  • IBS can be super embarrassing, I get that, but in a bid to help break the poo taboo (one of my fave phrases), I'm sharing more of my story.
Back in October 2016 I wrote a favourite blog post of mine, 10 Embarrassing Things About IBS That I’m Not Afraid to Share, and was overwhelmed by all the comments and Tweets that I received. So much so, I decided I’d recreate this post in video form, just for the shits and giggles, and obviously the horrendous facial expressions.
So sit back, pop the top button on your skinny jeans, let your stomach relax and gently stretch it out with me. #NotJustIBS

Omg I relate to this so much. Especially the part about your stomach gurgling. Its the worst because everybody always asks "are you hungry" and they don't understand that it's not a growl

The main problem of IBS that you are always in stress that you cant hang around with others. It leads to social isolation, depression and all kind of things. We must accept people with such condiitons as it can happend to anyone

thank you so much for posting this video! my biggest struggle is the stomach noises, gassiness and when I'm very stressed- the well known poo! it's so nice to see someone making video about this, you really made me feel better. I left college because it was so quiet there that I could not handle it,silent places became a phobia of mine, but I'm slowly working on it. it's really nice to hear someone I can relate to. ❤ I hope you will find your peace of mind one day and life will get easier 😊

Kat, thank you! The noises are an absolute pain aren't they. I can't hide them so I'm always like, whoops there goes my stomach again, it's trying to communicate. I can't apologise for it and I can't control it. The more wonderful comments I get, the more it spurs me on to talk about this stuff. Because someone's got to right! We're all in this together. X

kat les i'm in exactly the same position as you!! my symptoms are just the same & college became my worst nightmare- i just kind of dissapeared from my classes & haven't returned in months 😩 if you don't mind me asking, what do you do instead of college? x

right now i am working as a waitress, but plan on returning to college this september. i'm not sure if i am getting better, but i will still try to do it this time, changes my course as well :) by the way,i suggest you listen to live awake here on youtube aka sarah blondin, she calms me a lot and talks so beautifully

kat les Thanks a ton for sharing this! I have the same exact problems and I am absolutely horrified of quiet places where people are. My IBS has been mild since I was in middle school but it's been the last 8 or so months that it has really flared up so I'm new to this but I'm terrified to start college this fall because of the noises. Good to know there are lots of people with this problem because sometimes I feel like the only one.

I totally agree with Kat les here! Thank you so much for posting. Honestly the stomach/intestinal noises are the worst for me. I'm taking a year off of uni to get better because it was honestly ruining my life. I totally get the silent place phobia. There also seems to be NO PATTERN for stomach sounds. They can pop up with pain/a bit of bloat or no pain. It's SO frustrating and it makes me feel really alone at times because I isolate myself because of it and no one else I know has dealt with it. I love the internet for posts like this

Kristina, thank you! Your comment actually came at the best time as I'm currently having a bad time with my IBS. You are definitely not alone. There are loads of us all in the same boat, trying to work out how to control our symptoms. You've got this.

    • @krissyk8430
      @krissyk8430 7 років тому +2

Im wondering how to stop the noise. People ask me if I'm hungry or if I'm okay and it happens at the worst times and the worst places. The best way to stop it for me is to lay on my right side and not to move. Even though they say to lay on your left side for better digestive health. And ill just deal with super heart burn because the growling and bloating is so overwhelming. Any advice?

I have had this problem for six months now.. I hoped it would go away as a huge anxiety-triggering episode of my life ended but nope. Now I have started a new school (well, studies) and have to deal with this terror again.. And I really love the stuff I'm studying and would just be able to concentrate on what I'm learning instead of constant worries weather it will be a great day and my stomach will just shut up or I'll have to deal with gurgling, going to toilet and constant embarassment+huge anxiety again...
This thing really drains me and i hate the fact that my stomach can decide on if a day will be a nightmare or a freaking relief to me when it's silent.
I hate it so much and this constant anxiety is destroying my whole life, studies, relationships, health (mental+physical) and so much more...

I think the most embarrassing part of IBS for me is needing to fart a lot. I have been talking to friends and just let out a loud fart because I couldn't hold it or control it. Ugh! Also I don't have solid poos anymore, ever.

Absolutely adore your videos. I've had "IBS" for about a year now. Flare ups are awful. The symptoms are incredibly frustrating, and at times I resort to the web for research and misc videos of people experiencing similar/same issues, as my doctors provide little to no support on the issue. I relate to many of your videos on the subject. I've even purchased a few of the things you've recommended (hot water bottle, peppermint tea, probiotics). Thank you for bringing support and a laugh to the topic. Please post more! It'd be interesting to see a video in the midst of a 'flare-up'? Cheers from California.

OMG your story about the train! Just 2 weeks ago I got the meanest stomache cramps on the end of my 1:30 bus trip home. I could not hold it in, i got heat flashes and had to call my aunt to pick me up at the station. Whenever the feeling of having to go on the bus I get depressed and hate life. ibs is something I honestly wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. I'm very extroverted (I'm an ESFP in the Myers Briggs Personality Indicator so you can tell how hard it really is). I hate being incapable of going out somewhere & constantly having to worry about weather or not the place I'll be going to will have a bathroom. Dating and traveling is almost impossible. How am I even supposed to meet a super cute guy and tell him that "Hey, I shit a lot !". And it doesn't help that most people tend to be really mean too.

I suffer from IBS as well and I am so thankful that you talk about it - thank you, and go girl! My IBS started suddenly eight years ago, and I have a hard time accepting this fate (pretty sure my issue is a dysbiosis of my bacteria down there), so I have days where I research the whole web to find a cure. One new method that apparently helped people with IBS and with other, more severe bowel diseases is called FMT - Fecal MicrobiotaTransplant... I found out about this last Sunday and got obsessed and am researching clinical trials right now^^ Just wanted to share this in case people want to read about this as well :)

I have IBS D, I can't even count how many times I've had to explain what it is, how it works, what I have to do when it happens etc. I get the whole deal, gurgles, cramps, bloat, gas and let me tell you I am 80% house bound from It! There is almost not a thing in the good chain that DOESN'T trigger my ibs. I also suffer from anxiety, which is a huge trigger because the nerves get going and my gut wants to get rid of whatever it has. I was 2 years late graduating high school due to IBS and anxiety & border line chronic migraines. (I finally graduated on my 20th birthday, November 3rd of this year/17) despite having all these issues, I have 0 shame in telling some straight up how this works and that if I need a bathroom, I need it NOW. It can be embarrassing time to time but if you've gotta go, you gotta go. I can spend 10-30 minutes on the toilet. I can't get a job due to how severe it is, I've tried multiple things to prevent it like probiotics and anti diahrreah pills etc but man nothing works! I've almost lost hope for finding a way to deal with it.

Please try Earth’s Pearls Probiotics you can order them from Amazon. I’ve had IBS-D for 30 years and this is the best product I’ve ever tried. You need to take it for 30 days minimum to really give it time to work. I started out 3 pills a day, taken 1 at a time spread out through out the day. Now I take 1 am and 1 pm. I have tried every diet. food elimination, every type of probiotic, you name it. This is absolutely the best probiotic, it doesn’t have to be refrigerated so it’s great for travel. My other recommendation is a food journal. Keep a written record of everything you eat and drink, including temperatures. I found out I can’t drink coffee, or any drink that has sugar or high fructose syrup (the symptoms take longer to show up). I can’t drink any beverage with ice or is too cold, I immediately start to get cramping. Read labels of ingredients. I can’t eat anything that contains chicory or inulin (same thing just different name) My list is extensive. But by writing everything down you can figure out what is causing your worst flare ups. I’m also affected by air temperature. If the air temperature is below 80 F I have to wear slacks/jeans and long sleeve shirts and sock, shoes. Otherwise I’m getting muscle chills in my stomach and having “explosive” bathroom issues and need to run to find a bathroom.

Thanks for this video. This is how it is. Yes, we need your experiences. I am going to find out where the loos are. I absolutely hate walking in the Royal Parks as they are 20p and you have to pay Contactless and I don't have one of those cards. I do recommend taking some waterproof over trousers just in case you have a disaster, they are easy to put on top and you can put them on without a loo. I would recommend taking a small camping loo seat with a hole in it, you can be discreet and have a coat over you.

Today I was in the bank, it was a normal day , there were like 4 people in the queue waiting to the Watchman to open so we could get in , eventually he appeared and we got in, as soon as we got in ( the bank) the supervisor took the keys and locked the exit door, I noticed that and I had a panic attack I felt the fear of having to go to a bathroom I swear to god that I was almost shitting my pants, I started to feel dizzy , sweat really bad and my breathing turned very short, it was like a nightmare and everything turn even worse when the guy with the keys disappeared , I thought that I was going to die just right there , I started to close my eyes and telling myself that I had control over the situation , the queue was moving as well so I was focused on my diligence ,when I saw again the guy with the keys I asked (almost beggin him ) if he could open the door, once he did so. I felt a big relief ,but I was really destroyed , almost in tears due to the things that I can't do like a normal person ,I have ulcerative colitis and this illness is invisible for the rest of the people , Sometimes I think I was not designed for this world, this illness keeps getting me away from basic things , I'm just begging god to take me away.

The hardest thing for me with IBS is if there's no access to a bathroom in public then I panic. I've had to take desperate measures in those cases which I won't go into but it's good to know there are so many other people that share my struggle.

Last year I had my gcse exams, and my stomach was just being horrible, I had these terrible gurgles, always had headaches and I always needed to poo or fart, tomorrow I’m going to the doctors so they can confirm I have ibs I know it’s bad to self diagnose but it just seems to be the only explanation, I cut of diary thinking I was I just lactose intolerant, but it’s still here, when I’m stressed it gets worse, when I eat, I mentally prepare myself for a gurgling match off, it was terrible during my exams because it was silent in the halls.

Yes, it is quite anxiety inducing. I did it for 11 months. Couldn't take it any longer. I had to restrict my diet to help with the stomach noises. Then no coworker could understand why I couldn't eat gluten and many other foods. They didn't know about the Ibs or the noises or the gas of course, no one wants to share that info with coworkers . So I just said I have intolerances . I ran a fan on my desk even when I was freezing cold. Anything to mask the noise.

Also, with the toilet issue, you don't need to pay if you get a radar key for disabled toilets. We do technically have a disability so get a key and you can access over 9,000 disabled toilets in the UK (they even have an app to tell you where the nearest loo is). You can get them for about £5 from the disability rights UK website or your local council. I got mine for free from my council so it's worth an ask.

I have had IBS only for a short while, after being newly lactose intolerant. Once I had to 'go' within 15 mins after a coffee at cafe in the park. Yes, I took a risk. It was a disaster. It was dusk and the toilets were closed.... yes you know what happened. Just walking through the farmers market which was busy was hell. My partner was with me and he put his waterproof jacket round me. i was a mess when I got home and had a shower. Boyfriend believes how bad I am now. After that time I much more careful (sometimes) and I started to buy 'adult nappies' and waterproof pants if I am a busy peopley area. I have also a change of clothes ie waterproof trousers in my bag just in case.. As for a mini skirt no way lol Dark trousers can hide so many things. I have started to wear elasticated waist trousers. I have just bought myself a Medical card on Amazon and a Radar toilet for key for emergencies. I can relate to a lot you say. I think the worst thing for me is the pain

I think no one have a problem like i do!!!!
My life is really getting miserable due to this stupid thing!!!!! I'm done with my studies and now I'm at my home for like 3 years!!!
I'm 25 now. It started when i was 20... at 22 i was graduated,by that time it was worse....i still have no idea how i passed my tests...after college I'm sort of completely cut from the world...Haven't even worked !!!! Have a very small friend circle(maintining through whatsapp..haven't seen any of them since i was graduated, just because i used to find excuses to skip the meeting process)!!! And i avoid almost all social situations..........
I have had the following problems so far
    1) Had to cancel important appointments (like from hospital) because when my time comes....i will have a sudden stomach pain and then it comes..diarrhoea....
2)Had to cancel weddings or other parties...mainly when I'm supposed to mingle with other people...if its just me and a bunch of strangers who doesn't even bother..i would be okay...but if am supposed to meet someone or do something in front of people...it comes!!!
3)when someone comes to my house, the first thing i do is rush to the toilet..but if am not alone...and if my parents are handling the guest,I'm perfectly fine.....i just want to be the invisible one...then am fine...
4)have missed so many wonderful opportunities with my date😖😢
5)haven't gone for get together parties of my friends......
6)have even skipped my main exams at college!!!! I failed that paper!!!! Just because of ibs..the hall was so silent..and silence is my enemy... when am with other people in a silent place,i will become more conscious about ibs and then it comes...i feels bloated and gassy..and will have to rush to the toilet.
7)can't even be at a bus stop.....if the bus doesn't come within a minute....if i have to stand there for a while..it comes💩!!! Once i was at the bus stop and after 2-3 minutes i had this urge to go...so i ran to the nearest house i could see 😖😢 it happened more than 20 times after which i stopped going anywhere
    8) didn't go for any job interviews...because as mentioned earlier..when the time comes,my gut cheats me!
Its really miserable..i was the topper at my school....and even my first two years of college where great...i was one among the brilliant students.......i was really having an aim to get a very good job after that but during my third year i was git by this terrible thing!
    Now am jobless....helpless..and useless......
I have even thought of suicide so many times..this thing is really ruining my life.....it not easy as it sounds...only people with ibs can understand.....what am i supposed to do...??? I went to a doctor and she gave me a lot of medicines but there is no change at all.......for 3 years am spending the whole time inside my house....talking just to my parents and sister...reading books or watching series and movies...cooking.....etc where it involves just me...
What will i do???? Is it just me??????? I don't see my future....it's all blank......
    Please help me.......

If you go swimming, do aerobics, stop processed food and takeaways, drink plain mineral water, it should hopefully improve. Try warm honey water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach once or twice a week( it controls the gas).😝and eat organic honey everyday.

I was just diagnosed with ibsd yesterday and I'm 32 it all started when I was 9. This is so hard to live with especially if when your a crane operator in the oil fields with no restrooms. I take imodeum and really strong zantac twice a day because it give me heart burn to. It's getting worse to live with. As you I to have missed so much in life. I wanted to go to college but I was scared I was going to shit my self. Now it's affecting my job. This really sucks.

If you are like me and don't like public toilets or toilets in school ask for a toilet pass in your school and ask if there is a disabled toilet where only u can go in and make sure to pack things like tissues in your bag in case there isn't any toilet role and that has happened to me a lot we can all pull through together by sharing tips x
