- In this video Todd does a 4,000 mile review on our Ford 7.3K gas truck and how we feel about it so far. He goes over the general comfort, fuel mileage, how it works to haul the truck camper, our modifications, mileage and weighing it on the scale, loaded and unloaded.

►2020 Lance 1172 - We purchased from Southland RV in Atlanta, GA - August 2022 before our 3 week trip out west. Sold it in June 2023.
►2020 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper - We got our 2020 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper in October 2021. We were contacted by a couple of subscribers (now good friends) who had theirs up for sale in Upstate New York so we headed out on an adventure. We sold our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 within one day of listing it online.
►2014 Bigfoot 10.4 Truck Camper - We got our 2014 Bigfoot 10.4 in August 2021 from RVOne near Charlotte, NC. Todd was headed to buy a brand new Bigfoot 10.4 just before we got the Lance 975 but when he got to Southland RV, it was sold. That's when we decided to go to the Lance 975. We knew at some point in the future we'd have a Bigfoot again and here it is.
►2021 Lance 975 - We got our new 2021 Lance 975 from Chattanooga Fish n Fun in Hixson, TN in August 2020. After looking at several models, we decided on the Lance 975 (Check out Brad's channel from Chattanooga Fish n Fun, he gives great, thorough overviews of some really nice boats and campers.) We sold the Lance 975 in August 2021.
►2019 Northern Lite 10-2 Truck Camper - Bought and delivered from Mountain Motors in Troy, MO on 12/2019 and sold it in 01/2020.
►2005 Northern Lite 10-2 Truck Camper - Picked up on 8/10/2019 we did major repairs, maintenance and renovations to this one and sold it in 12/2019.
2008 Bigfoot 21RB - Sold 12/2019, we went across country to purchase from a dealer in Pueblo Colorado.
►2006 Casita Spirit Deluxe - Sold 07/2018 when we bought our Bigfoot.
►2002 A-liner - Sold 05/2017 when bought our 2006 Casita Spirit Deluxe.
I decided to go with the F350 SW 6.7 Turbo Diesel to carry our 2004 Northern Lite 10-2. Just got back from our first trip from Idaho to the PacNW and back. Fully loaded, 72mph on interstate, 13.5MPG. Very impressed.
Good Morning, our 2021 Ram Dually with the 6.4 hemi gets similar mileage 13 mpg empty and 10.4 mpg hauling a Lance 851 and Towing a Ranger RT178 bass boat, safe travels 👍🏼🇺🇸

Another straight forward report from Todd and Carla.
Good review. I have the same truck with a 9.6 SE and a 4:30 rear axle ratio. We noticed speeds over 100kms/hr really impact the mileage. On our last trip through the mountains from Calgary Alberta to the BC Sunshine Coast we averaged 20.9 liters/100kms. Again we kept it just under 100kms/hr. Lots of twisty two lane highway and one very lucky deer along the way. Truck handles the tight corners without having to slow down anymore than I would with the truck empty. Love the combo!
We have a 7.3 gasser and love it. I do understand your thoughts on a change and comparison to a diesel. I miss the diesel but I do like the 7.3 for the power and cargo capacity
I have the same truck, 3.73 gears...FX4...and its refreshing to finally see a dually Zilla owner tell the truth about the MPG... I virtually get the exact same MPG empty and also hauling our Host Cascade (I have not weighed our set up as of yet...I probably wont, just to live free...lol)..its 12.5-13.5 HMY Empty in "eco" and its 8-9.5 fully loaded in Tow Haul mode.

Congrats on your Godzilla.. I came off 2020 F350 DRW 6.7 Lariat which I traded it in for 2023 Ram 3500 DRW Crew Cab Limited HO 6.7 Night Edition 4.1. I wish I had 3.73, but other than that, I am extremely happy with my new Ram. I was waiting for F450 Limited which will not have TPMS and Auto leveling. So, for me, Ram is more modern, quiet, less noise on AC, and turbo.. I am getting about 16 mpg empty when driving around 70-75 mpg
Hi Todd, I do bought a F-350 Lariat 2022 (Race Red Color) single wheel with 7.3L Godzilla. (Payload is 4020lbs). I haul a Northern Lite 8-11 2022. Very satisfied with that rig. Nice to see you explain all the satisfaction you have with your truck. Where did you get your 7.3L Godzilla emblem?

My 2022 SRW F350 7.3 Godzilla 4x4 long bed can easily do 16mpg highway if I stay under 75. Like 70-72. If I push over 80 sustained I drop to 14.5. His dually numbers make sense to me.
The Godzilla is every bit a great motor.
My buddy just blew up his F250 diesel at 306,000 miles. It needs a CP4 module?? Estimated parts and service topped $12k so he traded it. For a Godzilla F350 like mine! I let him borrow my truck to haul his heavy trailer with his skid steer on it and a mowing tractor. His haul was on flat ground. He said he was 100% sold on that engine.
Great report, Ty! Sounds like the truck/camper combo is a really good match. I sold my Ram diesel dually and went with the gas hemi and was a fine truck but I never got used to the gasser's high RPMs. I know that the engine had plenty of power, was designed to operate at those higher RPMs and reliability would be fine, just didn't like the sound (dumb reason, I know). I don't want to drop another 12k on a diesel upgrade so will be checking out the 7.3 Ford. Appreciate the info your channel provides.
Too funny! I'd weighed our 2017 Adventurer 910DB fully loaded this summer, and promptly started shopping for a DRW to replace our 2018 F350 XL SCLB 6.2L gasser. Just traded it for a (black) 2022 F350 CCLB 7.3L DRW this last week, and pulled up your channel to brush up on changing out the dually brackets on the jacks, only to find that you have essentially the same truck! Guess we made the right choice 🤣

A 450 is a good size truck that can Handel the weight of a big truck camper and pull your boat too .

BTW, my 2019 RAM 35000 (disel) + Lance 975 gets approx 13-14 MPG. Without the 975 gets 18 - 19 MPG.
With current gas/ fuel prices the gas truck is still cheaper on fuel without counting def. Not to mention significantly cheaper on repairs and maintenance.

I bought my 2022 Dodge and like the NL paid top dollar. I should have waited because prices have come down some. So my Limited Dodge sits in my garage with 1,600 miles on it. So I either buy another camper than I can use some time or sell the Dodge. I truly love the truck for it drives so much better than my Avalon. Love the Diesel break but I'm told to drive this truck hard. I sold a 2006 Ford King Ranch dually with 22 thousand miles on it last year. I miss driving slowly and didn't drive it hard because of the reputation the 6.0 has. The original owner had this 2006 Ford beefed up and everyone wanted to buy it. However it scared me so off it went after 10 years of ownership. NOW I'm seem to be back in the same boat. I have a truck I'm afraid to drive. Anyway, rambling on. After you break it in your mpg will go up I used to have one.

Where did you get those door 7.3L Godzilla emblem at?
I have the 2023 supercab DRW model. I agree, power is awesome and plenty, even up here in the Rockies. However, the 2023 model has a new braking and steering system and it is terrible : steering is very hard, when stopped, it is a work out. No way I turn this wheel one handed without a lot of work. And then braking is way soft. I brought it in to the shop and was informed that this was the desired behavior by Ford.
Also, the doors of the supercab are not good either. 50% of the time, the sensors will say that they are not closed properly, so I have to stop, step out, reclose the doors and generally it's okay.
The seats are comfortable yes, and the simple analog dashboard is much better than Chevy's new all digital.
Humm I haven't heard that about the new 2023 models. I may have to go drive one just to see how it feels. I love the way my truck steers and stop. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching!
If you do, I would love to hear what your experience is. Somehow, I did not have a good feeling from the dealership and am not sure I trust their conclusion. That's also because the steering is just no fun. @@RunawayRoses
I've read the opposite that the 2023s steering is lighter than the 22s. I highly doubt you had to struggle to turn the wheel. If you did there is something wrong with the truck.
@@wakeupamerica2024 That's my though, that there is something wrong. But the dealership said it was exactly per the specs. HOwever, I am going to go to a different dealership and have them check it out again. It does seem insane to me that Ford would want this experience for drivers.
Interesting comment about the hard steering on the 2023. I just bought my special order 2024 F350 DRW with camper package. This is my first 1 ton and I was comparing the steering to my 2019 F150. I thought the hard steering was normal on the 1 ton. The difference is significant that I have to use two hands on some sharp turns. Backing up requires two hands as well.
Great info as usual guys I went to the Hershey RV show a couple of days ago and looked at the 10-2 DB as well as the smaller northern lites with wet baths. Really loved the 10-2. The dealer told me a Dually wasn’t necessary but I didn’t believe that after watching your videos and others. I was surprised how much nicer the NL seemed compared with most of the lances (The 1172 and 975 looked Nice though; I know you had both). The new Cirrus 920 was really nice too. That one’s super Heavy but it had the best shower by far … Carla will love it when you guys get to see it 😊. One question: would you ever consider a one ton SRW with the smaller 8-11 NL? Thank you again for the great information it’s really helping as I finally start shopping a little for a truck camper.
PS The NL 811 is 2800 pounds so 500 pounds less than yours. I also saw the palominos I like the one with the fold out patio I think my dogs would love that but I didn’t like the bathroom
I know that plenty of people do have SRW trucks with 8-11 NL's. That would all depend on the truck and it's payload capacity. I would recommend a 3500 or F350 that has the upper overload springs. Thanks for watching!
Another informative video! We are headed on our 2nd and longest trip ( western Pennsylvania to Yellowstone &Grand Tetons) next week in our 8-11 on our 2019 f350 SRW diesel and like you said probably staying off scales would be better for myself but did go over last trip and realized I needed to to go on a diet just a bit ( too much stuff obviously) , but I will get there even though it drove and ride was great ! Always a pleasure watching your content!

Wish I knew the secret for putting the camper on our truck. It literally takes my wife and I an a solid :45 min to get it lined up without issue. Much more of a pain in the A## than hooking up our Grand Design Solitude fifth wheel. 🤨🤨
I agree it can be a real pain sometimes. I get very picky about getting it perfect so it can take some time for me as well. I've never hooked up a fifth wheel but I know I can hook up a travel trailer in just a few minutes. That is the worst part of a truck camper in my opinion but it is offset by many other positives that I love about them. Thanks for watching!
One thing that I did was take my truck and northern lite to the body shop and had the paint a bright green line dead center on the bottom outside edges on the camper and put matching lines in the truck bed. It cost $125.00 , but now we can load our 10-2 in about 5 minutes
That is sad as that is your 1st Ford truck.
With fuel mileage so much better with diesel 2-3 times better than the gas motor and spent a lot of time on the road and over the life time of the truck you might save enough fuel to make back your cash you spent on the diesel and you have to know that diesel will out last that gasser 2-3 times longer and with RPM’s at half of the gas truck my 5.9 cummins with 3.73 I turn 2000 RPM’ at 70 mph and when get up north they have lower speed limits my rpm’s go down and fuel mileage goes up too. I don’t know why they don’t offer a 8.2 that would pull better and with a longer stroke more low end power. That’s a nice looking ride don’t care for anything but white paint just say a lot cleaner or they look better when a little dirty that black is so hot and have was it every day or so .
My Godzilla with 4.30s turns 2000rpm at 70. Diesel mileage is not 2-3 times what gas engines get. That would mean a diesel would be getting almost 30mpg towing the same trailer as me if I am getting 9.5mpg.
@@wakeupamerica2024the reality of it is it all washes out in the end. Diesel is running a average of $ 1.00 more a gallon than gasoline is rite now. We have a 2023 ram 4500 4x4 crew cab and with our 10-2 on the truck we get about 12.4 mpg but we are paying a average of $ 4.59 a gallon for Diesel verses $ 3.49 a gallon for gas. Also once you pay the extra cost to service a Diesel and the cost of d.e.f. the cost is almost the same.
@@pedalingthru2719 Modern diesels are not reliable. The emissions systems on them are trash and the Cummins has its own problems just like the Powerstroke has the CP4, leaky oil pans, DEF system issues. No one has the courage to own a modern diesel outside of warranty anymore because they can't afford to fix them. One fuel system issue and it can cost you $10k out of pocket.
bs statements in original comment... mpg will be much closer together. not 2-3 times better?! come on. along with that reality check: if you actually do some math, not gonna "save" anything till you get past 200k miles. diesel costs so much more per gallon and oil + filter changes are $$$ compared to a gasser.
Not a chance you make that money back. With current fuel prices the gas truck is still cheaper to drive. Without including def cost, and significantly higher maintenance cost.
I used to have a 1 ton gas. After all said and done, I spent 90% of my time having to justify driving a gas one ton. I feel like you’re having to do the same on this channel. For goodness sakes if you’re gonna haul consistently and full time save yourself the hassle and just get a diesel.
