It is excellent practice to eat fish regularly. But it is questionable whether you are getting enough omega 3s from eating fish alone, plus there are also toxins present in the fish itself, especially if they are farmed (e,g. antibiotics, to mention one). The issue with cod liver oil is that it’s typically lower in epa/dha. Sacrificing these for additional vitamin A and D seems like a pretty silly recommendation, considering the low price point of these vitamins in supplement form. Just like krill oil, I believe cod liver oil is just companies trying to “reinvent the wheel” to sell you a more expensive product. (Which both happen to contain less of what you benefit from in an omega 3 supplement)

Anything else I should look for? Edit: I just found this - All of our products are in a premium triglyceride form. For more information on the difference between a triglyceride and ethyl ester, check out the video below.
do you know anything about phospholipid form (with krill oil)? i had been buying fish oil in triglyceride form but switched to krill and read the one with phospholipids are more absorbable than triglyceride form. nothing mentioned about ethyl ester.
@@dawn1913I’ve made the switch to krill oil (Sports Research) . I’ve found that I don’t get any brain fog as opposed to fish oil. And by the way I used quality fish oil brands (Dr.Tobias,NOW,Solgar, etc.) Would like to try the Nordic brand, but cost is prohibitive. Anyway, no brain fog with krill oil. I can only speculate that the fish oil omegas go rancid very quickly. And yes , from what I have researched, the phospholipids not only help in absorption, but in preventing rancidity as it also contains astaxanthin. You might also look into a tin of quality sardines. They’re also a very good source of calcium. Not only high in omegas, but high in quality bioavailable protein. It’s best NOT to get the skinless and boneless ones. As for the ethyl esters , my understanding is that they are ‘synthetically derived’ , and I’m not comfortable with that process. You can do an online search regarding the subject, though it seems to indicate that the triglyceride form is more bioavailable than the ethyl ester form. An interesting tidbit …. recently a class action lawsuit against various fish oil companies asserts that during the manufacturing process the final product of omega-3’s contain no EPA or DHA, but rather a product that does not EXIST in nature. If you are interested, you can just do a search for ‘fish oil class action lawsuit’. I don’t know how true this is and will be doing my own research on the topic. It’s just curious to me that I suffered from brain fog when on fish oil.
Krill is an ecological corner stone of the ocean. If we start exploiting and extracting krill on an industrial scale then the knock effect will be hugely destructive to the health of the sea.

Can we get an updated videos on fish oil? What about anchovies, sardines, mackerel, and herring? Thats the fish that is used in my Nordic naturals omega 3 supplement can you help? Maybe talk about the different brands and best brands
Eating 2x a week fatty fish is excellent practice, but it isn’t going to be enough to ensure optimal intake of omega 3 fatty acids. There is a lot of other omega chain fatty acids from other sources in our diets which yield an imbalance of the ratio of omega 3 versus omega 6 for instance. A high quality fish oil supplement is a must in my opinion. There are plenty of studies which support their benefits. When it comes to fish oil supplements, cheap is not going to cut it, but expensive doesn’t necessarily mean good either. It is minefield, and research is needed.
I was taking 4 grams of DHA/EPA of fish oil from a great source, ran out, and bought ON at Xsport containing ethylcellulose and some other stuff with only 300 mg EPA/DHA per serving. Story of my life. Bad fish oil supplements can ruin a whole bunch.
Thanks for introducing me to these considerations. I'm new to omega 3's and I did not know this. I've started looking at TG forms and totox values, omega 6s, etc from now. Thankfully my supplements are all compliant.
Look into Dr. Barry Sears, PhD. He's been into fish oil for over 20 years. He's the OG. IFOS 5-Star fish oils at the very least. Dr. Sears has his own brand, but it is expensive. It might be the best, too, but still expensive. OmaPure is less than half (when you buy 3 bottles) and still IFOS 5-Star approved. There may be others as well -- look up the list of IFOS 5-Star fish oils and pick the one you want.
This definitely important to me I take 6g of fish oil a day for heart health, and protein synthesis increase, so if my fish oil is not good it would definitely affect my health
I generally believe what you have to offer about brands, etc. However, I want you to know that you can talk all day long, but if I can NEVER find the type of products you describe, what you have to offer is not helping me in any way - just wasting my time searching for a needle in a haystack. For 3 plus weeks now I have been trying to order fish oil/EPA/DHA; cannot find the strong points you consider important, but can find all the things I will not ever buy again. Since I cannot make my own, any suggestions to overcome all the wrong things the sellers are doing t the buyers? Thanks.
Doesn’t help if you don’t say the rate and difference of oxidation, it could be such a small difference that it doesn’t matter, especially compared to pricing…

Sometimes I run out and it might take a bit before I get more and I can definitely tell as the skin issue comes back full force. Right now I use Nature's Bounty from Costco but maybe next time I buy more I'll explore another brand/version.
I use cod liver oil from Carlson, if you know a better brand please let me know……having some stomach issues with this one but will try it out for next week to 2 weeks to see if it gets better.
Try to keep fish oil supplements in your refrigerator with a temp lower than 5° C. This will not let them oxidize especially in summer days , mine fish oil got oxidized due to direct light and high room temp which is above 35° C during the day in summers.
There is so much controversy in fish oil pills. I'm going to eat a can of sardines packed in evo every day or every other day. No suppliment beats real natural food. The only downside I see with natural foods is the calorie content . I like to supercharge my nutrition without all the excess calories. Eating healthy is expensive but being unhealthy is more expensive. Food does have to be treated like medicine. You truly are what you eat.

If someone has definitive research that I missed, would love to read it. Please leave the title/author citation in the comments (external links usually don't work on youtube) and I'll go check it out.
Hey what brand of krill oil do you recommend?
@@Waterboy516 Right now I'm on my second bottle of 1st Phorm Full-Mega. I take one at lunch, about 5 days a week. Unlike a lot of others I've tried, no fish burps.
@@silvermediastudio did you ask for a totox score? And can it be rancid and not give burps?
@@Waterboy516 I did ask, went through their online customer service/chat function. The two guys I conversed with were very friendly and helpful. They did not have the oxidation numbers or totox but did say they would relay the comments/questions to their manufacturing and quality control teams, such that it may be tracked and published in the next version/product improvement.
@@silvermediastudio so far I have written 6 emails to different companies asking them about totox, rancidity, triglycerides and still waiting on a response whichever one is the most transparent I will probably end up going with, I would prefer krill over fish oil because they are smaller plus their from Antarctic waters, I will let u know which One I decide on
I wouldnt touch a commercial fish oil from the store.
I don't even buy a fish oil because I don't trust the quality. I get my omega 3s from salmon, sardines and seafoods. 🤓
It is excellent practice to eat fish regularly. But it is questionable whether you are getting enough omega 3s from eating fish alone, plus there are also toxins present in the fish itself, especially if they are farmed (e,g. antibiotics, to mention one). Our waters are polluted, sadly. High quality supplements can remove these impurities and be beneficial in the long run. But, as you say, there is a lot out there and you do need to do your research. Thomas have some excellent pointers. I would not buy from mainstream supermarkets like Costco, etc that’s for sure. But I do rely on my fish oil supplement.
I eat all that and have you tried icelandic cod liver oil delicious

I’ve been looking for a video like this. Thank you
Please more informational videos like this man great video
I love these deeper dives into things because it keeps the industries more honest and over time can force them to give us better options too .
Just speaking for myself , i feel better whenever I can eat my vitamins through food , as much as I’m able to .
Having info about supplements is so important too tho because it’s become a little bit of a money grab with some of them
I Appreciate you take the time out to do vids like this
Happy holidays x
I'd love to see a full video on dog health! The new book on dog longevity, The Forever Dog, is really taking off and it amazed me how much of what is good for us is also really good for our dogs, including raw diet, supplements and fasting. Since you have long-living dogs, can you share your tricks?
Awwh, your dogs are soooo cute.
Thank You, I've been looking for a good explanation of this.
I am proud to be the 1st one...
Thanks for sharing so much!
Love the content. Would really like to know what you take personally.
So what is the one omega 3 pill I should take if only picking one?
Hi, thank you for this great video, i was taking wrong ones please update us on you top 5 fish oils to buy , Thank you !
Sad to say that "Sundays food for dogs" (1:23) is probably better for us than most of the food that's in our supermarkets. I might give it a try.
Thanks Thomas!
There is a great benefit in obtaining natural vitamin A and vitamin D. Real vitamin A is also crucial for the enabling the synthesis of bioavailable copper. Just face it: You cannot afford the really good stuff. Step it up and earn more money. Rosita 10ml every day. 130 bucks per month! The only way!
Mr DeLaure thank you for keeping an eye out for us! I love the “ nerdy” content which is why I love Dr Nadir Mir Ali - always explaining nutrition!
I only buy Andrew Lessmans Vitamins, they are pure....no binders and no fillers. They are the very best you can buy and worth every penny. You can feel the difference in the first few days of taking these. I even give them to my 2 Pit Bull Dogs.
If it’s not tested it’s no difference, The big question what about the PCB s Mercury and the Tocopherol which is used as a preservative all very bad cancer causing.
I love that you’re supporting the doggos too!, and the love you guys show them!! Will definitely check out the dog food recommendation 🐶
Thank you as always, much appreciated!!!👍😁
I would love a video on your dogs health / life style/ foods etc as you are obviously keeping them incredibly healthy and I would love to do the same for mine! :)
Here in the Philippines there are less strict labeling laws and some of the info is missing. I am getting anchovy, sardine based supplements here as well as Alaska Salmon oil.
any brands to recommend? available in shopee?
Excellent information 👌
Thank you Sir! Great information. 🙏👊
Should fish oil supplements be stored in the refrigerator?
No
You don't have to, but I do. It helps prevent oxidation and doesn't do any harm. Also, the frig is dark so it keeps it away from light as well.
Absolutly

Thanks to government public school system and the never ending invasion from the 3rd world that the left allows and lowers standards for.
I'm taking Alpha Omega (the high EPA one) in the bottle. Made from anchovy. They also have capsules. It's the highest concentration I've seen, but triglycerides aren't mentioned.
And by the way I used quality fish oil brands (Dr.Tobias,NOW,Solgar, etc.)
Would like to try the Nordic brand, but cost is prohibitive.
Your dogs look adorable! We have an Aussie who's13, love that breed.
I just started using Nordic Naturals oil and it has minimal smell and taste. It's extensively 3rd party tested and well reviewed.
Krill is an ecological corner stone of the ocean. If we start exploiting and extracting krill on an industrial scale then the knock effect will be hugely destructive to the health of the sea.
That ship has sailed. Krill oil has been on the market for years.
This was a problem for me, I really rely on fish oil for inflammation. I got an off brand from the store that I don't usually buy(usually buy NOW). Health slowly declined over months, until I ran out of them and I'm like WTF? This one thing that was holding me back.
Salmon oil for me interfered with sleeping even when taking it in the morning.
Store them immediately in the fridge once you get them , other wise the caps get spoiled due to higher temp in the room.
Good to know you are keeping inflammation under control. I have inflammatory issues with arthiritus and stomach lining. I see you rate NOW. Where do I source it in the UK please And what type of fish oil do you purchase, capsules or oil? Interesting to reading peoples experiences such as this, as well as getting information from professionals. Thanks
@@lizrigby-jones3700 use to now as it was molecularly distilled, less likely to be rancid. And made from sardines, low mercury. Recently I have gotten away from fish oil, I have cut down on the amount. It was a crutch for me in the overgrowth of bacteria was my real problem, with all its poop(toxins) they produce.
Good information but clear bottle Will also make the fish oil go bad rancid faster and deplete omega-3 content of the pill. Always buy from bottle that is not clear dark or white in color so the fish oil is not exposed to the light
JUST,,,,, TELL ME WHAT TO BUY! (Ren Hoek voice)
There is nothing about ethyl esters on my fish oil. Im in Canada and the brand is Jamieson Natural Sources, Wild Salmon & Fish Oil.
You didn't say but should we store it in the refrigerator?
Great info, thanks
Can we get an updated videos on fish oil? What about anchovies, sardines, mackerel, and herring? Thats the fish that is used in my Nordic naturals omega 3 supplement can you help? Maybe talk about the different brands and best brands
This was helpful, thanks Thomas... What about phospholipid form? Isn't that more bioavailable than triglyceride form?
Thomas, PLEASE do more videos for our dogs. We need real info bad.
Only thing is Krill Oil doesn't have much EPA & DHA. Which at this rate, 1g of EPA & 1g of DHA per day seems optimal.
Is it better to eat fatty fish 2X per week than to take fish oil (or even krill oil) supplements?
Eating 2x a week fatty fish is excellent practice, but it isn’t going to be enough to ensure optimal intake of omega 3 fatty acids. There is a lot of other omega chain fatty acids from other sources in our diets which yield an imbalance of the ratio of omega 3 versus omega 6 for instance.
A high quality fish oil supplement is a must in my opinion. There are plenty of studies which support their benefits. When it comes to fish oil supplements, cheap is not going to cut it, but expensive doesn’t necessarily mean good either. It is minefield, and research is needed.
@@gsica2097 Thank you.

Buy algae oil insted. Here in germany it`s common to use algae oil instead of fish oil...
What brands of algae oil do you recommend?
I live in Germany and I take Omega-3 Seefischöl 1000 from Doppelherz. It contains Sea fish oil 1000mg,Omega 3 fat acid 300mg,EPA 180mg, DHA 120mg.
Hello. Could you tell me from where you bought that fish oil? The first you took
@Jayden Nordic naturals
I've been buying Sports Research products. None of the bad stuff you want in your OTC vitamins.
So which fish oil do you recommend....? I'm more confused now...😮 Pick one from Costco.
This definitely important to me I take 6g of fish oil a day for heart health, and protein synthesis increase, so if my fish oil is not good it would definitely affect my health
I generally believe what you have to offer about brands, etc. However, I want you to know that you can talk all day long, but if I can NEVER find the type of products you describe, what you have to offer is not helping me in any way - just wasting my time searching for a needle in a haystack. For 3 plus weeks now I have been trying to order fish oil/EPA/DHA;
cannot find the strong points you consider important, but can find all the things I will not ever buy again. Since I cannot make my own, any suggestions to overcome all the wrong
things the sellers are doing t the buyers? Thanks.
Would like to see a video breaking down the difference of the breakdown of algae omega 3 and fish omega 3
So Krill Oil is the one to go for then? Any brands people like?
What about cod liver oil? (Liquid form)
Yess!
Yes Speak On It Good Question?😮🤔🤷 Chile
Most of it comes from farmed cod and is very toxic. Nordic Arctic cod liver oil is a good one.
Is “Møller’s Tran” (Norwegian) any good? 🤔

What took you so long to make this video about fish oils?
Should you refrigerate your fish oil?
why don’t you google it?

Love this content 💖✨TY Thomas honestly I was just wondering about what other options besides refrigerated brands are out there⭐ season's greeting
Thoughts on Vascepa?
Doesn’t help if you don’t say the rate and difference of oxidation, it could be such a small difference that it doesn’t matter, especially compared to pricing…
Keep in frig!!
THOMAS WHAT DO YOU RECCOMEND ???????
Does the fish oil that also have a mixture of flax, and borage oils fit in the same category? I noticed that it has Ethyl Esters on the label after the ingredients. It has Evening primrose oil (seed), Black currant oil(seed), borage oil(seed)..other ingredients are gelatin, glycerin, mixed natural tocophererois, anchovy, herring, mackeral and sardine.
l take 20 grams a day it is very good in Liquid oil
the dose has to be high for it to work
I have mild psoriasis...palm of one hand and at the risk of TMI...top of my butt crack...lol...really very low on my back or high on my rear...depending on how you want to think about it...but anyways...it goes away almost completely on my hand and improves about 75-80% on my.....err....back....when I take fish oil. Sometimes I run out and it might take a bit before I get more and I can definitely tell as the skin issue comes back full force. Right now I use Nature's Bounty from Costco but maybe next time I buy more I'll explore another brand/version.
Does the of liver oil still help you
I use cod liver oil from Carlson, if you know a better brand please let me know……having some stomach issues with this one but will try it out for next week to 2 weeks to see if it gets better.
Try to keep fish oil supplements in your refrigerator with a temp lower than 5° C. This will not let them oxidize especially in summer days , mine fish oil got oxidized due to direct light and high room temp which is above 35° C during the day in summers.
What cod liver oil brand do you recommend?
Thanks for sharing the dog food brand
I take Vascepa (icosapent ethyl)
There is so much controversy in fish oil pills. I'm going to eat a can of sardines packed in evo every day or every other day. No suppliment beats real natural food. The only downside I see with natural foods is the calorie content . I like to supercharge my nutrition without all the excess calories. Eating healthy is expensive but being unhealthy is more expensive. Food does have to be treated like medicine. You truly are what you eat.
I use organic Icelandic cod liver oil.
Jigsaw cod liver oil! Nordic naturals either has less than 2% dv vit d or adds linolin
What if you are allergic to fish? What do you recommend?
