Great video wilson! I might have to give a couple of these a try. The unfinished swan looks supper interesting! I really enjoyed death stranding despite the hate of it being a walking sim. It had little bits of fighting and challenge but mostly it was supper relaxing and satisfying.
Thank you very much, Melody!! TUS is so awesome, I *highly* recommend it. You know, I played Death Stranding for a few hours and bounced off it, but I've always felt iffy that I did that. I feel like I would actually really dig it if I'd played it at a different time of life. Maybe I'll just try again with part 2? We shall see...
@@Wilson-108 I think death stranding definitely falls in the category like you said where if you play it at the wrong time or the wrong mindset it just wont click the same way
I played Gone Home after a friend recommended it to me. Didn't tell me much about the game so, of course, I thought it was a horror game. I spent the first bit of it expecting to be murdered. But then I realized this was something different. Even after all these years, I had no idea that an entire genre of game excited that mimicked this. I agree with you that walking sims (which desperately need another name) aren't for everyone and aren't for every occasion. But man, when life is stressful, this is a great way to decompress. Thanks for the recommendation...more games to buy on Steam.
It really does give off a horror vibe at first! There's something profoundly creepy about being along in a house at night. But yeah, it really opened my eyes to a different kind of game. I'd love to hear your thoughts on any of these other games if you get around to playing them!
Personally I really like Virginia. It's more abstract because there's no voice acting so some things are left to interpretation Great content as always Wilson!
I agree, Virginia is a really cool game! That's another one that I played a long time ago, 8 years or so I think. I captured footage of it for a video a few months and found myself tempted to replay the whole thing... Thanks so much for watching, Lunar!
Great video, as always! I'm surprised you didn't include Antichamber, though! I didn't play The Unfinished Swan, but they both share the same artstyle and surrealism. If you didn't play it, I highly suggest you to give it a shot, but as with every walking sim, you should try it when you're in the right headspace. It's quite different!
Thank you so much, Daniel! You know, I've actually never played Antichamber! I remember thinking the game looked really cool, though. I'll have to give that a go, thanks for the recommendation. Maybe I'll end up discussing it on the channel!
I think no game should be placed in a box and labeled as something without delving into everything the games has to offer. It's funny that some people even said that Death Stranding is just a walking simulator when that game had more features than even the games featured in this video. Anyways, great video, dude :)
Thank you so much, Rust! I agree completely. You never know what you could be missing out on. I think I'm gonna try to revisit Death Stranding at some point! Or maybe just jump in for the sequel.
@@Wilson-108 Definitely play it. The game has a very interesting aesthetic and Hideo Kojima said he wanted to make a new video game genre with this game and it really doesn't feel like anything I've ever played. I hope to see a video of it on your channel in the future!
Maybe I'll pick up the Director's Cut that released on PS5! It definitely seems like a game that would be full of potential discussion topics for a future video.
@@Wilson-108 Yeah, the Director's Cut is great! It's what I played and it has some improvements and some added content. And yeah, I do also think you can discuss a lot of things in it. It's a very different game from anything else for a number of reasons and most of those reasons could be videos themselves.
You know, once I was wrapping this video up I realized I totally forgot to include Firewatch, which sucks cause I really liked that game. I'll work it into another video someday! Thanks for watching!
They're both so good!! I really need to replay Gone Home all the way through, I can't even remember what happens. Thanks for watching, Jenny, I hope you're doing well :)
Gone Home is still one of my favorite narrative based games. Its fantastic, human, and raw. Its just a really nice relaxing time. Its always installed on my computer if I ever need to unwind and just re-explore a strangely familiar-but-not environment. Thanks for giving it a shout out Wils!
Hell yeah, I remember you saying that you enjoy Gone Home! I really need to replay it. I feel like I rushed it when I originally played it. Thanks for watching as always, Noble!

I'm making a mental note to give it another try!
I am often in the mood to stroll through a quaint pub, so I personally appreciate this defense of walking sims
I always recommend a good quaint pub stroll...

This is such an underappreciated genre in this medium and it's great to see some (well-spoken) dialogue about this space :) Great essay!
Hey, thank you so much for saying that! I really appreciate it and I'm glad that you enjoyed :)

Thanks so much, Spooly!! You know we gotta keep things crisp around here ;)

Hey Wilson why your not replying my comment on Popular video
Sorry, I haven't been able to respond to comments in the last couple of days, but that's so cool, I remember those good ol days fondly!!
Ok
I greatly enjoy your video essays! Also thank you for defending a woefully underestimated genre c:
