Target Tune India kit FAULTY

  • My Target Tune India kit in my HW97 has damaged itself through normal use. The piston ring has been slamming into the rear of the compression cylinder forcing the pin that holds the latch rod /piston head to take all the impact of the shot cycle. This has made the pin elongate the hole in the piston and caused damage to the internals of the rifle.

Stay absolutely OEM except for the spring guide and top head. You don't need anything more.

the one had in the 77k (now in a friends 97) is still going strong after 10000+ shots. i found the TTI to be just as good as my vglide

Target Tune India - Buyer Beware! I bought a so-called tune kit for a Gamo spring air rifle. The lower spring guide was made of a polymer that turned out to be unsuitable for the intended use. It broke in half after very light use. Never again!

the central piston pin thats locks in the trigger mechanisme should be of a strong press fit in the piston head , frozen cold pinn en heated pistonhead , the pin thats failt in the vid ,seems to have done the work alone

Shouldn't the piston be hardened? Looks like its just soft steel which could be part of the problem. I bet those pins and deformed piston could have done some damage to the compression chamber, it certainly sounds like its making metal to metal contact.
Thanks for the video, I know TTI are no longer going, but i'll stay away from any second hand kits.

It looks like the shoulder of the piston ring has been slamming into the back of the compression tube which puts all the energy into the pin. So that single pin has had the job of arresting the weight of the latch rod, piston head and spring preload - no wonder that the metal deformed. I don't know about the hardening - I suspect that other guns are not hardened in this area.

I cant remember how long it is since I got this kit - maybe 4 years or so. I am glad that yours works well though - I hope I was just unlucky and my kit was a rogue one. Apparently they are no longer in business anyway.
