I am just loving your channel. I am 63 and would love for you to make a video on edgy chic for the mature women. I just bought a new home and I have been purging years of "STUFF", and that includes stupid clothing purchases. LOL.
@@EmilyWheatley I second this suggestion. Please think about it. And also think about how you might do a low end/ high end and also perhaps a high comfort vs. low comfort. Those of us plus 60 need to be able to baby the joints etc whilst still looking fabulous. I am enjoying your videos.
Agree completely with all your points. I’ve pursued my style since early teens (I’m 65) with the objective of originality. I suppose classic with edge, and a tiny bit of rebellion is the description, with hair being at the top of the list. I’ve had all styles of hair, but a fierce pixie is my signature. And, black, how I love black. I asked my mom for a black dress when I was 8, and of coarse she said “little girls don’t wear black”… I was so disappointed. 😉
There is a picture of me when I was 4 or 5 , and I was wearing a shift dress with a mock tneck collar. It was black with taupe polka dots. My mom was so cool about stuff like that. She was a bit of a hippie who said yes whenever she could.(she picked her battles).
❤️ Same age as you and I remember wanting to wear black as a kid (? 10?) and being told no. I finally got a flowered jumper with a black background and thought it was pretty close to good! 😆
I'm turning 55 soon, and I remember a few specific, very loved pieces of clothing from when I was a kid. One was a pair of vertically striped pants - narrow stripes. I think I got these from a neighbor kid when I was 5 or 6? Maybe younger. The stripes were all different colors, primary brights with black. (My older sisters hated them - they wanted me to dress girly, and these pants were not girly, LOL.) When people would ask me which color was my favorite, I would point to different colors and tell them what facet of my "favorite" they fulfilled. Like blue was my happy color, red was my mischief color, etc. I remember specifically that I called yellow my "sharp color." LOL. I still miss those pants! I have been searching for a pair like them ever since I outgrew them.
Your hair is what has me hooked. It set the stage for everything else. I think you are incredibly stunning and unapologetic. You demonstrate such strength and confidence in your style and presence. You are real and that is why I follow you and watch your channel.
I’m 68 and people often comment on my clothing style by saying “only you can get away with that outfit”. I love being different whether it’s considered on trend, outdated, classic or quirky. I wear what I like.
The risk with those types of those comments is that they can be used as "backhanded compliments" (ie. veiled insults). However, you sound like you are not bothered by this approach and can handle it.
Excellent summary of edgy chic that can be applied to any style! My parents were hairdressers and told me to get a good haircut and good shoes and I will always be chic! I add jewellery and monochrome to these 2 components.
Over time, I’ve figured out that if I wear two of one color, they might not match or might clash, but if you wear 3 of one color, they blend and look great.
I love black now thanks to your channel. I thought I was washing myself out more since I’m fair-skinned. Navy blue is still my favorite go-too. It’s close enough to black. Love the monochrome look. Thank you for making these videos. I am learning how to find my style while also whittling down my wardrobe to have only things that make me feel put-together and edgy…at 52.
Totally agree about having great hair. I am 60 and have always had an edgy haircut, my current one being a bowl cut with undercut sides and back (together with my natural grey hair that I love!) I always say to my hair stylist, “I might be 60 but don’t give me an old lady cut!”
I couldn't agree more with what you said about a good haircut. I'm 44 and I've had so many different styles over the years, but the ones which make me feel my most confident are the more edgy ones. Currently rocking an undercut bowl style, and absolutely loving it.
On the past few years I traveled a fashion journey; started a capsule/mindful wardrobe and changed my style a lot from colourful/feminin/sporty, to chic/clean/sporty. Because of you I am on my way to some kind of edge in my style and I love it🥰 thanks for your inspiration 😘
Another on point video Emily. You create epic content...and thank you for mentioning Phoebe on Friends...I loved her style too along with her silly cat songs ;). Also a huge Thank You for featuring me on your My comments on Your Style video last week. I couldn't believe it!!! I didn't comment on the video as I was in transit and flat out work wise but I was super pumped about it💜. And yes to the importance of hair and hair cut and colour. As one wise hairstylist explained to me when I was young...you can change your clothes daily but you wear your hairstyle every day. They were wise words.😉
Wow! I just found your channel. Great style points as ALWAYS!!!! Would you consider doing a video on stylish/edgy/classic rain outfits? Recently went on a trip to a walking city during a tropical storm. The rain was a warm (80 degrees)steady shower so we still went out (had to eat of course!). I found it challenging to still look and feel put together while being practical. Rain boots with a shirt dress? 🤷🏻♀️. Thanks ☺️
Owww Emily, you inspire me so much. uptil now I was inspired by french chic ladies, quite classic and stylish. I learnt a lot of them about style. But: Now that my face is getting older in my fifties, I feel my appearance with that style is too stern, too classic. Seeing your videos suddenly I get it, how to style myself in a way that I feel I get my edge again, feeling strong and happy and playful. Not like Emily Wheatley but like my own new edgy me!
FANTASTIC video Emily! It’s like you were in my head, agree with all! Loved your Phoebe reference, she’s not a character you’d immediately think of when thinking edgy chic but you’re absolutely right! Thanks for the tips, I do follow many already, however due to lockdowns here in Ontario , I’ve been cutting my own hair for nearly two years now😩 Some cuts have been better than others😏 Cheers from Canada🇨🇦
I hear that, I just got my hair cut professionally for the first time in over a year and a half. I do think DIY haircuts can be great as well. Thanks for sharing with us Noeline!
Black is a great look, I see many wearing black and it is not their color. I would love to wear black, but people always ask me if I am feeling all right. Or ask me if I am sick. I have a spring color pallet and black is not a color of a Spring person.
I can't wait for my next haircut, it's in a few days. I used to go for a full year without cutting my hair and no matter how much I changed what I wore I felt I always looked the same. In my case, hair length is key. I have to make sure I don't have it up all the time because it definitely takes away from my style. Loved the video, great advice as always ♥️
I have been cutting my own hair for a few years but miss my barber ( she died two years ago). I cut my hair in a bob right before I went to her because so many stylists are afraid to take off length. She used the shape of my head and the natural wave of my hair and gave me a cut that kept its shape for six months. First time ever I trusted the person who cut my hair. Like a good mechanic and dentist…finding one that’s honest and exceptional is nearly impossible.
It's my first time on your channel so thanks for mentioning stuff you obv mentioned in other videos before :D instant sub! I'd love to hear more about haircuts for different faceshapes from you and how to counterbalance different cuts, even I you wear a soft/feminine/not edgy cut

Hi Emily! I totally agree with all of your hacks and love your style in general! We have lots in common stylewise. Ofc you are waaay more stylish and cool than me but I think we have quite same wavelenght with this topic. Oh yes hair is totally a big thing. I am so glad I chose to start dye my hair in 2017. I like to have purple/violet/burgundy hair that's my thing (and since I cannot style it and I have lots and lots of it it's nice to have some oomph if you will with it). Love to mix femininity, classic timeless style and edgy chic (with a hint of sporty because comfort and Finland's weather) and always wearing only pieces I feel very, very comfortable in (I am a hsp so I have to take care of that aspect at all times). Dresses and statement earrings have always been very me and I like to have spesific materials and cuts in clothing items. Wearing all black is my go-to since day one. Only on my wedding day I chose to wear purple gown with nude and black to make it extra special. I have been wearing black on black since my teenage years (I think I was around 14 years old then and I am 30 now) and it's still feels home to me I know I'm gonna wear black to day when it's my time to decompose. Now I'm interest in to incorporate some deep dark jewel tones like night forest green, midnight blue and wine / burgundy red to my black wardrobe. I feel home in my current style but feeling curious to have something new to spice it up a little since I nowadays know what I like to wear and why. I'm quite new here and sooo happy I found my way here 'cos have been looking someone sharing edgy chic style content for awhile and you are the only one I found to be what I'm looking for. So thank you so much for being here and making videos so well! You seem to be very nice person
I think I am you or you are me! That’s me in a nutshell sporty edgy(although I really want to express it more) chic! And I haven’t heard that term garçon in a very long time! I wore demi-garçon haircuts throughout my childhood. However at the same time I grew up having to wear dresses everywhere and catholic school uniforms! Jeans were for the rebellious kids….ya know! And being catholic and Asian and a mom and wife, I always feel like I have to look conservative and feminine. C’est la vie 🫠
Love the video. I do not agree that black enhances skin color (in all cases). I am in my 60's, so I have lost much of the color in my skin, lips etc. When I wear black, I have to enhance my makeup more that I like. However I do have a lot of black, I just can't put it near my face without adding something with color. Still I took a lot away from your video so I am glad I found your channel.
So good! Because of another of your videos - the hair / shoes sandwich video - I cut my hair. I had been wearing it up, a la Helena Bonham, but I got what you were saying, and cut it off. Myself. I have a method, and have been cutting it myself for years. It’s a shortish shag and I look fantastic. It was just what I needed! ;0) Thanks!
Hi! Another fab video, but of course!! 🤩 Could you please tell me where to find a cardigan like, or similar, to the one you are wearing? Thanks, babe. Amy xo 😘
Really enjoy you and your content! Haircuts matter. I now have a grey pixie since I grew it out and then had it chopped. New stylist gives me a great style.
What's your thought on leggings as pants? I'm very comfortable in skinny jeans but when I try to wear leggings as pants I feel naked and super underdressed.
I'm not usually a massive fan. But I do like athletic leggings as pants sometimes because they have more structure and compression so they feel flattering and more like pants. I totally hear you though, for the most part, I'm not a believer in leggings as pants.
well wow...Emily I just cannot believe I've found your channel after literally years of browsing you tube and insta, and feeling like so many content creators don't quite speak to my style, some get very very close - @karenbritchick who I adore but mostly I feel like I can't find someone who feels the same way I do about style. Then along you came tonight, when I was browsing as usual.... A huge huge thank you for being what I have been looking for for such a long long time!
Hey Emily, you have nailed it again! I love black and monochrome. I was definitely one of those people who thought, you either have edge or you don't but after watching your video I am ready to make some changes. Thanks for all the helpful tips and hacks, you always inspire me to try out different things. Love love love your channel xx CindyN
Intentionality and complimentary accessorizing, not # of pieces, breaks the mainstream mold! No shade on stylistic mininalism, but that's trending now. I'm glad that you gave an example of chic maximalism♡
Loving your work but I would say, after dressing women to best flatter them for 45 years ,is that as much as I love it, black does not suit everyone's skin tone and I work hard to encourage many folk away from it, particularly those with low contrast features. In Australia this makes it hard to find great basics because it seems our relatively small population means our options are limited. Taupe or beige or navy can all work for edgy chic neutrals when black doesn't suit.
I can't wear black as it makes me look like ima vampire. All washed out, white face. So I add color around my face. I'm a bright, clear color, girl with a bit of edge, if that's possible. On combat boots...they've become much more mainstream so it feels like they've lost some of their 'edge'.
You could be right there, definitely become more mainstream these days. But still a good piece for adding contrast to a look. Thank you for sharing with us Ann.
UA-cam keeps sending me these 3 yr old vids where you had hair. I gasped the first time I saw your hair back. You look so pretty with hair. With little hair and those hard-edged clothes you look hard and stark. I don't think you are!
Wow, you're STILL leaving mean comments on Emily's hair? The whole channel is about EDGY fashion, you can find sweet, soft, pretty fashion just about everywhere else.
I think The color black is very over rated. It drains the face of color - esp for those over 40. Lots of stylists suggest navy or gray as a softer and more flattering alternative.

I'm quite new here and sooo happy I found my way here 'cos have been looking someone sharing edgy chic style content for awhile and you are the only one I found to be what I'm looking for. So thank you so much for being here and making videos so well! You seem to be very nice person
Thank you for such an inspiring and comprehensive video. This was one of the BEST
Yay! Glad it was helpful!
Yes please do one for 60 plus. No one thinks I’m 60 and I love to be classy chic. However shoes are hard to find I think
I will add to my list for sure :-)
Another GREAT video....thank you.
Thank you Mac!
Black! YAS!
Yas Suzy!!
Looking gorgeous as always sister!! And loving the definition of chic ;)
I love the blue suit btw - my fav!
Ahhh thanks Sister! I appreciate it :-)
Fantastic choice of music 🖤
Thank you!!
Great video love the tips I try not wear all black, but I usually add a bright trench or silk scarf 💛
Yea love that!
@@EmilyWheatley keep up the good work!
You are my wannabe everyday everywhere!
I just discovered your channel. I love your style. And I want your haircut! Lots of love from Germany🤩
Welcome!! Thank you Kriddi! Hello to Germany!
Thank you Linda, glad you got some take aways!
So true for older women. Marilu Henner suggests replace black with navy or gray as we age.
I change into a pale green vampire in black. Can get the mono dark effect in French navy, deep green.
Excellent thank you.
Of course!
You are already helping me 2nd day in! Compliments omg! 😍
Could you please tell me where to find a cardigan like, or similar, to the one you are wearing? Thanks, babe. Amy xo 😘
I haven't found a good replacement, but I am working on it, so will let everyone know as soon as I find it.
You are one cool girl! Love your channel.
Your my favorite teacher. 🍎
Ahh love that! Thank you Dana!
100% on the haircut tip. I always wanted long hair, but at certain length it starts to look meh. Then I go extreme, and chop it off and reset.
Yes, love that!!
Great hacks Emily! I love those high heel booties, suggestions on where I can find similar ones?
Great video! 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!! :-)
Yes yes yes 🙌🏾 just found your channel love it, I vibe 💯 definitely Mpls 🎉
Just found out about your channel. Love your style. Mostly your take on shoes ❤
I am in my early 70s and naturally pale color. EG blonde hair. Do you think black is too overwhelming
Love your casual style! Wish you would get another close buzzcut. It really suits your fine facial features. JMO.
Thank you!! Might do it again in the future, we'll see.
Really enjoy you and your content! Haircuts matter. I now have a grey pixie since I grew it out and then had it chopped. New stylist gives me a great style.
Love that Jan!!
Trying to figure out how I can get my curly hair edgy chic? I think I’ll check Pinterest and call my hairdresser.
Your intro is bomb !
Thank you! :-)
When it comes to hair, you are a minimalist, too
What's your thought on leggings as pants?
Ahhhh Yay!! That makes me so happy to hear! Welcome to the channel and thank you for your lovely comment!
Hi Emily! I've been obsessed with your leather choker (it's leather, right? Lol). Please share where I can get it!! Lol
It's is from roztayger.com and it's actually recycled leather, so you're right :-)
@@EmilyWheatley no longer available :( but what a cool brand! I love their (edgy) jewelry designs! Thanks, Emily, for sharing! Appreciate it!😊
Wait, is it the bracelet? Whaaat?? Omg, just figured it out🤦♀️😅
Great tips. I fear you are right about the hair too. Darn it, maybe I should make more effort.
It does make a difference! But in the end it's your choice. Maybe just styling it a bit different can work too.
When you went to black and I saw The Anna Edit, laughed, so good
Hey Emily, you have nailed it again! I love black and monochrome. I was definitely one of those people who thought, you either have edge or you don't but after watching your video I am ready to make some changes. Thanks for all the helpful tips and hacks, you always inspire me to try out different things. Love love love your channel xx CindyN
That is so great Cindy! I'm glad that you're a believer now ;-) And so happy you find the videos helpful!
Intentionality and complimentary accessorizing, not # of pieces, breaks the mainstream mold! No shade on stylistic mininalism, but that's trending now. I'm glad that you gave an example of chic maximalism♡
🖤🖤🖤
Speaking of counterpoints, I think chic is looking effortless but intentional.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loving your work but I would say, after dressing women to best flatter them for 45 years ,is that as much as I love it, black does not suit everyone's skin tone and I work hard to encourage many folk away from it, particularly those with low contrast features. In Australia this makes it hard to find great basics because it seems our relatively small population means our options are limited. Taupe or beige or navy can all work for edgy chic neutrals when black doesn't suit.
I think hair is so important with style. That long, I didn’t do anything with my hair look is not stylish at all. No edge to that.
😍
Very beautiful pair of shoes
Thank you!
New here.
Welcome Helen!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
:-)
Right about black….
Black = sophistication = edgy.
You have a beautiful face and can pull any hair cut off.
:-)
I think The color black is very over rated. It drains the face of color - esp for those over 40. Lots of stylists suggest navy or gray as a softer and more flattering alternative.
