This is amazing. You've made a review that contains almost everything I wanted to know. Maybe I would have liked to see more of the insides or the circuit since this still doesn't show much and I didn't manage to find any more info or pics anywhere else. I might just have to find out myself. Thank you.
About the voice control, I found it extremely interesting to use it with a clean amp (first half of the range, full tone) or with a crunchy/distorded amp (second half of the range, narrower and more biting tone). Very versatile!
Hi mate, yes it's a cool pedal. I also like playing around with the voice/tone knob. I'll check out your suggestion about the crunchy amp and voice/tone settings, thanks! Have you tried any of the other HB pedals?
@@AlexisGuitars I tried the Silly Fuzz but really disliked it (and I'm use to extreme and nasty fuzz though). I also tried the Fuzzy logic (fuzz face germanium) and that one was just ok, no more no less (there's many better fuzzfaces, even cheap). But the Dr. D is a keeper for sure and is on my pedalboard.
Good to know. I was considering the Fuzzy logic out of curiosity, but I'm not a fuzz person. Or rather, I haven't found the right fuzz for me yet. I have one more HB pedal review which should come out shortly. This weekend or next week. That is a cool pedal... definitely one I will be keeping for the board.
Yeah you can get some nice tones out of it. Need to be careful on the neck pickup that it doesn't get too muddy, but I'll be keeping it! Thanks for watching mate!
I like those tones you got out of it! From the sounds of it, it's really good value for money. As well as for the budget conscious players out there, I personally like these lower priced pedals as a great entry point to see if that style of pedal is for me.
Cheers Pana! Yeah there are some really nice tones from this pedal. I am also a fan of budget pedals. 20€ is ridiculously cheap I must say. It seems that a lot of the better budget pedals capture the essence of what they are cloning so that's a good point about using it to see if that style is for you.
That's hugely impressive for the price to my ears. I recently acquired in is the cheap Golden Horse mini pedal Klon clone and again for a sub £30 pedal it really impressed me v
There are definitely some very useable tones in there! Amazing what budget gear offers these days. I've heard that the golden horse is one of these hidden gem affordable pedals. Need to try one for sure
Almost all pedals that say Dumble style drive with a voice knob are clones of the Hermida Zendrive. The notched pots are a very nice feature, especially considering the price.
The main issue I'm having with all these cheap mini-stomps from HB and others, is complete option paralysis. I'd have to have two power supplies on the board to power them all, or just have two boards, I guess - one budget and one fancy 😁
@@AlexisGuitars their drive pedals are really cool and the angel wings chorus pedal is really nice! Im 52 and have only been playing really seriously for 5 years so I’m intermediate I guess. I hope my hands and mind stay sharp long enough to keep improving. I gig weekly in a classic rock cover band. I play rythm guitar and keyboard and i sing backing vocals. We have 10 or so originals and we mix one or two in a night. I live in a mid sized town and its hard to get gigs unless you play covers.
I really like the cheap mini-pedal idea as an impulse buy kind of thing. Unfortunately, they keep raising the prices on these things so they become less attractive as impulse buys. A deal today is gone tomorrow. Azor, Cuvave, Donner, ISET, Movall, Sonicake ... these are all brands with a very similar looking pedal. Since there are no sound samples on the HB or Thomann websites, it would be helpful to get a review of each pedal ... :)
Yes these HBs are definitely impulse buy prices! I've got a couple more reviews coming. Would be great to review then all but that would mean me buying them all haha. Thanks for watching mate!
@@AlexisGuitars You can always ask if they would donate any pedals to the cause. You never know. :) Failing that ... we can match by description the pedals with the version from Tom'sline.
It’s just nonsens to say that this pedal does not sound as good as a so called “boutique” pedal. It is well known by now that the circuits in those cheaper pedals are often exact copies of those much to expensive ones. There are enough vids on YT where they do comparisons between the expensive original and the cheap copy, and you would not be able to hear a difference. This HB Dr D pedal sounds awesome!
Hey, nice video. One thing, your camera seems to zoom in and out just a little and when you cut it together the picture "jumps" in and out a little. That is a little disturbing. Besides that I have no complaints :-)

Thank you very much mate! Really glad you found it helpful. Interesting point with regarding the circuit board. I'll consider that for future reviews!

On the HB Amarican sound the voice knob is also amazing, also an under 30€ limit...
For the price the pedal sounds pretty decent! Great for beginners that are just starting out learning what pedals do 😃👍
Great video Alexis! ✌️

Thanks for the review.
It looks like all these HB pedals are re-branded Tomsline (Rowin).
Dumbler, Plexion, Manic etc.
Yes I've opened up another one and it was also a tomsline circuit. It seems most are sold out now at Thomann anyway! Thanks for watching mate

haha yes it's crazy what you can get for little money these days!
I cant decide between this one and Plexicon, i look for gainy overdrive and both sound like a good pick.
Yes both are fun pedals for the price! Hope you enjoy whichever you go for :)
gostei, voce e muito honesto na avaliação, tenho o "gumble" e gostei deste som, parabens .
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Have you played through any tone city pedals? If so how do they compare?
I haven't tried Tone City but only heard good things. There are a couple I'd like to try for sure

Yes there are some demos of tom'line out there. Some are pretty straight forward to tell which is which
Does it support 18v?
I don't think so!
Forget the pedal, I’m saying the sound is coming from the guitar and player 👍

What guitar is that?
Hi mate, I built it earlier this year for the great guitar build off competition. There are 6 episodes of the build process on my UA-cam channel.
@@AlexisGuitars do you sell them?
Not yet! Still mastering the craft. One day, though! Watch this space :) Thank you very much for your interest

Not my cup of tea.
