If you didn't notice, the Tanzania Flag is also the combination of the Tanganjika and the Zanzibar flag. You can clearly see the fusion when they're displayed along with the British and German Empire ones.
I love how Barb's mother imitated that famous newsreader on KCTV! Also, the nose inhalers are a super popular thing in Thailand and I bought tonnes when I was on holiday in Bangkok.
@@smallgalaxy7509 It's the same thing as "vicks inhaler" it helps relieve the feeling dizzinness and nausea. Hey, this is Ciaran (from Australia.) So glad you got my package, though I don't live in America anymore. We moved back to Australia a few years ago, so I sent that from the Gold Coast. PS: Your mom trying to speak North Korean was hilarious
A friend of mine is Thai. She cooks amazing food with a lot of peppers, cilantro, garlic and lemongrass. She is crazy about lemongrass. She drinks lemongrass tea on a daily basis for example. She also told me a lot about the culture over there. For example that they have a lot of respect for their elderly. When you are in a conversation with elder people, you cannot interupt even though they’re wrong. She found it very frustrating sometimes.
Respecting your elders to a default is pretty common in almost all ethnic communities including the one I grew up in. I don’t find it frustrating as old people are often right and we’re to ignorant to understand them until we get older 😂
Thank you so much barbs for helping me learn so much about the world! As April fools day is fast approaching, I would like to recommend that you do a video on the republic of new rearendia from the cars series. I hope you continue shedding light on the world around us!
hey i just had an idea, you should do a series called geography then, where you talk about countries that don't exist anymore like the roman empire, or the u.s.s.r i dunno, just a thought ~ king goblin.
Reminds me about Aime Cesaires version of Shakespeares The Tempest, called A Tempest, where caliban would say Uhuru and seek freedom from prospero rather than being a more monstrous creature as in Shakespeares play.
You also forgot to mention Singeli music!!! It's really cool and involves really fast high BPM repetitive rhythms and sometimes MCing over the beats. Nyege Nyege Tapes is a really cool label that puts out a lot of it and I hope you mention them in the Uganda episode
The alcohol you got in the package from Serbia is not rakija sadly, its Vinjak, a type of brandy and Gorki List, something similar to Jaegermeister, basically a herb spirit.
In Tanzania politeness is a custom. You can't address your elders by their first name, even if you aren't related an older woman is either aunt or Ma, older Man is uncle or Baba, if they are very old then grand pa or grand ma. Your older siblings or any person that look like your agement but you dont don't know their name are Brother or sister and should be addressed as such. So if you plan to visit Tanzania please be prepared to be polite and respectful Also don't be suprised if people just randomly greet you on the road😂 or if you meet in a waiting area or a public transport e.t.c it's very normal being greeted by strangers. If you are asking for something, of favor or buying something with your own money you have to say 'please' and afterwards 'thank you' There's also a slang language for peer group that you can't use with adults. Some few important swahili words are-: 1. Shikamoo (greeting to elders) the reply is Marhaba 2. Hujambo (how are you?) The reply is Sijambo 3. Mambo (greeting for peers) the reply is Poa 4. Naomba (please may I) 5. Asante (thank you) THIS IS VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT GUYS😂 6. Hapana (No) 7. Tafadhali (Please) 8. Habari (it sort of means like some one enquiring if all is well with you) the reply is usually Salama 9. Karibu (welcome) the reply is Asante These are some of important phrases that if you are coming to Tanzania, it's important that you know and use them frequently Karibuni sana Tanzania..mjiskie mpo nyumbani😊 PS:- Nobody actually uses the phrase Hakuna Matata in conversation😂

Low chance Barbs even sees this but vinjak is NOT rakija. Vinjak is distilled wine and tastes SORTA like cognac, but a bit stronger.
