I have been in a fashion rut for several years due to my weight. I have recently lost 60 pounds and ready for a change. So glad that I found your videos!

I stopped the vidéo mid way and ran to my closet to try on dresses with pants. So. Much. Fun!

Fashion funk I like that because sometimes I feel like throwing away everything that I have and just have one pair of pants one shirt 14 pairs of panties and one pair of shoes

I like to find long cardigans and cut off the sleeves. Now it’s a vest. Yay !!!

Yes, jeans under dresses. I have been doing this for years. I would buy a dress online, to realize it was too short for my liking. However I liked the look, so I would wear jeans under it. Now I also wear jeans with long shirt dresses. I leave it open to make it look like a duster. I've even embraced sweaters over long dresses. All of this adaptation and playfulness has extended my summer clothing into the colder months.

The jeans with dresses thing is just coming back around. We were doing this 15-20 years ago. Everyone should do what they like - with the democratization of fashion, every style is available for exploration.
I also think that when we are feeling overwhelmed or uninspired, we can strategically retreat and limit ourselves for awhile until we gain clarity. A fashion restricted diet of simple monochromatic garments can help to recenter ourselves.

I am into the unconventional layering trend: trying a short jacket over a longer one for instance. This is also a practical solution for colder days as I don't want to invest in long winter coat. Layering is so important if, like me,you want to travel with only a carry on and small backpack!

I am living with a bare-bones wardrobe right now, so the moods of accessories are what I am all about. And it's time for cold weather accessories, too!

Scarves are my go to for inspiring me to create outfits and help me mix colours.

Focusing on my hair and adding some little pieces (gold hand band) and also practicing my makeup more has helped me feel so much better! I even took an eye makeup class. I’m feeling quite good style wise thanks to you! I’d say one of my biggest issues was decision fatigue and I just recently wore the same outfit/version of for a week. It felt great to get such a return on my investments not to mention I picked items I was physically comfortable in. I recently did a massive closet clean out. This helped!

I'm finding the multicultural dress now happening where I live.....deep south of Australia....lots of African, Indian, Arabic people wearing traditional outfits....really frees up my fashion sense and delight in different mixes and layering...started the dresses over jeans at least ten years ago because of this..sort of a modest girly look when contrasted with the jeggings and super tight jeans which had been popular at the time....

Since cutting my hair really short it has dictated my new style so it's easier to choose outfits and create a look.

I love your sweater vest with that striped turtleneck. I have several sweater vests and needed a new way to wear them for fall/winter. I like denim & button up shirts under them. I also love stripes and have several, not sure why I didn’t think of putting that together too. My style is classic with more of a sporty/preppy slant but very much love your edgy touch. Thank you for so many great ideas & tips.

The hair thing: I once again felt like I wanted to grow my hair longer. And even though this happens everytime I try growing out my hair, this was the first time I full on realized that this always throws me into a fashion funk. Nothing feels right anymore, nothing looks the way I want it to look, getting dressed isn't fun anymore, stuff like that. Even doing my make up isn't joyful anymore. And the moment I realized it, I cut my hair back to my original pixie cut. (It's similar to yours, but I wear the top down instead of back, very texturized and piecy.) And guess what? Instant relief. I suddenly felt like myself again and didn't have to think twice what I wanted to wear. Sometimes I wonder why I keep going through this by myself. Like why do I think I need to grow my hair out when I just really love the short hair and it just feels like myself? I hate having hair that covers my neck, touches my shoulders and moves too much. I hate hair in my face (besides bangs) and I also don't like updos. So in what world does it make sense to grow my hair out? In none, really. And of course hair play a huge role in our overall style. Especially when it's like a very specific hairstyle that you wear.

Couldn’t say it better myself. I just got back from my hair stylist with my favorite short, short haircut, and I feel like a million (billion?) bucks!! Thank you for articulating this so beautifully. Thank you, Emily, for your edgy style and inspiration! I can’t stop bingeing your videos!! 😘❤️🙌🫶💪👏

I worked at wet seal in the early 2000’s while I was in my 20’s, for 8 years. In 2002/3 I wore dresses over denim all the time and sold it that way pretty often! Some people were so confused but I felt so cool 😎

Great tips! All my life I've rarely felt comfortable in my clothes. I was after a unique look that I didn't know how to get. Self expression and being different in some way has always been my goal. I bought something that was unique without thinking about what I'd wear it with and ended up frustrated daily because I had a ton of clothes and nothing to wear. I've recently gotten rid of a lot sticking with my fav colors, neutrals and I'm already feeling better. However, I've changed sizes recently and need a lot of new things because I don't like what I have. Since I can't afford a lot I'm looking for good quality things on Ebay and make mistake after mistake. Just got a few good things. At this point I don't know what to do. That was in a nutshell and if you have any thoughts/ideas I'm all ears! Thanks for all your inspiration!!

I’m sorry if I’m stating the obvious but really great accessories might help for now. I also struggle with eBay, and I’m petite with a small frame, so choices can be limited. But luckily I love scarves, and use them to introduce different colours and textures etc. In Summer, I use earrings.
But it might be totally different for you.

Make sure you have your basics. Often, when people have a lot of clothes but nothing to wear, it's because they have all of the fun stuff but not enough basics to anchor the pieces. I totally agree about experimenting with unique accessories, but also look into styling tweaks like knotting shirts, cuffing (etc,) as well as alterations/tailoring. Clothes that fit perfectly can look more expensive.

I found a crisp white men’s tuxedo shirt at Goodwill. I wear it with leggings, jeans and skirts. I also will wear a scarf with it instead of the classic bow tie. I love it!

Faux hawk your hair for a change. You may need to tweak the hawk a little for your current cut, but I think it would be edgy, fun, and look amazing on you! The secret is ultra hold gel and a good root powder.

Trying something different with my hair - have been buzz cutting it myself for a couple of years now but today have gone very short at the back and sides with a view to growing out the top, inspired by you! Will test drive it for a couple of weeks to see how it goes (while wearing a dress over my jeans!)
