- One of the victims of the pandemic was Virgin Australia's long-haul fleet. We flew on their 777 to Los Angeles just a month before it never took to the skies again.

Virgin Australia was already in difficulties before the COVID emergency and was unable to survive in its existing form. It was sold and the new owners have simplified its fleet and are concentrating on domestic services with a few nearby international destinations. My son flew on their 777 to LA shortly after they started that service and found it very comfortable.
Same situation with South African Airways, but only 51% was sold to a private investor, while our government still has the rest of 49%. Focused ,but still struggling with domestic flights with minimal international flights.
Then what happened to Virgin Atlantic? It’s a variant of Virgin Australia.
@@superbrownsheep3777 Virgin Atlantic was a different company. The connection is that Branson owned a share of both companies and they both flew under the Virgin name. Virgin Australia under its new ownership and its simplified fleet is reviving its domestic routes and a few shorter international routes.
My dad works for virgin and used to fly 777's and a330's. Him and I are pretty sad that he's now stuck with 737's(although they are still good planes).
@@TheAussieAviator747 Yes it's a pity VA has abandoned its longer international routes. Qantas should have Australian competition. Fortunately there's plenty of international competition to keep us out of Qantas' clutches.
The joys of flying west to east across the International Date Line, and the jet lag can hit hard
VA long haul will be so missed in the Australian market. Can’t believe the entire 777 and A330 fleet are no longer. It was interesting to see the UA and DL on the taxiway during takeoff as all would’ve been chasing each other to LAX over the Pacific.
Why Va has arrested them ( 777 and a330 ) ? Covid-19 ?

At the beginning of this year, i went out to Toowoomba for a little vacation and apart of that was we went to WTB (Toowoomba Wellcamp) and we saw a motherload of abandoned aircrafts. 5 Virgin B777s & a few TigerAir B737s. I was shocked to see them but it was incredible to stand next to them in their final months of sitting there. On July 11th when I was driving back into brisbane after a road trip to Darwin, i saw only 1 Virgin B777 was there ...
Wait so they are bankrupt or not flying any more gosh I didn’t even get a chance to fly
@@SirCooper that would’ve been an interesting sight. To think what the pandemic has done to airlines is unbelievable.
The 777-300ER is the workhorse of every airline
Its the 737-800 for VA
Amenity kit in Economy is just simply appreciated
The Boeing 777 of Virgin Australia was really really nice and comfortable!! Very sad they don’t have them anymore!
Where are they?
@chuck aule You win youtube for today
@chuck aule Yeah the virgin pendolino in uk lmao
@@sallubhai4656 Some of the 777s were sent to Emirates, but the seat and cabin design were (hopefully) still kept.

I hope you enjoyed your stay in Sydney, very happy to see you in one of our very one Australian carriers!
Its great to see 777's with 9 across instead of 10 which most airlines have now.
I remember taking this flight back in 2018 on my first solo USA holiday, loved it then, I hope virgin Australia gets back or close to what they were soon. And a nice video too 😊

Don’t worry they are prob soon in 2024 or 2025 maybe in 2023 idk because after their order of 737 max 8 they will order widebody aircraft like 777 a330 and others
I flew VA's 777 roundtrip twice in premium economy between LA and Sydney, nost recently in September of 2019. Their onboard catering was fantastic, and it was the best service on the route compared to UA or AA.
As an Australian we can tell that Virgin Australia is a good airline to fly on.
I was on that exact same flight...a month later on March 16th. It was a totally different world then. We were on a world cruise that abruptly ended in Perth. We flew from Perth to Sydney then onto LA and then final leg into Boston. 24 hours on planes. We scored bulkhead seats on the Syd-LA leg. I missed the hot dog snack (sleeping). The IFE was awful. The video and voice weren't synced. The crew was fabulous, who knew then they were just weeks away from losing their jobs. Thanks for posting this.
ohHHH NO! what happened with your guys fare? did you get refunded for the rest of the trip... I have so many questions as im deciding ti go on one soon.
@@jamesgeorge7053 we did get our money back equal to the value of the rest of the cruise. They also paid for our entire trip back plus the shipment of our luggage.
Superior legroom, very good catering and all the rest quite acceptable. I'd call this a better than average flight.
Love the GE90 startup, and then the CX A350 landing in front of you - I'd taken the CX A350 (and then 773) to the US from SYD in Dec 2019. It is a pity we lost VA on international, but at least the ariline survived and is growing domestically again. The main meal looked good, but you can barely call that a beer :P
Awesome trip report. So sad to see their 777s and 330s gone
One of the most memorable flights I took was this same route and airline. Really a great experience all around.
Thank you for this review. The VA long haul fleet will be greatly missed here in Australia.
Great report David. Been looking forward to this one ever since the Delta trip report. I really miss VAs 777s.
Your video enables me to imagine myself in the airplane. Really missed flying very much. Thanks for the video.
Surprisingly it has 9 seats a row, making it much more comfortable!
This is the first time i'm seeing a flight route going through the opposite side of the earth
I've been waiting for this for so long!!! I saw the brutally honest but i was looking for the trip report!!! Thanks for the conversion!
really sad, the pandemic was so bad airlines like this one and norwegian even ceased entire long haul operations :(
Great video. The presentation and knowledge is the best.
I did a round trip LAX SYD on this very plane a couple years ago! Thanks for the memories! And I flew Delta on their 777-200 as well.
Both great flights, service, comfort! Did the same trip on AA, not so much!
Fantastic Trip Report Mate!!!
Hi
Fond memories of this service when it was relatively newer in 2014, and the other trip back with Delta
I am from LA and quite suprised to see LAX not busy even though it is 5:45 AM
Great Video BTW
your videos are fantastic. thank you for posting
RIP Virgin 777
I think it’s very clever that when you see an airline in the background of the video out the window, you put a link in the upper right hand content if you’ve done a TripReport on that airline. Small but Amazing detail!
its always fun to watch these trip reports , its interesting :) i'd recommend you do a trip report from Hyderabad to london Heathrow XD
Can we just take some time and appreciate the way the air hostess’s announcement into LA.
Great video :D
great report again david!
btw i was hoping you could do another malaysia airlines tripreport cause ima malaysian and i would really appreciate it
Miss virgin Australia B777 ….🥺
At 3:07
Also note that they retired all their A330-200s too.
Couldn't they just sell those planes to another airline? Way better than retiring them.
@@GracemarieJohnson2763 pretty sure the A330-200s returned to some other airline.
@@ludwigtails I hope so. Lending those planes to another airline is WAY better than retiring them altogether.
Amazing video!😸
Great flight. Can't imagine the jetlag when flying across International Date line.
Me either. The jet lag must've hit David and the other passengers like a truck.
Hey Simply Aviation! I have been watching your content since a long time! You really entertain me! Can't wait for you to get a million subs!
Very Nice aviation
That little hotdog is hilarious!
Nice content, i love it
So jealous you did the ocean landing into LAX!
Interesting !
G'day from Adelaide Australia love that flight
Great video
Damn I can’t even remember a day I have spent going around without a mask
Best times right there
Love the theme song
Very nice aviation
The 777 is my favourite aircraft type. It's just sad to see them retire so soon.
I missed going into Kingsford Smith International airport
it's so convenient.
Very nice flying 777 300
@5:25 And I've never had one of those inside-the-arm mounted audio ports where I didn't press my leg against it and snap the prongs off in the socket. You'd think they'd learn not to place them there.
3-3-3 on 777-3 streets won’t forget virgin long haul
I can't believe they are gone. This is news to me. I was a Velocity platinum member for 4 years during my sales/service tech role and I loved flying that plane to LA. The on board service was exceptional. They even took my meal oder before departure as did Etihad to the UAE. Really miss that and even more so they have been sold off.
O.m.g my favourite plane
I once flew with these guys on a 737-800 from CBR to OOL
I would be scared to make this trip in that plane and end up Lost in a crazy Island :D
I have a friend that has a condo near the runways at LAX. I noticed very late at night and during the predawn hours they land over the ocean as you did on this flight. Normally, during the daytime hours they land over the 405 freeway from the east. All my years flying into LAX I never knew this until I spent the night at his place. I loved the sounds of the jets landing as I slept. I know that is very weird. I would just wake up for a second and wonder what part of the world is that plane coming from?
Hi David,love your videos!
Can you do a trip report from Mozambique with
LAM Mozambique Airlines :)
Already filmed it, will be posted in early 2022! :)
Thanks!
What the heck! He recorded this 1 day after my birthday! No wonder I like aviation...
The train from Central to the Airport’s is great except it cost something like $25 one way
7 bucks buddy
I remember making the skip across the pond from Sydney to LA with Virgin in 2019.
Had my phone connected to the planes WiFi and the first thing I noticed when connected to American UA-cam was Bernie Sanders asking me for financial support.
Nice
I am partial to Qantas (better food etc.) but I have to say, the 3-3-3 config. here is impressive. Gotta hand it to VA (RIP).
❤️❤️❤️❤️
12:38 The juice is in Greek...for no reason i am a little bit more happy now 😂😂
I tried lot airlines b787-8 dreamliner krk-chicago. And my IFE good but my brothers didint work so well on the 10 hour flight full but then they worked it out
Cool
.
Went I Saw Cebu Pacific A330 New Livery And Delta B777-200LR
In all flights
Ay the Meriton is like the only decent hotel in australia
My brother is flying London-Atlanta tomorrow and paid $47 for a rapid test in Heathrow. I Flew Riga,Latvia to Istanbul on Sept 16 and paid 24 euros for a rapid test in Riga Airport. I think those tests will stay forever as will masks.
No mask ! 😳😍
how do you do you get to go these trips
That cute Hot Dog🥺
6:45 Cebu Pacific 👀
The food looks pretty good. Why don't you guys show the magazines anymore?
Hey David how often do you guys fly? When you arrive at your destination are you able to make a little trip out of it? Thanks in advance.
We fly more than 100 times per year and most of the times we are able to explore the city we are visiting a bit... :)
It's sad to see a generally solid international product like this disappear.
😉🔥
David, makes a flight within Brazil with Azul Linhas Aéreas.
Only option out of Melbourne 4 a direct flight is Qantas & United which I’m not a fan of! I will say air New Zealand is a good choice to fly with via Auckland!
Is it bar on airplanes free?
Three of the fleet still here in Toowoomba...... sitting wasting away.... terrible sight
No more virgin Australia?
Damn...
Another great trip Report! Hey just Notice that the subtitle option is not available, any option to solve this on non speach audio Video? I am sure that some Will appreciate that, son you can reach more people on your Videos specially those from Latin America.
15:00 You still have 5+ hours to catch up to yourself. Flying BACK in time is great; it's when you fly AHEAD, that's what kills ya.
Please make a video on vistara airlines.
Conveniently left out the fact it costs $18-20 to travel to the airport from the city by train.
Boeing 787-9 dreamliner Vietnam airlines :3
Isn't that the plane from infinite flight aswell
Ok so I flew MEL > LAX 2017 with Virgin Australia on economy, and I am pretty sure I wasn't offered any amenity kit nor hot dog snack...
Was it just me or was I just not aware at the time?
Please do a trip report on QTR Airways Montreal - Doha
Do you try Vietnam airlines from Ho Chi Minh to San Francisco?
2:12 Vietnam airlines
I thought the Delta 777-200LR got retired
I flew Singapore - San Francisco in February 2020 and they too asked me if I had been to Central China... I haven't but I wonder if they'd put me in quarantine or something if I said yes or made me do covid test on the spot 🤔.
When was this because b777 D doesn't fly right?
