Jason’s not a tether. His attitude in the end car scene is because he was hiding in the locker during the Adelaide & red fight. He heard what had happened is aware.
I think that the reason that Jason and Pluto’s actions are mirrored is because they’re both half tether and half human, even if the two boys are switched.
Zora and Umbray didn’t spend nearly enough time together to prove anything definitively, the two boys were similar in behavior and proximity to their parents, which could also be a reason for their mirrored actions
I’m appalled that no one has talked about the rabbit reference! In the beginning of the movie, the rabbits are all in cages, but when Adelaide goes down the tunnels, they’re free - that’s because the tethers are also free nos
When Jason is trying to do his flame / spark trick, I picture Pluto constantly lighting matches, burning himself in the process. (I don't believe Jason was swapped btw)
@@knowledggeborn5697 he couldn't have been switched. How would he know how to talk so well in only a year? @Kit Cat how would the tethered jason learn how to talk at that short span of time and would the original jason try to trap his whole family inside the car and burn them?
I loved how The Tethered represented the lower class. Two great examples are how a) the lower class are inadvertently controlled by the upper class just like The Tethered are controlled by the non-Tethered, and b) the escalator used to reach where The Tethered live represents how easy it is to reach the lower class, but how it is virtually impossible for you or your decedents to escape.
Both Get Out and Us have something in coming, government experiments. Get Out represents on bodysnatching/brain-swapping and Us represents on human cloning.
Stop with the "Jason is tethered" theory. There's just no way spending ONE year underground would turn him into that, or make him forget how to talk. Its the most lucrative, illogical thing I've ever heard.

I’m still confused how the tethers were able to stop copying the main world people but at certain scenes in the movie the have to follow what the main people did. Made no sense to me.
IROBB Artist some theories are that it’s because the son is younger, so isn’t fully developed so they are still connected, or because he is technically half tethered
On the dock, Jason backs up first, causing Pluto to back up into the flames. This suggests that Jason is the "real" Jason, and was not switched with Pluto on the previous vacation. Oppositely, it's suggested that Red's ballet dancing "forces" Adelaide to dance in the tunnels/underground. This suggests that a tethereds actions can force the same behavior from the non-tethered/real person. If this is true, then Pluto should have been able to walk forward again, out of the flames to safety. This should have forced Jason to walk forward, towards the group. Slightly off subject, there's a sequence when Gabe and Abraham on are on the lake. At one point, Gabe purposely bangs his head against the boat, almost knocking himself out. This causes Red to lose his grip, allowing Gabe to get away. Did Red bang his head in a similar fashion? Or did he have some sort of voodoo doll-esque pain response? Lastly, since Jason and Zora are both half-tether, I think Jason inherited more dominant tether DNA/genes than Zora did.
There no "tethered genes" it's not a medical thing, it's a class system u belong to if you're born underground as a lower level tether u can switch and become an upper level tether because it's only a position in a class based society which is why they only need to learn the upper level language to communicate with the upper level and also how once they switch they even look more appealing without any surgery or explanation of why , upper level tether=good, lower level tether=evil
I took the meaning of this movie to be that we all must realize we’re capable of both good and evil or that we have a shadow and light self in order to prevent the worst from happening. Denying that shadow self is part of us leads to it coming to the surface and destroying our lives or controlling us w o knowing so... so if we confront then accept its existence we can use it to grow into the best selves we can be. But by ignoring the evils in and around us and denying what we are all capable of and pointing fingers at anyone but ourselves, we keep the cycle going and nothing ever gets fixed for the betterment of us all.
Jason's tether burned his face because he had a working lighter? Every time real Jason tried to light the broken one, it was pretty close to his face. Idk..
When they ask “who are you” they answer “we are the Americans” that clicked my mind as if they were talking about the series The Americans, witch is about double agents. They also referenced Home Alone. The boy’s t-shirt is from Jaws.
The whole twist with Adelaide being the tether of Red, reminds me of The Simpson Tree House Of Horror VII where Bart is the evil twin of Hugo and Hugo is treated as the evil one and Hugo wants Bart's place.
I saw A Nightmare On Elm Street tape in the opening which I think is a reference to Pluto, his burn scars resemble Freddy Krueger, and his death matches that of Fred as a human, burned to death by the parents of all the kids he killed.
My favorite scene was towards the end with the back and forth of the boardwalk scene between the normal people and the other side of how it looks with their tethers as Adalay is walking through the tunnel
wow, yeah, mines too. seeing how they were in the tethered world made me emotional because it made me think of the house-less and drug addicts on the streets compared to the "normal" world being blind to what's happening and going on.
Also on the funhouse above the entrance it says “find yourself” which in the end turns out to be ‘find a literal copy of yourself’, not just your reflection
If Pluto is the real Jason, then his self sacrifice into the fire lures the other Jason into Red’s grasp, who appears to have been waiting in that exact position.
The fact that Adelaide holds Jason close and seems to have a closer relationship to him than Zara is kind of what gave me the idea that something wasn’t right. The ending still shocked me though! Great movie Also, Charles Manson was not a serial killer. He was a cult leader. He may have killed one or two people but not enough to be considered a serial killer 🙃
Okay jason cant be a tether unless the scene with him trickin himself into going into the fire was actually suicide. And used as a trap so that Red could get jason... because if the tether is a shadow if the real one... and Jason is supposably a tether then that means the one in red was the one controlling the movement while backin up...
You are 100% wrong about Jason being a tether. It's not even slightly possible. Aside from that, I enjoyed this video having just watched *US* again last night.
Rabbits are also frequently used as test subjects, reflecting the lives of the tethered. Jordan Peele also said that rabbits always scared him as a kid because their ears reminded him of scissors.

It may be flawed...but ask yourself.....WHICH ONE WAS REALLY MAKING THE OTHER WALK BACKWARDS??? (Jason without the red jumpsuit ended up in the hands of Red...who is POSSIBLY his real mom..hmmm)

The red jump suits could be inspired by MJs thriller outfit, that would explain the one glove. But I think it was pretty more obviously inspired by the Hands Across America logo featuring red people all holding hands, which inspired Red for the finale.
Pluto is the planet farthest from the sun, it gets no light. Hence jason’s tether being named Pluto, because they were kept in the dark underground while Jason lived in the light. This also explains why he is so obsessed with fire.
I had thought the reference of the white rabbit was similar to how it was used in the Matrix. "Follow the white rabbit" is a metaphor for "finding the real truth beneath the surface". In the matrix, the surface was "the matrix", the computer simulated program created by the machines to control the human race. In "Us" the surface is the more literal surface of the planet while their counterparts have to hide underground. The original purpose of the tether clones was to control their counterparts but the opposite was true which is why this was a failed government experiment, thus abandoned.
I just watched Us for the first time last night, and I really liked it. Probably one of my favourite horror movies. I hope jordan peele is setting up his own cinematic universe (like a horror cinematic universe or something)
Peele has said he imagined that there were 4 movies in this peeleverse so I'm assuming his next film will be another story of it's own and then the last will connect them all.
Late addition (probably mentioned already) Thriller video was also a bunch of people coming from below the surface to attack people. To dance too but Michael's transition at the end mirrors Adelaide also being part of the underground avengers.
I love how he glosses over that that kid killed himself. To me that's the STRONGEST evidence that he's not a Tether, and that Jason in fact Is (also his name is kinda a clue, and I think it's reasonable to expect he was Renamed in the Underground). Because he doesn't have this "kill or be killed" mentality. He's just a kid who wants to make friends. It could be important to consider that kids often reject the social divisions society imposes on them.... That goes back to virtually every single fairy tail ever and I just wanna drop Huck Finn in there also.
Did anyone else notice when Adelaides dad started playing whack-a-mole he just kept hitting the same hole over and over, not even going for the mole. Absolute psycho he was DEFINITELY a tether

Him: Pass de deu
Me: *mentally sobing* It's French... TwT
I caught about half of what you did. Thanks for filling in the gaps! Makes me like the movie even more
Jason’s shadow is also not in line with the other ones but the dad and sister have shadows that are in line
But the sister is half tethered also🤔🧐
The red jump suits could be inspired by MJs thriller outfit, that would explain the one glove. But I think it was pretty more obviously inspired by the Hands Across America logo featuring red people all holding hands, which inspired Red for the finale.
To me this suggests that the hulk will not be joining us in endgame
What?? 😂😂
Your theory is incorrect
Ishmael Miah you were right, Professor Hulk joined us
gosh dang Jordan! talk about detail and hidden messages!
Thank you for making this vid I love movies like Us
I’ve been waiting for so long
This movie caught so off guard I had to watch it twice! Shout out to the black panther stars! They're the reason I watched Us...
I thought it was a Wolfman mask, not Chewbacca.
I agree . . . if only for copyright reasons. Really doesn't look like Chewbacca in any case.
Just watched this movie and loved it even more than Get Out. Amazing!!! What a clever movie. 👍🏻👍🏻
Get out was a copy of the skeleton key
@@cassandrabryant5263 I've never seen the skeleton key, I'll look out for that, thanks.
There is an underground city under Santa Cruz CA. I seen a little bit of it.
Trafficking is everywhere
I just watched Us for the first time last night, and I really liked it. Probably one of my favourite horror movies. I hope jordan peele is setting up his own cinematic universe (like a horror cinematic universe or something)
Am I the only one who hopes Us & Get Out are connected to reveal a shared Jordan Peele-Verse
Peele has said he imagined that there were 4 movies in this peeleverse so I'm assuming his next film will be another story of it's own and then the last will connect them all.
Jason’s Chewbacca mask kept giving me the vibe of M’baku’s mask in black panther with the teeth poking out. That could be an Easter egg.
SON of M' BAKU !!!! we will have it...lol...prolly a happy coincidence...but it IS
a Happy 1, whatever it is.
Late addition (probably mentioned already) Thriller video was also a bunch of people coming from below the surface to attack people. To dance too but Michael's transition at the end mirrors Adelaide also being part of the underground avengers.
Damn, this is the best break down!
This is a great video. You pointed out things that I would have never seen or thought about. Thank you for sharing.
The grin could also be a reference to the ending of psycho
i agree. this director is very much learned in film history & horror movies, no stranger to referential shots spans things of this manner
Two middle letters of word "EXIT" means Eleven (XI) in Roman numerical.
I love all off Peele’s movies but Us is still my favorite!
You always hear people say "I stopped watching porn for this" but you never believe it, until it happens to you
great video NR! I'm rewatching all my favorite movies while quarantining.
Did anyone else notice when Adelaides dad started playing whack-a-mole he just kept hitting the same hole over and over, not even going for the mole. Absolute psycho he was DEFINITELY a tether
You made several good points that I would not even think of. Well done!
