Cory, I think I left a review before but since your video is so well done, I'm leaving another comment. This IS EXACTLY how you do a pedal comparison; thank you!
I have both. American is awesome for clean tones. I have a hard time getting a good crunch sound from the California. Very small turns of the knob are drastic in sound. Maybe it’s just me

Really great review. Each one has its own uniqueness so adding all 4 to the pedal collection for optimal choice is the only way to go for me...😁 Thank you for taking the time to do the comparison. I have the Actone and California, definitely will be adding the Brittish and American soon..
I genuinely commend your English bc it beats my broken German by infinity. One thing, however, in English, it REE--view. Long E sound. Love how you did these comparisons. One of the few effective and helpful pedal comparisons online. VERY well done. Ty for your work. God Bless.
I use the American sound and a.c. tone, for the price these are incredible pedals, of course the snobs will never show the love , love all my joyo pedals!!!
These budget effects manufacturers have really decoded these units. This is a $30 pedal! I bought from Thomann so shipping was another $25 but I'm not losing any sleep over it. This is an awesome pedal. Several years back I had a Marshall 1987X Plexi that I slammed a DOD 250 into the front end with so it was all juicy EL34 power tube distortion. A "one trick pony" to be sure, but to this day I compare all of these "Marshall In a Box" pedals against that tone. I would be willing to bet that a blindfolded "Pepsi Challenge" would reveal that you would not be able to tell the difference. This little jewel is that good. Solid build. True bypass. Nice, dead quiet foot switch. Very tweakable. Get one before Harley Benton realizes what they have and doubles their price!

Edit: I've since updated my setup. I got the British and I now own a 5 watt tube amp. Only one volume and one tone knob. No effects loop. Signal chain is as follows: guitar > tuner > noise gate > wah > joyo vintage overdrive (ts clon) > joyo british > eq > delay > amp. It really works wonders. I've never been happier with my sound. I'm looking to get another one, so I came back to this review to help me choose. Great job! You really helped me improve my sound!
In fact they are all the same with subtle difference of equalization, drive and voicing ! Most of them are sold around 25€ on AliExpress in their original Joyo brand.

Very usefull comparison. These are great pedals for a certain purpose. Simple, analog sound, flexible. I don't understand there are not more like these. The original tech 21 pedals are hard to get and seem discontinued. The new tech 21 ones, way too expensive. A sSimplifier too expensive and not so simple. Harley Benton has a fantastic pedal line with these ! I already love the Actone and ordered British and American
Sorry, we need a smooth sounding pedal like the California. I love it. Most pedals sound too aggressive to me because of too much highs. Too much bite. We don't want all distortion pedals sounding the same. We need smooth musical ones too.
I bought the American for its very clean sound which I'm going after for my use case. and I can always crank up the drive and mids if I want a dirtier sound.
hi Cory thanks for your hard work... I really appreciate your reviews since I discover Harley Benton Brand you have been one of the main man to go for that info... Greetings from Berlin!
The only one which is quite different is the "Actone" because it doesent has that analog cab sim which cut a lot of high frequencies. Thats the reason why so few voted for that pedal in the comments. The other three pedals sounding more pleasant as stand alone but the "Actone" is very usefull as a Tube Screamer like overdrive pedal and for some Queen and Beatles tones. There is also a Extreme Metal one which is nice too.
I have them all except the American. They all sound great really and have plenty tweakability(is that a word?)You are definitely right about the California,it is very low end heavy but my GE-7takes care of that.I think it is my favourite though the AC Tone really does capture that Vox mojo.I love my ever growing Distortion collection and have grit of every kind,so much so I choose 1 every day,put it on my board in the spare slot and either record or just noodle around.Thank you Cory for turning me on to this gear, they sound great and are affordable,if they can make such great pedals at low price, why buy a certain company's plastic pedals?
Alright, so which should I use for a Frusciante tone? I imagine the California, but I don't know if I assume that because of the name... also, John is a devoted Marshall guy, so would the British be the right one?
American = Fender Deluxe/Tweed (SRV style tones - bluesy and clean) AC Tone = Vox AC-30 (from Beatles to Brian May) British = Marshall JCM series (800 or 900 perhaps?) California = Mesa-Boogie (voice control sweeps between MKII C+ and MK IV series, and maybe a bit of Dual Rectifier?)
Thanks man! I like the AC Tone the best for medium drive, and the least for heavy drive! lol the heavy drive on the American actually sounds much better than the drive on my HR Deville!
Hi Cory! First of all thank you for the comparison! Very well done! I want to purchase the Harley Benton JA60 with wilkinsons and I can see it fits quite well with the California pedal (full sound of that P90s), my amp doesnt have a switch pedal so im searching for a more grungy pedal but with a little bit of fullness. Do you recommend me the california one!? Thank you sir! Btw new suscriber!
Sadly the Harley Benton's no longer have the Wilkenson PUP's so perhaps you were lucky and grabbed one before the Roswell switch. The California is a fat bottom pedal and mixed with the crisp P-90's you could get some cool tones. I own American, AC, British... but passed on the California. I love these pedals for their large variety of usable and familiar tones. You can not and will not lose by purchasing any of this pedal line.
@@thehound2161 I want 3 od pedals in my effect pedals board that can act as od1 (blues rock, fender amp like) , od2 (rock, marshall amp like) and od3 (heavy rock, metal, mesa boogie amp like).. would you recommend me to use these joyo amp sims? And which one you think can fulfll those 3 needs? Thank you.
Can I use these amp sims to switch all my od/ds pedals? I am interested to try this amp instead... Also will it sounds good if I plug it into amp input?
I have them all. They all sound the same in _bypass_ (joke). My findings: American and AC Tone are equally fab, British is very good, California not so good. They benefit greatly from a decent third party speaker sim if DI is what you are doing. They would all be better if the internal cab sim was switchable. Note: Joyo have now released Oxford/Orange model.
the California is much darker. I have the American and it plays clean or slightly modulated real well. If I was to but another it would either be British or AC Tone.

Hello Cory! don't know if you reviewed or tested the ''Donner Giant Metal drive'' mini pedal. Could imagine, you would like it for the heavy metal scream, not sounding like a swarm of constipated bees... haha. Nice review as allways, by the way !
Hi Cory, first of all, I would like to say a big Thank You for your high quality reviews and I would like to ask you that, why is it, that these pedals are not just Harley Benton pedals but also Joyo pedals? I mean, which company is the original "creator", if you know what I mean. And again, thank you for your reviews and sorry if it's a silly question.
Brian James used a Hi Watt amp a Marshall esq type of amp so the Briiish tone pedal would probably be best. Even Captain Sensible tends to use Marshalls When he plays New Rose. It’s certainly crunchy and dirty but not fizzy
... 03/18/2020: Hello, I love your video lessons. You mentioned you want viewers to reply with what viewers would like to see. OK, how about demonstrating the Fender 2x12 speakers Wholetone solid-state amp. I have some doubts about it: (1) Very pricey solid-state, (2) No effects loop, (3) No headphone jack (Note: The switch on the back is nothing more or less than a volume selector switch, so headphones are still desirable), (4), I understand it is trying to imitate the tube amp, but one of my questions for both the tube and solid-state Fender amps is why two channels to plug a guitar cable into? Why not just one guitar jack channel for totally clean (1-10 volume), and then dial in by hand or foot switch the reverb and tremolo? Also, Fender brags about its amps clean channel being great. But, in their tube amps the clean channel breaks up when the volume hits about "3" and I can understand that in a tube amp. But, in a solid-state amp, the clean channel should stay clean maxed out the volume (1-10). So, why not have in a solid-state amp a clean-channel that stays clean at maxed-out volume, and just has the Reverb and Tremolo and Distortion knob that can be dialed in. So, it would have one guitar cable jack for totally clean, and thee knobs for Reverb, Tremolo, and Distortion. I have the 2006 (14-years old technology is great) Peavey Bandit red-stipe solid-state amp that actually does all that, and it only cost me $200.00, and a Randall 100W solid-state head with 4-speaker cab that does all that for $500.00. Also, look at the 2020 Katana Series solid-state amps with the same good features. So, why is Fender charging about $1,000.00 for a solid-state amp that seems to not be as technologically good and cost-effective as other solid-state amps? Besides it does sound good, what do you think?
I totally agree, I use, among others, a pristine 1995 Peavey Bandit Sliver Stripe I bought for UK£80,-. I simply look at the new Fender gear in amazement at the asking price and how little they offer. And yet produce adverts that portray these items as the saviour of all things good and the well being of mankind.
I wish the british and american were compared right next to each other, they do sound quite similar compared to the other two.... anyway, this was very helpful :)
@@ZEGO24x I've switched from these to the joyo uzi, its bias knob makes it really versatile for sounding "british" or "american" and it just sounds *good*
In all seriousness, I'm probably going to buy all four pedals. It will still cost LESS than $200 US Dollars, and you're basically buying the tone-prints of 4 classic amps, plus more depending on how you set the "Voice" controls. You can get so many tones with these.
Oh, have you tried it? I had given thought to splitting the signal and running, for example, a clean American with a slightly broken British or something to that effect. I've been using an AC Tone as a DI for some time now and have been very pleased with the results. Slap it on the pedal board and you don't have to worry about hauling an amp and mic around, and it sounds good enough that nobody will really notice the difference. I know some people get an extra little something when running a Fender and a Marshall in parallel so I had hoped you could get a similar effect with simulators.
I'm a big fan and promoter of parallel. I'm not a guitarist, I do audio tech and use a lot of pedals fur experimental and drone synth work. I use y splitters and or matrix mixers to run parallel and series fx chains, sometimes feeding them back into each other. The best guitar tone I ever heard was an average guitar split parallel into a muff, screamer, Guvnor, hm2, Met Zone and Gristliser into a Kustom Defender 5w tube and 1x12. Apart from the Guvnor the pedals were clones. It was so rich in harmonics, you had the option to shape the drive and more importantly the eq in so many ways. Because I was using a matrix mixer I spent the night blending these with series chains and feedback. It would be great to see a proper guitarist using this set up. It's interesting to see many boutique pedal builders, who are creating modern refined twin/triple dirt pedals are giving the option of series and parallel signal switching.
can´t say, didnt had the Mooers so far. but i can say i use the actone and american daily on my pedalboard. they are such a bargain for what they can deliver. can´t go wrong for these prices.
Hey, Cory thanks a heap I just ordered 1, $20.00 USD + $6.00 USD Shipping. I think that is a good deal. Thanks for the video, I have the ACtone its good. I like to just run them straight home recording. I am amazed at the Pedal market when I started playing I got KENT Distorter, in 1965 used from a friend. He got a Vox Buckingham that have a clipper installed so I got the pedal which I used with 1484 SIlvertone Amplifier. Gosh, I am just now getting into pedals. But thats good I am having fun.

Perfect...

Clean drive = Ac tone
Low drive = California
Mids drive = American
High Gain drive= British
man, the british sound is soo good, very smooth and balanced. I ordered one on the internet, can´t wait to test it.
I just bought a Joyo California. I love its warmth from the demo. British is quite something too

I really like your test method
Awesome video! Thank you!!!!
I wish the british and american were compared right next to each other, they do sound quite similar compared to the other two.... anyway, this was very helpful :)
New link (a week old) has done JUST that... It's a good source...
@@ZEGO24x I've switched from these to the joyo uzi, its bias knob makes it really versatile for sounding "british" or "american" and it just sounds *good*
4:09 vs 4:20 vs 4:32 vs 4:44
NOW THIS IS WHAT A TEST SHOULD LOOK LIKE
May i use them to plug in directly into a mixer with no amp?
Yavuzcan Erbaysal They are really meant to use directly without an amp since they’re amp simulators.
In all seriousness, I'm probably going to buy all four pedals. It will still cost LESS than $200 US Dollars, and you're basically buying the tone-prints of 4 classic amps, plus more depending on how you set the "Voice" controls. You can get so many tones with these.
Altes Video aber....für meine Ohren sind der british und California die brauchbaren 😁
Cory, would you play those preamps with bass?
I have recoded bass direct using the Joyo American with an MXR Dyna Comp, and the results were excellent
@@johnspokus you put it in front of the amp? Using amp input?
What do they sound like in parallel?
Are these pedals supposed to be simulations of different amps like marshal, fender, mesa boogie etc. ?
From left to right: Marshall, Vox, Fender, Mesa Boogie.
hi can this pedal work on a LINE input of a portable amp?
What song is the first PRS loop from?
man, i cannot decide
hambucker pickup : california sound
single pickup: american sound
All good it depends on what guitar what music you playing, again american can cover most all, if I was getting just one.. but all are flexible..
What's that song in the background of the first minutes?
I have the American one, and quite fancy the set, tbh..
These or the new Mooer micro preamps?
can´t say, didnt had the Mooers so far. but i can say i use the actone and american daily on my pedalboard.
they are such a bargain for what they can deliver. can´t go wrong for these prices.
For some reason the Jazzmaster loop reminds me of Canadian rockers from the '90s.
What's with the Harley Benton thing. I have these Joyo Pedals and they all sound the name with out a different name?
they are just rebranded and the Harley Bentons costs less at least here in germany
But thats good I am having fun.
british sound can be used as overdrive or amp simulator and actone can be used as distortion
Fuck it, for 120 ill have em all
Better review bro thanks a lot
