Al is playing a character of a pub landlord in times gone by, who would 'have one for himself' as in a pint of something and saw himself as 'a fountain of knowledge' talking away to his customers. In reality Al isn't bald and I believe shaves his hair and beard off for his characterisation.

Al Murray actually describes his pub landlord character as a Conservative, know-nothing, know-all blowhard who is very opinionated. Very funny but also at the same time quite irritating when he is always telling people in the audience to "give themselves a round of applause" for no apparent reason.

What you really need to watch is "An Audience with Billy Connolly" for the sketch about the incontinence pants. Highly visual and side splittingly funny.
Thing about Billy Connolly is that if you go to see him live you come out in pain from laughing so much. Then you go home and folks ask, "How was it?" and you go, "Great! Never laughed so much in my life". Then of course they ask, "What did he say?" and you go, "Er... dunno, cant remember, something about wanking, and maybe a dwarf". Happens every time.
Hi Amanda, love watching you laughing at the best of British comedy. Take a look at Fawlty Towers where Basil has a German guest at his hotel and tells his staff not to mention the war. So funny.
Amanda, it would appear that I am an addict, not to forbidden substances, but to your ALWAYS entertaining posts on UA-cam, I am 88 years of age, and more or less restricted in my movement, but I only need to use a couple of fingers to get to see what you are reviewing on your page, and it cheers me up every time.
If you haven't seen them yet, there's a couple of comedy series that defined a generation. I think they're all on UA-cam now. The first is Spaced, which was the series that launched Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright into orbit. The second is Black Books, about an incredibly bad-tempered, drunken Irish bookseller called Bernard Black, starring Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Tamsin Greig. They're both outstanding. Of an era, but weathered well.
"The Pub Landlord" is a character he plays sometimes for his gigs.... He also does comedy as himself. You should also check out his history programs. He has a great way of telling a story about WW2 and is incredibly knowledgeable.
May I suggest a slight detour and put forward the sketches “four candles” by the two Ronnie and “ dead parrot” from the monty python team, for your consideration?
He was standing for election in 2015 General election. One of his policies was to increase a pound from 100p to 101p to give you more value in your pound.
His stage show is the character the Pub Landlord from a situation comedy called Time Gentlemen Please. He's actually a very intelligent and well educated man.I think he want to Oxford and studied history and is very good at it.
the character was around way before that Sky sitcom. he used to perform it back when he was touring with Harry Hill (and earlier) when no one knew who he was.

His character the Pub Landlord is so different to Al in real life. He’s a really well informed military historian who led has made quite a few historical documentaries. Miles away for his on stage persona. Definitely give Frankie Boyle a go, brace yourself for the language and accent though. Jimmy Carr as well, awesome live. Another great video. Thanks Amanda and you’ve such a great accent.
For Frankie Boyle you could start here. m.ua-cam.com/video/I6iwHOlHkD0/v-deo.html He’s very strong at times. We don’t see him on tv very often because of how close to the bone he can be. But he’s really the desk heart of comedy.
If you can, Amanda, get to see Al Murray, live. He is murderously funny. But also incredibly bright. I have seen him twice now and the banter with the audience includes incredible memory for details, names, jobs, foibles etc. and he has no advance warning or information about the crowd. He recalled the first four rows at one gig - every person except one (my son) who he failed to ‘pick on’ and even then at the after-show book signing, he remembered where we were sitting and that he had not ‘selected’ him. And being a ‘student’ would have got him both barrels😂
@ anthony ovenden also Airplanes & religion from the same `93 stand up series. His original tv show sketches are hilarious too, on You tube in 4 parts. :)
Suggestions - Billy Connolly, Rowan Atkinson, Jimmy Carr, Tim Minchin, Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard, Peter Kay, Tommy Cooper, Lenny Henry, Hugh Dennis, Frankie Boyle, Ronnie Corbett with Ronnie Barker (the two Ronnies), and Monty Python live at the Hollywood Bowl (any and all the sketches) Some are sketches, most are standup, some do both. Have fun! :D
One I'd recommend is Billy Connolly and especially the Colonoscopy sketch from his World Tour series of programmes when he visited and toured New Zealand
Hilarious... I used to see him quite regularly walking down Chiswick high road with his children doing the shopping just being a normal dad. A very funny and clever man.
He is a very clever man. Studied history and did a TV documentary series some time back about the D day invasion. Doesn't sound anything like the pub land lord he portrays here.
Alastair Murray’s got into comedy through the Oxford Revue ( at the university) where many really famous comedians and actors came from........He’s professionally Al Murray, The Pub Landlord.......over the years he’s developed the stage props of a bar etc. The drink is non alcoholic, as law in the U.K. doesn’t allow him to drink proper booze on stage. He’s got a degree in History from Oxford (clever lad, then) and is involved in historical programmes on TV as well as his comic skills. He’s a gifted narrator.
Al Murray has a degree from Cambridge in History... his actual breadth of knowledge is staggering. The Pub Landlord character allowed him to make his knowledge and quick wit accessible to those that weren't as knowledgeable but we carried along.

ua-cam.com/video/6cFlplRarCY/v-deo.html
Thing about Billy Connolly is that if you go to see him live you come out in pain from laughing so much. Then you go home and folks ask, "How was it?" and you go, "Great! Never laughed so much in my life". Then of course they ask, "What did he say?" and you go, "Er... dunno, cant remember, something about wanking, and maybe a dwarf". Happens every time.
@@gortmundy01 that's a perfect description for a Billy Connolly night.
Only experienced it once but that's how it went.
@@dub_dub1504 Think its a couple of times for me, same result. Its like a magic spell. Great nights though.
@@gortmundy01 a truly gifted comedian.
You've got to love Al Murray. He's a walking talking historian.
Walking and talking history proffessor
Please watch Kevin bridges
Oh joy, great to see Amanda 'getting' Al Murray. And crying with laughter. Result.
Hi Amanda, love watching you laughing at the best of British comedy. Take a look at Fawlty Towers where Basil has a German guest at his hotel and tells his staff not to mention the war. So funny.
Amanda for Queen of England says I... Great reaction as always. Still loving the sound of your laugh. 😙
That voice of yours gets me every time...you need a radio show or start a podcast or something :)
Yes he drinks because he plays a character called the pub landlord.
I'm so glad :)) i hope youre well Terry! :)
He has a podcast, "We have ways of making you talk" which is well worth a listen if you like WW2 history.
2:10 the Germans had a dream once to be fair but nobody else liked it very much 😂
May I suggest a slight detour and put forward the sketches “four candles” by the two Ronnie and “ dead parrot” from the monty python team, for your consideration?
Don't you mean "Fork Handles"?
Yeah - Four Candles is regarded as the greatest sketches ever and dead parrot is not that far behind.
@@johnfranklin1914 Yes, Four candles....
@@zahrans nah, handles for forks.
Excellent recommendation, well done Terry!
He was standing for election in 2015 General election. One of his policies was to increase a pound from 100p to 101p to give you more value in your pound.
If you haven't seen him yet have a look at Rhod Gilbert, very few funny stand ups in UK now.
His stage show is the character the Pub Landlord from a situation comedy called Time Gentlemen Please. He's actually a very intelligent and well educated man.I think he want to Oxford and studied history and is very good at it.
That’s brilliant! He’s so funny
the character was around way before that Sky sitcom. he used to perform it back when he was touring with Harry Hill (and earlier) when no one knew who he was.
🇬🇧😂🇺🇸 ohhh gawd I thought here we go, will she laugh or take offence. Your a star and definitely know our banter is just done for fun, you certainly have the British wicked sense of humour flowing through your veins..... An easy way to gauge it is if a Brit comedian rips your country or community to pieces, we like you. If your ignored then take offence 😜........I hope you can do a LEE EVENS reaction as he’s my favourite comedian. I watched other people trying and they all say it gets blocked for copyright reasons. Fingers crossed you can get one uploaded and your need a bucket for the tears of laughter, not just a tissue 😂😭 recommend ANIMALS if you can 🤞🏻....have a fantastic evening 😁
Try Al Murray ' We defeated every country at war'
Okay! 👍🏻😊
I'm no fan of an American accent but her voice is like velvet. Lovely.
He is a very cultured man. His comedy is another part of his talent. Watched other stuff. A very mild man.
Hmmmm," mild man," was thst a joke!???
His character the Pub Landlord is so different to Al in real life. He’s a really well informed military historian who led has made quite a few historical documentaries. Miles away for his on stage persona.
Definitely give Frankie Boyle a go, brace yourself for the language and accent though. Jimmy Carr as well, awesome live.
Another great video. Thanks Amanda and you’ve such a great accent.
Is there any videos in particular you’d recommend for frankie Boyle and Jimmy carr ?
@@LADYRAEUK ua-cam.com/video/14Te3Kq6gtE/v-deo.html is a good Jimmy Carr
For Frankie Boyle you could start here.
m.ua-cam.com/video/I6iwHOlHkD0/v-deo.html
He’s very strong at times. We don’t see him on tv very often because of how close to the bone he can be. But he’s really the desk heart of comedy.
Definitely watch Al Murray as he talks about Britain’s place in the world.

@@LADYRAEUK Big narstie vs Jimmy car
Al Murray is the pub landlord and plays the part brilliantly. He’s always getting drunk lol
It’s very low alcohol, like 0.5%. He explained his ‘bar’ on one of his DVD extras
@@Davefrydp Yeah fair shout. He’s a bit like Jethro
When he was on stage he did drink pints sadly none alcoholic one’s I did his security for a while and he is a really nice bloke.
Non alcoholic. None means "not any".
Lee Evans is hilarious. He's a very physical stand-up
Love how you get our humour 😂👍🏻
You should give Dave Allen ago and his sketch Teaching your kid to tell the time.
OMG! One of my favourite sketches ever!! 😂😂😂
@ anthony ovenden also Airplanes & religion from the same `93 stand up series. His original tv show sketches are hilarious too, on You tube in 4 parts. :)
Also Amanda..watch Dave Allen's Religious sketches. Very funny but not disrespectful
Dave was one of the best.
Suggestions - Billy Connolly, Rowan Atkinson, Jimmy Carr, Tim Minchin, Bill Bailey, Eddie Izzard, Peter Kay, Tommy Cooper, Lenny Henry, Hugh Dennis, Frankie Boyle, Ronnie Corbett with Ronnie Barker (the two Ronnies), and Monty Python live at the Hollywood Bowl (any and all the sketches)
Some are sketches, most are standup, some do both.
Have fun! :D
Yes the pint is a must ,and your facial reactions are brilliant, thanks.
Don't be fooled Amanda he's playing a character, he was educated at Oxford University.
Hilarious that an American is actually fooled by him lmfao
@@Grandmastergav86 americans are easily fooled
@@marccoote9106 I think you almost started a war there!
Does anyone care where he went to school ? He's funny
Just caught up on you're videos, and brilliantly entertaining. It's great to see such a fun element between the two cultures!
Thank you 😊
Lee Evans, please do the sketch where he's talking about trying to push start his car with his wife. Absolutely hilarious lol
I love the irony of Al Murray's comedy is talking Great Britain up as the best while drinking an Australian beer that no Australian will touch.
Well spotted,we can only get good aussie beer during the ashes test matches.
Its not even proper beer hes playing a character
@@MultiRibrob Whoosh! Right over your head, son.
@@TheNakedWombat ye it has feel free to fill me in
That's why we we export Fosters it's a bloody horrible beer.
One I'd recommend is Billy Connolly and especially the Colonoscopy sketch from his World Tour series of programmes when he visited and toured New Zealand
Or the old incontinence sketch!
Oh how lovely to watch a reaction video that doesn't keep getting stopped or talked over.....and that little giggle at the end...!
😊
Try Al Murray ‘National Anthems’. He has some observations on the American anthem.
Ive watched this so many times and s good as Als landlord is nothing beats how you say pints lol
Love to see your reaction to Micky Flanagan "Peeping"
As a yank that lived in Norfolk for 12 years - that was absolutely hilarious! Funniness at its best...
Yes always has a pint in hand he's the pub landlord
Lee Mack talking about Irish names and there spellings would be a great one to react to
Amanda is very cute
Along with the rest of the Al Murray recommendations and as a parent you ought to watch “Every Parent Must Watch This”
I don't know what's funnier, Al or you laughing! 🤣😂🤣😂❤❤❤
That is one of the funniest things I've seen in awhile + your reaction.
Yup, it's an act, but a very good one!
Even to us Brits he is hilarious.
Look for the one where he does the Moon landing, can't think of the title. Might be the one about jobs?
One small step for man, one giant leap for a c**t more like!
@@deanrobinson7626 lol
@dylan murphy Of late most everyone I know seems to have just their sense of humour and getting worse each week. LoL.
So I couldn't be sure.
This is the PERFECT comedien for smart people , my.god every joke HITS like a brick im dying 😅
I’d recommend you watch Rhod Gilbert. He’s one of the funniest stand ups
The torch with a million candle power routine is brilliant
On a scale of 1-10, I’d say his ANGER MANAGEMENT episode is an 11.
