Vietnam Veteran; I can say; this song gets me. We were looked down on and it took years to feel the pride of our service. I'm proud now. Me and my High School friend joined together, went through Boot Camp together and headed separate ways from there. Bill is buried in the National Cenetery in Leavenworth Kansas.
Well Sir. Don't worry. We in the younger generations know what LBJ and McNamara and others did to you and your brothers over there in that hell on earth. You men ARE HEROES. God Bless You for your service to America and the cause of Democracy. Thank you for your courage and service in Southeast Asia.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice sir. And welcome home 🇺🇸 I turned 21 and 22 in Afghanistan on two back to back deployments from 2012-14. My grandady did 3 tours in Nam as a volunteer. When I was 8 years old I ask him why he didn’t get drafted. Now I had no idea what a draft was or how it worked etc. he said “because all them other boys just like me was getting drafted and going to war and dying. I had to volunteer to go. He wasn’t a college student or important in any way. So it was just a matter of time until till his number was up. But I remember just how proud he was that he was a volunteer. A little over 6 month into his 3rd year/deloyment he caught enough shrapnel and a bullet in the leg to come home. I remember him saying that by that time he was ready to just be home. But his leg would ultimately get him discharged. He walked with a limp the rest of his life and that’s why I served. It’s in my blood.
Before the days of UA-cam, I wanted my dad to see this video. He’s a Vietnam vet. And CMT was hard to line up with his schedule. I used the email on the Montgomery Gentry website and asked where I could view this video so my pop could see it. They generously sent my dad a dvd with the video and a small message thanking him for his service. I’ll never forget that small kindness they did for my old man. He loves this video. And feels it pays proper tribute to all vets who did their job, but weren’t appreciated at the time. ❤️
First of all RIP Troy. You are missed deeply. Eddie, beautiful lyrics and thanks for raising awareness of something that has been ignored for too long. The flag will always fly.
My favorite song grom these guys. As a Iraq vet, it chokes me up with anger at how this nation treated our Vietnam vets. I went the Wall on Memorial Day when I was 15. What I saw that day made sure I enlisted 3 yrs later. My brothers, my uncles, my fathers- thank you and welcome home. You done good. I salute you all.
Who are the messed up people who disliked this song. We should always support our troops. They have fought and died so we can live free, so we can live in this great country of the red white and blue
One of my best and closest brothers is in this video and I remember him being so proud. He told us how well they were treated and how much fun they had. My Brothers name is Dennis Hoffman, but few people knew him by that. Everyone called him "Hooper". That's him in the Red & Black at 3:15. He rode with the VNV/MC out of Ventura, CA. He was wild, He was a bit crazy, He was a damned good dude and he was proud to be a Vietnam Veteran. I am proud that he called me "Brother" and I miss him BIG TIME! Rest In Peace Hooper & Troy.
My father was a vietnam vetran(Marines) who passed away May 28, 2012. I love him and will never forget the sacrifices he made for us. David Royall, Jr. R.I.P.

This is a wonderfully done tribute to our men and women of our military who's sacrifice is the ultimate price for our freedom. My father was a Vietnam vet and I'm proud of him. Lost him 8 years ago and miss him. Very proud to call him my dad.
I relate to this song, I returned to the States to be greeted by prople that had no idea what "we" went through. 35 years later I still can only talk to my "brothers" about that time. I pray that todays Vets won't have to go through that. I am proud of all who were willing to put on the uniform and protect those who didn't or couldn't.
I don't care what the media says, I don't care whom we fight, for what reason, wars of past or future I will support you 120%. I may not be able to join, so I will do what I can back home

My grandfather served in the US Navy during world 2 as did his 3 brothers, they all made it home, i dedicate this to the more than 400,000 Americans who paid the ultimate price in the second world war.

thank you and your brothers and sisters past, present, and future for your sacrifices. too many people fail to remember that freedom isnt free and neglect to show their appreciation to our servicemen and women. so thank you all for your service
This song is a great tribute to our armed forces, and it proves something about MG: Eddie has that voice that makes you listen to him, and Troy is one of the best harmonizers, let alone singers, in today's country music world. Keep it up, MG, LOVE the new song "I'll Keep The Kids!"
This song makes me cry. It played the day I had our baby girl and my husband was deployed. I am a proud wife of a soldier and a proud sister and grand daughter of soldiers. Thank you for all you do
Yesterday, the last American combat unit left Iraq. My cousin, William, gave his life in April 2003 to help make that possible. This song always brings tears to my eyes, cuz it reminds me of him. They are our nation's best. We are free cuz of them....Its that simple.
Here for the music, not the politics. We support our troops, no matter our country. We must respect them and their sacrifice, even if you don't respect the war.
My Uncle is bedridden with MS after serving in Vietnam & being sprayed with Agent Orange. He has been bedridden for over 26+ yrs now. He got a mere $7-8,000.00 in the Agent Orange settlement!?!? I played this song for him & I have never seen the man cry other than we lost both my Grandparents and he couldn't attend the services. But he cried during this song. He tells me stories from Vietnam and I thank God we had men (& women) like him to go over & fight our fights for us.GodblessMuchluv&respec
I just want to say thank you tall the soldiers for serving to keep our freedom. And i respect all of you guys. For all the soldiers who have died may you rest in peace. May god be with you all. For all of those who don't like what all of the soldiers are doing then go enlist for the army and see and actually go thruogh and when its so terrible then mabie you will understand what they go thruogh.
THIS SONG MEANS SO MUCH TO ME AS A VETERAN WITH A LONG LINE A FAMILY WHO HAVE FOUGHT & DIED TO KEEP OUR GREAT NATION THE LAND OF THE FREE THANKS TO THE BRAVE. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN IN THE BATTLEFIELD IN THE SKY...
MY DAD WAS A VEIT NAM VET, HE NEVER EVEN GOT A GUN SALUTE AND I NEVER GOT A FOLDED FLAG. I STILL HOLD HIS NAME UP HIGH!! GOD BLESS OUR VETS AND GOD BLESS THE USA.

I sit here with tears in my eyes for 2 reasons. First, in appreciation, love, and respect for the men and women who have given their all (and even their lives) for this country when called upon to do so. And, secondly, for the tombstone that reads “UNKNOWN”...because he or she WAS known! He or she had a family! He or she WAS LOVED! And, I can guarantee you that, that mother and father, that brother and sister, that husband and wife, that son and daughter, that family, have NOT spent lonely hours, days, YEARS crying for their “UNKNOWN” to come home, or grieving the loss of their special “UNKNOWN”. That “UNKNOWN” had a name! That “UNKNOWN” had a family! That “UNKNOWN” was LOVED!
I thank every vet I see, for what they had to do to protect me, my family, and everything this country stands for. And I feel bad sometimes that some cry because of me doing that. It's hard seeing a grown man cry, but I know they're tears of joy. And this song is a understanding, to a fraction of what these men and women have to go through.
Me U.S. Army 1994-2000, my father U.S. Army 1970-1974 and National Guard 1980-2003. Many other men in my family both sides have served and I wouldn't trade my service for no amount of money. To all who are still carrying the torch of freedom my respect to you all! Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone take time to reflect on the sacrifice made by our military for you.
I lost a cousin from vietnam. even though i was not around nor did i ever know him, its kinda sombering to know i had family lost in a war. thank you troops for what you do, i want to serve one day as well
I’m not crying something is in my eye. After going through combat training at tigerland for a month I can’t imagine going through that for a whole deployment. I nearly cried today because I got a military discount at a Resteraunt I felt I didn’t deserve.
My father was in Vietnam, he has a small collection of medals, purple heart, bronze star and such, he has refused to discuss it ever with me and i respect that as his wishes..
I can relate to this, because I had a girl that I went to school with call me ugly things when she found out I was a Marine. Thank you to all my brothers and sisters in arms past and present!!
My Daddy was a Marine. Served in Vietnam did a couple of tours. I dedicate this beautiful song to him I am proud to be his Daughter. He was called home December 2 2016 at 82
I have friends in the military and we get together and they talk about what they seen over there and I have respect for what they went thru over there for so many months!
Made me cry. I know what my sister has done 12 years in the service 2 deployments and all she hears is you changed.. hell yeah she changed n this song says a lot! Ty to all who serve...past present future! My sis is my HERO!
@MarineInfantry990 I want to say thank you to you for your service. All too often we forget that it is brave people like you and all the others who are over seas now as well as the ones who never made it home that we are freedom. We need to remember that 'Freedom isn't Free'. Thank you. God Bless You All.
Thank you for this song, it truly came from your hearts....I did 23 years with 2 tours in the Nam and 2 tours in the Gulf and I'm proud of it. RLTW Brasso VNV M/C
Our combat veterans are who I honor come Veterans Day, I love our service men & women but those who have went through hell in conflict are held higher and rightfully so. God Bless our WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf & Iraq War veterans, you are heroes.
+Jackson Anderson I personally dislike this song, but not for what it stands for. I just never cared for the beat and instrumental parts of it. Still, I sometimes listens to it for the lyrics, the lyrics are wonderful.

My father was in Vietnam, he has a small collection of medals, purple heart, bronze star and such, he has refused to discuss it ever with me and i respect that as his wishes..

People often forget what our soldiers and veterans have done for this country. I think this song helps us all remember how brave they are and were.
My father was one of the first Navy Seals to fight in Vietnam, he's damned proud of what he did, why shouldn't he?
So sorry for Troy's family & friends. Prayers & love to all during this stressful heartbreaking time.

Our combat veterans are who I honor come Veterans Day, I love our service men & women but those who have went through hell in conflict are held higher and rightfully so. God Bless our WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf & Iraq War veterans, you are heroes.

How can people dislike this song? Especially when this represents our country and our Vets!!! Thank you to our Vets!! Love you all!
+Jackson Anderson I personally dislike this song, but not for what it stands for. I just never cared for the beat and instrumental parts of it. Still, I sometimes listens to it for the lyrics, the lyrics are wonderful.
+Jackson Anderson because they are assholes - get in or get out - I agree !
