About IBS Treatment Center
===========================
Dr. Stephen Wangen, co-founder and Medical Director of the IBS Treatment Center, and his staff have successfully helped over 10,000 people resolve irritable bowel syndrome and chronic digestive problems since 2005.
Some patients have had IBS symptoms so severe that they spent a considerable amount of time in the hospital. Others are suffering alone at home and are no less frustrated with the impact that it is having on their lives. The thread that tied them all together was that they had never seen an IBS expert (much different than a gastroenterologist), a doctor whose only mission is to help people solve IBS.
Patients work with us from around the country and the world via our telemedicine services. Get back your life! Work with us via telemedicine. Visit the IBS Specialists at ibstreatmentcenter.com - Наука та технологія

@@Kikii1love So freaking true, the only happy&comfy times is when my stomach is empty, and when I eat I always think about the bloating, diarrhea afterwards, especially these days my stomach is very upset, like upsets about EVERYTHING, don’t wanna eat, still feel hungry, but so reluctant to pick up my chopsticks😢😢
My IBS is not “triggered”. It’s just always there as a background of my life.
Yes. I completely understand what you are saying, and that is true for many people.
In the video it says NOT to use coffee, and later it has a list of things you CAN have, that has coffee on it???@@IBSTreatmentCenter
@@jensandersen7011 Most generic recommendations for IBS recommend avoiding caffeine. However, I do not find that relevant for most IBS patients. Which do you think it is for you?
If you have gastritis and GERD/acid reflux, then avoiding caffeine is super important. At least until the stomach and adjoining areas are healed. Caffeine may also weaken or make the LPS inactive and items can travel up from the stomach. Again, acid-related issues. It wouldn't hurt to cut out all items and then reintroduce to see what the culprits are.@@jensandersen7011

"Let's treat, NOT CURE!" The mantra of the medical system now days!
Agreed. There is way more profit in treating.
Meat, dairy, carbs, fruits, vegetables, alcohol, sugar, sugars, calories, macros, micros, foods, non foods, metal, plastic, motor oil, all other mater, anything with mass…
I'm been on low fodmap no gluten and no dairy for almost 4 weeks now and it has helped immensely with my digestion issues! It just sucks though, really hard to avoid all but health is wealth
Health is wealth! love it, my language too.
You won't have long left on the low FODMAP then. Are you doing this solo or with expert help and support?
How are you finding the 'elimination phase'?
Best of luck. 😎
Lactose free milk works for me. I spent several years using goats milk before the lactose free was available. Gluten free bread used to be a real problem, but not these days. You can even have a pizza - gluten free base and buffalo mozzarella - but make sure it is buffalo not cows. I find sheep's and goat's cheese are also ok, but they don't really melt very well for cooked items.
I have to do this now I am told...no dairy no gluten but I have no idea what snacks I can eat
@@siiwok Plain potato chips, I like the Boulder and The Good Crisp Company chips, they don’t seem as hard on my stomach as other chips. I also like the Dr. John’s Healthy Sweets hard candy. I also like the BEAR Fruit Rolls, the Black Forest Stretch Island Fruit Strips, and Whole Foods Fruit Strips. I also like to snack on grapes, cucumbers, clementines, bananas, and berries
what do u eat then
I had really bad flare up of IBS with Diverticulitis and Covid together. I was in hospital for 8 days last year. What has helped me is an anti-anxiety medication.
What's it called please?
Hi, I had diverticulitis/ diverticulosis until I stopped gluten....all grains mostly.

@@kikikiki3216 I take Donnatol and Polyethylene Glycol every day. I avoid processed foods and make chicken soup daily. I snack on baked Sw. Potatoes and white rice, prunes cooked, apple sauce, sour dough bread very toasted. I avoid beans, cruciferous veggies, or gas producing foods. Chew your food a lot, drink water all day, sip on weak teas, peppermint tea is great. Also IB Gaurd over the counter. Soothes tummy with peppermint. Eggs and banana upset my stomach.
@@kikikiki3216 I take a low dose of imipramine. I have taken it on and off for 10 years. Currently back on it as my IBS is back after 2 years of minimal symptoms.
I guess I’m having a flare. These recurring cramps and sharp abdominal pains are no joke. They hurt soooooooo bad
It's amazing how painful it can be and yet doctors will find nothing. We understand the frustration. Hang in there!
How long did it take to go away?
Have you had a diagnosis yet to confirm you have IBS? Yes the pains can be pretty horrid and get in the way of loads.
I’ve been like 5 times to the doctor with the same issue which I thought was kidney infection cause I’ve had it 3 times before , I’ve had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy done but everything came out fine , they just tell me I have a lot of gas trapped in my system and I’m like OK , what’s next !!!!! I’m trying everything and yet nothing helps . I try to fast sometimes and that seems to help but I’m too hungry all the time to do this . 😢
@@queenj1203 Sounds frustrating for you. It can be tough and embarrassing with tons of gas. I know this may sound simple but are you chewing your food properly and taking time when you eat? Some people eat quickly due to being busy for example and can cause lots of gas. Also have you had tests for IBD and IBS? As in bloods etc, am guessing they did this when you were seen?
You shouldn’t have to fast and be hungry. Do you get any other symptoms? Such as tummy pains, bloating, nausea, loose stools etc? Take care 💪🏼
My IBS trigger is raw vegetables. I did not know this healthy food was a this bad for me. I am glad I know now. Everything started after my gallbladder removal.
You should take Bile salts since you no longer have a gallbladder that produces your bile naturally. That might help things out for you. Anyone without a gallbladder needs to take bile for life.
I still have my gallbladder and raw vegetables make my IBS symptoms absolutely unbearable so now I steam all my vegetables and it helps a lot but there are certain vegetables I need to avoid such as garlic and onions they really make my irritable bowel system very bad
Low FODMAP was a game changer for me. I always knew fatty foods set off my stomach but cutting out certain veggies and fruit - wow! Like stone fruit or watermelon - cauliflower too. Some foods make me gassy (beans) where as others (watermelon) will liquify my bowel contents and make me call in sick to work. The list you provide for Low FODMAP fruits and veg is pretty short so I'd recommend people look into it. I think the biggest problem is compliance. You have to commit. For me I've been pretty good with my diet because the pain and suffering isn't worth it. Also get your iron, magnesium, zinc and B vitamins checked. Low iron can cause all kinds of digestion problems. Lesser known symptom and nutrient deficiencies are common in people with gut issues.
Thanks for sharing your story and pointing those things out!
yes, compliance is the key. I'll try it for one month.
Folks, be sure to rule out a persistent illness from campylobacter poisoning caused by once eating undercooked poultry. I used to think I had IBS until I saw a specialist who gave me antibiotics as an initial treatment (cipro I believe). While it took a number of months to fully recover after years of being sick, those antibiotics did the job. It was not IBS after all and I've been about 98 percent well ever since. And I was very ill for a long time before the antibiotics. Campylobacter poisoning is an extremely common illness I read.
Yeah, cauliflower=bloating
@@Sarah-xw2ff That's interesting. Thanks for sharing your story. It's something that we test for in all of our patients.
I just experienced an IBS flare up during my trip to Mexico. On my first dinner, had a Cantarito, is a cocktail drink made usually with Mezcal, but this drink was made with Tequila. Had a Rib Eye stake, this cut had a lot of fat in it, not impressed. Not thinking about the consequences, added spicy salsas and took at a bite of a hot pepper. That night sleep pretty well, but the next morning I spend my entire day literally in the bathroom! My IBS was out of control, had to see a local Gastro who prescribed medication and that was the only way that I was able to feel much better.
From the list of things not to consume, I definitely need to stay away from spicy food, greasy food, and caffeine.
I live here in Mx and just turned forty. Just dx with IBS & it sucks! Going to a GI tomorrow.
I cant deal with greasy food
Sounds like you had a tough time with that meal in the morning. It's crazy until you identify ALL triggers.
Spicy food can be ok when it's made without the ingredients that cause issues. Once you know them all, you can adapt many meals and situations and life becomes easier.
I've had several episodes where steak seems to be the trigger; dense red meat.
@@AltaAnastazYah For me it’s definitely the spicy peppers. I eaten beef steaks and pork too without adding any spicy salsa or hot peppers and I do just fine. Still, try not keep eating red meat at a minimal for other reasons.

This has never been part of a doctor visit for me, so thank you. Salads, nuts and beans are the foods I could eat every day without problems. After going strictly gluten-free, my lifelong dairy intolerance (along with eczema and psoriasis symptoms) quickly went away. I still stick to cheese and yoghurt for dairy. I prefer cheeses lower in lactose, so I may be lactose-intolerant but undiagnosed. I find my IBS flares up a lot with intense and prolonged stress like financial or interpersonal issues, performance anxiety or a big evaluation. I drank lightly but fairly regularly in my early 20’s at a time when symptoms were horrendous but do not drink at all since my 40’s, never smoked and avoid processed foods. I do not diet or watch my weight. In my youth I dieted to the point of disordered eating. Starving to alleviate symptoms was the gateway to starvation for weight loss and the positive feedback that comes with a smaller body and increased productivity. As a 50-year-old I now eat anything I want to at any time of day, in any quantity, combination and order I feel. If I want ice cream for supper or a bowl of mashed potatoes for breakfast, that’s what I have. I exercise regularly for stress relief and metabolism. I focus on building strength and endurance. I do drink one coffee but strive to take it with steamed milk. As a person with food allergies, avoiding even trace amounts has made a great difference. I no longer dine in restaurants, other than a trusted all-beef burger or gf pizza. My regular diet utilizes a lot of lean meat and veg slow-cooked, beans, cheese, rice and potatoes. I don’t find food is much of a problem if I stick to this. I am working on the emotional triggers by working at building a low-stress routine and a life I don’t want a vacation from.
You are very welcome. I am impressed with everything that you've figured out. Well done!

I have not had a flare up in years …. Keep in mind IBS is a diagnosis that is given when a condition can not be found…. It’s diagnosed by symptoms there is no test … Some think patient has IBS and here it is a food intolerances ..… so did I have IBS as I was diagnosed with ? All I know is when I ate well 95 percent of the time and had “triggers” only 5 percent of the time I was back to normal. This was all I did and still do and my bowels have never been happier and stools absolutely wonderful ! I sit I go one long solid stool and I am done ! Not to be gross lol
Also I did not take any medicine ever !! I tried the food route and it was all that was needed
Every morning I have raw oats, handful of organic blueberries in it and walnuts and some honey… if I want like an hour later I sometimes will have a couple of eggs
I only eat some sour dough bread
Every day I have a bean salad (I take beano ) OTC before i eat and zero gas bloating
I also keep in mind “had” IBS D so you might think all this soluble fiber made worse NoPe
So this Dr is correct !
I eat baked fish 5 times a week, and yams
If I eat dairy I always every single time I take lactaid
I drink a liter sometimes a tad more of Evian water
I drink coffee morning and afternoon I use Evian
Now I eat great most of the week but last night I had spicy chicken wings 4 and a chocolate croissant lol a year ago I would have been in pain and running to the bathroom nope … fine
Eat healthy !!! I will say this IBS is a blessing in disguise as your heart will love this new way of eating
Oh and walk !
Congratulations on figuring out what you needed to do! I agree. I too found it beneficial for my entire health.
I am 75 and trying to do almost exactly the same things you are doing. But, I do eat a lot of fruit (including blueberries) and homemade soups and salads. I think the things I need to work on include eating more fish and drinking more water. I was amazed, though, by how much my and exercise correspond with what you are doing. Oh, and walking is the best.
I’m surprised there aren’t thousands of IBS specialists, since IBS is so prevalent t in the U.S. that one of my doctors said it should be called ABS, for America Bowel Syndrome! Many of the foods you mentioned as good can sometimes bother my gut; but, it’s possible that I’m in a flare when it happens. My last horrible episode was just 3 weeks ago and lasted for almost two weeks. It happened after I shoveled a bunch of delicious, plump, moist dried apricots down my throat while preparing a too-late dinner. When I bought the apricots, I checked to make sure that they had no added sugar, which is oddly rather common with dried fruit. But in my haste to check for sugar, I overlooked what I believe was the culprit…that sulphur dioxide used as a preservative in most pre-packaged dried fruit. It was awful, and I have an appointment to see a gastroenterologist the day after tomorrow. I also have a history of chronic, low-grade gastritis, GERD, and several instances of hospitalization because is severe pancreatitis, so my gut problems are much more than IBS. I am considering a FODMAP diet, and I also need to get off of the PPI I take for the GERD, and the Gabapentin I take for nerve damage from low back surgery 20 years ago. Both of those drugs can cause severe gut issues. Thank you for this video. I am subscribing.
The GERD could easily be related to the rest of it, and the gastritis likely is as well. Even the pancreatitis can be related. And good thinking with regard to the meds too. I agree. We'd love to work with you to help you figure it all out and help you get off some of the meds.
Ha ha! So what about us British people with IBS?! Typical Americans thinking they are the most important people on the planet. WRONG. Jeez, they can't even spell, use proper grammar, or pronunciation!
Apricots are high in Polyols, which is the P in FODMAP. As for your issues, it sounds like the low FODMAP diet could really work well for you. I would also think about working on some stomach repair herbs. Since everything is inflamed and probably backing up, the pancreas, liver and gull bladder can be compromised.
@@SIBODigestionHealthTips-if8oc Thank you. I am looking closely at the FODMAP and am going to start it after these holidays. I did talk with my gastro doc about it, and he said it’s worth a try. I appreciate your suggestion! Happy New Year!

Wonderful all around video. I was sitting here wondering how I could like a "doctor" so much . . . then I saw your certificate! Thank you for your generous heart. Knowing where I can go (soups, smoothies) is a major help. I mean (as you well know) with a spinning head, and being afraid of what to eat, the person is in a horrible state. Thank Bob. I really appreciate it.
I had a lot of relief from the low FODMAPs diet and it was shocking to have normal stools again 2 weeks in. It is recommended to slowly add back most foods to see what your triggers are and with most of the foods I have reintroduced I feel the IBS flaring up again so I'm going back to the low FODMAPs. It's really hard the first few weeks, but if you find relief you will get used to it so I highly recommend giving it a try!
I'm recently diagnosed with High Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure so some of the foods that Low FODMAP eliminates are foods that I need to lower both. It seems like everything I eat is sending me into the bathroom lately. And IBS has gotten more painful for me with rolling sharp stomach cramping, low back pain, and just feeling tired and not so good after the bathroom trip. It's super annoying and life disruptive, especially while it's now summer and I'm taking more day road trips.
I can certainly feel your pain. I've had IBS and I know what you mean. We'd love to help you. That's our specialty!
try oatmeal. it lowered my cholesterol a lot. everyday i grind it in a blender and oat milk and two bananas. it really worked.
Low FODMAP may be the game changer. I would do it and do it at 100% compliance. Adding in some probiotics would also be something to consider.
I read a comment on another video where the poster said he started doing two tablespoons of virgin olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach and in three days the major symptoms disappeared- I tried it and it worked for me- no diet modification or meds etc. It may be worth a try for you as well
This is one medical viewpoint. There are definitely others on what helps and doesn’t help. I say that you experiment and see what foods do for you. I have an irritable bowel right now but I happen to be fine with gluten. I’m fine with dairy I’m fine with that I agree vegetables are hard to digest anything with sugars or starches will feed the bad gut bacteria and cause a flareup so I suggest everybody experiment.

You are very welcome.
Everyone is different. The gut biome is extremely complex and any food exclusion list has to be taken as a list of “this has worked for some people”. There are a lot of things to think about.
Addressing the food triggers does not address the root cause. This is the most important one.
You may still be doing something fundamental that is damaging your gut biome.
The list 7:39 may be a lot more nuanced for you.
Example.
Only lettuce might be a problem, in which case try lemon juice on it before any other dressing. If this works, you may have the same problem with raw cabbage in coleslaw. Grated carrot, grated celeriac, avocado, tomato, peppers may be fine.
It may only be modern apples like Braeburn that you have an an issue with. (Waxy skins that have been bred for long shelf life are different to most heritage varieties of apple)
Nuts may not be a problem. Not chewing them enough might be. Try them crushed in a nut roast. Or crushed pistachio on a salad.
Fatty food is very likely not just a trigger but a likely root cause. Cut out any processed meats as well, like ham and bacon.
Steak and any red meat may be a core problem
Refined sugar is another candidate for the root cause.
Modern emulsifiers in processed foods are very likely to be a root cause.
Whole grains and brown rice may not be an issue. It could well be that your gut is just not used to them and you tend to overload. Instead of brown rice try one part brown rice, one part white basmati rice, one part lentil. It has a much more calming effect on the gut.
The thing to try to apply is that, although there will be a root cause, the bigger variety of food you can eat, the better protected your gut will be. Food yo-yo 7:39 isn’t good either. Spicy curry loaded with tomatoes one night. Creamy rich cheese sauce loaded pasta the next night.
Big lump of meat that takes 10 days to digest the next night. Crappy snacks and a bar of chocolate and a sugar hit that strips your gut biome gut lining the next.
Greasy take away the next night.
Healthy salad the next night.
No wonder your gut can’t cope with digesting raw salad at the end of that week.
The foods you are listing are mostly high FODMAP and ensure to pay attention to quantities as well.
@@SIBODigestionHealthTips-if8oc I am not convinced that the problems people experience with so called Fodmap foods, that are also whole foods, eaten for thousands of years, are the root cause of the problem. Very little research has been done on the cause, most of the research has been done on dietary intervention. Mono and disaccharides of fatty acids are in the vast majority of modern long life foods on supermarket shelves, that is a big and obvious red flag to look at. There are other “modern” ultra processed food ingredient candidates too. There is a rethink going on with gluten. New research is showing that 8 (possibly as many as 9)out of ten people with “gluten intolerance” are targeting the wrong primary culprit for their dietary health problem. I think it likely that more research will reveal a similar problem with so called Fodmap foods.
Thank you Doc. very much ❤ Finally I got it..
Yea!!
Greasy, fried, artificial sweetners, dairy, (although hard cheeses seem to be fine) and certain fruit are huge "triggers"- carnivore diet will calm it down- fruit seems to be a huge inciter of certain types of colitis, and not just the skin either- the whole fruit seems to trigger flares. The natural sugars in the fruit do not play well with colitis. Unfortunately coffee, especially decaf aggravates it too. To give your but a "vacation" go for bone broth AND a "semi-elemental food source " (which is expensive and is hard to get used to, but will give you easily digestible nutrients- though i found it to loosen things a bit, but not badly)
Love Dr W!
Thank you! Right back at you!
A few years ago, I had a food sensitivity test, I am now trying to avoid foods that I'm sensitive to and finding some improvements.
Best so far thank you
My pleasure!
This is really helpful 😢
Thank you!
Low fodmap definitely helped with my IBS-C symptoms. Many of the foods that I eliminated on the fodmap diet I continued to avoid permanently. I found if I had any of the high fodmap foods I started getting a flare up so I just avoid.
I'm so glad that it helped you. Which foods do you continue to avoid?
Thank you for this wonderful information! What about supplement that can help treat IBS? Thanks in advance!
My favorite supplements are on my website, www.IBSTreatmentCenter.com
Love your video, Bastyr Alum here. :D
Thank you!
Low FODMAP was a game changer and i found out my biggest triggers were onion and garlic. And they are in so many things like ALL soups, many condiments and even crackers and some breads. Been off them for months and hoping to reintroduce a few times a week. Fingers crossed 🤞
Good luck!
I have been on carnivore diet for 6 weeks and so far has slowed down my IBS symptons. Plus i have lost half a stone in weight. I dont feel so fatigued.
Congratulations!
Thank you ❤

Hey everyone, I have been living with IBS for 5 years and been to see many doctors and have a wide range of tests and diets. Right now it is under control for the most part largely due to a restrictive diet. However, the whole experience has lead me to look into food alternatives for people suffering with gut issues. I would love to know how it effects the wider community with regard to day to day life, my question is What are the biggest challenges/ pain points of individuals living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or similar gut issues? Personally for myself it is abdominal discomfort, eating out, drinking alcohol, dairy products, needing a toilet immediately with little notice, embarresment, working at my job while experiencing symptoms.
Low carb has been the best thing for me. I always thought it was fats because that us what society said the problem was. Nope, dropped carbs way down, so much better.
Nice. Thanks for sharing that. Everyone is different, right! Understanding that is the key to helping people with IBS.
I do great with rice, sour dough bread and potatoes
Thank you Doctor...
You are very welcome.
Steps to heal IBS (Note- While doing these, if you have bad period of irritation do intermittent fasting for not more than 2 days, only have your first meal by 2pm so that your body can rest and give you relief): 1. Identify your triggers 2. Your mental state is probably about 60% of the healing process, so realise that being healed isn’t really = happiness, people have very bad digestive issues daily and they may or may not have IBS, but digestive problems is a general problem of mankind; don’t let it ruin your mental health. 3. **Start doing Low FODMAPS and if you’re not Vegan, you can do carnivore or only fish based meal as one of your meals, ideally breakfast. 4. After 6 to 8 weeks blend Okro, Red bell Pepper, Ginger and Turmeric and take about 2 or 3 tablespoons for about 1 week. 5. Start introducing some High FODMAP foods gradually which could still be beneficial to your health like Salads, Fermented Vegetables and Apples especially in your dinner.
Careful with the cayenne pepper as IBS-D folks could have some issues.
@@SIBODigestionHealthTips-if8oc Quite true, Red Bell Pepper still do the job and are effective; but Scotch bonnets could trigger mild IBS
I've undergone a colonoscopy and blood test to rule out Coeliac or worse, thanks for that. I have IBS and to top it off a slow motility oesophagus, so small pieces of meat etc are the best. I have no gall bladder so guess that contributes at times with fluctuations in bile. Reflux is also a bother and as I love to exercise it can be really annoying when I think I've had a good break from food beforehand and suffer an attack. I am the process of eliminating my Lactose Free Milk and Yoghurt and my Gluten free bread to see if either of them is still a cause. My husband is our cook and forgets at times what is off my menu so I remind him but eat what he has prepared anyway! I'm 76 and this has been going on for some years and I have recently learned that depression can be a contributor, not funny at all. Anyway, I plod on, trying this and that, two meds only, with peppermint oil which is a help in hot water at night.
Thanks for sharing that! One of the things to know is that IBS is not about your age. We've had hundreds of patients in their 70's and older, and I've never found that to be an obstacle to them getting better. If you need more help, please contact us. We'd be happy to work with you. There are lots of reasons to believe that you can get your life back, and the reflux often improves too!
Do you happen to have Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome? I’ve been reading up on that and a lot of IBS symptoms are common with EDS.
@@melaniemeier6759 No. It's relatively rare. It's only about 1 in 20,000 people or so. IBS is about 1 in every 10 people.
@@melaniemeier6759Thanks for sharing this; I have ED and IBS…..
Careful with the GF bread as some contain high FODMAP ingredients. For example, the one I used to eat has prune juice, so that explained the bloating and gas after consuming.
It is Funny cause Spinach is one o f the biggest triggers for me.
Yes. We've seen that before in some patients. I'm glad that you sorted it out.
Not me, I eat a lot of raw spinach almost every day, but I didn't get better when I eliminated it for a few days
For me, I thought cabbage, alcohol, coffee, pasta, fruit yogurt, cream where all triggers. I eliminated things and felt 60% better. Then artichoke and mushrooms caused a severe attack.
I realised I was looking at it all wrong. What was priming the gun? I had been looking for triggers. I cut out shop bought bread completely. Health back to 100%. I have been able to reintroduce everything else. Was it the artificial raising agents, the chemical emulsifiers, the residual pesticides in cheap flour? Who knows?
What I do know is that none of the triggers are triggers anymore. But I now avoid ultra processed food altogether, including shop bread. I bake my own, any white flour I use is organic.
I decided to go vegan, and soon after, I started having several loose stools a day along with low abdominal cramps and back pain. Also bloating feeling unwell and feeling fatigued after pooping and sometimes chilled. I've been researching my symptoms and it sounds like IBS.
Yes, it does. Vegan isn't necessarily healthy for everyone. Also, "vegan" only describes what you don't eat. It says nothing about what you do eat. There are an endless number of different vegan diets. We'd love to help you figure out what is right for you!
@@IBSTreatmentCenter
Veganism is healthy for all age ranges, which is proven by science. Just because we have IBS doesnt mean plant based is unhealthy, it's just a lot harder for us.
@@setitheredcap2677 There are lots of ways to be vegan that aren't healthy. The word "vegan" only tell us what you don't eat. And science is about statistics, not about individuals. I've met many unhealthy vegans. If you have IBS, then you're not healthy.
Smoothies and Soups going to try it for a few days. In the last 5 days I've have 3 IBS upper stomach paint/hart burn issues.
Was there any improvement? Thank you
Me too 😢
Same here
For me the triggers are red meats, all dairy except yogurt, wine, coffee and tofu. I am completely eliminating them from my diet.
Meats & anything hard to

I am surprised that corn can be eaten in the low FODMAP diet for someone with IBS. Corn is extremely indigestible. In fact when you eat corn it often comes out when you pass motion because it is not digestible.
I'm not a fan of the low FODMAP diet.
I can’t eat corn, or baked beans.
Just got an attack after oatmeal with rye bran. All this time I thought it was walnuts but they probably don't help either. Eggs and coffee is a big no-no too. Coffee alone or eggs with no coffee are fine.
This was the first one I tried with no results. Then I stopped consuming animal products and oils (no breads or processed foods, either, had a little fish once a week or so). That helped a lot. I now have mild symptoms that bother me about every two months. I have started eating meat, eggs, and some yogurt with no sugar.
Excellent. Well done!
I didn't realize it but salads and raw vegetables were causing my IBS symptoms to be absolutely unbearable so now I steam my vegetables until they're a tad bit soft before I eat them and I noticed that it's making a world of difference I also cannot eat any type of garlic or onions garlic and onions make my IBS flare up awfully
Thanks for sharing that. We hear that a lot. There is something else causing all of that. If you ever want to figure out what it it, we'd be happy to work with you!
My current health problem and seek your medical advice. Over the past few month , I have been experiencing cramps in my abdomen, frequent bowel movements, stomach noises, and back pain. These symptoms have been persistent and are affecting my daily routine.

Can anybody else on this channel other than me feel their intestines move right before a flare
I'm sure that some other people experience that as well. It's not unusual for the gut to want to evacuate the problem, but the damage has been done.
I do
Im so far undiagnosised but have a lot of the symptoms
I started getting bad cramps and gas. I kept wondering why. I normally ate stuff like chickpea salads, green smoothies every day, chicken breast with broccoli. Who knew this was making me sicker. My doctor kept giving me GERD meds but deep down I knew it wasn't that. Until a new doctor told me last week to try FODMAP diet and it has helped significantly.
Congrats! If you ever want to get to the specific source and get foods back in your diet, we're here to help.

Stress and any clothing tight against my gut.
We'd love to help you with that!
when he says fatty or greasy foods, does that include olive oil, butter, avocado oil? im not sure how one gets enough calories in without a lot of (healthy) fats
I had bouts of IBS rarely when I was a kid, but over the years it has become more frequently. Once I retired, I felt I couldn't even leave the house. I am happy to say for me, the insult to my system are eggs and mayonnaise. Also pudding cake made with eggs. Other cakes made with eggs are fine. I have gone months now without getting sick. I told my wife, I was going to do an experiment. She made me tuna sandwich, which has mayo. Sure enough, I was sick during the day. I stopped eats again, and I have been fine.
Good for you! And thanks for sharing your experience. I've definitely seen people with egg reactions like that.
Wine makes me flare up~ IBS is truly more specific to your body. This is just a generalized explanation of how to handle flare ups and what to avoid. I have to consistently avoid hersheys chocolate and alcohol. Others may be different
Agreed.
I find hospital dieticians, nursing home, assisted living are the worse about understanding a soft food diet for a couple of weeks to heal and slowly introduced other foods. Immediately after colon surgery the tray will have steamed broccoli or a raw vegetable salad, fruit with skins😢.
Most places like that are pretty clueless about the role nutrition has in health. It's evident in the food they serve. Either that, or they simply don't really care.
Dear Dr. my problem is Candidates, please help me. Thank you and God Bless you.
This was great info but confused about the caffeine portion. It was first on the ok list but then I saw it on the avoid list. Can you please clarify?
So it seems you have to go on a liquid diet to help more severe symptoms.
I was wondering that too

Ty for this Video ! It took me 40 years to figure out what I couldn’t eat 😳
You are welcome. Did you figure it out? What was it?
So basically I have to choose between avoiding IBS flare-ups and not getting diabetes. I like the foods on both lists - eat/don’t eat - but it doesn’t seem like there’s a good balance 😢.
Only if you're focused on minimizing the symptoms. But if we were to work with you, this wouldn't be our treatment recommendation. It would be finding a much more dialed in plan specific to your needs, and include the diabetes. And you can certainly manage both very nicely together. We've had lots of patients do that.
@@IBSTreatmentCenter thank you. Thankfully I don’t have diabetes.
I think my main trigger is coffee.. anyone else? But I only drink latte.. so it could be milk
Well every doctor has it's opinon on what to eat or not. They told me to avoid broccoli coffee chocolate. The worst flare ups for me come with beef, eggs.
Federico. That's just the kind of generic information you can get on UA-cam. It's nothing like you would be treating you with if you were an actual patient. That would be fully customized and much different than this.
Anybody who says for everyone to cut out dairy and gluten IMMEDIATELY loses any credibility. There is absolutely no reason for everyone to do this. I have zero issues with either and both are really soothing to my system. Also, ignoring the psychological impact of a restrictive diet is also a huge red flag to me. If you have IBS with constipation you will never poop again in this dietary recommendation. The biggest trigger for me is incomplete bowel movements. I'm not even convinced I have IBS because doctors just dismiss symptoms as this when they don't have time to actually figure out what's wrong.
The only time when I did not think about my stomach is when I get really distrated with something .Even when my stomach is empty and I kept getting anxiety I will get diarrhae almost immediately
popcorn triggers mine and so dose cheese if i eat alot of it now can i have honey? with ibs?
Lettuce, any kind, but especially romaine, is killer. But I do well with cooked greens like Cabbage, chard, etc.
That makes sense. Many people have the same complaint.
Mine is coleslaw custard potato salad nuts 🥜 I’m having a flare up just now never out the toilet I agree I find it’s dairy products with me
We'd love to help put you in control so that you can stop having flare ups!
“This is what you have to avoid” proceeds to list basically everything😂 man I hate having chron’s
Lots of people feel the same way. But if that's all you eat, then that may be part of the problem. You may want to exploring more foods.
If you have 2 0r more conditions, it's virtually a sure thing that everything one doctor says to eat the other will ban. I once went to 2 doctors in one week: when I compared their diets, the only thing I could eat was skimmed milk. I gave up.
@@jocelynmartin1572 In my experience the conditions are often related, and the treatment is often related too. It sounds like you need better doctors.
Thearge amounts of cannabis started my IBS. I smoked too much and started getting paranoid. The anxiety led to IBS.
That's my theory
I still think illicit drugs are great. Will never stop using them either
Wow. I never cease to be amazed at the thing people will prioritize over their health.
Celery leaves juice is dangerous. I don't know about the stalk. Certain green juices are
Probiotics helped me
What happens if you have too much digestive gas? After my colon surgery, the doctors said my nervous system and digestice system weren't insync/ delayed. what happens now is my intestines expand and contract continuously, while emitting the gas that breaks down food. I need a sufficient amount of carbs or I get hungry way too quickly to the point where I become really weak and the gas worsens. Certain veggies like sweet potatoes and other gassy food, I avoid. I have suddenly developed this intolerance to ox liver, but also there are times when food that usually causes flare-ups don't affect me and my day to day food is starting to cause problems . I get a runny tummy immediately, which is bad because I can't take meds to treat the diarrhoea, even in very small doses. It constipates me immediately to the point where it feels there is something obstructing my bowel and that affects my mobility, almost like I have had a mini stroke. How would you suggest I prepare my food? Smoothies and soup won't work for me
We've had a lot of patients who come in because they developed problems post surgery. There are many reasons for that, and not just one easy answer I can give you. But there is an answer that we'd love to help you find. And on a related note, ask yourself what led to your colon not being healthy and needing surgery in the first place. Something was not right in your colon and that cause still needs to be sorted out.
@@IBSTreatmentCenter thank you for your reply. It was too long and it had looped around itself, the sigmoid region was removed.
I'm surprised corn was included as okay to eat since high fructose corn syrup is made from it. Corn is also GMO and heavily sprayed with pesticides, both of which will irritate the gut. And some believe corn contains gluten and/or other lectins.
These recommendations are generalities that can help a great number of people. If you'd like a more specific treatment plan customized to your needs, that is something else entirely and what we specialize in doing for our patients. We'd be happy to help you with that.
You got that rite!!
You can’t have chocolate but you can have Reese. Like ok 😂 bs
I have had IBS since my twenties and only once in a blue moon do I have a flare up. Recently I have suffered with constipation with my IBS . My problem is how to increase more fibre into my diet without it aggravating the IBS. It seems a vicious cycle at the moment!
