how many combat drops?
It doesn't cross ones mind just how long ago Aliens was. It's almost 40 years!!
Still better than most modern films.
Still better than all modern films. There, I fixed it for you.
I have it on iTunes and it was upgraded for free to 4K. I noticed that it now has a warning that it has “outdated language, attitudes and cultural depictions that some may find offensive today”.
Is it the marines? Is it the comment by Hicks to Vasquez? The marines are supposed be Jar heads and offensive, even in the 80s that was clear.
Is it Vasquez being played by a white actress? She was bad ass and I haven’t read or heard any one be offended by that. Maybe that’s it, though.
Really confused by that. There is no warning about the violence and blood of course, but It’s rated 18 (uk) so people should know it’s going to contain adult material.
Indeed!
@@makasete30 The thing I find weird regarding the "white washing" allegations surrounding Vasquez, is that a huge chunk of Mexicans are of predominantly European ancestry and identify as white, and Jeanette Goldstein is half Brazillian, the Brazillians are Portuguese, who are basically the same ethnicity (Iberian) as Spanish people (whom the Mexicans are descendants of). So I don't see it as race swapping at all, unless the existence of predominantly European Hispanics are completely ignored. I swear some people live in a parallel universe where the only Hispanics are either fully indigenous or have very minimal Iberian in them at the most. Obviously not every Hispanic is white but white ones do exist and I think that Vasquez is clearly meant to be a European Mexican.
I turned 39 on sunday, and i was watching it again the night before he went live with this interview. I thought i was going mental haha
I love how Gorman goes back for Vasquez in Aliens. Great redemption for the character. 💚 👽👽
Such a great redemption and love how Vasquez not only shows she has some newfound respect for him but even gets in a last little dig which is so in keeping with her own character. Just great writing, character development and acting all round.
I did really enjoy that part too...
But he's still an asshole
Yes! And had he not done that, we'd never seen Ripley battle the queen in that loader. She has a class 2 rating ! 🐿
All the characters in Aliens end being the opposite of what they seemed at the start. Burke seems like a genuinely good guy who doesn't realize how bad the organisation he works for is, then turns out to be a treacherous snake who was in league with his masters from the start.
Hicks seems like a typical jar-head who isn't going to take the civilian woman seriously and ends up being her strongest ally.
Bishop seems like a creepy synthetic who's gonna be a repeat of Ash but ends up being a good dude.
Hudson goes from being a braggadocious, arrogant tough guy to a spineless coward (before redeeming himself in a last stand toward the end of the movie).
It's that kind of writing that kept the movie from being dull and predictable. You could almost call it "subverting expectations done right." Now compare and contrast that with Promethdeus, where every character's true nature is immediately obvious from their first moments on screen, and not a single one of the surprises you with their actions at any point.
Yeah, I know which I'd rather watch...
Lieutenant Gorman and the Critical Drinker discussing Warhammer. What a time to be alive. Great interview as always. Love these VIP lounges. Keep 'm coming.
What I find Gorman so admirable is that despite the lack of combat experience, he's willing to go on this dangerous mission to exterminate dangerous creatures while taking his mission seriously and not being arrogant unlike the other Marines.
Going back for Vasquez, armed with *a pistol* cemented his badass-ery forever
Just like Ripley in Alien.
Nah, he was completely arrogant. That’s the point
That moment were they clasp their hands together gets me every time. He went out like a boss.
Yeah, the same handshake she gives her buddy drake at the beginning
Met him at local convention. Complete gentleman, and great guy. Absolutely loved him in Aliens, my favorite all time movie. Thanks for having him on the show, great episode.
Aliens is my favourite film of all time. Thank you so much for this wonderful interview.
Amen bro
on a parr with predator for me...watched them both in the same night when i was 12 in 1989...rewired my synapses and the rest is history
The charismatic and entertaining clarity and wisdom of William is as engaging as it is sadly missing in Hollywood today.
good actor, arguably one of the most important arcs in Aliens. Really enjoyed listening to him. Thanks Drinker, please interview the rest of the Aliens cast
I love seeing you interview solid actors like this. I'd love to see more like Sean Pertwee, Darren Morfitt and Robert Knepper. No pressure 😅
Jason Isaacs would also be a great choice.
Ben Wheatley would be a good guest
@@davidsummer8631 Fantastic director

Its going to be a Awesome VIP lounge episode to watch!
But i have to say: _I'm Hudson, he's Hicks._
I had the opportunity of introducing my youngest sister (20 years old) to Aliens a couple months back. She absolutely loved it. A timeless movie with great actors and effects!
I introduced a young co-worker of mine to Aliens a few months ago - she's the type who doesn't like to watch movies made prior to 2010, but she loved it in spite of herself. It's a movie that's hard to beat.
I'd love to see the Drinker meet Peter Weller
Haven't enjoyed an actor interview like this for a long time. I know he said it a lot in the interview about others but - Bill - what a gorgeous man!
I have always loved Gorman's character. I always felt like he was trying to measure up - even though he was so green around the gills. William Hope knew what the character was and he nailed that performance.
Excellent Actor and thoroughly sound fella
this film is my top #1 film - i still cant believe it was done for so little money and still holds up today.
I absolutely loooove Gormans character - that bit at 27 mins where he's talkin about addressing the other troopers... its soooooo good... he's calm and collected despite the mockery and jokes... telling them he wants it all done in a few hours... then on the end of his briefing.. a properly militant "NOW MOVE IT PEOPLE!". I think William nailed that scene as well because its in such contrast to the jester jokes of the troops.
superb interview thankyou!
"Hudson come here... COME.. HERE!" 😂
Gorman gained my respect in the end of the movie. Mr. Hope gives me hope for humanity. Thank you both.
I love the legitimacy of what you’re doing with this platform. Long may it continue
What a great interview, thanks so much to you Drinker and to William.
I listened to William's performance of the Aliens Audible book....Really, really good work. His voice is really distinctive. Seems like a top lad.
Aliens, this and the original predator was my favourite films ever, yes my brother got me watching films that I enjoyed but these 2 were ones I found out about, I was 14 at the time and to this day, both are still up there, defo top 5
I don't know how the rest of you feel but I think Gorman is one of the highlights of the film and William's portrayal is centre to that. Gorman's inexperience and indecision creates utter chaos that leads right in to the main crux of the story. Amazing film with an amazing cast. This is an out of the blue interview and it's a really good interview. Kudos to the Drinker on this one...
yes it was a key arc, he was out of his depth but he has a great redemption.
You always were a nice chap Hope
Fascinating the road taken to do one film over another one: working with venerable director Stanley Kubrick, or working with, at the time, a relatively unknown gentleman to work on a sci-fi film. I love stories like this, what a personable gent Mr. Hope is, thank you for a great lounge and very much looking forward to more.
Man only just started and this guy hits the ground running! Such energy and passion. Could listen to him talk for hours
Another awesome VIP lounge with yet another interesting guest. Well deserved success in books, UA-cam and soon, cinema.
When you listed his other appearances in movies TV and gaming I was surprised by how many i'd heard of.
And as Resident Evil Fan, i did not know he was in RE3.
That's so cool, learn something new everyday.
I really enjoyed the interview and I think I got my Aliens documentary in just in time.
Looking forward to seeing it.
I didn't know I needed to see this, but I loved every minute, what a genuine man Hope is. Great work Drinker💪😃👍
This is awesome. Just discovered your channel and love it.
Gorman had a great redemption arc.
Holy smokes, this is real entertainment. Thank you, I was smiling like a kid for the most of the interview. Gonna watch Aliens again very soon :)
This is my favorite film in the series.
It’s amazing listening to someone that loves what they do.
Aliens is great. So many good scenes and memorable lines.
Hudson: "Hey Vasquez, you ever been mistaken for a man?"
Vasquez: "No. Have you?"
Please keep interviewing every cast member you can of one of the greatest action sci-fi films of all time, ALIEN!
Fantastic interview, seems like a great guy and he probably got to reach more fans than he ever has before by coming on your stream. Much appreciated.
Well done Drinker and thanks Bill for your time. Bill's such a lovely chill guy, very passionate about his craft.
William Hope!!!! Aliens is my favorite movie!!! Let’s go!!!
His portrayal of Gorman was absolutely fantastic and realistic. Glad to hear his thoughts on acting and it makes sense how he did it.
I was 20 years old when Aliens came out. i saw it three times at the cinema .The only movie i saw more than twice at the big screen .The other Empire strikes back 😊
I saw he donated his signed Space boots/trainers to the Alien Museum in Barcelona when I was there a few weeks ago. Great touch.
Great interview and an all-time great film for me. I didn't stop talking about it for weeks after I watched it on VHS tape back in the 80's:)
"You really are an asshole Gorman!" He earned his stripes right there. Perhaps not the role you would choose, but still so iconic. A lot of factors went into making that movie so good, and William Hope was one. Thank you for your service!
_”Let’s saddle up Apone”_
Loved this interview. Thank you both so much!
Well done, Sir! You could tell Mr. Hope was enjoying this, he wouldn't leave.
I keep hearing Marshall Waits from ALIEN: Isolation. Its cool that he has played to characters in the Alien franchise
Such a great interview! 👍
I can't believe you never started with "Alright, everybody online looking good!" 😆 As a massive fan, this was a very enjoyable listen, cheers to you both!
I love first Alien movie the most.
But damn Aliens is also a damn awesome movie.
Great interview Drinker!
Keep bringing more of these awesome actors
Another winner. Thank you drinker.
This was SUBLIME! Thank you Bill and Drinker!
Xenomorph is such a great name for the species. Xeno literally means alien/stranger and morph is form/structure.
Giger was upset that he couldn't work on Aliens, but he had a contractual obligation for Poltergeist II.
Stan Winston being the creature-guy was probably a defining aspect of this film.
His work in The Thing is what makes that such a horrifying film, and easily one of my favorites.
The success of Gorman when playing Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps board game has earned the model the title Gormenator in my gaming group. There was never any doubt that Gorman died a soldier doing his best for his team, but we like to think that our games contain the one that lived as a hero too.
Really enjoyed this. William seems a super cool dude.
The scene when they are all looking at the monitor and they spot the transponders. Ok, we got them! And they all rush off, except for Hudson still staring, something isnt right. None of the transponders are moving..?
This is one of the scenes that really sell the story.
Awesome interview, Mr. Hope is a pretty cool guy! Thanks for doing it, Drinker.
Great interview,Hope is a great actor and has appeared in many of my favorite films, and Aliens will forever hold up as not only one of the best sequels, but as the best film out of the original trilogy;Ellen Ripley's last story arc. Two thumbs up. 😊👍👍
Great interview! William Hope is a class act.
Love how you're ticking off the cast from (one of my all-time faves,) Aliens, not least because they're actors I forget I've seen in other great work but also they have great stories about shooting it. Another great interview.👏
What a great, fun guy! Fantastic Interview, Mr. Drinker!
Absolutely loved this!
Mr. Hope wonderful actor and class act, very funny guy too and take things lightheartedly. Gob bless him
Can't believe I missed this. Great interview, loved Gorman, his mini redemption arc was great, always wished Gorman and Vasquez could have survived in some kind of what if scenario, would have made a great buddy cop type story. Had no idea Mr Hope was in C-12: Final Resistance, it's a great PS1 game about an alien invasion, well great back in the day.
Great conversation, enjoyed this loads. Will have to check out the interview with Mark Rolston too.
I am a big William Hope fan! Lt. Gorman was a really underrated character. I always liked him. And something about Hope's voice really made the character. Great character arc. I have heard some people say that Gorman is a character that, when you are young, you think he's as asshole. But when you're older, you tend to identify with him a lot more, and see the Marines under his command as jackasses.
He was also great in Hellraiser II.
Finally,some recognition for Kyle! 👍
I was literally thinking “Who the hell was he in Poltergeist? I don’t remember him from that?” Respect to William for setting the record straight 👍
Great guest Drinker. I was drawn of course by the Aliens angle but William Hope is such an interesting and thoughtful actor I stayed for the whole interview.
Great interview. It went smooth and by the numbers :D
Great Interview. Thank you Drinker!
I don't know if it is a consequence of the war in the Balkans during the 90`s, or something else, but everything before 2000 seems to me to be from another dimension, or another life. Thanks for the reminder, we had a great time.
I've been listening to his narration of the Foundation audio books on Audible for the last few months and had no idea I was listening to Lt. Gorman haha. He sounds quite different to his younger self but his voice is very distinctive, I recognised him immediately when I played Terminator: Resistance.
This was great. What a refined, humble, thoughtful & fun man. Drinker, I think this format is the way. This is what nobody else does. I really don't care for your discussions with like-minded people.
I don't care if you guys are on the same page about Fallout. It's a circlejerk. If I want to know what Little Platoon or MauLer have to say about storytelling in contemporary cinematography, I will go to their respective channels.
Oh, but THIS type of conversation opens a genuine window into the practical, human, & artistic experience of film making. This might be the antidote to the mystification of Hollywood bulls*ittery.
Thank you for exploring this vector.
Btw, don't be so nervous. You got this.
Yeah, the panels are all a little boring and predictable now, including FNT. They mostly just bitch about how bad movies are. I like the parts where they go over the box office numbers and layoffs because it paints an accurate picture of how soon the economy will completely collapse.
Drinker is on his way to be the top interviewer in all of UA-cam. 💯🎉
Great interview with a fantastic actor.
Proof that not all actors are dummies. What a smart guy. And the best piece of advice for aspiring actors: Don't fuck up. They should have that on t-shirts during rehearsals.
Checks IMDB, William Hope not credited for Poltergeist. Wow! That's how powerful this podcast is!
Now I want to rewatch Aliens. One of my favorite films - so good.
Awesome to see Gorman. That's nuts! Very memorable character - an inexperienced leader, but a space-marine to the bone. He's narrated a few audiobooks, and they are very good. His narration of Alien Resurrection is probably better than the film, tbh.
Good stuff, Drinker.
Great stories and insight from a great guy. Awesome.
Hey Drinker, would you consider doing a eulogy tribute video for Roger Corman (R.I.P., btw), who recently passed away? Would love to hear your thoughts on his influence.
So precious this insights of production
Aliens is a perfect film. It's an exciting adventure film, a familiar template. Alien was in some ways a more original ground-breaking work of art, but it's a rough ride.
I acted in a production of Tom Sawyer when I was 10 (I was Tom Sawyer). People say I was good, I just remember it was lots of fun, and I was a bit of a show-off as a kid so I was nervous. I was in 1 other play, but I can't recall what it was called.
"DO SOMETHING!!"
"RIPLEY!!!"
You always were an asshole Gorman…✊
Such enthusiasm and humility!
This is so cool man, I wish we get many more Vip interviews
Enjoyed that, thank you.
Fantastic interview! Always interesting hearing insights to those who have worked with James Cameron. Excited for Aliens Expanded!
I really like Hope in Hellraiser II and Sherlock Holmes.
Drinker, keep these coming.
I'm a big Hellraiser fan in general. Just so vicious and cruel, no fucking rules.
Great interview.
Great interview. When he brought up Korean films...I would really love to see you do a review of I Saw the Devil.
Great interview, Drinker!👍
he played such a solid roll in Sherlco holmes (guy richie)...very recognisable and professional
Great job, smooth and by the numbers.
Great interview, great actor
Great interview! Unless I missed it, Mr. Hope was not asked about upcoming projects, appearances, performances that he would want to promote? Of course there's his IMDB to check, but always good to hear it from a guest.
Yes Lt Gorman ! One of the greatest movies ever made , great interview Will 👍🏼
"You always were an asshole, Gorman." Repeated with the deepest respect, sir :)
great stuff. Thank you gents
Really enjoyed that
