Very educated question. The answer is that we make a notch in the implant if it touches the nerve, the notch allows the implant to fit around the nerve without touching it. Many times the implant is below the foramen so in most cases it is not near the nerve.
Hi.. I just went through a cheek implant surgery and it looks wrong. The implants the surgeon put made my face looking wider and distorted. Upon your presentation, I understand I need the submalar implant to give the anterior fullness under my eyes. How quickly can I remove the implants and to switch it to submalar? I can't give med advice, but it is very common for patients to be concerned about result right after surgery. I tell my patients to wait 6 weeks and if they don't like them we can switch them out. Speak with your surgeon

Dear Dr Niamtu. I recently had a deep plant face lift with fat transfers to mid face. I had severe fat loss in my face due to prior SMAS plication that fell to lower face. I had been 9 month since my deep plane and I am seeing fat reabsorption from my transfers. I am 67 years and my plastic surgeon is considering cheek implants. Am I am too old and how will it affect my deep plane face lift and prior fat transfers. Will the implant fall with fat loss. I presently have a chin implant and it looks great with neck lift. If you use a medium submalar do you also choose a projection size? I just had cheek implants in January and they are medium but I feel like they project too much. Thanks, try to get on out in the future. The thing is that due to patient specific anatomy, you frequently can't tell what type of implant was used.

No, there is not feeling after they heal, I have them in my own face.

We do put it there and we relieve a notch in the implant to go around the nerve if it is close to the nerve.

Fillers are causing eyes to shrink, I think implants are the best choice.

Theoretically you can but there may be a lot of scar tissue there making it more difficult.

Has someone got this surgery? I got my cheek prostheses last week and the recovery is being really annoying ☹️
I tell my patients that the early recovery can be demanding but most patients do quite will with ongoing healing.

Implants are fine over deep plane and fat. If they are secured with microscrews (I always do that) they won't ever fall or move

Cheek implants are for volume just like filler, they generally don't help sagging skin
