great tutorial my blind does not go up and down easily the rod sticks and doesn’t turn also the end of it folds up and it’s not easy to use help please
I'm 79 and not as handy as I used to be! Your video boosted my confidence, and although I had a few hiccups that were my fault, it is up and running! Cheers and Thank you!
Hey Sampler - I'm glad you liked the tutorial! :-) I've been happy with my shade so far - it's been up for a few years now and is holding up great. As for compensation: I only feature stuff on my channel that I've bought and paid for myself, so I can be completely honest about my experience/opinions. Once compensation comes into play, suddenly the motivations get all wonky. Thanks for watching!
A friend asked me to help her install one of these. She sent this video. It is absolutely outstanding. It's a textbook example of a well-done video: Tons of info, low editorial content. It doesn't assume the viewer knows how to use tools, but never condescends. Thank you very much for making this video.
I am so grateful you took the time to produce this excellent video for the rest of us that are thinking of installing one. It is so well thought out and covers all the steps plus your own tips all in a calm and concise manner. Thanks!!
Hi everyone, the time saving and cost saving hack for converting from a Manuel roll up and down to a motorized is, Instead of buying a motor and making a platform to mount the motor and having to be around an electrical outlet. Just Purchase a proper length aluminum or steel dowl rod. In My case I had an old car hood prop rod laying around. I simply bent one end of that rod/dowl into the shape of a hook and then I put the other end of the rod/dowl into my portable drill bit and tighten the drill bit onto the rod. Insert hook shaped end into the shade turning apparatus. Now you can use your portable drill to lower and raise your new shade with no cost to you other than your rod Purchase. I've been using that application for 20 years on a heavy duty outside 21ft long awning.
I don’t have a patio that needs this, so I watched this purely for the entertainment value. I love how you explained the pitfalls that can happen while installing the product, and how to get past them, and the little improvement you made with that hook thingy. This was great, and you’re a good teacher.
I was perusing the instructions but I decided that I should watch a video to complement the instructions and I found this one. Great explanation. It really helps to understand instructions better.
What a wonderful video. Great job getting straight to the point with no wasted time. I love the extra tips you gave. You also have a very nice speaking voice to listen to. I agree that Coolaroo should sponsor you. Since this is a 3 year old video, I don't think you will see this, but I just found your channel and loved this one so much I am a new subscriber. Thank you 😊
These style of roll up shades are quite common in Greece. As for "motorizing" the system, I obtained an old rod from the rust bin. Cleaned and painted it. Cit off the main part of the crank and ran a bolt up into the hollow rod. Take a nut driver bit for the size of hex bolt used, chuck it into your cordless drill and your off to the races.
Super tutorial. Couldn't have been better. Listenable, engaging, answers all the questions before you start the project. Thanks for making this available.
I installed one of these. It works fine. I don't have any complaints. I leave it down all the time. But I then realized I could have saved $50-$75 by doing the same thing with a simple sail shade like the one I installed over the entry area to our front door. Cheap and easy and quite effective. Derp.
Sir, you are a God send! Thank you for your video. I am going to check Coolaroo out just because of this video. I will leave a review on their site pointing to your video/channel as well. You are a REAL/an ACTUAL "Influencer"....
Thank you for the video, didn’t have to open the directions. Used to cover a boathouse entry, at least for the time being. After determining where I wanted to mount, I tightened the wind up side, used a hanger to hold in place, then adjusted the opposite. Easy job for 2 people, but it can be done solo.
Thank you!! My new brackets came with no instructions and I didn't know the spindle could be repositioned, or that the brackets had that cover over the screws to rotate the spindle. That was THE secret to making it work for me. :)
Motorize it super easy by making ur pole straight, sticking it in ur drill and wind it in or out. I do this with my normal toldos. Now im looking to make the same blinds but with pvc to stop rain getting in, new challenge and video for u 🤩🤩🤩 il be waiting to copy. Ps love the rubberized hooks idea, iv been using rope, will be copying u. Thanks for the upload, regards from Spain.
This was a very good video. Very professional and very thorough. As a former shop teacher I appreciate the attention to detail. It is also very helpful. I just installed a simial shade at my house and this video provided me a lot of little things that made the job easier. Thanks!
Love these shades.. we have 4 to enclose area under our deck... my husband rigged an attachment for his portable drill ... easy to wind and unwind these shades......
I’ve seen these shades but couldn’t visualize how I would use it for my area. Now, I can visualize it perfectly!! Great video instructions!! Thank you very much 😊
After we had our house painted, they put one shade back up with the loop facing up which made it impossible to move up or down. I thought for sure they had messed up the bracket paring, and I would have to take all 4 shades down and figure out which went where (I didn't orginally install them). The info at 2:10 saved me probably an entire day's aggravation. Thx so much.
Another great video. We have these shades from Homedepot for over 5 years they still look and work good as new. Only thing that looks weathered is the stick to crank it up and down is getting rusty so we now keep in plastic deck box .
Thank you sooooo much your video was Great👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. I received my shade today but, got concerned when I saw the brackets and thought they HAD to be flat against the wall which would make my shade too short. I immediately came in to check for installation instructions and yours was the first to pop up. Now that I know there are a couple of options I can take the shade out of the box. Thanks again☺❤
Awesome video!!! I am just ready to go buy two of these and was wanting the cranks on opposite ends so that when using two blinds side by side the cranks will be aginst the walls
Wonderful video… I like how you installed it and came up with easy solutions when it’s breezy. To me if it was a heavier screen I would do motorized but what you’ve done it’s perfect !
Thank you for your excellent👍 information on installing a sun shade on a patio ! Been🤔 thinking of getting a sun shade for my patio ! ❤️🙏👍👵🏻😻 🌵I live in ARIZONA and that afternoon sun is 🥵 rough ! 👍❤️🙏👵🏻😻🌵🇺🇸
Thank you a great tutorial video. I purchased the 2.4m version, and having watched your video was able to improvise to enable it to fit the side of my pergola, cheers from Christchurch NZ
Thanks for sharing, we are looking for a similar solution... this was super informative and simple. Yes we'd love to see it motorized, however be able to keep the Manuel setting as well. Thanks and blessings
Thanks for this video… I just purchased 2 of the exact ones you had, and the instructions are pretty simple. I just wanted to see if any videos were on UA-cam to show a simpler way… yours did exactly that! Thanks again! New sub…( I know this is an old video, but it’s still good info!)
Great video - easy to follow along and it all made sense. As with some others, Id be interested in a powered version (my first thought would be to use a cordless drill). LOL. Thanks again!
Thanks for showing how to flip that clutch… The instructions that came with my shade had a different version of the clutch and the screws were hidden. Thanks! 👍
My motorized version consisted of me using one of the bars with a hook on the end, cutting off the end that turned into a hand Crank, and buying a cheap cordless drill that it's always attached to. To raise and lower the shade fast I just hook onto the mechanism up top and drill it up or down in seconds.
Adds privacy too.
Definitely a bonus. Thanks for watching!
great tutorial my blind does not go up and down easily the rod sticks and doesn’t turn also the end of it folds up and it’s not easy to use help please
I'm 79 and not as handy as I used to be! Your video boosted my confidence, and although I had a few hiccups that were my fault, it is up and running! Cheers and Thank you!
Seriously, the company should be compensating you for such an awesome tutorial! We’ll buy this product because of your video. Thank you!
Hey Sampler - I'm glad you liked the tutorial! :-) I've been happy with my shade so far - it's been up for a few years now and is holding up great.

You did an extremely good job on this tutorial, one of the best I’ve seen on UA-cam, thank you.
Same here.
He made it plain and simple, and some extra.
You should be sponsored by this company, you've got me sold on these shades. Thanks for posting.
Glad you like them!
after watching about 5 or 6 videos on installing these I found yours.....easy to understand and very well done. A big thank you.
A friend asked me to help her install one of these. She sent this video. It is absolutely outstanding. It's a textbook example of a well-done video: Tons of info, low editorial content. I have 5 of these shades on my patio. They are awesome and have held up now for 13 years so far. Awesome shades.
Good to know. Hope my new ones last as long.

You should make a video explaining this because it sounds very interesting but us diy novices need a visual. 😂

Thank you very much, Dino!
We used one of those for a 10’ span and 4 years later it’s still great!
Thanks for pointing out how to change the crank mechanism to the other side!
Glad it was useful!
Motorized version would be great to see!
Yes, please!
Awesome.
Buy and give us all the results
Motorized version would be cool!

Or one that comes with a cute adult cabana boy that will raise and lower the shade and make me sweet iced tea.
Great shades . I have several lining both east facing porches. Keeps them nice and cool.
After we had our house painted, they put one shade back up with the loop facing up which made it impossible to move up or down. Great video - easy to follow along and it all made sense. As with some others, Id be interested in a powered version (my first thought would be to use a cordless drill). LOL. Thanks again!
Using a drill was the first thing that came to mind for me as well. :-)
Ditto, but I’ve been too lazy to figure it out. Yet. I’m working on some ideas on how to do it without unmounting the shade.
Wow what a great video , you did a fabulous job explaining and showing this install! Thank you!
Thank you!
Thanks for showing how to flip that clutch… The instructions that came with my shade had a different version of the clutch and the screws were hidden. Thanks! 👍
Thank you, I have a set for my deck and the information you provided helped a lot.

Yes on the motorized option
I knew this was gonna be a good tutorial when I saw your T-shirt thanks👍
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.
Installed theses a few years ago and cut the rod and use my battery powered hand drill to raise and lower
Yes! A motorized version would be awesome!
Coolaroo D.I.Y. video. Thanks for sharing.
Haha I was thinking there had to be a way to mechanize it. Please make a video of that!
THANK YOU for your wonderful tips on how to install this outdoor shade blind
