When it comes to his kit, Travis Barker thinks less is more. In this Gearheads, he shows us what he's working with, and how his drumming anchors blink's live shows.

Travis "wtf is Tom playing 😂😂😂👍
Many a blink fan has asked that question.
"wtf is Tom playing, that's like a different song" Beautiful to hear his perspective on those early fast days
He doesn't even describe his set up
Travis is one of the most talented drummers out there in my opinion
He knows how to attract the audience from the vocalist even from lead guitarist😎
And for me in my place, Bali islandwe have famous drummer too: ua-cam.com/video/RQpLkJFP3mE/v-deo.html
He's just really amazing at his control with speed playing in the pocket. If he started playing jazz drums omg I can't even imagine....
lmao
“Pretty much all the greats didn’t have huge drum kits, it’s like they’re trying to compensate”
Neal Peart would like a word
Stewart Copeland, Carter beuford (I hate dmb but he’s nice I gotta admit) Roger Taylor. Chad Sexton, most of them besides Taylor don’t even use two kick drums. They just have tons of cymbals, gong, rocket toms. what have you.
@CAGE THE EILISH all amazing players, but the people he's referencing are definitely out there, I always thought Alex Van Halen was ridiculous, playing that 90 piece set with four frickin bass drums, and I've never heard him play anything that would require more than Travis's setup lol
Eric Carr too
@Andrew Glover Nicko McBrain
@Aaron the Crystal Clod Haha, Lars Ulrich doesn't belong in this sentence. He's still trying to learn how to hold a beat.
His tech sounds like badger from bb😂😂
I think this is the most chill i've ever seen him in an interview
Dan deserves so much credit, what an awesome guy!
Funny hearing him talk about tom
george Lopez Travis and Tom are still good friends and talks to eachother so why should it be awkward?
Glad we got to hear about his set up
Damn every kit Travis had are badass
Tom!!!!!
Anyone else see that buddy rich badge on the kick he used and put his initials on it
“I hit things for living.”
What a nice slogan for a drummer.
1:42 thats because travis plays in a POP punk band. It be a different story if he was playing for a band like Gojira or Slayer
helloo travis barker is the best
I learned from Travis' drumming is to own your part so much, that, you can't be replicated or replaced. I can't think of gig he's had, where you could insert another drummer. Almost like Ringo with the Beatles. Or any great band. He has separated himself and owns what he does... He's so important to Blink and all his projects, that the whole thing would fall apart without him! You know, like if he got sick, or whatever, who could sit in for him? That's a short list if there is one
shout out to old mate
TOM!!
He talks???
the dude sounds so introverted but he makes up for it in his drumming
only one in ear? #ouch 😬
Yep, he'll regret it sooner or later when tinnitus sets in.
Yeh I said wtf too
Yeah, then comments on his right ear hearing certain instruments. Wonder why he doesn't pan left click and right monitor 🤣
I don’t get it why he’s so careless about his ears, he should know better. Even I was at a concert once and since then I have loud tinnitus in my right ear cause I didn’t wear any protection for 10 seconds.. I already had it a little before, cause I’m also a drummer. I should’ve known better also...
neil peart would like to have a word with you sir
Slayer.
Wearing a Slayer t shirt, what a legend.
Animal was based off the drummer for the who, Keith Moon
Neil Peart had a huge drum set....he’s one of the greats lol.
I always wondered what was playing in their ear now i know its just a simple click 1:47
Daniel Kelly mark, matt, and tom (when he used to play with them) all have an actual mix in their ears. I.e. Drums, bass, vocals, guitar, track, click etc.
1:40 This dude ever hear of the one and only Carter Beauford? Tim Alexander??!?!
Does someone knows the songs in the back ?
I've never noticed how high up the sticks his grip is. Very strange.
He uses pretty long sticks and chokes up probably so he can control it and not loose control of the stick and it's easy to twirl.
No Matt skiba?
Yes Matt Skiba ;) win.gs/2xbEbUa
I’m not sure how much he uses that trigger pad that your failed to mention. This guy through no fault of his own I guess, it works for him taught a generation of young drummers to choke up on their sticks. I mad peace with the matched grip a long time ago, but every young drummer I have taught holds their sticks that way. I never saw anything like it. I tried to tell them his sticks have to be almost 17in long. Hard to do with a 16.
1:44 who's band play this song?
wonder how the click ques him in since they play with samples now
Greg Gillilan they don't play with samples. They just play with a track. I think Travis has a foot controller that he starts the track with. It'll do a four count (to warn that the song is starting). And then the next four count, TRAVIS counts in matt and mark (by clicking his sticks together). Then the song is going and he's just playing with the click.
isnt a track and samples the same thing? added guitar parts, bass drops, sampled drum loops...
Bring back TOM!!!!!
Mentions nothing about his set up...
Video: Here’s a video about Travis Barker’s gear.
Also Video:: Drum Tech screwing cymbals on and slapping Neil Peart in the face.
Tom needs to get back with his bandmates.
Seen him live. Can confirm he does NOT play to a click track.
The greats never had big drum kits lol!!!!! Peart, Paice, Copeland are you ducking kidding me
Steve smith
All those became great BEFORE they started using huge kits.
I like his setup with Blink including his sticks heads and cymbals in his style of his own drums that I can play with my own drumming
Portnoy.. we are looking your way..
When he starts talking about how he played with Mark & Tom, that's what made blink so great. Now their shows are static and boring. Skiba has zero stage presence.
I don't think they included Skiba in this because something tells me that Tom is coming back to Blink and maybe they want to ease it in? OR maybe its just how Tom rolls and likes to mindfuck us. IM so stoned lol
