These two men were perfect together. It was very sad, and extremely unfortunate that Troy Gentry had to pass over at such a young age. I know how much this had to impact Troy's family. I am positive that Troy Gentry was a very special person. As a totally disabled veteran, I just wanted to say thank you for the unwavering support of our United States Military.
hell yeah. this is my town and my country. america. the land of the free and blood red blood and white teeth of grin and bare arms when necessary and blue eyes crying in the rain.
I really don't know about y'all, but when l listen to this song, it takes me back to a small town in rural PA. Where I was raised and learned about God, country, and mother. I remember Great Uncle Rip and his tenacious behavior. Man, that guy was not scared of anything. I guess when you drive a tank in Europe in WW11, it does change you. I also remember my grandparents and the strict upbringing I received from them. They didn't have much, but I sure will say one thing that house of theirs was a full abundance of love. I also remember the other relations in my family that had a deep impact on me. God, I miss them days and sure wished I had them back again. They say that your past relatives who have passed on their spirits will drop in from time to time to see how you are doing. You know what, I firmly believe that.
I like when people forget hometown field advantage always means something . God put us here and we stayed for a reason . Cause we care not necessarily what everybody else has got goin on but we care bout what’s going on in “ our” town . Respect the home field advantage and you should be just fine 😊

This song came out just as I was finishing my dream of a 'cross-country bicycle ride in 2002. I passed through so many small towns with genuinely friendly people, who would invite you to have a meal in their home, camp on their back lawn, or help you if you broke down on the road. This song reminds me of those places. It's not called the "heartland" for nothing.
So cool you got to have that experience. Hat off to you for taking the leap and making it happen. I always had that dream to one day do something like that but feel that time has passed. Sadly all those places are disappearing and the country is a much more dangerous place. Hearing country music makes my heart hurt and yearn for those simpler wholesome days. If you don’t mind me asking where did you start/finish and what states did you ride through? I watched a documentary 5 or 6 years ago of a competition where bikers(bicyclists) raced across the country to see who could end up at the end which I believe was in Virginia? I think it started in Washington? Or Oregon? But it was badass and fun to watch. Each competitor was a character and had their own story. Especially the woman that was trapped in a cult for her entire childhood once out not knowing how to interact with other humans in society (felt like I could relate) she started biking, riding her bike everywhere I think she was from Italy? But she rode on every continent (I believe). A few years back I was curious to find out whatever happened to her and learned that her husband passed I think while rafting down a river in a South American country? If I remember correctly he disappeared where there were alligators ahh I can’t remember. I think I was watching a random crazy UA-cam and found out that she was his wife. My goal was to ride everyday no matter what, rain or shine, 2 in the morning, wind, on no sleep. Whatever I do remember this one time on my way back and my stupid battery in my headlight went out! That was scary. Still had couple miles to go along the highways where there were zero streetlights. But I’ll never forget those times. I was and still am I guess a shy person and it helped me become stronger and view my self as a badass. Amazing how physical action Now you have to worry about some criminal mowing you down for fun.
@@KeepPrayingCA Hi. Thanks for the response. Me and two ride partners started in Boston and ended in WA north of Seattle, riding through the northern border states. I LOVE this band I was very few black people at their gig in Louisville I’ve been a professional musician all my life and truly appreciate GOOD MUSIC and genuine talent … one WILL find these things with MG JS
I discovered them at an old job i did collecting for a medical lab. Saw a poster for them performing on one of the doors of an office I picked up from after hours up in Poughkeepsie, NY. Probably 10-11 years ago. I took the poster off the door and kept it lol. Can't believe Troy died... absolutely surreal.
This song is still so very relevant to so many of us who grew up in these communities with Farms and Textile/Wood/Grain etc..Mills around us, sure does take me back to those days to hear this song. They closed down several Mills in our town also and one actually did sound off the 12 o' clock whistle, for a while, that meant Lunchtime to everyone within earshot of that whistle, Ol Grandpa sure would be fired up by this song, gets ya right there in the Heart.
I grew up absolutely obsessed with these guys. They were my first concert and my first real music love. Listening to their music really helps heal the hurt that T-Roy's tragedy. Love you MG.
I’m not a big country music fan. But the story telling in this song really paints a picture and you can “feel” every word. And that hook, bravo. Good song.
My daddy used to love them and this song he passed away 7 years ago and it still makes me emotional to remember being a child and my parents blaring this with our windows down driving to our little house we thought no bad could happen in the world … shortly after my parents broke up and it changed our lives forever 😢
This is my town, this was my band. Made sure we saw them every year they came to Wisconsin. For one night each year the everyday stress of life was put aside as we got lost in a carefree, wild few hours of absolutely the best music we had ever heard. They always put on a great show as they were even better to see live, outdoors, under the stars. RIP Troy, you were our favorite singer and your smile let us know that everything was going to be ok. We all lost a little bit of our youth last week.
I love it I left west Virginia for like 10 years I was never mad at my dad still a good song.you don't hear much of the church of christ any more this is god I swear lol 🙌 ❤
Don't exactly understand why Troy's death has had such a deep, deep effect on me. I don't know how long ago he passed, but it still feels like last week. It's still impossible for me to make it through a MG listening session without one or more outburst of tears. These two were the benchmark for keeping it real, standing tall, saluting the flag, showing love, having a blast, and kicking ass.

He takes the best because they earn there wings with there heart soul and compassion for others. I've seen many good go to young recently, but they where indeed more than worthy and didn't belong here anymore besides in memory spirit and example❤
Even right now with their Album Here's to you,I have yet to hear any of those great songs being played on Country Radio or even on thr Top 40 Countdown because if you ask me,every song on that album is a hit.
it was 1999 im never gonna forget t-roy stage diving on top of us! in wichita!! omg that was funner than the garth brooks concert and about nothin!! tops that omg front row!!! badass! RIP t-roy yall were awesome!! and the best duo from the last 20 yrs thank you for the memories i'll never forget!
+Andy Aranovich O really,I do listen to Country Music on the radio but all I ever hear is the same songs over and over, that was the point I was trying to make.
+billie jo yep! you got that right! what I do is downloand these great country songs in my Cell, and if I'm in my car, well I listen to them with the blutooth You can never have enough of good Country music !
billie jo I do the same thing. Cept, I take all my great country songs on the road. 5 or 6 weeks at a time in my Pete. I love them ol boys. George Strait, Trace Adkins, Ol Sammy Kershaw, Brooks and Dunn, and a whole lot more of this REAL COUNTRY!!!!! If I had to listen to today's pop country, I think I'd throw my phone out the window. Ain't no good Country music anymore.
I’m from a small South Georgia town and been living in South Florida for the last 20 years. When I retire I’ll be moving back home where I can ride country dirt roads and might see 3 cars every hour. This song hits home, “yeah this my town!” 🇺🇸
It can still be that way, have Faith in Heavenly Father and Pray thru Christ Jesus that we will always be a Nation that Loves God, Family, and our Nation/Community.
I love me some good music. This is when music told a life story and people weren't ashamed of their upbringing. Ole T-roy is gone but never forgotten, and Eddie, you keep handling that microphone prop and keep singing.
I used to live in Germany since my dad was stationed there in the Army. Though Europe was Awesome, nothing compares to the magic of being in the states. Don’t take it for granted! Love this blessed country of ours! God save America from our sins.
I've never been in Plains Georgia....but I can imagine this song shows us all what it may be like I never got to meet President Jimmy Carter, but I have met those who helped people get into homes... Thats a legacy that even time will never erase. We'll see you later Jimmy.
they are too country for modern-day country radio. their latest single "headlights" failed miserably and is falling down the charts after only peaking at #44. i love MG but i think their career is over due to the change in country music's direction.
This was the very first song I'd ever heard from Montgomery Gentry when I was 4 years old. This song introduced me to one of the best country duos in the last two decades. The news of Troy's passing hit me like a ton of bricks and here I am still listening, and loving, the same song, with the same amazing video, so many years later, only this time it's with tears in my eyes. RIP T-Roy, and thank you for the last two decades of amazing, meaningful, music. The country music community will miss you. 💔😭
They closed our Mill in 1980. Barlow's Country Kitchen is the diner, they built the interstate about 5 years ago. Water tower is still there, just up the hill from The Church of God, that's always full. If you wanna come by, I'll show you around. Because I love My Town of 1,900. Lucasville, OH.
Come Sunday morning service at the Church of Christ there ain't an empty seat to be found! Thank God for those fly over states! Even though where there from may not be considered a fly over state? Hope Troy is in a better place now! We're off to Sunday service at the church of Christ and if we want a seat we better leave right now. For those who don't know why we still hear about southern hospitality well now you know and that's coming from a city boy from the East Coast! Oh Lord if it's your will please help me, but especially heal our land that you so mightily blessed! I really think we need a day or days of weeping and repenting for our individual but especially our national sins!
I love this song I was born and raised in a small town everything just like that I go back home sometimes love where I came from all people Christians the churches are full on Sunday morning no car's on the road all in church I will always be the person where I came from always and proud

Everything that they sing in this song says it,,,,,,,,So spot on......I onced lived this song for a short time in the south ..I couldn't stay .. But I 'll go back ...You always find your way back home!!...Yep !! "My Town..
God bless Montgomery gentry, he had a voice for heaven. He was called home, to make the perfect choir. Not missed or for gotten
They play this at all the Kentucky Basketball games, and we all sing along. Gotta love Kentucky, this is my state till I die 💙
I didnt care but I thought poeple was thinking I was stupid for say such good things about somebody I didn't know other than what others would say about him or see how they reacted when he would walk in to a room...but then I started reading the other coments....and they were just as ..sad or..were suffering a big loss..like he was there brother..father who lost a good son .or son or daughter..who lost the greatest funniest..coolest generous.dad you could think of and so proud he was your daddy'.....damn you were one cool.dude...and being a country music superstar..was just something he did on the side...because they just had to go find this cool ass country boy from ky who could sing good and play the hell out of a future and banjo
..a hunter .and farmer .full of courage...
Hey dear Patricia how are you doing over there ?
I am from the UK and can relate to this awesome song its a mirror image of northern towns in uk especially the old mining areas
In the uk we are missing the patriotic artists at this moment
USA country is leading the way God bless from over the pond
Why does God take all of the best? I'll tell you something... If we can get to Heaven, there's a HELL of a concert up there. ❤
He takes the best because they earn there wings with there heart soul and compassion for others. I've seen many good go to young recently, but they where indeed more than worthy and didn't belong here anymore besides in memory spirit and example❤
Still miss T-Roy. He was like a part of my family. Going on almost 5 years now but still hurts like hell. RIP T-roy. Love you
The music lives on! Troy you are missed brother! Thank you for improving the lives of me and many others.
I love Montgomery Gentry because all of their songs aren't about love. Plus their songs are real country songs, unlike the new song out today.
Ain't that the truth.... All Montgomery gentry songs seem to tell a good story
there was time every country music song told a story. Montgomery Gentry still do.
It's great that they sing about everyday life, keeps it interesting instead of just all love songs.
Love this video seeing the scenes in the back. Where my family is from. Love that town. Rest in peace T-roy
Wish they would play more music like this on the radio, love MG.
+billie jo look for Country Music Stations, and also you can find tem online free
Agreed
billie jo I do the same thing.
Rip Troy. My heart is broken! Country music will never be the same!
so much passion and soooooooooooohandsome!!!!!
RIP Troy
Tammy Mott I agree whole heartedly my wife introduced me to this duo hooked when the music started these guys IMHO are "my kind of country"
I know
SO heartbroken about Troy! Today we lost a true country legend! You will be forever loved and missed!! ♡
Hi,how are you ?
I can’t watch without feeling so empty.
Damn, why was he takin away? Such a great loss, it literally hurts my soul, like no other …
I’m from a small South Georgia town and been living in South Florida for the last 20 years. When I retire I’ll be moving back home where I can ride country dirt roads and might see 3 cars every hour. This song hits home, “yeah this my town!” 🇺🇸
Troy was a great singer and it is sad he is no longer around,. One reason i love country is because of this band
❤ when music was music and there was love for God, family, and country
It can still be that way, have Faith in Heavenly Father and Pray thru Christ Jesus that we will always be a Nation that Loves God, Family, and our Nation/Community.
Wow totally agree
"This is where they'll put me in the ground" Hits me harder now
Why though?...
@@kylebertsch6312 one of the two main singers Troy passed away in a plane crash last year :(
I was struck by that too. I wonder if it is where they put him in the ground…
Actually, it was a simple folk helicopter crash.
Only big city boys die in plane crashes.
Troy was a good ol' boy.

One hell of a singer and song writer
R.I.P. T-Roy. One of the greatest voices Country Music Ever Had. 🙏🏼✝️
I love these guys. Rest in peace, Troy. Beautiful, beautiful work.
I kneel for one King, and stand for everything else.
Trump?
I love me some good music. This is when music told a life story and people weren't ashamed of their upbringing. Ole T-roy is gone but never forgotten, and Eddie, you keep handling that microphone prop and keep singing.
This video captures the essence of life in a small town, believe me, Like No Other!!!
I used to live in Germany since my dad was stationed there in the Army. Though Europe was Awesome, nothing compares to the magic of being in the states. Don’t take it for granted! Love this blessed country of ours! God save America from our sins.
these guys are one of the best duo's to ever play traditional country music ever
Every one of their songs gives me goosebumps. What a great band!
RIP Troy Gentry. Heaven gained another great angel. I swear country music won't be the same without you.
I've never been in Plains Georgia....but I can imagine this song shows us all what it may be like
I never got to meet President Jimmy Carter, but I have met those who helped people get into homes...
Thats a legacy that even time will never erase.
We'll see you later Jimmy.
I lived in Danville and Junction City for 10 years. Went to Perryville all the time. Love Danville and Perryville. I miss it. What a great song!
it's an effin tragedy these guys and others like em can't be found in today's country...never thought the day would come
they are too country for modern-day country radio. their latest single "headlights" failed miserably and is falling down the charts after only peaking at #44. i love MG but i think their career is over due to the change in country music's direction.
colbiethree Yeah and a shame Alabama doesn't get the play they deserve either.
RIP Troy
Happy Heavenly 57th Birthday Troy
Gentry April 5 1967 - September 8 2017
I love how they shot most of this in downtown Lexington. And I also love taking US 27 from Lexington all the way to Perryville
Montgomery Gentry's music will always live on. RIP TRoy.
Heading back home from Houston to the small town I grew up in in Michigan tomorrow morning. Song is on the play list
