Rebel Assault, yes!!!! This was the first CD based game I ever owned on PC. I was also fortunate as I had the CH Flightstick Pro to play with for this game. Since for the longest time this was one of only three other games I owned on my parent's new CD based PC, I played the heck out of this. The other two I had were Sim City and Battle Chess. Believe it or not, I played this game way more than those other two!
Oh man-this game. I played it on a 1994/5 Mac Performa, and it was a bit slow and unresponsive. I could never get past the bloody probe droid cave. Impressive...most impressive for its time. All I can say is that I only hope that piloting is not as clumsy in real life-it probably is not, or we'd see many more crashes....
I remember getting "Rebel Assault" for PC back when it came out, thinking that it was going to be amazing. I was a hardcore X-Wing and Tie Fighter player at the time and I thought that LucasArts could do no wrong at that point. Then when I shoved "Rebel Assault" into my CD Rom drive, I found that I didn't like it at all. I found that it was just absolutely uncontrollable. It was just the same boring thing over and over again. While with the other games, I found level editors and was able to build a galaxy with them, this game ended up as a coaster within a week of me getting it. I don't think I played it more than a week. My roomate and I really didn't like it. The controls were super wonky. The gameplay just wasn't there. Star Wars had let us down on this one.

Fook yah! Rebel Assault! I loved this game way back in the day. It doesn’t quite hold up as a game these days, but it’s a very cool nostalgia trip.

Surprised and amazed. Going to cover it in this week's Waxing Pixels Podcast.
