    This was very informative and realistic! Thank you for sharing your journey and expressing the fact that you did have to work some odds and ends jobs in order to thrive during the down times. I start Esthetics school next month and my goal is to become a Medical Aesthetician, so this was very helpful. Thank you 💗

    Thank you so much for this video! I so wish I would have found you while I was in school. I would have been more open to working for someone else before just jumping in and opening my own little space. I crashed and burned mentally, working my FT dental job and then my Esthi business on the weekends. I closed my space after only 6 months due to the stress but am still so interested in skincare, etc. I've been thinking about working front desk somewhere, even though I still do rely on my Full time job for financial security, health benefits, etc. I'm older so things like that definitely matter. Thanks so much again!

      Aww thanks for watching and sorry it's been stressful. Even when things are well it can get hard mentally. Sometimes I get overwhelmed being so busy now.. before I was overwhelmed not busy enough ... finding that balance is key!

    Love the video, very helpful and encouraging. I want to do both esthetics and cosmetic lasers. Which do you advice i do first? I also would love to work at a dermatologist office.

      I was able to get my training paid for laser through my employer so I would think Aesthetics first but it can be tough to get into a practice without extra certifications. I would honestly take a good look at your area and try to speak with Aestheticians in derm and Plastic practices and get their insights. Most Aestheticians want to be helpful so I would try reaching out. Don't get discouraged if you encounter someone grumpy or too cool to help. You will find one willing to talk! :) It will all depend on your area and state regulations to be honest each state is so different. I was in Ohio and now WV so happy to help if you are in one of those! I also know a little about KY. I am in a Tristate area.

    I am so happy I found this video thank you for your transparency - I do want to clarify you only have your Esthetics License, you just worked your way up through chain spas, front desk positions - to be able to work full time in a medical spa - You don't need to go to extra schooling (ex. RN, or get your PA or MA) to work in a medical spa? You can sole graduate from an Esthetics school and obtain your Esthetics license and work your way up to a medical spa (working under a derm. or physician, correct?) Thank you for the input I am going to get into Esthetician school but I don't fully understand all the requirements to become a 'medical esthetician' which is where I want to end up. ANY answers are helpful to me :)

      For me, that is correct!! I have an applied sciences degree which was to be a counselor before I did Aesthetics but it’s not what helped me here. Other than that Aesthetics and certifications is what I have 💖
      It really depends what state you’re in and what they allow. If you don’t mind me asking, what state are you in?
      There’s groups on Facebook that help a lot too. Esthetician connections is a good one. Also don’t let the A for Aesthetician confuse you… nobody really ever answered that one for me lol… basically medical community uses A in Aesthetics which to me should be across the board even in spas but… spas use E- Esthetician
      So silly…
      And most Aestheticians these days who know even a little bite charge you for some extra online class… that actually really annoys me. We used to just network and help each other but since covid, everyone just tries to make extra money for every single thing…
      I understand some extra info can be worth that but so many people charge for very basic advice.

    TYSM for sharing your beginnings and journey so far. I wonder, as already have had a successful hospital career in respiratory therapy then took many years to raise a family..Im thinking of going back to school for med aesthetics..In your opinion, do you think there is a place for mature ladies who are just starting? Is there a median age for this job?

      Hey, thanks for watching. I think it's never too late! Also You being more mature you'll like be more caring, and you'll seem even more wise!! Just really step up your skin care if you haven't because people do trust us if we also have great skin. I've seen several successful older women in this field so I say go for it if that's your passion!!

    For someone who wants to become a medical aesthetician and wants to open their own medical spa in the future, what would you recommend they major in, in college?

    • @aestheticiantrishmccarty1317
      @aestheticiantrishmccarty1317  3 роки тому +3

      Hello, it would honestly vary per state. Most states require a doctor to be on site or at the very least that a doctor allows you to work under their license. They usually do not have to be present but you are under their license. I would imagine you would need to to go in with a physician for this reason for a medi spa. In Ohio for example, Aestheticians can no longer microneedle patients even though they could previously. In West Virginia I can microneedle, I am an Aesthetician with no nursing license. So really look into your state requirements. You may need to look into nursing as well especially if you'd like to inject botox and fillers. If you get any nursing or other medical degree along with Aesthetics, you would be at a greater advantage honestly.

    should i find a school that focuses in medical aesthetics for my license?

    • @aestheticiantrishmccarty1317

      If that's the area you're interested in, I would try to find a school that offers the most certifications in advanced services for sure.

    Do you have to take anatomy or something ? For medical esthetician?

    • @aestheticiantrishmccarty1317
      @aestheticiantrishmccarty1317  3 роки тому +4

      It was included in my aesthetic schooling but many medical offices will only hire us after we've had some experience doing skin care, they like you to have taken extra courses like dermaplaning, microneedling, laser, etc. Some of them will pay you to get certified in these courses though but many expect at least 1-2 years experience even in a spa setting.

    Hello, thanks for the amazing video. I have a query. Is it a female dominated profession? Do women visit/ feel comfortable witj with male estheticians??

    • @aestheticiantrishmccarty1317
      @aestheticiantrishmccarty1317  3 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching! I believe it would depend on the services provided. In the past, it was definitely more common for women to be estheticians. I always thought it was cool to see men doing Aesthetics though. I believe some women would love that. For body treatments, there would be more hesitation I think from certain women to see a male esthetician. For example, I’ve worked with male massage therapists and they sometimes were not as busy as the female therapists. That was because sometimes when clients called in they would ask for female therapists only. Sometimes there’s fear when it comes to body treatments. I think a male who does a great job, treats clients well, could become very popular and stand out especially now days… it is starting to become more acceptable for men to do more in the beauty world. Definitely would face some challenges though like I said depending on your service list and your location too.
