Tripwire Bear ALARM SYSTEM - ALONE Season 8

  • Hey folks, you may have seen my tripwire bear alarm for camping on episode 7 of ALONE Season 8. In this video I'll be building a new and improved bushcraft security system for bears and other intruders! I build one similar to this in the last episode because I had grizzly bear tracks around the smoke house where all my deer meat was curing out. I used an airhorn to build this alarm to warn me if a bear was trying to get into my food cache. It worked great on the show but this one works even better. I used my Leatherman P4, silky saw, axe, and some snare wire to build this one.
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

I don't forsee making one but I enjoyed watching the process. Loved watching your assistants help out was fun to watch, glad to see a Dad teaching his kids how to live life outside of the interweb. Amazing the things that can be done with the Leatherman, I have carried one on my belt for years, probably used daily for one thing or another.

Felix Immler makes a lot of such contraptions from wood using his Swiss Army knife, and his recommendation with battening using such folding blades is to leave the blade open at 90 degrees to prevent the repeated blows from wearing out the spring locking mechanism, in order to preserve it for when you are hand-carving, so that the blade will remain steady and not slip due to the mechanism having come loose. I'm not certain if your Leatherman uses a similar mechanism, but if it does, I hope this piece of advice was useful!

Great idea! The airhorn needs to be horizontal tho instead of vertical. It's much more likely to be tripped by moving against the wire than having to step down on the wire. Very cool tho!

Why the 90 degree trigger? The gas in most cans still works when the can is on it’s side. Seems a simpler solution would be to put the trigger lever near vertical with the air horn affixed to the base horizontally.
