This guy doesn't know what he is talking about. I've owned many cars in my 63 years and this is one of the best. Super cool looking with a nice comfortable ride. It is a convertible, after all, so there are some compromises like the visibility, which does suck with the top up. However, this is a car to drive with the top down whenever possible - and you will absolutely love it.
I have to say, I own the 4 cylinder 2008 Eclipse Spyder and I love it! I commute 60 miles a day. The back seat is big enough for two adults, if you really need it (tight in the shoulders). We actually chose this car because we wanted sporty and function. It has the awesome sound system and it does fit a carseat rear-facing. Front wheel drive has a perk: insurance is MUCH less expensive than a traditional sports car. This may not be the choice for guys who need power, but I think it has plenty!
You have to turn your head to change lanes ANYWAYS so it makes it nice to have the side view mirror that far back so you can get a look in the mirror while checking your blind spot over your shoulder
Love my 2009 convertible. Purchased at 50K miles. Just hit 100K. Except for the brake pedal dropping to the floor which was fixed in the recall, I have had zero problems with this little gal. He's correct about the rear window, bumps, and lousy turning radius. So I put the top down, get on the highway, and discovered you get a tighter turn if you gun it.
CR have once again missed the point... Just because a parked Eclipse looks like is going 300mph don't mean it supposed to go 300mph. The Eclipse very is a stylish 'boulevard cruiser' and as such it does exactly what it should. Other online reviews hold a very candle up to the Eclipse. I've seem too many CR reviews that hit hard on negatives leaving the false impression that what ever there're reviewing is crap.
@autojunkieman, I have a 2007 spyder loaded. Fast. Hnadles corners great. Feels like riding down the road in a luxery car, smooth, but when you want to pass someone you leave them in their tracks. Only problem is backing up. I put in a backup camera.
ummmm I have this car and its awesome! and its beautiful and pretty fast. the negatives he said are true though, I have a hrad time seeing anything behind me,
I was considering getting a Eclipse GT-P V6, currently i drive a 2 door honda civic DX-G. I don't really want the spyder, much prefer the coupe. But from what everyones been talking about its good in straights and has tons of juice. Which is what i really like, but is it worth living with? I don't want a lancer because i'll be one of.. "those" guys.
If you really need a REAL CAR, that isnt watered down , this is A good reliable Bargain car, with good styling, but the lack of stability control option is a deal breaker for people who want to buy this for their high school/college kid
A rear anti-sway bar (think Eibach or Progress) is pretty much all you need to get this car to take corners, just don't overdo it on the throttle or you'll understeer into the wall/ditch
This guy has no idea what he's talking about. These are great little sports cars with more than enough power and comfort to go around. Handles great and are easy to park in tight spaces. Visibility is easy, adjust your mirrors properly and you'll have no blind spots. Ask a race driver how he adjusts his. may seem strange at first, but it works.
Nothing about this evaluation is accurate . Dollar for dollar, pound for pound, this is one of the funnest cars for the money. Furthermore, how can you go from comparing a Honda to a chevy. That in and of itself makes no sense. I will agree with 1 thing. The visibility on the highway can be a challenge at times, however, if you're an experienced driver, you'll adjust.
I love how this review started with a nostalgia trip and quickly took a turn for "but...it's shit" It's sad Mitsubishi didn't take more chances with this car, they really would've had something, but I can say that as a company, Mitsubishi isn't exactly into innovation.
Mitshoebishi? Is that he says? Bad review. Pronounce the name of the company correctly. Is that too much to ask? This guys complains about everything. He’s like an ex gf I had.

Im still buying it
O no its a sport coupe with an aggressive exhaust. Because the consumer that buys this car wants it quiet. Cut it out.

A Chevy Malibu. He's a type of guy that drives a.... Chevy Malibu
This is a perfect example of what happens when you don't lobby CR.

wow what a rough review, most of it is true though. This coming from an Eclipse household.
I really hate that they made this car FWD, how is it a "sports" car and not rwd, or like the original, awd

the old spyder was vastly superior
