I am afraid that's how the govt set our minds to be. that Singapore is a place where you make a fortune. anyone who can contribute to the economy can come and stay, and anyone who doesn't like it, can go. so you tell me, why would singaporeans die for a place where it merely functions as a company?
I would put in differently. A country is not something you die for. It is something you LIVE for. What good does it do for your country when you are dead. Look how the paper generals will hide in their bunkers while you are out facing the gunfire. Always remember the Gen. Patton quote, “No bastard ever ….”
I tink the govt need to be replaced by Fts just like wat they did to thir pple.probably tos time take a cheaper altenative from he 3rd world country.tats wat they want.cheap2
They did it since old man was around. Mercenaries. Foreign soldiers who take orders from the government, for the government. Different from your local boys, the patriots who serve in the National Service. NS men will fight for their people. For example - Why do you think the Thai Army acted to administer their homeland? To stop corrupt politicians and gangsters, foreign mafia from victimising their local people. Neutralise or delay threats from foreign powers. Not to defend and protect pretty buildings, erecting more pretty buildings and entertainment spots. Imagine China cutting a channel across Thailand to the Andaman sea. Only politicians would love that, to enjoy the benefits from a communist and militant China. How many channels have been cut into Singapore by now? Guess what, it only can happen when the citizens are diminished, and they are and have been diminished. Who runs the country? The economy. Who controls the world economy? Not Singapore. Make a guess, who runs Singapore, but doesn't have to own it. Just need to collect tributes from the people. That's the nature of a vassal state. Where is Singapore headed? Prosperity of course. For who? Anybody is free to guess. Go buy the lottery and number games tickets.
I used to complain about NS, until I met friends who had to serve Israeli or South Korean National Service. Singapore National Service may not be a pleasant experience. But it is price worth to pay for the luxury Singapore allows us to afford. The only reason we see it as a waste is because we have been privileged enough to only know peace.
+Andreas Tassinari Any luxuries that you can afford are not free; they are paid for using the fruits of your hard work. They are either paid for with your cash or your taxes. It's also amusing that you think forced labour is a "privilege".
+Marcus Toh "Singapore doesn't forces you to fight for her" Really? I didn't know that men had a choice. If you're so selfless, you don't need NS or compulsory service to defend your country, you can just sign up on your own.
+Andreas Tassinari both Israel and south korea are constantly under the threat of war from other countries. Is there a country on earth that actually hates Singapore to the core like how north hates south korea? or are there multiple countries who detest the very fact that Singapore is an independent state like how most of the middle eastern states surrounding Israel hate its existence??? the answer is no. the threat to Singapore is non-existent when compared to that of south korea or Israel. even if somehow we die die need NS to survive, 3-12 month NS is more than enough for our ''threat level''. copying the duration of NS from Israel and south korea is just plain inefficiency. Btw most combat units take less than 1 year to train a fully operational soldier, the rest of the time is just a waste
+Andreas Tassinari We might have needed NS when we were being threatened by our neighbours but now it all seems somewhat unnecessary. To add on to Ray, Israel and South Korea are not under the threat of war, they are at war. This gives their citizens a good reason to serve - the threat to survival is imminent. And in Israel, the women fight too. Not in the idealistic, I'm a mother/sister/wife way, but in direct combat roles.
Cpf are theirs to keep.u die ur problem.u still alive they will extend the withdrawal.blane it on Mahathir for living till tat senile age.so now our govt think all sporean can live till tat age n still working so tat they can cont sucking our money.who knows how many cof monies are not being claimed by the nok.sp those married with no kids etc..die like a dog hit by a car.
The irony. When we are overseas, we feel a sense of pride calling ourselves Singaporeans but when it comes to defending her, no one is willing. After reading all the comments, it's sad to know that nothing matters more to us than what is materialistic. The government isnt the country. The country is where you grow up, the bonds you have formed and the love ones you have here.
Couldn't agree with this more. Many people also seem to forget that we are only 54 years old. This national identity and social cohesion takes time, it doesn't grow with the economy, education levels or standard of living. And of course we must always work towards it. Other countries like America and Japan have had centuries of time to get it together. I'll echo your statement again: "The government isn't the country. The country is where you grow up, the bonds you have formed and the loved ones you have here." You aren't dying for the government or the PAP, you are dying for your family, friends and your fellow Singaporeans. We seem to have a mentality of, "you give me first, then maybe I'll give back", perhaps that's why it feels like we live in a company not a country. The govt is an institution, of course it kinda runs like a company, doesn't mean we the people and society have to behave like that too.
This was an extremely great watch, thank you:) I have to admit that many are cynical about this country, including myself at times, but this has refreshed my perspectives and reminded me of my Home. I've read some of the comments and it saddens me to see someone saying "I will not die for this country". Maybe we shouldn't take this too literally. The first step to forming "The Glue" is to have the heart to sacrifice for this country, in any way possible💓 This was beautifully filmed, and is a strong message to every Singaporean. "The grass is always greener on the other side" this I firmly believe. It's easier to be content and to make the most of where & who we are✨
Lieutenant Adnan was born in Kajang, Selangor. During World War II, he led the 1st Infantry Brigade in protecting the area at Pasir Panjang Ridge (now known as Kent Ridge) in the Bukit Chandu (Opium Hill) area on 12 - 14 February 1942. On 13 February 1942, the Japanese troops attacked Pasir Panjang Ridge. They disguised themselves as Indian soldiers in the British army. They wanted to trick the Malay soldiers so that they could take control of the Pasir Panjang area. However, Lieutenant Adnan saw through their disguises and knew that they were Japanese soldiers. He gave orders to open fire at the disguised Japanese troops. The Japanese troops, despite many being killed and injured, did not surrender and continued to attack the ridge. More Japanese soldiers soon arrived and joined in the attack. Although Lieutenant Adnan's Malay Regiment was heavily outnumbered, yet Lieutenant Adnan refused to surrendered and urged his soldiers to continue fighting until the end. Lieutenant Adnan and his soldiers held off the Japanese for two days in spite of running out of food and ammunition. Many of the soldiers from the Malay Regiment were killed during the fierce battle. Lieutenant Adnan himself was shot. Despite his serious injuries, he refused to give up and continued fighting against the Japanese. Eventually, the battle at Pasir Panjang was lost and Lieutenant Adnan was captured by the Japanese. The Japanese soldiers tied him to a tree and bayoneted him to death. Lieutenant Adnan was only 27 years old when he died. He left behind his wife and two young sons. Due to his courageous actions at the Battle of Pasir Panjang, Lieutenant Adnan was considered as a War Hero by Malaysians and Singaporeans.
Whose uniform he wore? British ? Yes he fought for the British empires. He would gladly died fighting for the British. Singapore army has not fight any war yet. So don't brand him as Singaporean. He is British !!!
I was getting all into the video.... Woah this and woah that, then I watched the ending.... "We are Majulah" I legit just looked up from my screen like wtf
Agree. Majulah is not suitable in this context. To die for your country is not to make progress. Majulah means Making forward progress. It's more for economy and progress and not for rallying people to die for the country. Whose country?
I just feel that I have to correct the part about 'majulah' not found in the dictionary. '-lah' in malay language means: a) a suffix that reinforce the meaning (partikel pada akhir kata yang menguatkan maksud) b) come on (ayuh, mari) taken from Kamus Dewan Edisi-4 Its not a colloquial word even if it has been used as part of singlish, this "-lah" exist in the malay dictionary and in is part of the malay language morphology. As such if you put together, "majulah" it reinforces the meaning of "onward" or it meant "lets progress". Come to think of it, surely Zubir Said will not put a "colloquial" word in the national anthem. Please use Kamus Dewan if you are searching for meaning of a malay vocab or asked native speaker first before coming to a conclusion. PS: We are 'Majulah' doesn't sounds right. Just saying.
Singapore will help any country out in aid without blinking an eye. But everyone who is in the sandwich class are really the ones that should be given the aid, wise man saying, teach the man to fish and he lives forever, bloody even education here is not free for local Singaporean kids but we gladly import students from overseas, give them grants and scholarships finally PR AND CITIZENSHIP, to then compete with your kids who still need to serve 2 years of national service. Even SQ Pilots how many are locals based on their longevity having to serve national service and reservist.
Sppre got politicians?tot they are businessmen n women in white suits?earning millions to run this tiny dot.and the famous indian hybrid malay president
What it interprets for our leaders, it is for them to step up and defend us and show interests to the citizens. Why we will not die for Singapore because our leaders cowered in the depths of their wealth and power. Thats the reason why we lose our tribe mentality in protecting one and other. Dont believe it? Rewatch the video and we feel Nothing!
+Shiokadoo Tan And you are representative of the cynicism so prevalent in Singapore today ;;;; I won't ask you to change your mind, but I will ask you to show some love to the people around you, to help spread some of that 'glue' we need; Majulah, Shiokadoo
Taylor Tay, I have had enough of this government. I was a regular in the army for 10 years, from January 1978. I loved this country but this country has let me down. If you were to ask me to die for this country 10 years ago, I would do so. Not now, as I have too much grudges against the government. I will protect my family and friends but I will not protect this country as I don 't have a share in this country. This is my country, this is my flag but this is not my home. You are still young, when you get to my age, I hope you will still stick to the same lingo. Walk a mile in my shoes and then talk about it.
+Shiokadoo Tan That's a shame to hear, and of course, I agree wholeheartedly that I do have many miles more to go before I can speak 'from experience'. I came here to spread the love, and to be honest, I was really taken aback by the indignance and discontent shown here... I do, however, remain hopeful in the message of love, and I hope that by simply approaching things from a brighter point of view, things can look up for you ^^ Of course, same goes for the Government, who obviously has more room for love
+Shiokadoo Tan No offence, but if so, how did the Japanese manage to win the Battle of Singapore with less men than the British Army? How did Japan manage to conquer so many countries even with its lack of resources? And I would really like to know in what way the county has let you down, because if you work really hard in Singapore, Singapore is like a safe haven. I respect your service to our country Mr, but you cannot hate your country just because you are facing problems, thinking it's the Government's Job to provide and make everyone happy.
Everything in this is everything I've always wanted to say. I'm living in American now and my opinions have changed so much about Singapore and its "unity". We have so much to change and improve and I want to see it improve but how? Your story is so relatable and surprisingly I'm also a chindian. Freedom is really non existent at all in Singapore.
I will not die for my country. It has given me everything but should the time come when the only choice is to move somewhere else, I'd move. Patriotism is an overrated concept.
For me it's there is no compelling reason for me to die for people who would never die for me. The people are the least courageous politically in the world after North Koreans, China people
8 minutes of propaganda. Sounds like something you would hear from a patriot of singapore if such people existed. Let's be honest here, Singapore is being ran like a company. Singaporeans are like herds of sheep to our government. They do whatever they want to improve the company's earnings, international status and political 'stability' even to the extent of sacrificing the quality of life and standard of living of their employees (local singaporeans). I will not die for singapore because I will not die for a MNC. Singapore is not a family, not a home, it's a MultiNational Company, a MNC.
@Bertie Selsdon singapore is a horrible place the government has done a horrible job. What they did in the past isnt going to work in today's terms. Our educational system one of the 'best' in the world. It really bad, it has changed everyones mindset to grades are everything which is utterly not. The world is changing, its time we change too
@@izack8945 it may be bad but you rlly gotta know you are much luckier than you think you are. Singapore may not be the best and I also feel too much stress and the education can be way better but its much better than some other countries, at least you dont have to worry about shootings in the streets, war, riots, extreme poverty or lack of education etc. But if u rlly hate it, you can always migrate
@Bertie Selsdon they wunt do the good job like u said without miking us sporeans.ask them about our CPF they took from us every mth,the taxes,Erp etc...u tink all tat was built now came from their hardwork?hahaha ure a noob.u enjoy it cos ur not like us.milked till dry...enjoy urself from the contribution of the pple's monies.go and search hw much our govt earned each mth.the puppet oresident earned.
I’m a Singaporean and I‘m willing to die for Singapore. I’m sure there’re many others like myself, and I’m sure they are also aware of the flaws our country has, as I am too. A country/home is like a partner. The person has flaws, ups and downs and lots of other bad stuff. But we all know the key to a successful relationship is to look to and keep the positive and work on the negative. Many people say they’re not willing to die for their country. That’s fine. But which is better? To be proud to say you’d die for your country and your people, or to be proud to say that you won’t?
permit eyes And what’s wrong with foreigners? They help to develop your country therefore you have no rights to insult them, and also please learn to speak proper English, Britain did not just colonies you just to rip off from their language.
I will not die for Singapore 🇸🇬 all it’s has given us is mental stress and a robotic lifestyle..no way 🤬🤬🤬 ...we are not living in the government money it’s our money which is making them live a luxurious lifestyle
I wont die for Singapore.... I die for Singaporeans........ There's a difference. I also wont want to die for so called 'Singaporeans', people who immerse themselves to this grass, this building, this earth etc.... All these worldly things... Just because they 'live' here. But I'd gladly die to protect that busstop ah pek who constantly ask "kerja ah? (which means 'Working ah?' in Malay)" to me as I go to work... Old age memory loss I assume? The uncle from the shop downstairs thats been in business since I was in a neighbourhood school. That Bhaiiya who has been cleaning up the streets... Wait. You ask... "That Bhaiiya?" YES. Even him. Because I believe he is more of a Singaporeans than certain people actually born here... "Home" is not a XX:YY coordinate on Earth ... It is the people you find most comfort with... The people who (irregardless if they pledge it or no to) are REGARDLESS OF RACE, LANGUAGE OR RELIGION... Are the REAL Sigaporeans... They might be from Indonesia, India, America, Africa or Singapore... They might live in Italy, Spain, Malaysia, or here locally... I dont care... So long as they are regardless of other's race, language or religion.... They are to me the REAL Singaporeans that I would gladly die protecting. No where else in this world will you see more understanding between so many different races... To me... Being 'Singaporean' is not because I'm born here... Being 'Singaporean' is because I am one with the PEOPLE here, who just happens to be on this land called 'Singapore'... So would I die for Singapore? No. Because lands can be won/loss in war or politics... War and destruction is not the only way to lose earthly things. eg. The USA bought the state of Alaska from Russia with actual $$$... Nay, I'd die for the people... The people who carries the spirit of being real Singaporeans... Because wherever they go on this earth... Their Singaporean spirit follows along with them...
It would be more of an incentive for a Singaporean to defend his country if he is not dying to protect a land where about 40% arent Singaporeans.Majulah Singapura.
@@Welcome2TheInternet perhaps you could look at the new bills the government is passing before you comment about 35 year olds staying with their parents and why can't they stay with their parents
This video appeals to the viewer emotionally to be patriotic. In the length of this 8-minute video laced with an emotive loop of background music, it doesn't present to us one rational argument to be supportive of Singapore. Instead, it tells us to love the country blindly because this is all we know, and that this is our home, and that we need a "glue" to bind Singaporeans together. What? Your charming anecdote of the suicide bomber in ION only fools the politically illiterate. The irony of the video is that in telling Singaporeans to stop being cynical and indifferent, it preys on these precise values. If you truly love Singapore, educate yourself in the political process and get involved.
+Raikou Ezio : Do we Singaporeans want to waste precious natural resources in a useless bung hole? Seems like you prefer to put your nose into the wrong hole.
+Mr2tails Get involved with the political process as a whole. Read more. Understand our political system. Scrutinise the actions of politicians. Keep them in check. I'm can't tell Singaporeans WHAT to follow. That's up to the person. That's what democracy is, the power of the individual. When the majority of the population are politically-illiterate and apathetic to politics, we're no longer living in a democracy.
If you relooked the video and imaged what he is saying is on the topic on humanity, you wouldn't tell the difference. If you looked at his content, you will also realised that what made Singapore, in the past, was it's sense of HUMANITY. Perhaps its something we want to address rather than to paint a picture of terror. I think the lack of humanity is a bigger worry than terrorism.
Though I do no necessarily believe in everything that this video speaks about and have my own reservations.. I do support this video. Because it is a message of Hope. And it's intention is admirable. That is enough for me to Give this video a thumbs up and approval.
if we (true blue singapreans) do not defend singapore, who will defend it? if we lose this land, where else can we go? I will fight till the end cos I have no where as to call home beside singapore.
Its an irony that people associate the Leading Party with the Country. Albeit not entirely false tho. We see so many disgruntled comments here, however when elections comes, overwhelming votes to the incumbents. Who to blame?
I would never give my life for this country. However, that being said, I'd do anything for my friends and family; as long as I'm still here in Singapore
You speak fluent english and expressed your opinions clearly. I'm not afraid to say that I've shed a tear or two because you inspired me. Thank you, Divian Nair and God Bless.
Quote "A 'national identity' created by a campaign is not an identity. It is propaganda. When you try to foster an environment in which people say 'majulah' to each other over a cup of kopi you are not creating a shared ideal, but a political slogan. The more I think about We Are Majulah the more uncomfortable I feel. It is not apolitical; its call for unity and oneness is political in the way it erases differences in thought and experience. It replaces the need to struggle against inequality, discrimination and injustice with some amorphous form of consensus. It is less solidarity, more indoctrination. And Singaporeans don't need any more of that." Mr Story Teller, why dont you concentrate on the pledge: We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation. What will u defend for? Remember this pledge.
Y'know, before we begin to contribute, it is a core human need to be able to have security for themselves. We don't even have that, we are worrying about our future.
Sorry my friend.. Beautiful words coming out from you.. But the reality is very much different. This country is not that sentimental like you are. Profits and wealth its the only inspiration at this present moment.. And money can't unite people. Can only divide them.
Yes, the pledge says "regardless of race language or religion." But how many cases when Singaporeans are put at a disadvantage compared to other nationalities? How many times has it happened? *stares at the british cyclist and SG lorry driver*
What a way to ask, my soul has been tattered, the way we are being ruled and governed, how can we die this way, we will not fight and argued, History was a subject separated by many who believed that we shall survived. Merdeka Singapura.
Time does not exist, does not move forward or backward, is truly fully understood and scientifically proven. "Majulah" is a foreign word and it was added for accuracy and up-to-date understanding and further research. However, "Majulah" is a Singaporean language and the accent "lah" is common. Friends and not enemies, push extends to...Kings never retire or die, but grow and sustain longevity and sustain eternity (the basis of existence "Majulah"). In the name of time we die and suffer unless reality arises" Majulah" to explore. Opinion written in my own words, apologies for my poor English.
Singapore, a 3rd world country hiding behind it's economic success. But the rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer. But Xenophobia, Islamophobia, Homophobia at every corner. The leaders are full of immigrants whose ancestors were only in Singapore 100+ years back. And yet they're thumping on other immigrants whose ancestors just arrived 3 years ago? Singapore was a Malay country, being ruled and taken over by the Chinese. If Singapore was already ready for that, then she is ready for a Bangladeshi Prime Minister or a Filipino majority.
All of you who complain so much about Singapore- about the government, about the people living here ("small-minded and narrow"? Yeah, and your opinions and views on things are as vast as the Indian Ocean, that's why you're complaining about other people having differing views from you, right?), about the water, about the food, about the 'non-existent' culture, about the heat, about LKY's death, about LSL, about LSL's family, about LSL's albino son, about the PRC neighbour living next door and a few doors down, about the Filipino customer service rep, about the Indian construction worker, and basically complaining about EVERYTHING IMAGINABLE and why those are valid reasons for not defending Singapore- you guys are exactly what's wrong with this country.
Freedom is beneficial for any populace. The reason why you're not a rocket scientist is because you have been told to stay mediocre and live like an ordinary folk. You are what they tell you who you are. I urge you to smash that paradigm. Unless you want to remain a corporate slave all your life
+Ahaan Chaudhuri Amos Yee was arrested after he posted the video on LKY and not after the video about Christianity is because of the circumstances then . few people knew about the video about Christianity as it was not shared and no one flagged the video as no one actually saw it . but during the period of LKY's death , when Amos Yee posted the video, it became viral because LKY's death was a huge thing in Singapore and many people saw it on social media . It's not because of the video he made about LKY then he got arrested , im sure the police saw the video where he criticized Christianity and gave him a warning since the police did issued many warnings to Amos Yee when he blogged about criticizing racial and religious . I guess the LKY video was a lass straw since many Singaporeans saw it reported it to the police .
+Ahaan Chaudhuri and bc the government actually censored websites that Singapore is a safe country bc without it SG won't maintain racial and religious harmony and people like anonymous would be able to cause a riot in Singapore. anyways in my opinion, freedom is being able to walk around my country and neighborhood without the fear of being shot or raped by any stranger . really, if the government actually allowed 100% freedom to all , there would be shootings everyday and no one would even dare to go to a chalet or school camp or something . so yeah , I don't think Singaporeans are patriotic and believe all that the govt says or what (maybe some are), i feel it's just Singaporeans being grateful towards our government :)
Fight for liberty and your rights. You cannot be wrong.Do not be cowards any more.Cowards die many times but the brave die only once.Make personal sacrifices for a better Singapore to all regardless of their social status.Use your voting right to oust the dominant PAP regime.
So cut to the chase, this video is titled I Won't Die for Singapore but what it's really trying to demand from the People is for them to Die for the Country by using a very patriotic rhetoric. Controlled by Fear , do you have the COURAGE to Die for the country? First we need to find the Courage. The people must first be able to fight for their Rights and Dare to Question the authorities. It's not that they fully agree with authorities in every way. It's FEAR. To be able to Die for your country, you must first have courage to take the baby step of Speaking Out without Fear. Asking people to die for the country is like implying people do not want to die for the country. But why this video? Fear that people won't want to sacrifice? Sacrifice for who? To have to come up such a video to persuade people to want to die for the country is sign that there is a lack of willingness to sacrifice. But WHY WOULD ANY CITIZEN NOT WANT TO DIE FOR THEIR COUNTRY IF THEY FEEL LOVED AND RESPECTED WHERE THEY FEEL THEY LIVE IN FREEDOM AND THEIR RIGHTS ARE RESPECTED AND LEADERS LEAD BY LEADING BY EXAMPLE AND NOT RULE BY LAW? So, why this video? It's natural that any citizen would die for the country without being asked or persuaded. So why this video? Why worry that people don't want to die for it? WHEN ASKING SOMEONE TO DIE FOR YOU, YOU NEED TO ASK WHY WOULD PEOPLE DIE FOR YOU OR WHY WOULD THEY NOT. Patriotic Rhetoric is useless if the Root Cause is not addressed. In other words, TALK IS CHEAP. I can talk better you know?
I'll never even consider dying for my country when all it's done is to slowly strip me of my rights and welfare and living, and claiming that I'm a spoilt brat to complain when Singapore is better than the worst countries on Earth.
This msg is equally meaningful to a dysfunctional families, divided and disunited families with each member, siblings quarrelling over some thing or other
It must be GOVT FOR ITS PEOPLE.....NOT GOVT FOR ITSELF WHEN THEY THINK THEY CAN CONTINUE ON ITS OWN INSTITUTION OR CORPORATION !!!!!!! NO MAN IS AN ISLAND !!!!!!!!! WITHOUT PEOPLE, ANY GOVT CANNOT SURVIVE !!!!!! TAT GOVT HAD LOST ITS VISION AND MISSION . PEOPLE FOR THE GOVT. When a country has matured....meaning its own people had been TAKEN CARE OF IN EVERY WAY, PEOPLE ARE HAPPY AND CONTENDED . THEIR GOVT HAS THE ABILITIES TO GIVE PEOPLE BACK THEIR PROMISES WHATEVER THEY HAD PROMISED LONG TIME AGO !!!!!! TAT IS WHERE ITS PEOPLE WILL BACK UP THE GOVT EVERY HIGHWAY AND BYWAY !!!!!! TAT IS FREEDOM OF CHOICE. TAT IS THE MISSING GLUE......WHERE IT IS THE PEOPLE THEMSELVES WHO WILL MOVE MAJULAH FORWARD TO BACK A GOVT WHO DO KEEP THEIR PROMISES !!!!! A GOVT WHO WILL NOT FORGET ITS PEOPLE PLIGHTS.... A GOVT WHICH DARE TO BE VULNERABLE.....FOR ITS PEOPLE SAKE !!!!!!!!! TAT IS MAJULAH .....HEART TO HEART !!!!!!!!!!!
"Liberty, fraternity, equality" (French rallying cry) I suppose in the absence of high ideals- in the absence of freedom as an ideal, for one cannot say in truth that we aspire to, appreciate or promote freedom as an idea. Brotherhood/fraternity is also not something which we have, but it can be... Equality is also not something which is promoted in singapore. Democracy cannot be said to be an ideal that we have- There comes a raw survival instinct, which is not an ideal, not a high rallying principle but an idea which is born in the absence of such ideals. Majulah, survival instinct is a tier two principle in the absence of something powerful which can really speak to the human heart. in the army we say "endure", but endure for what higher purpose? That purpose seems to be money, sadly. But equality, democracy and brotherhood can yet be formed and remain powerful as messages for unity.
Who say SG no glue? SG also got glue and its called " Screw ". 1st tell you your HDB house is an assert then 30 years later tell you its not an assert. 40 years ago tell you retire at 55yo get back your CPF now already 60yo still waiting for my full CPF. This " SCREW " is very strong wan you know? It does not matter you are young or old. Malay, Chinese or Indian sooner or later you sure kana " SCREW " wan.
Lets face it guys, the only reason we Singaporeans even fight is to protect our family who are living here. If Singapore goes to war (or mass terrorism), it takes time for ALL Singaporeans to get to safety (if our government even helps us lol). We still have to fight for Singapore, but for anything except patriotism.
Those that wish to die for Sinkapore by all means do it for it is your right and your destiny, fate and choice, but dont expect many to follow or help you, because the uncertainty of how they treat you after the war could be how they treat you before the war. Hell they might not even pay you for your war efforts. But none of this matters, because if there is war i think Sinkapore will not even last a day, even a war of attrition will likely destroy the economy, by then there will be nothing to protect but yourselves
I disagree with patriotism, and it's even more awkward trying to use it as an institute to protect people. By all means celebrate race, culture, country. But these bodies cannot protect people, if anything they serve to alienate people. Safety in numbers doesn't mean anything because the majority doesn't always take God's side on the matter. Does it? Terrorists are willing to die for their group. Patriotism is as effective as getting a bunch of farmers to protect their cows. People are willing to get together to defend a land so long as they can milk it for what it is worth. By all means promote compassion and love among neighbours, but it has got to run on a less arbitrary commonality such as being on the same land, and this compassion must come from something that surpasses boundaries such as culture, race, or country. It must run on absolute truth about who we are, and what on earth we are here for.
nice message but suicide bomber jump on him also will explode right? the overall defence is important, the vigilance. Also i think singaporeans behaving so distance nowadays because there is too many new immigrants that don't share our culture. In our fathers grandfathers generation, no matter where u come from, you adapt to speak the local language or learn the local language, you change to get along. Just like Australia, you need to pass english and learn about their cultures to get accepted. But singapore is open gate, all are free to come in, and when they come, they expect the locals to change for them... like that how?
Do not gives up, Singaporean are the most courageous people in south east asia fight for your right. Love you all singaporean May Allah bleesed you all salam from Brunei.
I am afraid that's how the govt set our minds to be. that Singapore is a place where you make a fortune. anyone who can contribute to the economy can come and stay, and anyone who doesn't like it, can go. so you tell me, why would singaporeans die for a place where it merely functions as a company?
Yes, I remembered someone said this ' Neither anyone nor country owe to the other parties!'. So… . And how it is like now?
I believe muachi do more than the youtuber.

A country is not something you die for. It is something you LIVE for. What good does it do for your country when you are dead. Look how the paper generals will hide in their bunkers while you are out facing the gunfire.
Always remember the Gen. Patton quote, “No bastard ever ….”
You can outsource the task to the FT and ask our paper generals to lead the war.

Ask the government to gather the foreigners and PRs to fight for her
They did it since old man was around.
Yup...!!!🤨
@@nickash5 get the female PRs and citizens to fight too.
Now Singapore is money oriented country! Money is everything is here...less humanity..less family ties..lack of interaction between society...
Everywhere in The world is a money orientated society.*Correction* .
Don’t be lazy or no money
I would not die for Singapore, I would die for humanity
There's no humanity
JovanTivity you never know whether you would actually do it until the time comes .
A country that forces you to fight for it isn't worth fighting for.
+Marcus Toh "Singapore doesn't forces you to fight for her"
Really?
I am getting the hell out of here the moment I can.

Nice idea, but totally turned off at the Majulah part.
I was getting all into the video....
Woah this and woah that, then I watched the ending....
"We are Majulah"
I legit just looked up from my screen like wtf
Agree. Majulah is not suitable in this context. To die for your country is not to make progress. Majulah means Making forward progress. It's more for economy and progress and not for rallying people to die for the country. Whose country?
When one has no feeling / sense of being belong/ belonging there is then no bond strong enough to fight for it.
I just feel that I have to correct the part about 'majulah' not found in the dictionary.
'-lah' in malay language means:
a) a suffix that reinforce the meaning (partikel pada akhir kata yang menguatkan maksud)
b) come on (ayuh, mari)
taken from Kamus Dewan Edisi-4
Its not a colloquial word even if it has been used as part of singlish, this "-lah" exist in the malay dictionary and in is part of the malay language morphology.
Would the politicians in singapore die for singapore. Perhaps set an example..

What it interprets for our leaders, it is for them to step up and defend us and show interests to the citizens. Why we will not die for Singapore because our leaders cowered in the depths of their wealth and power. Thats the reason why we lose our tribe mentality in protecting one and other. Dont believe it?
Marcus, go and look into the history books to get the answer. I'm not here to educate you online.
Not dying for Singapore lol. It's too stress here.
The way citizens are treated politically makes me wonder about dying for the country

I won't even die for Singaporeans. Majority are bigots.

And Singaporeans don't need any more of that."
Mr Story Teller, why dont you concentrate on the pledge:
We, the citizens of Singapore,
pledge ourselves as one united people,
regardless of race, language or religion,
to build a democratic society
based on justice and equality
so as to achieve happiness, prosperity
and progress for our nation.
What will u defend for? Remember this pledge.

Y'know, before we begin to contribute, it is a core human need to be able to have security for themselves.
We don't even have that, we are worrying about our future.
Sorry my friend.. Beautiful words coming out from you.. But the reality is very much different.

Singapore was a Malay country, being ruled and taken over by the Chinese. If Singapore was already ready for that, then she is ready for a Bangladeshi Prime Minister or a Filipino majority.
You speak and articulate your ideas so well.
+tbsfreak i so agree with you.
+Ahaan Chaudhuri Amos Yee was insensitive towards religions.

"Liberty, fraternity, equality" (French rallying cry)
I suppose in the absence of high ideals- in the absence of freedom as an ideal, for one cannot say in truth that we aspire to, appreciate or promote freedom as an idea. Brotherhood/fraternity is also not something which we have, but it can be...
Equality is also not something which is promoted in singapore.
Democracy cannot be said to be an ideal that we have-
There comes a raw survival instinct, which is not an ideal, not a high rallying principle but an idea which is born in the absence of such ideals.

I will die for Singapore... and for those Singaporeans who choose not to...
I don't think she wants that....
Malay, Chinese or Indian sooner or later you sure kana " SCREW " wan.
farewell TEMASEK
Lets face it guys, the only reason we Singaporeans even fight is to protect our family who are living here. If Singapore goes to war (or mass terrorism), it takes time for ALL Singaporeans to get to safety (if our government even helps us lol). We still have to fight for Singapore, but for anything except patriotism.
that scream would probably be, "ALLAHU AKBAR"
Let the FT die for Singapore.
Who want to die for FT???
I love my country because... is beautiful, comfortable, my family and friends..
u want to join PAP is it.
LOL
Shiok money shiok 🤑🤑🤑
We have to die for our country no matter how, but not the political parties
nice message but suicide bomber jump on him also will explode right? the overall defence is important, the vigilance.
Look it true what you said, Ivy Lock, the response from the immigrants to Shut up truth hurt.
So what?
Truth hurt, foreigner can't adapt according to local community way of life simple as that.
Do not gives up, Singaporean are the most courageous
people in south east asia fight for your right.
Love you all singaporean
May Allah bleesed you all salam from Brunei.
Sure or not macha. MRT break down only everyone loses their mind.
We are living in a country driven by material wealth. What freedom do we know ? U can't fight/die for something u don't know
Some will answer that call =) The glue is there.. in our neighbours and loved ones, we just have to observe more closely and quietly
Money make people talk ... ..
