How bout swapping cloak penalty for longer cloak OR decloak time (longer time to be invisible or be able to attack after decloak)
@@erner_wisal that would make the knife actually broken, I think just by removing the penalty it would make for a fun, balanced and powerful weapon

@@erner_wisal Ok lets recap the stats. Silent killer, you disguise as your victim upon backstab AND more cloak, with it’s only downside negated because you can disguise on spawn, or with the L’etranger that makes this downside an inconvenience rather than something important. Basically it leaves the stock knife obsolete but with the slight inconvenience that you can’t switch disguises very often.
Spy being about getting into people's faces and farming a bunch of trickstabs hasn't been made a thing "recently". My brother in christ, I've been doing JUST that over 10 years ago! lol
Good video, I always enjoy people treating the YER with respect, it was an incredibly fun knife back when I played this game and mindgaming random pub players on Valve servers is one of my favorite memories of TF2.
Stab an engineer, press B afterwards to switch the disguise to hold their wrench, nobody ever suspected a dang thing.
Great video! The cloak penalty is there because otherwise it is nearly always a direct upgrade to stock, but I'd still consider that an ok state to put this knife.
The penalty isn't as bad as you say: "+33% cloak drain rate" doesn't mean "1/3 less cloak duration", because if that were true, "+100% drain rate" would mean "-100% cloak duration", when it actually means "double drain rate" or "1/2 duration".
A 33% penalty means "1/4 less duration". It's an annoying stat in practice, but not as punishing as it sounds.

A few notes that are important to consider.
The YER does NOT have a completely silent stab. Instead, it just plays the butterknife noise. Players with good enough hearing may still pick up on the sound and find you.
The YER is best in payload/control points. So is normal spy, but it's increased with the YER. I use it with the Dead Ringer and Diamondback and being able to get behind your enemy, something you can't really do on CTF due to "behind the enemy" not being very clear, you can easily pull off many stabs like you mentioned, and use the dead ringer to go even further behind the enemy due to the nature of payload maps.
The Lestranger or however it's spelled is not necessary, especially with the dead ringer. I haven't needed it, even on CTF where this weapon is weakest.
I usually like to run the l'etranger with the big earner because first, infinite cloak, but also the speed buff gives a great option to either be aggressive and go for another stab on someone who would otherwise be too far away, or gtfo faster than spy left scout's mom.
The problem I have with heavy is that usually the movement speed is so slow that it feels weird to do backstabs, I also hate that it's actually kinda bad usually to stabbed the heavy because of how heavies are usually positioned near the frontline
One of the funny things I do with this weapon tho is kill an engi and sap his building then act like I'm trying to find the spy
Another problem I have which is more of a me problem is not sapping sentries out of pure greed to keep the disguise going cause it's fun to just act
I agree the slower disguises can definitely hinder you a lot when you need to make fast plays which was something I didn't cover much as a debuff in the video, another funny thing you can do when using the weapon though is when you're against a team using a whole bunch of Snipers and then going between them blending in when each Sniper turns around. The only knife I use. I don't play spy much so I just play other things when YER doesn't work. This one is the one for me.
