent farm was another location recreated in the UK, to save the expense of travel to the original film's location in Alberta, Canada, but unlike some of the "Metropolis" locations, the farm was a convincing substitution.
Woooooooooooooooooooow!!! Did you know that the newspaper editorial in part 1 was in England pinewood studios? Are you assuming yes they are like that in part 4 with the ice cave & all? They probably took all the scenes, the newspaper ice cave & England's Muse all in one?
You can't beat Christopher Reeve as Superman.. There is only one Superman... Henry Cavill and the others move out the way...Great video by the way very interesting..
It’s hard to know if it was reeve or a stuntman who took off from the step. Cos someone ran into the car and someone got out and it looks like one take no cut.
Great video lads, I really enjoyed learning of the location for a film I have fond memories of. I saw Quest for Piece at the Cinema. I also saw Superman 3 at the cinema too. I definitely revert to childhood when I watch the Christopher Reeves 4 films as Superman. He'll never be out done in the role. I've visited locations for my UA-cam channel too. I have 2 Robin Hood Prince Of Thieves locations down the road from me. The tree house village and the lake scene. Both locations also became Harry Potter locations, Star Wars and James Bond too. I worked at Pinewood Studios for 7 years for a tenant company. Nothing to do with film making sadly. Still it was a magical place to work every day. If you fancy doing a joint video, give me a shout. Trevor (Double Bill Movies)
Apparently, the film suffered from substantial cost cutting, so that might explain why numerous scenes were filmed in Milton Keynes rather than somewhere more expensive "across the pond".
I love all cris reeves super man films.rip. went to watch this in a cannon cinema in west Ealing when I was a kid. I'm 46. Lol. It was cut bad this film. U must've seen the other versions on utube.😂❤😊

We already know that information. We needed a catchy title because that's how UA-cam works.
It's not a shock. What is surprising is that exterior shots of Milton Keynes were used for Metropolis. That's what is being referred to.
I thought the grand canyon scenes with Richard Pryor and Robert Vaughn were in USA on donkeys

Nice. Ive always known parts of the film were made in MK, but its great to see these comparisons!
It’s UK not MK dumb ass

The train has 4th Street on it. It was filmed at Holborn station on platform 5 which is now.closed to the public.
Yes was London underground.
Went to the Bannatyne health spa a decade ago. Had no idea it was in Superman IV. It was the first movie I ever saw at the cinema.
Love that.
I can still remember using my dads membership card to rent it out on VHS after it came out. 😄
Awesome seeing this.

It was also filmed in Scunthorpe. I was there for the filming

Bloody love you. Gowan legend

Pretty sure it was shot there to save money, also some was reshot as holby City's Clive mantle was the original Nuclear man
It was definitely shot in MK to save money. Cannon Films the company that produced the film is notorious for doing this.

Elstree for Superman IV, Pinewood for 1,2 and 3.
So was Indiana Jones and Star Wars. At Pinewood Studios outside London. Our film industry never got a damn penny for it!
