      There is no doubt in my mind that Kate wrote wuthering heights after watching this great 1970's version.
      This is it, right there, the one who sealed the deal on writing the song. She wrote it in 1977 movie was very popular in early 70's and as you guys said this is the best version that truly leave major impact at the end due to the main actors. Legendary status.

    • @suzannemoogan9675
      @suzannemoogan9675 6 років тому +17

      Your right there because it never existed.
      Emily never wrote a love story.
      Wuthering Heights wasn't a romantic novel.
      Emily's novel was a gothic story of obsession,revenge and redemption.
      As wonderful , as Timothy Dalton is ,due to his intense performance, he was far too pretty looking to ever portray Heathcliff,
      he didn't come with green eyes.
      If you want the most accurate version, watch the BBC's 1977 adaptation dramatised by the Irish playwright
      Hugh Leonard who wrote the best selling Broadway play Da .
      His version of Wuthering Heights is more or less word to word as the novel and the cast are outstanding, especially Ken Hutchison, who was everything that Emily had created and even far more intense a performer than Dalton, if that's possible.

      Suzanne Moogan The 1978 version was the one I think I am going to like best because it is one of the few that actually incorporate the whole book into it and actually get the accents down right and shows how wild Heathcliff and Kathy were when they were children. They were not so posh. Not like they are here.

    This was close to the first time Dalton was considered for the Bond role. Dalton would have been about 25. He was correct about being too young to play the part, unless the idea of a Bond backstory was the film he would be cast in (which was a possibility being considered). I thought he was the right age (about 40) for 'The Living Daylights'. Old enough to make it believable that he was an experienced and reasonably cynical Bond. I would have loved to have seen at least one more appearance by him as Bond, but at least we have the two he did get to make.

    • @LexingtonDeville984
      @LexingtonDeville984 2 роки тому +2

      He turned down the role three times - The first time was when he thought himself two young to do On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the second was For Your Eyes Only when he didn’t like the direction that the Moore era was going, and the third was Living Daylights. He got the role because Pierce Brosnan’s contract to Remington Steele was renewed at the 11th hour.

I hadn't read the book, didn't know what to expect and was mesmerized by the story and haunting main theme of the soundtrack. When I did read the book, I was actually disappointed it continued on after Cathy's death through another generation.

    wow. I never even knew about this version. Heathcliff and Isabella are *spot on* Cathy is - well, the actress is very good, and givesthe character a lot of depth, which is first and foremost for EB's heroine. … What a privilege for Dalton to have gotten to play Rochester *and* HC! … I like their (though I sadly forget the name of the Jane actress) Jane Eyre version better than this one - so far - but this one is clearly excellent too, and in the same tone and style as that Jane Eyre. Which I believe came less than a decade afterwards, and was early 80's, I think, but still hanging onto the 70's style.

      The 35mm negative film the movie was shot on (Kodak Eastmancolor 5254) was a brilliant film but I would say the magic came with the Technicolor copy that was made from it (this was so further copies could be made without touching the negative again). As far as I understand it this Technicolor copy is able to keep its colour without fading almost indefinitely and it's this copy you see a scan of above :-) Wikipedia says the last time this process was used in the UK was in 1978, which would fit in with your observation. This is an old upload of mine and it would be possible to create a far higher quality video with the sources and tools that are available now. I will just add that this has been my favourite movie ever since I first saw it and I think it always will be...

      In those days, a woman had nothing if not a proper marriage. She and Heathcliff would have been extremely poor, which would have been very frightening for her. Women depended on a good marriage for survival

    Hi Maita - The UK MGM DVD of Wuthering Heights has plain English as well as 'Hard of Hearing' English subs as well as an assortment of subtitles in other languages - I should imagine the US DVD has pretty much the same arrangement.
    Not sure about DVDs in other regions, but I hope that helps you...

    • @etiennefromage8063
      @etiennefromage8063 7 років тому

      The U.S. release doesn't have the multiple languages that the U.K. release does (just English and French); but the subtitles for the U.S. release are better (more accurate).

    Why do they match Timothy Dalton with wrong actresses...
    I also like Tom Hardy as he was the first I watched but so glad I found Timothy Dalton in this. Now I can change Timothy Dalton Rochester or Heathcliff

    • @cellowali2865
      @cellowali2865 3 роки тому +4

      I like his Rochester more, this is not a good version of wuthering heights as it is not at all faithful to the novel and moreover Timothy Dalton deserved miniseries for wuthering heights.

    I wish they would give this a new release on Blu-ray already, but seeing how obscure it is compared to other versions (esp. the 1939 and 2009 versions, which don't get me wrong I also love), that may not be likely, at least not anytime soon.

    • @etiennefromage8063
      @etiennefromage8063 7 років тому +1

      The out-of-print MGM U.S. DVD has accurate subtitles in English and French. You can still get a used copy in good condition for a cheap price on Amazon.com. The subtitles are more accurate than the U.K. edition. The picture quality of both versions are about equal. In my opinion there is finer detail in the U.S. release and a better menu. The U.K. menu is generic and there were several obvious errors with the English subtitles (either words not captured, or different words from what's actually uttered).

    A good portrayal of Heathcliff. However the movie does not go as far as the 2nd generation. Instead Heathcliff is murdered shortly after Cathy's death here. Timothy would be too young in 1970 to play the older Heathcliff. However if he came back in 1980s to play Heathcliff in the full story version after playing Rochester, he could have played both the young and older Rochester really well.

      Ralph is pretty devastating. He's a bit patrician looking for the part but he's also the actor who most went for interpreting Heathcliff as the the tormented child who devolves into the Saranic antihero. It's a very brave and intense interpretion. His presentation of the cursing scene is my favorite by anyone.
