I love the slingshot to kite Deerclops from a distance, cheese 2nd phase Klause and aggroing neutral mobs. It's useful in its own ways and very fitting for the scout playstyle.
+ you can spam merm houses from the day you find swam. Just enslave merms to gather enough wood amd than lead them into tentacles for fish and tentacle drops. You can reliably get 20+ houses before winter if you put ypur mind to it
Also, wormwood can so easily constantly have a dark sword on him, it makes combat super easy if youre atleast somewhat okay at kiting, people in these tier lists always seem to forget how easy it is to mass produce healing salves, i have 40 on me at any given time as wormwood, the animation is a big long but it certainly works.
I remember my first character ever was WX-78, I didn't have a clue on how to play the game, survived the first days by eating petals and seeds, on the 3rd day it started raining and I died. 10/10 will eat petals and die from rain again.
Tip for Wendy players: because of Abigail's speed and the fact that it takes most mobs a moment to realize that she's a threat, she can be used to easily kill butterflies or sometimes even mobs that flee from you like rabbits, saving you the trouble of trapping them if you just need the resources they drop.
About Walter's slingshot: it's not useless. Being the only ranged weapon in the game that's cheap to use, you can use it for a lot of things, like killing birds and angering koalas/goats/other mobs that flee. Nothing in dst is useless, pretty much every single item can be used in one way or another.
Not to mention that the slingshot is pretty good against shadow creatures since you can basically stunlock them by holding the attack button with a slingshot
@@HanganakaNak actually, i think the update promotes tanking even more, since he lost his speed boost and doesn't suffer a penalty from marble armor. on top of that, if you waste time kiting with new wolfgang, you'll lose mightiness, so it's best to just keep tanking.
@@keane6 Yeah but kiting was better than eating Proige Progie Progei ANYWAYS i personally think that dumbells are good and fun free 2x bosst but when you eat things and get that boost you don't need to wait a a munite the full you just need to eat like 8 carrots i think for full 2x boost [New update made my play style bad :{ ]
They're pretty good to be honest, just a pain to craft

@@roseg5684 I didnt use them either back when I used Wigfrid, still a very good character. The hardest thing about her is not being able to quickly eat anything like a seed to stop starving until your meatballs is ready
I found wickerbottom to be a decent beginner character. Being able to make a backpack right away without a science machine, and being able to build a shovel off the bat, makes the early game that much easier. Her high sanity is nice for newer players learning the mechanic. She's good pretty much from early to late game, and her sub par combat skills are made up by tentacle books. Speaking of tentacle books, being able to farm spots for your first spring is also really useful.
That's the problem though, great to start and explore more comfortably but then you've got the rest if the game. You are only going to be living as a nomad for about 4 days. And then her usefulness vanishes like that. Books are handy but i don't rate that
i love the idea of wanda, glass cannons are already my favorite kind of characters because i absolutely love high risk high reward mechanics , but i also love the whole watch motif she has, its just really cool
About Webber's ability to eat monster foods: it carries over to stale and spoiled ones (webber can eat raw, spoiled monster meat with no downsides) but only stale and spoiled monster food
I think you should've added a "versatility" stat to these ratings. Also I find it really dumb that people keep calling Walter's slingshot "useless" because of its bad damage; DAMAGE ISN'T THE POINT. It's an unlimited ranged weapon that's cheap to use, and has utility ammo. Since Walter is at more risk than other survivors during combat, giving him a slower but safer way to fight only makes sense, and being able to just start the game and immediately begin taking out birds and rabbits is a HUGE boon.
I don't think the slingshot is as good as you advertise. Any character with a spear/axe/any melee weapon can easily kill a rabbit if they get in between the rabbit hole and the rabbit and birds aren't really that great of a food source. Damage is incredibly important. You said that the slingshot gives Walter a safer way of fighting enemies, which means that you consider the slingshot a viable weapon, making damage very important. If you actually use cheap resources you don't do a lot of damage and using expensive ammo is too much of a waste. Because the fight takes longer, the player has a lot more opportunities to get impatient and slip up, making it unsafe in the long run. It also gives outside forces such as rain, hound attacks, seasonal bosses, other monsters or even extreme weather a chance to mess everything up.
@@fishycheese I've tried to chase rabbits and turkeys with a spear and thay almost never work, even if i stand near the hole the rabbit runs. I maybe still a bit of a beginner but i def fond it more easier to use a ranged weapon.
@@fishycheeseof course. Because the only players that play this game are 1337haxxors that know every single mechanic by heart and study 1000 hours before they touch the game. Touch grass buddy.
On the contrary, having the option to play a combat character that doesnt need to focus on much else can be a nice change in pace. And assuming you know you can't rely on her perks as anyone else can be good training wheels. I learned combat by playing as her. The lifesteal helped me survive to fight more. Fighting more without needing to do anything else gave me the practice to know how to do it without relying on her healing perk.
@@sklsdjfDST wiki.... Willow will only light fires under her feet in normal DS but they removed it in DST because griefing obviously. Now the most problematic character is Wurt/Webber because their entire gameplay revolves around monsters so they will mess up the base unless it's Webber-only or Wurt-only world.
I need to say this... there is a lot of issues with this video. Wigfrid tanks a boss solo... combat 6/10 Winona has catapults which let you destroy bosses... combat 6/10. Meanwhile Warly just makes an item which boosts damage... and gets an 8/10? Meanwhile "Wart requires a lot of setup." is a downside... when you are talking about AT THEIR BEST. Even Walter's combat is bad... when he attacks at range negating his downsides? AT HIS BEST there are no problems and only upsides as you now skip the need to kite decently well against most enemies.
im very late but the volt goat jelly can increase by 250% in wetness plus 33% with spice which is more than wolfgang, and if you wanna be a menace you can feed it to him wigfrid has high survivability because of damage reduction and leech but only does 25% more damage than a normal character and a slightly stronger spear which is why its only a bit higher than a normal character
Woodie can speedrun lunar island and get you kelp plants and stone fruits and a lot of glass cutters. He can easily take care the frog rain with charge attack . Webber can actually make a farm that provides 20 mm per day a full a frige in few days (infinite silk for drip and healing from salves). Walter can tell stories as well
@@Jakeyosaurus I disagree only because of how much cheaper it is for woodie to become a goose while other players will need to gather wood which is best suited for woodie (he can also get a ton of wood while he's there for everyone) unless you have a maxwell around making woodie the best for bringing lunar loot to the mainland extremely early. I think what devalues this advantage the most is lunar loot just isn't that amazing other than the kelp and rock fruit. Glass axes aren't needed if you have a woodie or max and the cutters are just situational for shadow creatures.
@@saltyninja9875 You only need 33 logs to go to Lunar Island, which is only 11 trees, or less if you also have a shovel. (Not counting alchemy engine but still not much)
Don’t know if anyone said this but for willow, it’s good to have two bernies because it would be hard to pick him up to repair him if all the shadow creatures or enemies are on his body. So having two works a bit better.
Woody is the best early game character for a group. By day 6 you can: 1. Find the lunar island (via goose) 2. Collect All the seaweed and stone fruit trees + Anenemy 3. Mine tons of stone, gold and the lunar alter (via beaver) 4. return home to make an incredible base
I would say that Wanda should have more survivability points if considering other situations. Because the way she "heals" herself, I don't even care about eating raw monster meat when I really don't have any food left because she can negate the health penalties. I joined a public server once on the middle of the summer. Since no one wanted to help me, I went into the caves and started mining stalagmites, but I only survived because I was eating red mushrooms lol
As a Wanda main I feel like Wanda does more damage overtime due to her extra range from the alarming clock so she can sneak in a few extra hits that Wolfgang can't
@@stealthbeastgaming A couple months is much more than enough time to have a new main, even a few days if you aren't treating it like a competitive eSports game.
I would argue that Wolfgang's Utility should be lower. The argument that "He can kill stuff for your team" is clearly a Combat perk, not Utility (under that argument both Combat and Survival would be Utility, since being good at survival and combat both prosper your team). The fact that he consumes more food should make him at least bellow average in Utility, just saying.
combat and utility kinda go hand in hand. a beast that can destroy bosses is a valuable asset to any team. eating a lot of food is more of a survivability issue rather than a utility issue. that plus his increased sanity drain, i'd argue that he's a 4 or even 3 in terms of survivability (not counting combat).
I agree, and i feel like if killing stuff for your team is utility, then Walter should be ranked higher for being able to one shot anything that gives small meat, turkeys, butterflies, and bees. Easy feather collection
Wigfrid is only 6/10 combat? You must be kidding. She deals more damage constantly, without any conditions unlike Wolfgang or Wendy (they need to met conditions), she have life/sanity steal which makes her really tanky AND she also have permanent damage reduction which actually stacks with armor making her even bulkier. On top of that, she have a constant supply of great early-mid game gear (battle spear, while being a bit costly, deals considerably more damage and battle helm is basically football helmet but cheaper and more durable) ensuring her safety even in a long trip. Not to mention her buffs that increase entire party's life/sanity steal. She is a goddamn monster able to kill any non-boss enemy, even a small pack of hounds, face-to-face without kiting and with minimal losses
yeah I mean she is kinda overturned compared to someone like Wes that has 75% utility on EVERYTHING, least hp, sanity and hunger meter in the game, not rewarding to play and only has a few gimmicks. Why even play Wes or Wilson or Wolfgang when you can get better at fighting, tanking, buffing whole team in combat, and all this with the only downside of eating meat only
Walter also has the ability to free kill treeguards, tentacle and deerclops with his sling shot as they are never in range of you. Also the ability to aggro koalaphants is also helpful.
It's a bit boggling to me that you ranked Woodie as low as you did, he can fit Abby's role in terms of spider farming with charge, he harvests super fast, barely behind Maxwell, and significantly faster with help from Warly, and the map exploration early with goose is absolutely insane.
Thank you so much for listing the details about each character. I'm playing dst on an on-and-off basis as life is too busy and hectic and with many updates for almost every month, i keep getting left behind. As always keep it up! Love your dst videos, very helpful and entertaining.
i feel like with woodie, some things were missed. firstly, the moose is very good at farming weak groups of mobs similar to abigail, when you use the charge attack as it will stun spiders, bees etc and they do basically no damage. secondly, the beaver is slightly worse at chopping trees than maxwell (and idk how youd compare it to wurt with a lot of merms) and gives you the option to either spawn lots of treeguards (with lucy) or spawn none at all (beaver). finally, the goose gives a very nice speed boost (albeit worse than magiluminescence + walking cane but still allows the backpack slot) and allows a round trip to the lunar island for 6 monster meat and 6 seeds which is pretty damn cheap
as someone who has always been bad at combat i love the option of fighting from afar that walter gives. i usually play with my partner who likes wigfrid, so while the attack from close up i attack from afar, and its also a great way to get meat for wigfrig since its super easy to kill birds/rabbits, and since i suck at fighting wobby's speed is great for running away lol. and tho he loses sanity easily he can tell camnpfire stories to raise everyones sanity, and as long as youre wearing armor the damage and sanity isnt that hard to deal with.
there is trick with setting up tentackle trap you set it up with grass walls but i found out cheaper method. you can just use tiled farmland to block tentacle spawn near you
I've never actually played this game before, but I did notice a very important piece of information that you seem to have neglected. That being Wolfgang's incredible mustache.
Walter main here. The playstyle he requires definitely changes the metagame a bit, but I enjoy it! It forces you to come up with novel ways to kill things because "just tank these few hits and then go back to kiting" doesn't work when the "couple hits" make you instantly insane. Riding Woby and killing Eye of Terror entirely with the slingshot was a pretty good time 😅
18:42 I feel that it's VERY important to mention tents as well. Through using a tent, he can spend 75 hunger to heal to full HP! And considering how many of his perks are good for getting food (like better farming, AOE damage abilities for killing spiders/hounds/bees/splumonkeys, and Lureplant/Sea Weed friendship), that 75 hunger is all the easier to acquire.
Wormwood's easy sanity manipulation and access to living logs whenever puts him very high for me. Always has nightmare fuel and dark swords. Farming for the fuel can be really helpful for night armor too if you base near reeds. But I am baised since I am a wormwood main. (Dont forget about Honey Polutice)
I'm about to get back in the game I used to main wormwood but my friends are telling me he's low tier garbage how do I argue this? (They mostly only care about the healing stat and sanity drain when really you get 10 sanity back from planting meaning if anything it's a buff for nightmare fuel)
I usually play as Willow, but I tried out Webbie and Wortox. You get so attached to your character. I wish I could play Wortox better. He looks so cool when used well.
Trying to branch out to wortox/one other character myself. I’ve beaten adventure mode on DS with Wigfrid, she’s clearly the easiest (for me) to play. Quite easy to survive the seasons and good for bosses.
Webber deserves way more points across the board because spider armies help his combat, his god tier spider farms give him plenty of utility and his spider nurses help the entire teams survivability. It doesnt look like 5 hp a pop is much, but if it happens 10 times in a fight it can heal everything you take. As long you were wearing armor ofc
Another tip for wormwood, woody, and wartox the siesta lean to is a type of tent that can only be used at day but makes up for it by using 4x less hunger than a tent. It nets you 8 hp and 4 sanity at the cost of 1 hunger every 4 seconds
I've never played this game and I don't plan to either but I still watched the whole video because your way of telling this info is very good. nice video dude
I love Wanda as a character. Before she came out, I was collecting spools (From unravelling most daily gifts and the ones gotten by playing the actual game) for the WX-s winter set for the Carol Emote, but once she came out, I completely ditched that and spent next 5 or so months (I know, I was really unlucky with the drops), trying to get 2700 Spools, which I did... Only about a month ago. She is really challenging to master as there is no burst healing from food that you can get and the only healing source is your clock that requires marble, red gems, Nightmare Fuel and Thulecite to craft (In case you loose your original one or just want more healing, as not even actual healing sources like life give amulets work on her), but also so much fun to play with!
I think you should bump up wortox's utility after the wickerbottom rework as he can now teleport anywhere he's seen and have a free second soul hop for a short while after doing one
Haha, i can't get enough of th se character guides even though I've seen tons of them already. Quite a veteran here and a wendy main. I recommend her if you want to be a bit more daring as a beginner and be swarmed with monster meats and honey
So in the very first character you missed the importance of Wilsons beard besides winter warmth- in that it makes it a lot easier to make effegies so you can resurrect if you die!
Haven't played DST in maybe 2 years (?) so seeing all these new characters is really pulling me back in. I always gravitate toward cooking and farming so Warly seems like a great fit for me to try!
I would add that playing as Wanda, I usually am able to sneak in lot more hits than I should when kiting particular mobs. The range, although not much, makes fights much more relaxed. I would probably get more dps out of her than Wolfgang unless tanking.
thank you for this i just got into the game recently and have found my love for webber and thanks to you i know how to use more of his kit. thanks again!!!!!!!
Woodie and Walter needs more credit. You can find Lunar Island, Crab King or Pearl's Island early in the game with Woodie. For Walter, he's a beast against Nightmares with his slingshot (you have to see it for yourself)
Wow. This is a very well edited video. You give all the info we need VERY fast. at some point I had to close my eyes and just listen in order to follow your pace. This is top quality content. Bravo amigo
I main her too and Jake is absolutely right, I don't play other characters cos I just love fighting in this game, and Wigfrid can fight well from day 1 haha
I am a wig player as well. Yes, you can tank but so can anyone else with the right equipment. The thing is I switched from Maxwell as a passive combat player to her. Plus the helmets on public servers is fantastic, since everyone has a tendency to destroy all pig houses.
My favorite is Wigfrid but I’ve been trying to branch out. Tbh I kinda wish she went more into the tank and support aspect and less into the good at everything and rewarding face tanking. A block mechanic or something like that might be a good way to make her tanks without making easy but idk
Fun fact: Willow is actually the best character if you're joining a Winter world. This is because 1. Bernie offers insulation while holding him 2. Lighter is free torch + campfire without worrying about getting grass/twigs that grow slower 3. Willow is immune to fire so she can purposely light a tree on fire, stand next to it, overheat and run around to abuse temperature
Actually I think the easiest solo characters to play are WX78 and Wendy but if u are duos I recommend you to play with Wigfrid and Wendy because you can do nearly everything you can do spider farm by killing all spiders with Abigail and with a shovel you ca.n make also berry bush farm for fertilize them you can go underground and collect stacks of light bulbs and wait them to be rot and your fertilizers are ready now with some crock pots you can make meatballs and so both of you can eat (as you know Wigfrid can eat only meat) so there will be no longer starvation problems and you can survive easily with battle helmets (I think Wigfrid's utility is 10 by the way) and battle spears or you may just use tentacle spikes (tentacles are easy to kill if Abigail takes all damage) or ham bat (by following suspicious dirt piles you can find koelephant and get it's meat and you can also make puffy and breezy vests u can pass the winter easily) and you will need gold nuggets to make battle helmets and spears you can just make a birdcage catch a bird with a bird trap and seed put it kill some frogs and if u give frog legs or monster meats to bird it will give you eggs and you can trade eggs to gold nuggets with pig king
I just realized that Warly beats the game when he kills bee queen. That hat + the grim gallet means endless amounts of health. And also for the closing remarks, Warly beats both Wolfgang and Wanda with a crushing 3 times max modifier.
I feel like Wilson needs a lower rating. Sure, he is the "default" in regards to abilities and stats, but that doesn't give him an inherent middle of the road stats. Characters like Abigail and Woody are more or less just better than wilson in every way, they should be the baseline as the gameplay of wilson differs very little to that of say woody. Personally, I'ds stick wilson at a 3/10 overall as there is little to no reason to ever really play him
No. He's the only character without any cons. One good thing is his beard growth and that's it. Barely a plus, but it's still something. His hunger, sanity and health stats are also the average. So his rating is average. 5/10 deserved.
A note about wartox's teleport: he can also teleport anywhere on the map by clicking on a location! It will cost significantly more souls but it's crazy useful :)
19:48 WAAAAY better way of healing: tents! A couple servings of meatballs and a single use of the tent bring you up to FULL HEALTH! And getting food is SUPER easy, considering how easily he can farm, and even eat raw monster meat with zero real downsides! Tents are honestly just SUPER OP as Wormwood! Also, he manually tends to plants much faster than other characters, and can identify what a plant wants at a glance
widgred supremacy; her healing song is so good when u have friends that want to kill a boss; gives her some really good utility. almost like a mini bat bat for wormwood as well. her "tank everything" style only works with set-up as well. (e.g. campfires to kill deerclops, dfly cage for dfly, etc.) another comment also mentioned wolfgangs similar problem with promoting this playstyle, and he doesnt provide anything to his team (pre-update) rude interlude is also a fantastic way to turn her tankiness into a cool part of her character, allowing her to take on mobs while allowing her team to heal her (wortox), deal damage (wally), or set up damage (winona)
Just realized every single character's name starts with a W, ecept for Maxwell, whose name starts with an upside down W. How did i never notice this And i suppose Charlie, but she isnt playable
I remember getting my first chester🤣 I was new and I was playing with my brother and he went to get wood and I started exploring cuz I didnt know what to do and I found a stick and I grabbed it and I was like hmm interesting and then the chester just spawned there out of nowhere and I said : ew help me bro some ugly frog is following meee!!! And I was running away from the chester and then my brother looked and his reaction was : OMG YOU FOUND A CHESTER!! HE IS SOOO RARE!!! And I was like WHAT?
Wes also benefits from durability buff for weapons and staves. He also can farm nightmare fuel very effectively since he can make balloons to quickly lower his sanity to farm nightmares.
Holy hell this is an immense amount of effort and information! I've seen you around other small DST channels and it's great to see how much you like and support the game along with it's community. I look forward to more of your videos Jakey! ᴬˡˢᵒ ʷᵉᵇᵇᵉʳ ᵇᵉˢᵗ ᶜʰᵃʳᵃᶜᵗᵉʳ
So I met some people who says that no one mains as Willow. But I do. Because, winter is frikin easy. Don’t even gotta worry about freezing when you can literally light yourself on fire and be fine. Ironically, summer is way harder than winter for Willow.
I feel like wigfrid's combat and utility rating should be raised, and she's an excellent damage sponge for teams and can mass produce some of the best armour in the game, along with using songs to buff everyone on your team when fighting
Here's me just getting in to the game... as Wigfrid. I'm joined by a few rl friends so I saw her as an asset to the team and it turns out more than I thought. I plan on playing other characters down the line but I've enjoyed playing the valk archetype in the past so its cool I get to do it here, I wasn't expecting that at all.
IMO Best characters for beginners: WX-78 - No penalty for spoiled food, can increase stats with gears, and being struck by lighting is actually good. Wendy - Has literally a bodyguard that can't be stunlocked, looses less sanity. Worst for beginners: Maxwell, Wes, Wanda. All have particularly different gameplay Best overall: Wortox - Can teleport to get out of danger/explore faster. Can easily rush ruins with moggles. Can heal himself for quite a lot. Can trade souls for hunger Worst Overall: Wurt - Basically an expensive Webber.
wurt is literally the single best character for beginners, no sanity issues, less spring troubles, ignore the swamp's danger entirely those are kinda the big three of beginner troubles I can get the meat thing, but I'm trying to get the 'expensive webber' bit also the exact opposite, wortox, struggles with sanity the absolute most out of any character in the game, and has a lotta things that kinda just dont work in new player's hands besides the healing
@@quinttwo "Wurt is good for beginners" - AYYY LMAO we got a muddy simp here. I never said Wortox was the best for beginners learn to read man. WX-78 and Wendy are. Even Wes has more utility than Wurt. That character sucks ass
@@Draxis32 wrote in the middle of the night, but now that I see that you think wortox is the best character in the game overall, I'm even more impressed with how stupid you sound wurt is genuinely the single easiest character to pick up, gaining ⅓ more hunger from most sources with a great hunger pool immunity to insanity, heat and cold just by holding fish immunity to every negative effect from wetness besides the temperature (just hold a fish), and the given swamp dangers nullified you literally dont need to get into her late game stuff for her to be insanely good as a character already, which is insane alone, eventually making her the best character for gathering, fighting (besides the obvious Wanda and Wolfgang), and just top tier survival compared to anyone else with little setup
Unpopular opinion: Klei should buff wes' health at least 1 point above of charlie's damage so maxwell can be the only one killed by her in a single hit.
Wigfrid's Combat rating should be higher. Her survivability is clearly a 10/10 but it's HEAVILY reliant on her combat abilities, which should bring her combat rating up to at least an 8. If you ain't fighting, you ain't survivin'.
@@Jakeyosaurus but she also takes 25% less damage and can heal health and sanity which lessens the effects from bosses, along with being able to craft really good armor
Actually there is one food that can heal wormwood which is grim galette only can be made by warly. You can swap your sanity and hp and plant some crops to regain your sanity quickly.
Wendy+webber is food farm(you don't need webber if you found a spider infection in the Mosaic biom) And Wendy+wigfrid/Wolfgang is great they can kill bosses while Wendy kills minions+small creatures
wow webber is only 6/10 on utility, 6/10 in combat and survivability is also 6/10 wow you did webber dirty for utility 8/10 -webber can sleep in the nests for a tent regen effect multiplied per tier and the nests and doesn't have durability like tents do -webber can eat everything meat related without any of the downsides this includes frogs legs all raw meats and monster meat for easy farming depending on where you place the nests webber can also pick up friendly spiders and kill them with no anger friendly spuders from that nest -nests can also farm infinite silk and control the spider nests size using the razor using the webby whistle in conjunction -finally increased movement on webbed turf with combat 9/10 with the a nurse spider army webber basically becomes immortal combine a nurse spider army with your DPS army for an unkillable army for water combat you can use the water striders for ranged combat you can use the cave spitters for melee you can use warrior spuders, cave spiders, spider monkeys and the albino spiders and for movement you just place some spider nests in your fighting area for survivability 8/10 since webber can eat basically anything raw farming using spiders means infinite food webber is protected from hounds bosses and most enemies using spider nests around webbers base which he can create an infinite amount of them pretty easily and infinite sanity from sleeping in a tier 3 nest and infinite health from not only sleeping in a nest but if you base in a spider killing place means infinite healing sacks not to mention becoming immortal from being near nurse spiders the simple reason webber isn't a 10/10 for survivability is for the time it takes to find the perfect spot(5 in game days roughly) or the time it takes to fully set up from nothing (10 to 20 days).
Good video, there were a few things I wasn't so sure about, but I can't blame you for not having an exact copy of all my opinions and overall, I pretty much agree. Especially the Wigfrid advice.
As a wigfrid main I don’t notice a ton of other wigs out there, though her playstle is quite different than the normal, but it rewards aggression. If you stop being aggressive and get too deep into other tasks without storing up meat you’ll fall behind the curve and need to catch back up. Solo wigfrid can be tough to base build/early game objectives, but when you have the freedom to do hunts and explore, you can really speed up other characters early game.

About Wormwood: he can't lose health from eating things either, so he can eat raw red mushrooms without losing health

All of these characters are so creatively made. So much work has been put into their designs and mechanics

About Walter's slingshot: it's not useless. Being the only ranged weapon in the game that's cheap to use, you can use it for a lot of things, like killing birds and angering koalas/goats/other mobs that flee. Nothing in dst is useless, pretty much every single item can be used in one way or another.
In my opinion, Walter’s Slingshot is very good for new player to use, since it can 1 shot rabbit and bird so new player can find food easily.
If I need a range wep to agro something I make an ice staff but I can see the slingshot's nieche uses
You can do all of that with a boomerang. With less damage ofc

Its in the description...
Since Walter is at more risk than other survivors during combat, giving him a slower but safer way to fight only makes sense, and being able to just start the game and immediately begin taking out birds and rabbits is a HUGE boon.
fr. the game is literally called "don't starve".. having a character that can hunt easy food with 0 risk is a huge help in a pinch, regardless of dps.
Willow have a huge problem. Once she is somewhat insane she will start randomly ignite things, so she will burn all your base.
but her bear also gives her a bit of sanity if its equiped in her hand slot
they removed that a while ago
@@yeahmemia what???? ..... literally no way they removed that lol. source?
@@yeahmemia I think so aswell, never happened to me that I burned random stuff with willow even with low sanity.
@@sklsdjfDST wiki.... Willow will only light fires under her feet in normal DS but they removed it in DST because griefing obviously.

Wes tool durability applies to weapons meaning he can use less dark swords than wendy without abigail
True!
And it applies to staves as well making him an alright caster of sorts
I need to say this... there is a lot of issues with this video.
Wigfrid tanks a boss solo... combat 6/10
Winona has catapults which let you destroy bosses... combat 6/10.
Meanwhile Warly just makes an item which boosts damage... and gets an 8/10?
Meanwhile "Wart requires a lot of setup." is a downside... when you are talking about AT THEIR BEST.
Even Walter's combat is bad... when he attacks at range negating his downsides? AT HIS BEST there are no problems and only upsides as you now skip the need to kite decently well against most enemies.
the Walter Wolfgang combo is honestly kinda nuts
He clearly hates wigfrid
im very late but the volt goat jelly can increase by 250% in wetness plus 33% with spice which is more than wolfgang, and if you wanna be a menace you can feed it to him
wigfrid has high survivability because of damage reduction and leech but only does 25% more damage than a normal character and a slightly stronger spear which is why its only a bit higher than a normal character
Walter can tell stories as well
With the new boat changes you travel pretty fast with just an oar and a boat so woodie kinda got devalued in this aspect
Why are people liking Jakes comment? Woodie is still the best to find lunar day 1
Oh for sure, he's definitely the best, but I'm saying any character can do what he does just a little slower
By day 6 you can:
1. Find the lunar island (via goose)
2. Collect All the seaweed and stone fruit trees + Anenemy
3. Mine tons of stone, gold and the lunar alter (via beaver)
4. return home to make an incredible base

So you pretty much just leave your team for 6 days and come back with everything you'll need?
@@tysonmaceachern9673 yes, but it’s the easiest 6 days in the game, and make the rest of the year better
I would say that Wickerbottom's survivability is at least a 6/10 because having all science machine recipes which can come in handy.

@@keane6 True, then maybe Utility should just be everything that's not purely Combat/Survival.
By that measure he would be just basic 5/10 in Utility.
I do agree! He seemed like a Wolfgang fanboy tbh
utility score is also from his speed I think
I think he's trying to convince newer players to not get caught in the Wigfred playstyle trap, which is fair
@@senorchelestor2099 fair enough

Walter also has the ability to free kill treeguards, tentacle and deerclops with his sling shot as they are never in range of you. Also the ability to aggro koalaphants is also helpful.
Finally a UA-camr who appreciates Warly.
What? Who is shitting on Warly? They must not be very good players if you don't think his insane utility is good.
Warly needs an investment of time, so typically he won’t get the use of his kit, Wurt suffers from a similar problem
@@mark-jf5ik the thing I love most about Warly is that he improves the farther you get.
It's a bit boggling to me that you ranked Woodie as low as you did, he can fit Abby's role in terms of spider farming with charge, he harvests super fast, barely behind Maxwell, and significantly faster with help from Warly, and the map exploration early with goose is absolutely insane.
Yeah I agree
I know for sure, Woodie is much better than he made it out to be, I have a friend who always catches him, and moose is very much against Bosses too
as someone who has always been bad at combat i love the option of fighting from afar that walter gives. i usually play with my partner who likes wigfrid, so while the attack from close up i attack from afar, and its also a great way to get meat for wigfrig since its super easy to kill birds/rabbits, and since i suck at fighting wobby's speed is great for running away lol. and tho he loses sanity easily he can tell camnpfire stories to raise everyones sanity, and as long as youre wearing armor the damage and sanity isnt that hard to deal with.
i find it funny that they rated the combat character that can mass produce some of the best armor in the game a 6/10 for combat and utility
there is trick with setting up tentackle trap you set it up with grass walls but i found out cheaper method. you can just use tiled farmland to block tentacle spawn near you
That's a great tip
Actual big brain tip right here. Thanks man that saves so much more materials
Thanks
I've never actually played this game before, but I did notice a very important piece of information that you seem to have neglected. That being Wolfgang's incredible mustache.
The entire video should have been about Wolfgang’s mustache tbh
I just started playing a few days ago and I've only played Willow... lol she's so cute
Trying to branch out to wortox/one other character myself. I’ve beaten adventure mode on DS with Wigfrid, she’s clearly the easiest (for me) to play. Quite easy to survive the seasons and good for bosses.
This doubles as a comprehensive guide to each character.
This madman only has 3 dst videos and is already my favorite dst youtuber
I like the fact that everyone's names start with W, and only Maxwell - the one who sent everyone into this world, the name begins with M.

And of course, what do you get when you turn W upside down? An M

i used to think walter was a beginner friendly character but the whole sanity thing is kind of hard maybe that’s why i keep dying😂
my friends and i started playing a few days ago and my one friend picked walter and he was always at like 40 sanity or below lol
Wes is good at creating skeleton after his death

@@bawlstars7857 the cons of a lot of characters are really minor though, particularly Abigail
A note about wartox's teleport: he can also teleport anywhere on the map by clicking on a location! It will cost significantly more souls but it's crazy useful :)
I'm really excited about the Wilson rework.
I just realized that like 90% of the characters names start with W
Old Wolfgang: emptying your fridge then killing the ancient guardian
New Wolfgang: ok it’s like that but with less food
19:48 WAAAAY better way of healing: tents! A couple servings of meatballs and a single use of the tent bring you up to FULL HEALTH! And getting food is SUPER easy, considering how easily he can farm, and even eat raw monster meat with zero real downsides! Tents are honestly just SUPER OP as Wormwood!
Also, he manually tends to plants much faster than other characters, and can identify what a plant wants at a glance
God I'm 100% here for the dst guides it's harder to find good ones now a days
I’m gonna be honest, it was only while looking at the time stamps in the description that I realized that all the characters have W names.
widgred supremacy; her healing song is so good when u have friends that want to kill a boss; gives her some really good utility. almost like a mini bat bat for wormwood as well.
her "tank everything" style only works with set-up as well. (e.g. campfires to kill deerclops, dfly cage for dfly, etc.)
another comment also mentioned wolfgangs similar problem with promoting this playstyle, and he doesnt provide anything to his team (pre-update)
rude interlude is also a fantastic way to turn her tankiness into a cool part of her character, allowing her to take on mobs while allowing her team to heal her (wortox), deal damage (wally), or set up damage (winona)
Just realized every single character's name starts with a W, ecept for Maxwell, whose name starts with an upside down W. How did i never notice this
And i suppose Charlie, but she isnt playable

Best use for Wes: Kill him as soon as he spawns, and give his bones to Warly for Bone Bouillon.
So I met some people who says that no one mains as Willow. But I do. Because, winter is frikin easy. Don’t even gotta worry about freezing when you can literally light yourself on fire and be fine. Ironically, summer is way harder than winter for Willow.
i dont know how wigfrid got the same combat rating as winona, she is made for battle
as well as wolfgang can tank'n'spank even more
I feel like wigfrid's combat and utility rating should be raised, and she's an excellent damage sponge for teams and can mass produce some of the best armour in the game, along with using songs to buff everyone on your team when fighting
Great video!
you forgot about wurt's merms being able to mine boulders and cut trees
You're right, wurt is pretty good at gathering resources
Here's me just getting in to the game... as Wigfrid. I'm joined by a few rl friends so I saw her as an asset to the team and it turns out more than I thought. I plan on playing other characters down the line but I've enjoyed playing the valk archetype in the past so its cool I get to do it here, I wasn't expecting that at all.
wigfrid: hold f and u cant die
wigfird combat score: 6/10

I remember when Wendy first came out. The game has evolved a lot since then. Holy moly. I should play again.
IMO
Best characters for beginners:
WX-78 - No penalty for spoiled food, can increase stats with gears, and being struck by lighting is actually good.
Wendy - Has literally a bodyguard that can't be stunlocked, looses less sanity.
Worst for beginners:
Maxwell, Wes, Wanda. All have particularly different gameplay
Best overall:
Wortox - Can teleport to get out of danger/explore faster. Can easily rush ruins with moggles. Can heal himself for quite a lot. Can trade souls for hunger
Worst Overall:
Wurt - Basically an expensive Webber.
wurt is literally the single best character for beginners, no sanity issues, less spring troubles, ignore the swamp's danger entirely
those are kinda the big three of beginner troubles
I can get the meat thing, but I'm trying to get the 'expensive webber' bit
also the exact opposite, wortox, struggles with sanity the absolute most out of any character in the game, and has a lotta things that kinda just dont work in new player's hands besides the healing
@@quinttwo "Wurt is good for beginners" - AYYY LMAO we got a muddy simp here. I never said Wortox was the best for beginners learn to read man. WX-78 and Wendy are. Even Wes has more utility than Wurt. That character sucks ass
@@Draxis32 wrote in the middle of the night, but now that I see that you think wortox is the best character in the game overall, I'm even more impressed with how stupid you sound
wurt is genuinely the single easiest character to pick up, gaining ⅓ more hunger from most sources with a great hunger pool
immunity to insanity, heat and cold just by holding fish
immunity to every negative effect from wetness besides the temperature (just hold a fish), and the given swamp dangers nullified
you literally dont need to get into her late game stuff for her to be insanely good as a character already, which is insane alone, eventually making her the best character for gathering, fighting (besides the obvious Wanda and Wolfgang), and just top tier survival compared to anyone else with little setup
This game seems soooo cool through your videos but it’s really tough on console
Unpopular opinion: Klei should buff wes' health at least 1 point above of charlie's damage so maxwell can be the only one killed by her in a single hit.
Wigfrid's Combat rating should be higher. Her survivability is clearly a 10/10 but it's HEAVILY reliant on her combat abilities, which should bring her combat rating up to at least an 8. If you ain't fighting, you ain't survivin'.
I rated them separately and she only does 25% more damage
@@Jakeyosaurus but she also takes 25% less damage and can heal health and sanity which lessens the effects from bosses, along with being able to craft really good armor
Actually there is one food that can heal wormwood which is grim galette only can be made by warly. You can swap your sanity and hp and plant some crops to regain your sanity quickly.
Walter’s utility should be higher because he can raise other players sanity by telling campfire stories
great video! you forgot to mention that wanda can use her "backtrek" watch to avoid charlie if timed correctly as its useful early game
Wilson for the win

Wendy+webber is food farm(you don't need webber if you found a spider infection in the Mosaic biom)
And
Wendy+wigfrid/Wolfgang is great they can kill bosses while Wendy kills minions+small creatures
wow webber is only 6/10 on utility, 6/10 in combat and survivability is also 6/10 wow you did webber dirty
for utility 8/10
-webber can sleep in the nests for a tent regen effect multiplied per tier and the nests and doesn't have durability like tents do
-webber can eat everything meat related without any of the downsides this includes frogs legs all raw meats and monster meat for easy farming depending on where you place the nests webber can also pick up friendly spiders and kill them with no anger friendly spuders from that nest
-nests can also farm infinite silk and control the spider nests size using the razor using the webby whistle in conjunction
-finally increased movement on webbed turf
with combat 9/10
with the a nurse spider army webber basically becomes immortal
combine a nurse spider army with your DPS army for an unkillable army
for water combat you can use the water striders
for ranged combat you can use the cave spitters
for melee you can use warrior spuders, cave spiders, spider monkeys and the albino spiders
and for movement you just place some spider nests in your fighting area
for survivability 8/10
since webber can eat basically anything raw farming using spiders means infinite food
webber is protected from hounds bosses and most enemies using spider nests around webbers base which he can create an infinite amount of them pretty easily
and infinite sanity from sleeping in a tier 3 nest
and infinite health from not only sleeping in a nest but if you base in a spider killing place means infinite healing sacks not to mention becoming immortal from being near nurse spiders
the simple reason webber isn't a 10/10 for survivability is for the time it takes to find the perfect spot(5 in game days roughly) or the time it takes to fully set up from nothing (10 to 20 days).
Wanda is the only character I would give 10/10 for everything (maybe survival 9/10)
