    I made a 4 ft square floating 4inch PVC pipe, put a chicken wire cage on it with roadkill in it. Maggots fall from it into water, feeding the little fish

    Hi, I am in Brazil and have stocked a pond with largemouth. It´s came great, almost 3 years so far. Here we don´t have Blue Gill, but I´m growing Pumpkin Seed to stock the pond. Is it ok/fine as Blue Gill? Any big difference/concern? Thank you.

    I have a pond I dug approx. 15 years ago. I stocked it with bluegill minnows and 20 big mouth Bass , well I never fished it or fed in all these years. Yesterday I decided to see if any fish were still alive, I caught bass one after the other, all were about the same size and very skinny, no bluegill to be found. What can I do to correct my ignorance? I could really use your help and advice?
    Also the pond has a lot of surface algae, I tried Pond Clear' didn't help at all, at $40.00 a gal. I expected better results, any advice on controlling and clearing the water? Thank you so much..

    I'm doing a three acer lake about 10 to 12 feet deep I will have a aerator solar system and also some vegetation and structures ...it's a trophy Bass Lake... How many bluegill should I stock for feed for the bass should I use shiners or brim.. should I get a few algae carp?

    • @aquaticcontrol
      @aquaticcontrol  3 роки тому +3

      For a trophy bass fishery, you need to stock around 2,000 Bluegill and 500 Redear per acre. You will need mostly Fathead Minnows along with the Bluegill and Redear to start. A small portion of Golden Shiners is also an option. If you are asking about Grass Carp specifically, they mainly eat submerged vegetation and typically do not touch algae. We would avoid stocking Grass Carp until you have a vegetation issue...and even then, we would recommend a herbicide spot treatment before stocking Grass Carp. Thank you for commenting and watching our videos!

      We would recommend our AC Trophy Pond feed for Bluegill. The contents are largely based on the diet needs for Bluegill. It is great for most species that will eat pelleted food but is largely based around Bluegill diets. The number of bags required for a 25-acre lake is going to be different for every lake. To start we typically recommend 1 fish feeder for every 3 acres of water. So you could have up to 8 feeders running on a lake that size, but you certainly don’t have to use that many to see a benefit to supplemental feed. Ultimately, you will want to let the fish tell you how much food they will eat. If the lake is Bluegill deficient you would go through less feed than a lake that is Bluegill dominant. Our Valparaiso, Indiana office will have AC Trophy Pond Feed throughout the year if you are looking to purchase. This is a hard forum to really get into the details of a custom feed program for your water body. If you would like, give us a call and we would be happy to walk you through a proper feeding program. Our number is 800-753-5253.

    Is it possible to add more bluegill to a pond that’s been there for 10 years without all the bluegill being eaten? I’ve noticed a decline in the amount bass and bluegill in my pond over the years. It’s about a 1.5 acre pond and I’ve tried feeding the pond before but they didn’t want any and it created algae. Is there a way to train them to eat pellets? Any suggestions?

    • @aquaticcontrol
      @aquaticcontrol  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, we stock 3-4” or 3-5” Bluegill regularly in existing ponds and have good success with it, but it has to be paired with bass harvest. If you are hand feeding, make sure you are feeding at the same time every day and be consistent with it. If you are doing that and they still don’t seem interested after a little while then you likely don’t have a high number of Bluegill. When the pond has a lower Bluegill population there is very little competition for food. They don’t need that supplemental food. When you have a balanced population of Bluegill there is more competition and the supplemental food becomes easier than looking for the natural food in the pond and you end up with more Bluegill eating the feed. Thanks for the question!

    • @ethanguidry312

      @@aquaticcontrol that makes sense! Thanks for the reply, I am most likely going to add about 2,000 more blue gill that are not babies but still very young. Still haven’t decided about feeding them or not. I’m worried that if I feed them, anytime I walk up to the pond to start fishing, there’s going to be a swarm of bluegill in front of me eating whatever touches the water. It turns into “catching” not “fishing” at that point. Is there a way for preventing that kind of thing from happening? Thanks for the help!

    I have a little less than an acre of a pond, there are fathead minnows, green sunfish, and bullheads that have been in there for 8+ years do I need to stock more if I want to put bass in the pond?

    • @aquaticcontrol
      @aquaticcontrol  2 роки тому

      Typically Green Sunfish and Bullheads are going to make Largemouth Bass management pretty tricky. We would typically renovate the pond and start over. If that is not an option, we would recommend harvesting as many Bullheads as you can and stock some Bluegill at the same time you stock the Largemouth Bass.

    How do you get the fish to begin eating the pellets and consolidating at feed source?

    • @aquaticcontrol
      @aquaticcontrol  Рік тому

      If you have a feeder, start out slow and they should eventually figure out. They will eventually associate the sound of the feeder going off with the food source. If you are hand feeding you’ll want to be as consistent as possible on the time of day that you feed and the area that you feed. Water temp will play a role too, if you are north and water temps have not warmed up then you’ll want to wait before starting. If there is already enough natural food in the system and the Bluegill (or whatever species you are hoping to feed, remember not all species will feed train) population is fairly low, then they don’t really need the feed and won’t eat much of it.
