I am 70 years young and since I was 19 a black turtle neck has always been in my wardrobe I have 3 and can't live without them. You go girl.
Me too.
You're something girl. Because of you , I don't have to shop. I have everything you show. Now I know how to style them. Thanks!
I love hearing this so much! Thank you for that!
Almost all of us.)
Oh I love my turtlenecks because we live in the cold upper midwest. I especially love merino wool and super soft ones that fit a bit snug just to layer. I keep a black, gray, rust and garnet. If I could find olive, I’d get that too. When I worked in an office I was almost always in a black base and layered of from there with scarves, blazers, vests and bling. Getting dressed using a black base was great and I still do it today in retirement.
I traveled to the Europe Christmas markets this year with my black turtleneck as a base layer almost daily. I just invested in a new merino wool black turtleneck and can wear it daily just airing it out and washing occasionally...such an amazing piece. I always looked dressy/classy even with jeans or leggings!! I'm living year round in my capsule wardrobe and this is one of my top 5 pieces!!
Black turtlenecks ARE wonderful. I have three kinds in my wardrobe: One silk, one cotton, and one cashmere! Dont' judge me.
You got it going on. I’m 65 and you help me keep my “out there” stretched!! ❤❤❤
I’ve been following you for quite a long time now but honestly, I was getting a bit depressed. Being obese, it was very difficult for me to bring my personal inner style to fruition. Fast fashion was my only affordable option to get somewhat close. Oh, and Universal Standard on sale.
I’ve been losing weight, 25lbs down, 35 to go. Yay, but! I’ve been wondering how the heck I’m going to choose clothes when I have to replace my whole wardrobe. It just dawned on me watching this video, I will finally be able to express myself stylistically. I can already shop at Everlane. I have Joes jeans that fit now, I can shop at Quince, Banana Republic, etc.
One thing that always made me feel like me, for the past almost 40 years I’ve been fat, is a black turtleneck. Unfortunately since I’ve moved to Houston, I don’t get many opportunities to wear one! Ha! But it’s the most versatile clothing piece I own so this video was fantastic ! How’s that for oversharing? Sighs.
Congrats on your weight loss! Enjoy discovering your personal style.
@@wannabe41 thank you!
Hi. If you live in a hot climate & want the "turtle kneck look", you can role up a bandana & iron it flat, then tie it around your kneck with the knot behind you, & then tuck the loose ends down the back of your shirt. It will look like a turtle kneck peaking out of your shirt 👍
Gonna get me a new black turtleneck. I have those jeans!
I love a black turtleneck. I am 70 and don’t dress as edgy as you do, but the turtleneck is so versatile and I wear it with everything. I have a long neck so I prefer a higher neck sweater or turtleneck t-shirt. The t-shirt weight layers under my turtleneck cashmere sweaters and keeps the itchy sweater at bay. All of them keep my neck warm. The best! Thanks so much for this video.
There is that all-black outfit with a blazer again, a winning combination!
It really is, you can't go wrong with black on black :-)
I absolutely enjoyed today's episode. Love the black turtleneck. Audrey Hepburn, Steve Jobs and more looked so stylish in the basic black turtleneck. I have the same turtleneck in 5 different colors because they are such good layering pieces, but oh, the black turtleneck is the way to go.
Sooo many black turtlenecks! Standing in line at the grocery store recently, someone complimented me on my outfit--black turtleneck, jeans, stylish sneakers, and crossbody bag. I replied that it was my "Steve Jobs" look. The man loved his black turtlenecks! It kinda went over her head. But, he made it a style ethic. I wish we never had summer, because it's too hot to wear my black turtlenecks then! Thanks for doing an homage to the back turtleneck!🙏🙏🙏
lol. I am with ya on the no summer. Lol
I like summer- but do not like styling for the heat.
We all need something like a black turtle neck for summer 🙌🏻 What would Steve Jobs do? 🤔😂
@@VanCrane hahahaha! Good one! That is indeed the question!
They make sleeveless mocknecks.
I’ve been wearing black turtleneck since 1980, it’s a timeless look for me .
I think I have a turtleneck in just about every color. It’s definitely a go to for me. Especially in winter. Of course I have sleeveless ones for the summer. You just can’t go wrong with a turtleneck! ❤️❤️
I love turtlenecks as I’m always cold. I have a lot, greys, cremes, tans, black, and white. It’s like like security blanket.
@@ppw8716 same for me. They are a go to in winter!
Looks great! Love a black turtleneck!
I have people tell me that a turtleneck is out of style...because I always have a few in my rotation. I observed how you show that a BLACK one can go a long way. I LOVE the artistic twist to your styling and your videos. Trying to learn how to do that!!! In my humble opinion, You are one to the coolest chicks on UA-cam!
My whole winter wardrobe is mostly all turtlenecks.
My husband gives me shit about the turtleneck.. thank you for the validation!
Yes, turtlenecks forever!!! :-)
Iam 70 years old and never had less than five black turtlenecks in my life....
Love my turtlenecks! I must tell you, I received a wonderful compliment. “I love your style” and I have to give you credit for such great classic style tips! ❤️
THE BEST FASHION ADVICE EVER.
.......MY GO TO CLASS ACT ALWAYS...EVEN WHEN ON MY HARLEY !!!!!
I have 3 black turtlenecks plus two striped ones, one black on ivory, the other white on black.
I wear them constantly!! However, I have never thought of layering tees over them. Genius!
Didn’t Sharon Stone wear a black GAP turtleneck to the Oscars…..she also wore an antique men’s silk robe as a cover layer. But the turtleneck was all the buzz that year. It may have been worn with a Bill Blass or Valentino skirt.
Oh yes, you're right!
It was a sleeveless Black turtleneck. Iconic!
I love turtlenecks.. not obsessed, but have many of them. They are excellent choice for autumn, winter
I love the scarf-thing you do. As I started this post, you did the quick tutorial at the end. Yes, Ma'am--exactly what I was looking for!
Love black turtleneck..
I love a black turtleneck. I wear mine at least once a week. It is life-changing!
Turtlenecks just don't work for me. I have no neck - lol. I tend to wear mock necks (at the highest) or a boat neck (most flattering on me)
I'm glad it works for you and for so many.
Me too, my neck isn’t long enough plus it draws attention to my pooch under my chin. NOT. A good look. Mock neck is better!
I got rid of all my turtlenecks a few years ago and added them back for this winter. Black, black and white striped, red, brown, and gray. Still looking for an all white.
Of course it is not wrong to make a video about black turtlenecks. However, in my wardrobe one black turtleneck would be one too many. And collars are not turtlenecks. It is such a pity that my style has no overlap with yours whatsoever, because I love the way you present your videos.
Exactly like we dress in Minnesota/Wisconsin!! Love this!!❤️
Yes, us Midwestern folk love a turtleneck :-)
Love you...I have no neck. Turtlenecks make me look like my head sits on my shoulders. You look fabulous!
I keep a black turtleneck in my closet always. So versatile. ❤
Whenever I put on a black turtleneck it's like an "awakening". Every Time!😂
Yes! I have a cozy micro-fleece-lined for winter, and a black boatneck 3/4 sleeve for warmer weather. Cannot go wrong!
Totally agree. I love my black turtle neck … I bought myself a high quality silk one years and it’s still a favorite in my closet. PS … MN girl here too … layer is life!
Love turtlenecks and love black, I have heavy and lightweight ones I really liked the one you were wearing!
Such a good video - love everything about it. Iconic piece, great styling, good music. And so practical. ❤
Absolutely…perfect wardrobe staple 💙💙💙
I agree and like to the point of love turtlenecks. But, I don't wear them much because I feel restricted and feel like I'm suffocating when I wear them. I have a couple of them, but because of my issues, I just move on and don't wear them much. 😢
Instead I wear a black mockneck: I can wear those....
Yes, mocknecks are a great alternative.
Thank you!
I had to get a new phone and lost you for a while. I've been looking for you and you just popped up. Yeah!!! Girl I love you and your content. Keep it up!!!
Love this video!! I am with you 100%. I ❤️ Turtlenecks! I live in Winnipeg MB in Canada and it is part of my style uniform! I have various different versions of a black turtleneck (from fitted to oversized ) depending on its purpose. Love how you styled it in so many different ways!
I love turtlenecks, but I can't wear black. It is simply too strong a color near my face. My favorite turtleneck is a form-fitting chocolate brown which looks great with my camel coat and my olive-green trucker jacket. I no longer wear jeans and don't see many women in my area wearing them. Actually I've read that even highschoolers (at least around Boston) have drpped jeans in favor of more comfortable fashion.
Finally found one I like. Ralph Lauren black turtle neck. Looking forward to styling it!
'Wouldn't be happy without one, or two, or maybe three.
Love your style! I just bought the black turtleneck you have. It looks well made and I think I'm going to like the fit. Thank you for all your Chic style suggestions. You always look fabulous!
New subscriber bc of black turtleneck, one of my fav pieces. Had read turtlenecks were out this year and now i know they aren’t. Turtlenecks keep me warm after losing 85 lbs.
Thank you! I just moved to a cold climate and I am learning how to layer effectively, but with style. I hope you do more of these videos 😊
thanks for this! statement scarves, earrings... key piece in capsule wardrobe 👍
I couldn’t survive without a black turtleneck, a white turtleneck, and a red turtleneck.
Hay hay Mpls, I am also from
Minne 😂loving the vibe. That snarky Mpls vibe ❤❤ ❤ I moved out west, thank you for reminding me of home 🏡
Love wearing mine!
I Love Black and I Love turtleneck😍 Makes me feel confident👍
Love your style, just bought the Ragnbone Jeans an the Palladium Boots😂
Great idea for a video! Thanks, Emily! You really are such a great inspiration & source. 🎉
Ahhh thank you so much! :-) So nice to hear that.
Love this video. Love your styling!
Hit "LIKE" before you even finished your intro sentence! This is great - thanks for such a practical gem. Have a super-duper holiday season!
Watching a black merino wool turtleneck while watching this! Love my turtlenecks...husband hates them...oh well! 😂❤
Yes ❤😂 I absolutely love 💗 a comfortable turtleneck yes 👏🏽 very classy
1:33 Truly iconic 😂😂
Who knew Dwayne "the rock" Johnson is such a fashion icon! :-)
❤thank you for you awesome styling tips!!🫶 love the music.
Yay! Thank you!
Emily, I wanna wear a T-neck n o w & throughout Summer on into Autumn. Not wearing a great chainmail (❤) yet,
but I could groove with it...✌🏻
‘Let’s take a note from our medieval friends’ 😂
I don't wear black anymore, but I understand.
I need to get a black turtleneck!!👍🏻
All good, except for the turtleneck part. 😂
Fun video as always. You are awesome.
New subscriber here. Greetings from Wrocław Poland . I love your minimalistic style . Just like mine. 👏
Thank you! Do you like this black one more than the black Everlane micro ribbed one?
Which is why I have 5 black turtlenecks - 3 thin, 1 sweater and 1 merino wool!
Turtleneck lover here..... I have a black one too, as well as some in fall colors, burgandy and forest green. I have light blue and purple for around the house and white with black designs!
But... would you wear it to a wedding?
Indeed, the black turtle neck is the bomb-digity! I have a wool blend, seems extra long, fitted, long sleeved, black turtleneck that zips all the way up the back and neck. I have mended this thing everywhere ( edges of zipper, hem, elbows). Now she's limping along. It's the fitted detail I find hard to replace. This puppy does everything about which you speak and it's because of the fitted aspect she shines! Any hints on finding something fitted.
Love this ….what jeans are you wearing please with the turtleneck?
Hello Emily❤❤
Hope you are doing good Loved your video today ❤❤
Love the video and turtlenecks ❤️❤️
One question.. where is your golden hairacessoire from
The only disappointment with roll neck sweaters is that a horizontal pleat tends to form from shoulder to shoulder. I am always having to smooth it down. For some reason this doesn't happen with crew necks.
Agreed!
This girl is a brown turtleneck girl and found this video super helpful.
Ooooo brown turtleneck is chic as well.
Yes, can’t wear black without lots of white cat hair so other colours work fine.
black is always stylish
I love turtlenecks, black, navy, charcoal, even white and pale colours (in chunkier knits). But... the shoulder seams of that particular turtleneck would give me nightmares!!! Way too narrow on top for you, even if the underarm seam is OK. And did you have it on a hanger? There's little cat ears poking up!
One thing I've noticed now that I'm getting older is that wearing my turtlenecks folded inwards is a lot more flattering to my less than taut skin than wearing it conventionally folded outwards!
First like from me :) love your style EMILY :)
Yay for the first like! :-)
AlwYs I have a few in my wardrobe. No brIners.
I'm a big busted woman and I always feel a turtleneck makes me look like I have a giant monoboob ;). Any suggestions? Can I still get away with them with some clever tricks?
Like this video. Do you think black is too harsh for some skin tones though? Lots of blogs etc say that pale folks shouldn’t wear black, nor should they wear white because white isn’t enough contrast.
Your thoughts?
If you’re pale, black makes a dramatic contrast. It looks elegant.
Gold jewelry brights it up. Or wear a scarf or a brighter blazer.
@@DeniseSyrett black can make fair skinned women, especially with grey hair, look pasty and ill.
Proponents of seasonal color analysis would say yes, true black is too harsh on many people. It's about the undertone of their skin and the level of contrast they naturally have, not about the depth of their skin tone though.
But I think it's more important to wear what you feel great in and like the look of.
turtle necks don't look good on me, but rather I wear a scoop neck thermal baselayer which really helps make my warmer temps clothing more versatile so I can wear those things more often. I'm a pear so anything crew neck or turtle neck are big no no's.
❤❤❤
Love your looks but I live in Florida and have to convert them to …it’s in the 80s right now
Don't like nor wear any type of turtlenecks. Don't wear mock either. I got tired of stretching the neck line of a turtleneck. They make me feel like I am being choked.
You and Steve Jobs😃
🖤
❤u Emily ❤
Cute 😉
I’m wearing my black turtleneck as i watch this… 🤣☹️
What if you're a big chested gal..turtlenecks dont look good
Yeah, this video isn't for us. There's no such thing as a universal clothing item, unfortunately.
i am thinking of moving to Minneapolis from Australia in the future. is it possible to contact you to chat about this?
I'd rather wear white. Less funeral and more happy.
Um, but that's a MOCK neck, NOT a true turtleneck. A true turtleneck is long enough to cover your face, and can be folded down to half its length. I've been looking for a REAL turtleneck for ages, and they are as rare as hen's teeth! I want a 100% cotton (ok maybe with a bit of stretch), in a very thin, "tissue" style. Years ago, Target sold a bunch of these, and I did get some, but I'm kicking myself for not getting more!
You have nice neck. I do not. Therefore, no turtlenecks for me : (
oh im sure this has nothing to do with that fact that emma chamberlain just released a video a couple days ago about the black turtleneck, does it?
Can the screaming noise in the background be removed?
You mean "music," not "screaming noise."
@@theprousteffect9717 Please do not tell me what I mean.
For a very dressy party, wear it with a black velvet maxi skirt and a silver metallic shawl and silver strappy heels. By the way, not everyone appreciates rap music....
