    hello! nice pond! what aerator do you guys use for your diffusers? do the geothermal coils really work?

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  2 роки тому

      Thank you! We have a Sweetwater 3/4 hp compressor with three hoses/diffusers. We bought it through JonesFish.com
      The geothermal coils are part of our furnace system for the house, and yes they work great!

  • @tacamo

    Did I miss it (I watched all the videos), or did you put in an overflow drain pipe or a permanent siphon drain to keep the water level constant once the pond fills? If you used either, what size pipe did you use? Also, did you install a spillway at one or both ends of the damn? Thanks!

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  Рік тому +2

      Kudos to you for watching all the videos! The lake has a 6" pvc pipe that goes horizontally through the dam and drains into the creek. It was there when we started the project, so it never occurred to me to mention it.

    How often does a lake/pond need to be dredged? Im in the process of building a pond and am worried about sediment filling it up. Great vdeos by the way. Very helpful!

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  3 місяці тому +1

      It depends a lot on a few factors. Like whether or not your pond is near trees that dump leaves in it every year. Or if you have aerators that add oxygen to the water, which helps break down waste. But in general, about every 30-50 years it needs drained and dredged. Good luck with your build!

    • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists
      @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists 2 місяці тому

      Ultimately it depends on how well designed the lake is. The best lakes never need to be dredged. When you consider the cost of dredging a lake is very often more than the initial construction cost because wet muck is much slower to remove.

    I'm curious about the bubblers and the geothermal coils in there. Do you cover any detail of those in your videos?

    • @CityBillyAdventures
      @CityBillyAdventures  9 місяців тому

      No not really. What do you want to know?

    • @mrpush2532
      @mrpush2532 9 місяців тому +3

      @@CityBillyAdventuresHI, yes what type of geothermal system, how many btu it generates, etc?
      Also, installing bubblers in an "old lake" can be very detrimental to the water quality and kill a lot of fish. It stirs up too much sulfer based anaerobic byproduct from the sludge.
      Wondering what type bubblers you are using used and if you saw any issues?.
      Read stories of folks killing nearly all fish after installing a bubbler or circulator.
      I have a similar situation w an acre lake that's 70 years old.
      Also wanted to mention that there are pond cleanup services where they scuba dive and pump out all the sludge from the "pit".
      They call the pit the most important place to remove the sediments from as it generates the most nasty anaerobic compounds.
      You didn't deluge your pit. (The deepest part of pond where the thickest sediments are).
      I have about 3' in my pit and 18" is most other places. Not bad for a 70 year old pond. But alas, I need to do some cleanup at this point and gathering info.

    How many acres is your lake?

  • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists
    @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists 2 місяці тому

    The pond is fine for fishing, but it will not be suitable for swimming after the first several years due to the build up of anaerobic sediments. This does not apply to much deeper ponds where the swimmers never get close to the muck. If the muck stinks, it's anaerobic, which harbors human pathogens. Be safe, have fun!
