That first chord you smashed at 0:08 was really good as an introduction.🤗 I really appreciate how you take the pedals through all their settings and options. 👍
3:30 You're not using P90s, a Gibson or a custom modded Laney but that is as close to an early Tony Iommi lead tone you can get. Trust me, I have an Iommi signature SG and started playing by learning his riffs. I've recently been thinking how different equipment can get you in the ballpark of the same tone. Like my HB Tele with stick Roswell pups, a knock off TS808 into a DSL, gain maxed, treble at 2, mids 7, bass 7, MV full, Pre amp, close to 0 get me an amazing Yngwie Malmsteen tone. (Yes I have a fake YJM made out of a Squier and GHS parts and a half round file...). Yet it's not a Plexi, not a DOD250, not a Strat with stacked humbuckers, no compressor and a tiny touch of chorus, just because I know that would annoy a lot of people if they noticed it. Dash of delay and REVERBBBBBB and voila. Got Toneriders in my Epiphone and through the same rig it's super epic, so maybe I could get that last remaining tiny bit of gain I crave by having a Plexicon pushed by the TS. To get more of that power stage overdrive, so crucial to a good Plexi tone. Of course I'm realising my 20 year dream of getting an actual Plexi but even then apparently people put these in front of actual SLPs for a mega Plexi tone....
Bought this pedal 2 day ago and I second your opinion absolutely. Great pedal, I was just blown away with the soundquality you get for 20 bucks. I would love to see more of those ministomp pedals from HB. Dealbreaker for example :-)
Glad you also enjoy the tones. I was pretty amazed first time plugging it in. Well, all I'm going to say is there are two more HB pedals still in their box sitting here... Maybe one of them is the dealbreaker!
Stick a bit of tippex or something in the notches of the knobs to see the position better. Pedal sounds pretty cool, might have to grab one, certainly my favourite out the ones you've done so far.
Funny what you say about "all it takes is a dot". I hated my Telecaster knurled knobs and my wife has a Cricut machine...she cut two 1mm or maybe smaller dots and put them on the knobs and it changes EVERYTHING
Hey Alexi, some great tones there and an amazing run right at the beginning of your demo. Did the pedal inspire you perhaps? Sounds like it! I wonder if this pedal is a clone of something else. Ideas anyone?
Thanks Peter! Yes I was definitely inspired playing through this pedal. It even made me attempt tapping for the first time in a while. I really don't know what it is a clone of, but yeah, if anyone has any ideas please drop them below! Thanks for watching mate.
Yes so far all the HB pedals in this new line that I've checked are rebranded Tomsline pedals. I'm not sure if the Tomsline is a clone of a specific pedal, though.
@@AlexisGuitars They are, this is likely based on the MI Audio Crunch Box. Tomsline likely got this from mooer and then sold these boards to Harley Benton.
Thanks for the review. It seems I have a prototype of this pedal, i.e. the Tomsline Plexion. Also I have the same Joyo Bantamp Jackman, but it's the 2nd version with a foot switch. Frankly speaking, this pedal is not so good, when there is a Jackman. A cranked Jackman sounds more naturally and has clear voicing, compared to the Plexion. I suppose that this pedal is good for Fender style amps to get those kinds of "Marshall" tones.
Hi mate thanks for the feedback! So far playing it through my Jackman and two orange amps (terror stamp and TH30) I've really enjoyed the tones on a clean channel/setting. I also don't think this pedal is the most authentic sound, but I think it sounds good nonetheless.
Just bought a Dr. D and a Plexicon. Both sound nice, but BOTH get microphonic beyond a certain volume setting. It doesn´t matter much, when your volume setting equals the loudness of your clean amp. It only occurs at such high volume settings that it gives you a boost you surely don´t want. But everyone who wants tu use it as a permanent preamp should be warned.‼
I have a feeling I picked the better ones from the collection (with exception of the heat which isn't quite for me!). I've watched some other reviews on youtube and some pedals are less convincing. I've got another review coming when I have time and that's another good one, though!
Weirdly enough they no longer appear on Thomann's site! I don't know if that means they are out of stock? Hopefully they come back, as it's a bit pointless having a video on it otherwise
Yes that's what I've ended up doing on some of them. My point was not that it was an unsolvable issue, it's an inconvenience at most. I was pointing out the design flaw as it comes out of the box
What are your thoughts on the Plexicon?

Yeah that's what I'm going to do, especially on this one which I can see myself using regularly.

Haha the dots make all the difference! I'm thinking of using some tippex to mark some dots on these. Slightly less high-tech!

Sounds and looks like Toms Line Plexi, you can find their range of pedals for cheap on Amazon.

Thanks for the info! I haven't noticed them being microphonic but I haven't played them at very loud volume
È buono per fare cover ACDC?
They are a good range of pedals from your reviews

buy a Tipp-Ex marker and draw the dots yourself...
