I literally was just going to search for easy DIY Co2... and BAM! There you are! Thanks a bunch! Also I'd love to see a video on some local fish around your country you love that are not very easily exported... and then some fish you prob would never get your hands on in your area that you would love to keep?
I agree, I would of added a 2nd bottle as a scrubber for the foam , but I really like how your video is to the point, cheap and my favorite word Efficient , this video and all of your set ups got me to sub. I'm looking forward to more videos from you. (BTW the piano hinge on your lid made me pause the video and take a closer look, I love it as a small flap to access the tank as I also use that type of polycarb/plastic for lids, sweet idea! )
For those of you wondering, took me a while to find what it was called. That nice bottle cap is called a brine shrimp cap. Great work ryo! My wife and I love your videos
You literally saved my life. I was spending the whole time looking for it on ebay and amazon while playing the video background, and regret didnt scroll down here before doing that.
I purchased a IV bottle of water and an IV setup. You don't need any kind of license or anything to buy these. Yea I was a medic in a previous life (not literally if you believe in past lives, just a long time ago). That gives you the bottle with a cap that has a rubberized center that you can puncture with the spike from the IV setup. The IV line is not big enough so you will just cut the rest off and put a regular air line on. Cut the IV line about 2 inches from the spiked part and slide the airline over what is left of the original tubing. I made the mistake of not leaving enough of the original line because I just pulled on it thinking it would pop of like air line. It doesn't just cut it. You might also try heating the area here the lines overlap a bit because I think that would make them shrink down a little and seal. I also advise to just reuse the original hole from the spike over and not puncture it again because I think it leaks because of the pressure inside the bottle. I think it leaked through that hole the last time I pulled the spike out to refill the kit. But the hole is easy to see and re-spike in the same spot. Also the bottle is much thicker and studier than the drink bottle.
I've sometimes wanted some Co2 for a couple of weeks just to get new setups started easier, but I didn't want to invest in all of the equipment just for a temporary jumpstart. This seems like a great affordable solution. Thanks for this video!
DIY co2 is a really great option in my opinion. I think adding a second bottle would be better to act as a diy bubble counter and to clean the particles so it wouldn't get into your tank.
Another way to prevent the foaming is perhaps to first dissolve the sugar in hot water on the stove and add gelatine. Let that mixture cool but put it into the bottle before the gelatine completely sets. The yeast will need more time to eat all the sugar and one bottle might last longer this way.
@@TheRealTMar I saw the video 3 years ago showing how to use gelatin. In fact the length of the diffusing time is the same but the sugar can be reused many times.
Oh my gosh such great ideas Ryo! Love the rolling plastic garbage can idea for water changing! So much easier than lugging the 5g Home Depot bucket from my fish room to outside as I was doing!! Love the little varnished table top too! Am sure you’ll find that very handy & useful! 👍🏻
Hey Ryo, great video as always! I'd suggest you to add gelatin to sugar and water solution and put it in the fridge for a couple of hours. And then add east in water with small addition of sugar in it. That way your setup will last much longer before you need to restart it. :)
BTW, Coke bottles already have CO2 in them. Carbonated drinks' tangy/ acidic taste is due to carbonic acid (H_2CO_3). This acid breaks into water (H_2O) and carbon dioxide (CO_2). A suitable method would have been to add the yeast to the Coke bottle, as it already contains about 240g of sugar.
I used basically the same method years ago. I did a 2 liter bottle, basic tubing, and an air stone. Same mixture. This time I want to do a diffuser with diy co2 in the tank I setup recently.
Have one of the ready made Japanese yeast bottle C02 kits and it's great! Buce and crypts haven't die yet anyway! It seems a bit more subtle than other C02 methods though.
I think I'll cut this down to a third in the same 1ltr bottle, and and let it be more of a one week boost here and there. Great presentation. I can use this for dry seed germination too as I'm starting Monte Carlo seeds this morning for a new tank. Thanks
Good going ! This is exactly how I set my diy co2 😅 - no check value , no second bottle to ‘clean’ the co2 . Someday , I am going to pay for my laziness 😄
I'm going to give this easy lazy Co2 method a go, I will buy the stuff tomorrow. I wish you weren't so far away I have lots of plecos big enough and ready to rehome, and I know you'd love them and take good care of them!
It will last for 2 or max 3 weeks. Then you have to change the bottel mixture. Also you can add gelatine to the sugar and pour the mixture and let it set , then in the top of the bottel add the yeast , sugar water mixture. This will increase the time , as the jelly mixture which has sugar in it will be consumed by the yeast slowly, and will last long.😊
great stuff brother. rookie mistake not putting the 2nd bottle on to act as a "washing filter". come on bra, ya got this. no skipping steps. even the simple ones. oh and btw, try adding gelatin to your sugar mix to act as a reactive "base" to make the yeast live longer, thus giving you a longer reaction period. Some say almost 6 months if you can get the mix ratios correct.
Do you just run the first bottle through another bottle filled with water and then into the tank??? And say for this particular 1 liter reactor how much gelatin would you add???
It's kind of essential to be able to control the amount on CO2 you're putting in the tank since most of us also have fish or invertebrates there that need to breath O2...
Thanks for showing us your method! I noticed you don't use drop checkers on your tanks, is that because you use the bubble counters? Also, I vote yes for a low tech betta tank and a dutch style tank! 😊
Wow! I love your idea. Thank you so much for sharing this! One question, do you know or have a video on how to use multiple tanks for one canister filter? I was thinking of using a 107 fluval and just two tanks. I'm trying to be conventional but I haven't had any new ideas.
Love the vid, I have a quick question tho, I used a 2 liter bottle with a two way airline separator with an airstone on both ends so I could supply two tanks at once, it's been one hour and no bubble count action yet! How long does it typically take to get started on average? And should I break it down and just use the one airline to like you did instead??? Thanks In advance! 🙏💯🔱
How do I tern it off during the night because I heard your ment to, I do not have a valve should I just pinch it closed with something but then I am worried it will explode.
Hey Ryo! Everything is looking great! I was wondering, I remember when you added a drain outside of your studio room and ran it around the house to the drain outside. Then you just drained straight into from your tank. Is that an option in your fish room, instead of using the large container and trolly you built? Just wondering. Have a great day!
tried but mayb takes awhile for the other half empty (1.5 litre bottle) to fill up .only emits CO2 when i shake the bottle will buying a bubble counter and difusser help?
man im spend 140.00 for neo co2 my mistake level and warm at the eng nothing wan refill back cost 80.00 and im throw away went i know you method is work and super cheap..
Sorry I’m not too sure about that and what the differences are. Maybe you could try it out. Just note, it can take up to a day or longer for co2 to start coming out depending on temp and how much you shake the bottle
As said by Ryo, 2 bottle setups are better than this one setup. Now sugar and yeast will be introduced into your aquarium... Depending on the yeast if I remember chemical study correctly alcohol can be created.... Fish and plant life don't like alcohol to live in I guess.... The second bottle will act as a filter for the cow system so only clean co2 will enter your aquarium.

How much gelatin should be used for 1 gram of yeast?
@@vforvictory888 What you want is to get the sugar solution sort of solid, not too solid. Like a jello pudding. MJ Aquascaping has a good recipe.

you dont have any valve, does that mean you dont turn your co2 off?
Great DIY Ryo! Do you have an update on how the system is doing now?
Yup, I temporarily stopped using this as for me, it’s too troublesome to keep refilling. It lasted 1 full month though
I just set up my own DIY CO2. It’s really easy to do. I used an air stone but the bubbles are too big, so a diffuser is a better way to go.

How long did you have to wait before bubbles start to come out of the diffuser?

Hi Ryo
Your videos are great. You inspired me to try diy co2
But i have a question.
What do you do at night with the co2? Is two much bad for fish?
For me i jst disconnected the supply..
Does it matter if you use instant dry yeast or active dry yeast?
Sorry I’m not too sure about that and what the differences are. Maybe you could try it out. Just note, it can take up to a day or longer for co2 to start coming out depending on temp and how much you shake the bottle
Will this carryover the ethanol fumes to aquarium along with CO2 ?
No

I've done a few updates on this tank in already. Tomorrows video will also have an update of this tank.
1 ltr water, 1kg sugar and 1 packet of yeast can work for 4 bottles at 25%-30% capacity of each bottle
