    I just bought a CO2 system 2 days ago and this video provides all the info I was searching for. I'm still in the agitated phase of determining the difusor placement and the bubbles per second, nearly driving insane. The checker is dark green. It's a heavily planted 100l (26.4 gallons) aquarium, currently at 3, 4 bps. Subscribed!
    Thank you very much for this video! Regards from Portugal!

    I like how on the "DIY" side you chose the most basic system sold from a company - a bottle with a hole in it. There are much better choices which include a regulator, solenoid, needle valve and bubble counter. You add cheap citric acid and sodium bicarbonate which lasts a month or more

    For those CO2 DIY system that have like citric acid and baking soda reacting with each other. just use ice instead of water, the reaction only starts when the water is in its liquid form and it gives you more time. drawback it takes roughly 4x as long for the pressure to build up

    Hi. It is important how you dissolve co2.I use a ph controller.With an twinstar acrylic diffuser, it takes 70 minutes to saturate the tank.With co2 art inline diffuser it takes 27 minutes.With the jbl inline diffuser it takes 23 minutes.with co2 reactor (profiplants) it only takes 11 minutes to saturate the tank and no unwanted bubbles in the tank from co2.So, with the right choice of diffuser, I save a lot of co2.

      Although the inline itself will do a great job of dispersing the CO2 throughout the tank, I would place the outflow on the opposite end of where the plants are (so the water flows towards the plants.)

    • @BucePlant
      @BucePlant  3 місяці тому

      Yes, you can! With most pressurized systems, you can adjust the amount of CO2 being injected into the tank.

  • @chag6349
    @chag6349 Рік тому +1

    For diy systems, would creating more flow on the surface of the water to regulate the amount of co2 be a good idea to cancel the overproduction of co2?

    • @BucePlant
      @BucePlant  Рік тому

      That's a great question! Increasing surface agitation will not be the most effective. Increasing surface gas exchange and raising oxygen levels will not reduce the amount of CO2 because oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the water are not mutually exclusive. One thing you can try is to raise your diffuser closer to the surface, what this does is that the CO2 bubbles spend less time in the water column and therefore not diffuse as efficiently.

    I just bought a few plants from your website and I can't wait to get them. I'm totally new to all this, but I'm about 9 days into my first planted aquarium. I know I want more control than a DIY C02 system has to offer, but for me, the only reason a pressurized C02 systems is intimidating, is because there really is no all in one unit. I feel like I have to piece a system together with our really knowing what I'm buying. I have access to cheap soda stream refills, so that seems like the logical route for me, I just don't know what else I need to buy to make sure everything will work together.

    question for you if you dont mind me asking so i start co2 1 to 2 hours before lights come on. some people have said im looking at 30 ppm or close before the lights come on. so for the rest of day while the lights are on so is my co2,well...co2 off one hour before lights go off. still whats to prevent that 30 ppm concentration from going higher throughout the day?

    • @BucePlant
      @BucePlant  6 місяців тому

      Your plants consuming the CO2 throughout the day is what would keep it below 30ppm! If it still gets too high, you will need to turn down the rate of CO2 injection on your regulator, then monitor the levels over the next couple days to see if the adjustment was enough.

      Hi, thanks for the reply.
      At 3:50 in your video you said, "discus and bettas are going to be very sensitive to high levels of co2." I am just wondering in what way are bettas "sensitive to high levels of co2."
      I have read online that inefficient co2 diffusers could create a layer of co2 that collects at the top of the tank, which is obviously bad for a fish that gulps air.
