  • In this eye-opening video, Joe from Plant-Based News takes a deep dive into the misconceptions surrounding the carnivore diet. He dissects the claims made by carnivore diet enthusiasts and uncovers the real truths behind this diet's so-called "mythical healing" properties.
The video delves into personal testimonies, like that of Michaela Peterson, who claimed remission from ulcerative colitis through the carnivore diet.

Absolutely. Gut health is mostly about feeding the microbiome and consistency. So youll want to eat an abundance of high fibre plant foods and keep your diet relatively similar each day. Avoid sudden, drastic changes in diet because the microbiome becomes optimized for what you consume on a consistent basis.

When going on a meat based diet, people need to consume fat. Fat is needed to not just provide energy, but help with digestion.
One shoukd never go on a low fat meat based diet.
Animal fat is also good to help with the regulation of hormones.

Too much liquid fat on a meat based diet will give you the runs as it acts like a laxative.
What works for me is adding congealed animal fat (left over grease/ juices taken from the refrigerator) to whole fat yogurt and adding pieces of ruminant meat or eggs.
After you lose weight on the meat based diet, you especially need to consume fat in your diet because you body has already used up all of your fat stores to use as energy.

The result is that often this one meal is enough for the entire day. And by default I am intermittent fasting the rest of the time.
If I'm going to work out, I either do it first thing in the morning before eating, or eat a fat based smaller meal an hour before working out and then a normal meal afterward.
Regardless, my arthritis is gone, and I have constant energy. I feel great, and people have complimented me on how good I look.
I'm currently getting close to 50 yrs old and the roles that I have been cast in the last two community theatre plays were for men in their thirties.

As someone who has had IBS and autoimmune stuff going on for almost 20 years and who has been vegan for 9 years, I have a lot of experience with this. The carnivore diet works because of what they leave out, they're throwing the baby out with the bath water. It's the sugar, the gluten, and the processed food additives that are the root cause of the problem (and maybe sensitivities to herbicides and pesticides). And because these things are causing chronic inflammation in the intestinal tract, people will develope a myriad of additional specific food sensitivities or allergies which spiral out of that, which will back them into a corner where they feel like they can't eat anything because thier immune system is reacting to it (such as this woman saying she can't eat any spices). I have personal experience with this and I empathize with this. But what they don't realize is that the healthy plant foods aren't the root cause of the problem. If they ate an organic whole food plant based diet and removed all the inflammatory food, their gut would heal, and they would have the freedom to slowly reintroduce some of those foods back in. Fasting also works wonders with anything autoimmune related because it's a reset for your system. It's sad because now they think they have to kill animals and eat a bunch of saturated fat and cholesterol to sustain themselves, and such a restrictive and unhealthy way to be living long term.

You need to check the latest research because everything you just said is provably false. Dietary cholesterol has no effect on heart disease. The best gut outcomes are on zero fibre. The research you're referring to is epidemiology - which can inform on association but not causation, you then need to do actual science to test if the association is causal and every time they do this it comes up negative. 80-90% of the cholesterol in your blood is manufactured by your liver, so if your serum cholesterol is high then you need to look at the actual cause (usually excessive consumption of carbohydrates from plants - the actual amount required by the human body being zero).
Nitrogen isotope testing shows that humans (and predecessors) ate a 90%+ carnivore diet for 4 million years. Most of the "vegetables" in the supermarket are less than 10,000 years old, most as few as 1-2000 years old and created by humans, I don't know how anyone can come to the conclusion that foods created entirely by humans less than a couple of thousand years ago are "natural" or appropriate. The next thing is that even "organic" food does use pesticides and other methods to prevent (,e.g. kill) animals trying to eat those veg/fruit. The death toll of a "vegan" diet is orders of magnitude greater than any meat eaters.
Ancel keys has a lot to answer for that people are still regurgitating his propaganda decades later.

    Really good perspective
I have ulcerative colitis, tried a few diets, and the more restricted I did them, the more vulnerable and sensible I became.
    This argument is on point.
Today, I'm doing a variety of plant based, whole foods, to build my microbiome long term, that is, in my understanding, THE THING that truly helps to get colitis into remission.
And this, can take YEARS, from my experience.
Oh Lucca, but it can't possibly take years to heal. All I can say, is that it can.
Sometimes, we have done so much poor eating in the first years of our life's (20 or 30 years), that it can truly be a challenge for us to change our microbiome and awaken the healing potential within.
Stop the overactive degenerative process and give the body what it needs to be able to reverse the process (sometimes, the time taken is long because we just don't have sufficient vital energy to begin to heal and detox.)
It's a complex theme, but the simple answers that I've found is that healing is possible, by facing what we need to face and building up our resilience and adaptative process over time.
    VARIETY IS KEY! 🎉
You have to be consistent and relate with many other health factors, all orchestrating in conjunction with a healthy diet.
Exclusions, being fruit based (which I did) or carnivore based (which I didn't) only limits us long term.
We have to face the pain, face the problem, and power our gut resilience over time.
    Great video!
    Much love ❤

    I researched, and researched.
Sum of the research was get rid of foods that give your body any inflammation...ie eat a plant based diet.
I did. It still took a year to go into remission. But that was 5+ years ago now. Still in remission I take NO medication, and I eat almost any kind of plants I want. Only limiting black beans to small amounts. Life is amazing now.

So can you please tell me which foods gave you inflammation? It's been 42 years since I got my large intestine removed due to ulcerative colitis. I was diagnosed colitis in 1974. No cause for the development of the UC was ever found in my case. Now I have problems digesting high fiber foods such as nuts, seeds, coconut, bran, raw vegetables, pickles, coleslaw and sauerkraut. My diet is mostly mashed potatoes, bananas, cake, toast, meatloaf, noodle soup, quick instant oatmeal, pudding, ice cream, milkshakes, yogurt, spaghetti and meat sauce, pancakes, perogies, eggs & pork chops, applesauce, hamburgers, fries, cheese & buns. My colitis was cured in 1981 when they removed my large intestine and replaced it with an ileostomy bag. However, now most vegetables except for potatoes and yams bother me. I also had iritis in 1990. Now I have hypothyroidism and I often get sinus infections. I'm overweight and far from healthy.

When you increase your fiber, your body reacts with gas and bloating because your microbiome has been deprived of fiber prior to this. Once the microbiome adjusts the gas and bloating go away, but most people quit before that happens and conclude that high fiber foods are bad. I like the analogy that when you exercise your muscles get sore, therefore exercise is bad.

It's not just the absence of sugar and processed foods that creates the false impression of healing. It's the confusion of cause and effect. I used to believe that beef was one of the few foods I could eat without all sorts of inflammatory symptoms (rashes, respiratory issues, bloating, etc.). I became allergic or sensitive to more and more plant foods. Most noticeable was wheat, but also then corn, potatoes, tomatoes, buckwheat, and sometimes I never figured it out which exact ingredient was causing a problem. But, possibly excepting wheat or some additive to wheat, those weren't the cause of the inflammation. Animal products were the cause.
How do I know based on the science? Inflammatory markers have been found to correlate very strongly with consumption of animal proteins.
How do I know based on my own experience? After I adopted a vegan diet, mostly whole foods, I discovered that I could gradually tolerate more of these foods that I had developed sensitivities to. Now (almost 4 years in) I can eat as many potatoes, tomatoes and corn as I want, with no negative effects. I'm hopeful about being able to include more wheat and buckwheat eventually, but since the effects of those were so strong, I'm not doing that yet. Meanwhile, many of my chronic issues that were based on inflammation (asthma, psoriasis, chronic pain, and obesity) have greatly improved since I went vegan. What was happening is that I didn't realize that the animal products were creating the inflammation that made me so sensitive to more and more plant foods. This is what I believe these people are doing, too. (Though I have very little sympathy for Peterson anymore. She's too arrogant and harmful about spreading her misunderstandings. Just like her dad.)

    • @agreeablegraylife

And the Petersons are a hard case. I have a bunch of sensitivities, too. And I agree about the buckwheat - who needs it. Why work so hard to eat something that hurts, seems wise. Congratulations on getting your digestion back on track. As for me, my homosystein marker is showing healing, and I'm not getting there from plants. I remember MP saying she can't have aged meat. She worked hard for years on getting to the bottom of her root cause of her issues. It's her special path that allows her to actually live. Props to all, whether vegan or carnivore, for taking charge of health! I don't think it matters how we get there, the goal of living our best and healthiest life is the goal that should unite us all against the lies of the food industry.

I have tried both for months at a time, but as a middle aged man, it was only after being on the carnivore diet that I personally experienced (2-4 weeks into the diet) waking every morning with an erection like I did back when I was in my teens and twenties.
I'm a lap swimmer, and had no problem swimming a mile nonstop on both diets.
For health and well being regardless of diet, the important thing is to exclude all processed foods, all seed oils, most sugars.
Many of the plants we consider food today did not exist 100 to 200 years ago in the form found today. They have been modified via selective growing techniques and/ or geneticaly modified techniques. As a result fruits are more sugary, and many individual vegetables were developed/designed from one or two types of vegetable ancestors.
Lastly, if you love your animals, feed them natural foods too; not processed foods. That means feeding your cats a diet that includes raw meat or if cooked meat, but not boiled.

So when we discuss "no one size fit diet" what we are actually referring to is macros. If you choose to still consume meat then it should feature no more than 5 to 10% of your diet and this has been shown I'm the blue zones. I love absorbing as many perspectives as possible. I don't see myself ever going back to plant based. I can tell you why I eat this way :: ended up with severe gastritis, hiatal hernia, IBS and after months of clean eating, I ran out of foods to eat. Out of desperation and the fact that I was losing massive amounts of weight quickly due to not being able to process food, I tried meat and eggs. At least with meat foods, my body can get its nutrients in a dense form. It saved me from wasting away to nothing. I use plants as medicine as needed these days. I can now get away with some plant foods in small quantities on a one at a time basis with a 4 day rotation. That way, I don't get sick again. Grains still sit in the stomach going nowhere and causing havoc. Probably the best diet is a mix of both plants and animals, as we were eating before 1980, and yet here we all are in 2023 arguing over what each other should eat. Hysterical! Eat what gives your individual body its best health, and as its needs change with life unfolding, change with them or suffer. Whatever the science might say on either side, we all do best when we listen to our own bodies, first.

Juicing would probably be the best bet since it takes out most of the fiber. This way you can heal without the issue of pain. You will still poop a fair bit but it will not cause you too much distress. It is an auto immune condition so fasting with water and electrolytes like coconut water and supplements like seamoss, bladderwrack, and burdock root capsules will be very beneficial even sea moss gel!! I am however not a doctor but I did have ibs for a long time and when I was in that phase of eating plant base it vanished for me. The last time i had signs of a gout attack, i went carnivore, straight. My gout attack didn't happen, my anxiety and depressive mood receded, my blood pressure dropped. I don't wake up with headache and nausea like i did the last 12-15years, and i lost 85lbs since January. I don't have anymore pain in my liver, nor my kidneys which used to pinch every now and then.
Meat, salt, fat, water. That's the way to go.

A carnivore put it this way to me: one grass-fed cow would feed one person for a year, living an idyllic life until being humanely killed; a much better deal than any ruminant in the wild. This is versus the 1,000s of insects, rodents and other mammals, and birds unintentionally, but inevitably, killed from a year's worth of plant foods from modern mono-crop practices. I put him in his place and let him know that I don't care how many creatures had to die as long I didn't intentionally kill them. This ain't statistics, buddy!

The natural human diet is a calorie appropriate diet made up of fresh fruits and vegetables some nuts and seeds and water. The further you get from that the less healthy you will be. Humans are animals most closely related to bonobos and chimpanzees. Proof that a human isn’t meant to eat a pig or a cow? Put a live pig or cow in front of a hungry person and start your stopwatch. We aren’t even equipped to take down a live animal of that size and tear into its raw bloody flesh. Does that sound appetizing? Yes you can learn from nature, which we are meant to be a part of rather than its biggest enemy.

Playing the "study" card is a fool's game. Anyone from either end of the diet spectrum can find a study that "proves" their belief. Doing a deep-dive into the details of any study often reveals less than spectacular evidence. Also, studies often are flawed or are biased. Over the years I've done vegan, vegetarian and low carb. No refined carbs or sugar. My dental health improved noticeably when I switched to low carb (not carnivore). Cavities developed when I switched to a highly plant-based diet. Triglycerides and A1C were never better than when I reduce carbs like potatoes, pasta, bread and sweet fruits. I do consume a special low carb bread though. I am on a low carb version of the Mediterranean diet. Fats are mostly MUFAs from fatty fish, nuts, seeds, nut butters, avocado and olive oil. I eat plenty of non-starchy vegetables. It's a very satisfying diet and I only eat two meals per day. I don't get hungry between meals, including the 16 hour period between my last meal of the day to the next day. My doctor is on-board with both low carb and vegetarian diets.
