  • This video is about making a long lasting DIY CO2 system for planted aquarium using jelly powder, sugar, yeast and baking soda. This low budget DIY CO2 system is cheap but highly effective and will last longer than other common methods. With this method, you can provide carbon dioxide to your aquarium plants for 3 to 4 weeks (~1 month). In the video, you will learn how to build a long lasting DIY CO2 generator kit for aquarium, followed by the recipe for carbon dioxide production.

    Thanks Kaushik, i could get this system working at home. Only thing is the reaction starts slow, we need to wait for a few hours. Initially i wasn't patient enough. But then left it for good and during night sometime the reaction started well and its going great now. I have the CO2 in my aquarium and you saved me atleast 10k on full set up. Great going.

    What is the baking soda in this recipe used for? I have created similar reactor according to instructions from the other video (and it works well), but no baking soda was mentioned, so I'm just curious. Thank you for the detailed description in this video 👍

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  18 днів тому

      Here, baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate, acts as a buffer. In this method, alcohol is produced in the bottle during CO2 production, and the yeast-water solution gradually becomes acidic. Yeast can't tolerate too much acidity and dies. So, when we use baking soda, it stabilizes the pH of the yeast-water solution and prevents the yeast from dying too early. Thus, the duration of CO2 production increases. But if you use hard water, you can skip adding baking soda.

    amazing diy co2 kit, but I am facing a problem with co2 diffuser. it is creating and diffusing the co2 with diy diffuser(used cigarette filter) but not with the one that I purchased from the aquarium shop. please help, looking forward for your reply on this

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  Місяць тому +1

      A ceramic CO2 diffuser requires a lot more pressure to work. So you have to wait a few more hours, so that enough pressure builds up in the bottle and then the diffuser will work properly. Also, you can increase the amount of yeast from 1/2 to 1 teaspoon, to increase CO2 production and the pressure as well.

    • @ivanivan5627
      @ivanivan5627 18 днів тому

      I have completely same problem as you, the glass difuser does not work, so I created one from the cigarette filter. My impression is that the one from the cigarette filter works very well, so I don't need the other one anyway 🤷

      ধন্যবাদ, এই CO2 সিস্টেম টা অনবরত চালু থাকবে, যতক্ষণ না জেলি সম্পূর্ণ শেষ হয়ে যাবে | এটা বন্ধ করা যাবে না আর বন্ধ করার চেষ্টাও করবেন না কারণ CO2 গ্যাস এর production এখানে continuously হতেই থাকবে | রাতে শুধু একটা air-stone বা power-head চালিয়ে একোয়ারিয়ামের জলের উপরিভাগ আন্দোলিত করবেন যাতে CO2 গ্যাস জল থেকে বেরিয়ে যায় | এতে একোয়ারিয়ামের মাছের কোনও ক্ষতি হবে না |

Problem is, first day the C02 supply is sufficient but after a day or two its reduced significantly. Plz suggest me something so that I hv a steady C02 supply.

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  6 місяців тому

      Ok, do the following:
      1. Check for leaks in the CO2 system by entirely submerging the system along with the diffuser into a bucket of water. If you see bubbles coming out of any joints, there is a leak, and you need to fix it accordingly.
      2. Use 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of branded, good-quality yeast and use warm (not hot) water to activate it.
      3. The CO2 diffuser also needs to be cleaned regularly, as its pores occasionally get clogged after continuous use.
      4. Change the yeast solution weekly to maintain a stable CO2 supply in the tank.
      Thank you.

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  6 місяців тому

      This is different from a pressurized CO2 system where the CO2 gas can be stored. In this method, the yeast will continuously produce CO2 in the bottle during the fermentation process, and this CO2 production cannot be stopped. Forcibly stopping the flow of CO2 gas will completely damage the CO2 kit.

Planted aquarium ke liye 8 ghante se 10 ghante tak light ON rakhna zaruri hai, isliye tab tak CO2 ki supply karna chahiye. Aur information ke liye video description dekhiye. Thank you bro. No, it is absolutely safe, just make sure that the flow of CO2 gas is not blocked, otherwise the bottle may explode.

    Is there a way to control the amount of CO2 entering the aquarium. Any equipments you know of? I am thinking of using Tropica 3-in-1 diffuser and the rest as you suggested.
    We need to control inflow of CO2 depending on tank size, right?

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  Місяць тому +1

      Here, the CO2 production depends on the quality and quantity of yeast. So, you can control the CO2 production or bubbles per second (bps) rate by increasing or decreasing the amount of yeast. If 1/4 teaspoon of yeast does not produce enough CO2 for your tank, you can use 1/2 teaspoon of yeast to increase the bps rate. I have found (in a normal bubble counter) that 1/2 teaspoon of yeast can produce CO2 at a rate of 2 bubbles per second for about 10 days. Then the production of CO2 gradually decreases as well as the bps rate. So to provide CO2 in the tank at a steady rate, I recommend refreshing the yeast-water every week. And besides this method, you can also use a needle valve for fine-tuning.

      In this method, the CO2 in the bottle will be produced continuously and can’t be stopped. You can run an air pump at night to keep the aquarium's water oxygenated.

      Thank you. My research is pointing me to try a 7 gallon black bucket, insulated to hold a more consistent temperature. I'll have to experiment from there. A voice in my head wants me to use this as a way to make some good ale brews but that would be stepping too far over the line for public service. However for personal aquarium use for people interested in home brew, it might make aquarium maintenance more enjoyable. Cheers! ,🍻

      হ্যাঁ আপনি একটি বোতল এবং স্যালাইন কিট ব্যবহার করতে পারেন। তবে রেগুলেটর বন্ধ করবেন না, কারণ বোতল-এ অনবরত CO2 গ্যাস উৎপাদিত হতে থাকবে। বোতল-এ অত্যাধিক পরিমাণে চাপের সৃষ্টি হলে CO2 সিস্টেমটি নষ্ট হয়ে যেতে পারে। আর এই জেলি ৪-৫ সপ্তাহ বাদে বাদে চেঞ্জ করতে হবে।

    What is the use of the Check Valves and why two valves used, and how could we control the drops per second, if using controller where it would be best to place it.

    • @madebykm
      @madebykm  2 роки тому

      Check Valves or Non-Return Valves allow air to flow in one direction (into the tank) and stop water from flowing in the other direction (out of the tank). For more information, see the video description.
