In all seriousness you cant take them too seriously. I was so stressed and so determined to get an A1 in one subject that I had a panic attack during the exam and left without answering a single question. Ended up doing a degree in that very subject. People doing their leaving make themselves sick and it's just not right...
I am glad you found your way through. I dropped out, did a correspondence year while working, did a final year. I had a gap in my university too, but ended up with a 1st class honors degree. It doesn't have to be right first time, you just have to get there.
I gave French grinds to Irish students preparing for Junior and leaving certs. It's not only way too impactful, it's also complete garbage (at least the language tests). It's basically testing how well you can learn full paragraphs by heart. They all got suddenly better when I taught them how French works instead of feeding them pre made answers about their family or what is their career plan.
They used to have, possibly still do, signs on the back of buses in Dublin urging stressed out students to call the Samaritans. What does that say about the system?

In the USA same here. the last years Exmas. you have passed in order to graduation. so much pressure. i don't how much it change, now. when I was in High School back in 2003 and in my state. you take the HASPs/(HSPT) Exams in your 11th grade ( mostly your 3 year in High school, those who go by grades) then if you didn't passed, you have until end of your very last year to take retest. 12th grade (4 th year in High School). If or all any subjects. you didn't pass or didn't make the scores for that subject. you need too. all over again. but if you fail again. then you either. have choose to retake your last year of High School all over again or you just get paper said you made through all 12-13 years of school. only downside to that, you don't walk in your graduation, with your class. that's what happen to one my friends. but some colleges here (at that time) Will allow you, still take a replacement test to get in or arrange you go retake the HASP/HSPTs exams.
Did my leaving cert 4 years ago, won't determine your life lads so don't worry about it. Did shite in mine and have the best job I could have ever wanted, video editor and videographer, get paid to travel the world and film/edit events and didn't go to college

This is the best video ever that you have ever done. And my parents have said if u fail you fail and there's nothing you can do about it but try your best
Hahahha! Nice one guys 👌👏👍 Here's an idea for your next video if you haven't done this already: Addiction to technology and how it created, 1. anxiety issues in people 2. makes people behave dumb 3. and get angry easily when they don't have access to technology due to battery down or power shutdown issues.
Exams really aren't important anymore actually. Most of the higher paying jobs require skills like programming, speaking multiple languages (that schools are crap at teaching) or require a high level of experience that can only be acquired over time. Not going to university was the best choice I ever made. Most people just build debt, ruin their health from drinking WAY too much, end up not using their degree at all and in the same basic jobs as if they'd not gone. I spent 3 years working instead in a full time office job that I got after being in an apprentice for 3 weeks. Also worked a lot of weekends for cash by offering my help to multiple local small shops whenever they needed it. Most people are lazy and just do whatever everyone else is doing then wonder why they don't progress. Working your ass off and investing as much as possible while you don't have kids is key to creating long term wealth. I started with nothing in savings leaving school but now I'm in the top 80% of my age bracket based on my savings. If I keep this up I'll be able to retire by age 35 in a nice house with a holiday home abroad as well.
As someone who passed exams with flying colors and was top 13% of 500 in my graduating class, I wish I had taken my parents' money set aside for college and put a down payment on a place to live, and gotten certified as a legal assistant (and then WORKED my way up to paralegal with tuition reimbursement thru my employer). Instead, I blew it on out-of-state tuition for a degree I was never gonna use. Different strokes, so don't be ashamed. I also enjoyed my time as a police dispatcher, which came with a pension had I stayed long enough.
I show this one to my students whenever the exam session approaches and their level of anxiety hits the roof :) Exams are not important.. if you fail you fail, you can always repeat.
In my class there was a clear pattern. The nerds who worked hard all year and got straight A+s on everything throughout the semesters were so burnt out by the end that most of them did poorly compared to their usual grades. The most diligent peeps were getting average grades. Meanwhile, those who had slacked off had plenty of energy and did well. Some students even intentionally didn't exert themselves much throughout the year because they were saving their energy for the exams, then at the end of the year they buckled down and put ALL their effort into their exam projects. 200 IQ move right there. All these "lazy" students who usually got low-average grades ran away with all the A+s at the exams. Basically, the exams had absolutely zero reflection on any student's work ethic in general.....
