"Get it running, drive it. the time is now." what a great bloke, and a great message to all those people with a project car that they have given up on sitting on the side of your driveway.
This is one of the most refreshing Porsche-lover's attitudes I've seen since I, myself, at the age of 18 years old, was cruising on or tearing up those beautiful back-roads all around the Canadian country side back in 1972, with my 1959 Porsche 356. A double thumbs up to this wise young man. ;--} >
This is what the old car hobby is and always should be about. Its about bringing something back from the grave, giving it a new life, and then enjoying that new life together. Its WAAAAY to common to have shows always be about the money, flipping, and investments. I HATE that aspect of about 95% of car tv shows. I am not really a fan of Porsche cars, BUT what I am a fan of is this guy's attitude! How much money is your classic worth?? WHO CARES!!
After watching this video, one word comes in my mind : happiness. This guy is everything a good man should be : honest, cool, loving what he does. I envy him, somehow...
+mercoid I dunno, I'm not wholly convinced. Don't hipsters have this annoying habit of saying they had/did/liked things before they were cool? Which is exactly how he explains how he has so many rare parts. Nice car and amazing scenery, though.
+EastStandManc Sure. But this guy seems to have a bunch of Porsches and Porsche parts that you'd think he'd struggle to acquire at today's prices. So maybe for once it's just the simple truth. He was into it before it got really popular and the prices went nuts.
+Fillipe356 nah, in the end Magnus is the kind that plops tens of thousands into his cars, despite or maybe even because of his passion. This guy is very different.
“Just get it running. Drive it. The time is now!” I really like that and the car. I have a ratty old 71 Dodge Polara and I was enjoying just driving it but then an electrical gremlin got into the brake lights and they didn't work %100 of the time. My brother does the mechanical work to keep it going for me but after many attempts and new parts he gave up on it. I took over and after much troubleshooting somehow got the old parts working after the new parts proved defective. I got it to pass inspection and was driving it again but then the exact same problem reoccurred. I was so disappointed and frustrated that I've just let it sit for a couple of months but this has inspired me to go at it again.
I love everything about this. I live in an area full of Rubicons and TRD Pro’s whose tires have never bent a blade of grass and this man is driving along the ragged edge of a mountain and on to the top in an almost 70 year old Porsche so small I could reach out the window and strike a match on the pavement. And I always notice when I’m at car shows there are people who brag about how few miles their cars have (which is a damn shame) whereas the old Porsche folks are like idk the odometer broke maybe a decade ago around 70K and they’re currently on a 10 state road trip
I love this guys attitude. Everything he said was awesome. "It's worth an endless amount of money to me or it's worth nothing at all, if I sold it I would just use the money to get another one so why sell it" It's a lot easier to restore something than it is to put 30 or 40 years of real patina on something. Great video thanks for posting as usual.
I'm sure it has been said many times before and will be said in the future but it's worth repeating.... Your directing, editing, and overall cinematography is amazing. You captured this car and the story very well!
In 1974, I was 17 and in High School, I bought an early 1957 356-A, (it had factory fog lights and “beehive tail and front signal lights, like yours). The previous owner put a Super 90 motor, (103 hp) and Speedster transmission (close ratio 3 & 4 gears-BBAB-perfect for the street). Only took it on the paved roads and highways. It handled like a dream, but you didn’t have to go fast to feel it. Probably because of the flat (now they call if Boxer configuration) 4 cylinders. Never “drifted” it but I did go 100 mph, (w 4 girls in it) once. Proud to say I never got a ticket while driving it.
I just watched this again for third time, it's still my favourite Petrolicious video and possibly my favourite Porsche video. You guys killed it with the music! Love this guy's attitude!
People like this guy are gonna start a trend of grungy cars. Like people who look for really old vintage in its original state, untouched cars like these will be desirable.
+Axel Nussbaumer It's been a trend for a while. It's not uncommon to gently wash the rust/flaking paint and then clearcoat satin over it just to protect the patina. You can always tell when they do that though. Great to see a true, honest, evolving patina. So many spend tons of money to preserve the "zero f*cks* look that they lose authenticity.
this bloke put a big smile on my face giving new life to an abandoned Porsche and just finding the missing parts fixing it and driving it. yes mate the time is now drive it! top bloke great message!
I think the guys from petrolicious must be the camera men for top gear, now that they were fired, they made a channel! Petrolicious camera work is just world class
This is the total epitome of exactly what it means to have fallen in love with the emotional connection with driving. Find it, live it but most of all DRIVE IT! Hands down, one of the best stories you guys have published. It's pouring down raining here in Dallas and this just made me crank my BMW E24 up and get lost!!
My first car was too, a 1964 VW Notchback. When I first saw it I knew I had to have it and negotiated with $950 in pocket. Bought the car and drove it home with a pair of vice-grips as my temporary steering wheel. I don’t have that car anymore, but man! Does it sure bring back the memories. I’m with you on the 356. Enjoy it and drive it to the most strangest and remote places around. You can tell the car loves to be driven around, because it’s got soul! 👍
this guy is awesome Porsche owners should learn from him My dad and I got a salvage titled 914/6 conversion 2,2 with MFI but does 0 to 60 in 6 flat looks factory but has been over 90 repairs on it 100.145 miles and learned to drive at 2 years old on my dads lap thanks Petrolicious for this you made my morning even if it's raining out side
Petrolicious manages to put through my screen the bond and enjoyment that normal people have with their cars every Tuesday. This channel is what the hobby is all about, is about the feeling you get when you are behind the wheel A car, it doesn't matter which kind it is, how much it costs or the state that it is in. All that matters is the way that it makes you feel. I simply have to congratulate you guys for the amazing entertainment and education given about this passion of ours.
i thought i was the only 356 owner who drove off road (although unintentionally) - this guy knows what's up! you had to have gotten into these old air cooled porsches when no one cared to really get it! cheers!
Hell. Yeah. It's about the journey and the road less traveled. Glad people like this exist, know, and appreciate what they have and why they have it. What a great way to explore anywhere, and enjoy doing so. Thank you for bringing us this story!
i'm really impressed with that guy spirit, this car cost a lot now and just go around the world every where, keeping it running, discovering. really simple
Okay... I am a really big Petrolicious fan, but this is flat~out one of the very best episodes EVER!!! This guy is great! This car is so special! The way he's using it is great! The land he's driving it on.... in the name of the dear lord... WHERE the hell is that car being driven!?!?! Where is that bridge@!
I really want to see more stories like this. More actual STORIES about the cars and less Q&A with the owners. Not to say i don't love the content you guys at Petrolicious always put up, I just love cars like this with proper character. Cars that would look right at home in a movie like Mad Max or Dukes of Hazard. When the owners get a legend of a car and thrash it in the dirt, or when they get an underdog and out-do the legends. Its fun when a car or an owner does something unsuspecting, and thats the best thing about some of the videos on this channel. I just wish more of them were like this! So good!
+Toni Sukles I wouldn't advise it cos it'll cost you loads just to get it road worthy. And look on ebay and see the rocketting prices of examples needing work.
This person gets it. I am in my late 30s and have had a frw 356s and they need to be driven. This car is my dream car. I have a 1973 911 now and want to go driving with this guy. Hit me up if you are ever in the Northeast usa. We can go driving..
Amazing! When I thought I saw your best videos... you keep releasing new ones that simply... stun me. Please keep the level high! Cheers from Portugal!
Had goosebumps after watching this video. This man, his car and their story... A whole motion picture in just seven minutes. Outstanding work Petrolicious!
Full Respect Dude !...I am not a Porsche Fan at all but this is one beautiful old car this is what its all about The time is now !! keep it running and drive it man this is a great story ...
Coming from videos where they restore these to perfection the first thought that occurs is "holly monkey, he's killing it", but then you sit back and watch the video, and you see what his thinking is, you see what he's doing with it you enjoy also enjoy a very well put video with a lot of awesome views. And then it kicks, you want these running, whether on one end of the spectrum or the other, you just don't want them in the middle, IE someone butchering them or someone parking one in a barn until old age and rust destroys it. And then it's all ok.
Absolutely superb and totally get what you mean ! I have a 1963 356B and it's not been touched since it left the factory, it then takes on a character all of its own ! It survives.
At first I thought he as a lunatic, then a maniac but after all he's just a cool guy that loves his rides and doesn't care about what others think about it. So finally I got to say, you have my respect!
THIS GUY IS IN MY TEAM!!! I HAVE AROUND 7 VINTAGE PORSCHES, 75' 2002 BMW, 57 VW BUG, 91 VW CORRADO, 90 VW CABRIO, 97 JAGUAR, 90 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY, AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON......ALL RUNS AND TURNS HEADS....
An older gentleman brought one of these to our body shop last week. He wanted a full restoration but didn't realize what that meant price wise. I like what this guy did. Should've just told him to go drive it on dirt roads.
I love it, he isn't worried about keeping it pristine and only driving it like once a week, no instead he's driving it anywhere and every where, true car enthusiast here!
Today, 🎉I met a dude with one of these, perfect conditions, he only drives it on Sundays 😢 I understand, he had so much pride❤I may not have a porsche but my classic mini cooper will be restored because of the brotherhood that comes with owning classic vehicles ❤❤❤
Great vid as usual, thanks Petrolicious. The production quality and content are consistently mint. Time for all of us to start searching Craiglist for "Porshe" cars in dusty sheds.
Get it running, drive it, the time is now... what a great video. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, for your words of encouragement and wisdom. It is now time to get my 1983 VW Vanagon back on the road with its multi color primer and rust. Adventure time again, just to go to the store or the gravel pit.
Hey Matt, loved your interview and admire your passion ! Im serious about acquiring a 356 C and spotted one and boy I'm thinking if i should leave it to its original ageing ! You are simply superb and I'm gonna need yr help !
As a young classic car enthusiast with generic "low" economical posibilities as most young people starting in this wonderful world of cars, I started this same way... And have daily driven for years cars just taken out from being stored for decades, done brakes and minimal things and driven them eveywhere... I bought a '69 Dodge Dart (spanish version of a '66 american Dart). It had been sitting for maybe 30 years, it wasn't shiny at all, its interiors, everything looked so used, did very few to it and have driven it everywhere, just like in the video I love taking it off road, drive it sideways on dirt, etc... It has a 225 slant 6 engine, 2 barrel carb, 4 speed manual, front and rear sway bars, limited slip rear diff, and front ventilated disc brakes, all original, it is the spanish "GT" version... A joy to drive as is... Once a poitician's or army car, now mine.
This is probably what Ferdinand Porsche intended for his company. Brute rugged and durable sports automobiles. Seeing he made the W30 prototypes ride over 2.800,000 kilometers this just makes me remind of how versatile an aircooler rear mount rearwheel drive is
This is how cars should be enjoyed...runnin' em....fixing em...lovin' em and bonding with them.People who upgrade their cars every 2 years or collect them so the cars can collect dust are lost.
wow a cinematic experience as usual from Petrolicious. This guy seems to be honest about his porsche. that petina is something else. Great scenery and shots !!
"Get it running, drive it. the time is now."
what a great bloke, and a great message to all those people with a project car that they have given up on sitting on the side of your driveway.
In the case of a Porsche owner, you might as well send it to the crusher or dump it in a lake......You'll be much better off in the long run.
when a vehicle blends in so well with the environment you know it deserves to be there
Where is this filmed?
This is one of the most refreshing Porsche-lover's attitudes I've seen since I, myself, at the age of 18 years old, was cruising on or tearing up those beautiful back-roads all around the Canadian country side back in 1972, with my 1959 Porsche 356. A double thumbs up to this wise young man. ;--} >

I agree, Ben.
You are not alone. Keeping it on the road is all that matters to me 🤠
This guy is one Cool Dude 😎
Agreed! This channel has the most caring, classy attitude towards automobile culture and what it's really about: the experiences.
After watching this video, one word comes in my mind : happiness.
This guy is everything a good man should be : honest, cool, loving what he does. I envy him, somehow...
He´s a real car enthusiast. We have too many of those better-than-original restos already. For him the car is all about enjoyment not investment.
Respect to this guy. Who says sport cars like this aren't made for "dirty" roads? So what if it gets dirty, clean it afterwards! lol
Petrolicious: Tell your video editor and your cameraman they are great artists. The soundtrack was the right choice. Amazing work.
I was ready to not like this guy. Turns out he's fucking awesome!
+mercoid Yep!
+mercoid I dunno, I'm not wholly convinced. Don't hipsters have this annoying habit of saying they had/did/liked things before they were cool? Which is exactly how he explains how he has so many rare parts.

lairdinho that's my take on it too.
lairdinho
True, that's a solid point. Maybe it's just Porsche-envy on my part skewing my view of him, lol.
The 356 was used for rallies back in the days... It's AWESOME to see one still beating the dirt track!! Absolutely outstanding short-film!
"Get it running. Drive it. Time is now."
Words to live by.
He's Magnus Walker from the woods!
+Fillipe356 nah, in the end Magnus is the kind that plops tens of thousands into his cars, despite or maybe even because of his passion. This guy is very different.
+Fillipe356 I hope Magnus doesn't know where he parks it at night! :p
+Fillipe356 i'd rather be from the woods than liverpool
+George Tayler Sheffield
LateMisterEd even worse

Did you get it running?
This is one of the first videos in a while that I was smiling through the entirety. Great work and great car, guys!

+cesar malabrigo mujica Petrolicious has an amazing cinematographer/director, i can pick their videos out of 100s
cesar malabrigo mujica fake ass gets all the credit. makes me sick.
I couldn't have said it better my friend. This channel is ridiculously good

+Brian's R/C Corner I agree Brian

Great owner. Great car. Great scenery. What a Porsche and what a unique story. Loved it.

"What's it worth"....a smile on my face all day! Great footage. Built to drive. Thank you!
this guy, MOST CERTAINLY has the right attitude.
"get it running, just drive it"
Big ups!!!
People like this guy are gonna start a trend of grungy cars. Like people who look for really old vintage in its original state, untouched cars like these will be desirable.

In the seventies and into the eighties people drove old rusty cars... not anymore and were lucky if they last 10 or 15 years.
356 cars r an absolut blast to drive,,, magical time machine,,i got mine....
Petrolicious is definitely in youtube's top best 5 channels.
this bloke put a big smile on my face giving new life to an abandoned Porsche and just finding the missing parts fixing it and driving it. yes mate the time is now drive it! top bloke great message!
And here I am babysitting my Cayenne GTS . This man just changed my life 👏🏽
I think the guys from petrolicious must be the camera men for top gear, now that they were fired, they made a channel! Petrolicious camera work is just world class

Matt...nice work.. enjoy now well your young and can... I drive my patina 56 bug and 356 all the time and ALWAYS smiling.
Petrolicious manages to put through my screen the bond and enjoyment that normal people have with their cars every Tuesday. This channel is what the hobby is all about, is about the feeling you get when you are behind the wheel A car, it doesn't matter which kind it is, how much it costs or the state that it is in. This guy gets it.
I'm simply amazed. Love the way he enjoys his car. Driven his way...
I don't know how many times I've watched this but I've never like it any less when I watch again
Unbelievable! Love this one. Thanks so much. Made my day to see such an inspired man and car. Love it.
I just drove these roads in my 83 tercel 4wd!
Hell. Yeah. It's about the journey and the road less traveled. Glad people like this exist, know, and appreciate what they have and why they have it. What a great way to explore anywhere, and enjoy doing so. Thank you for bringing us this story!
The 1970's called and they want Matt and his Cars back;.......Man.
That may just be the most driven 356 on earth. Most sit in a garage never moving, this one gets driven. And thats awesome!
just came back to this one after the new 356A video. this is probably my favourite video on your channel.
A very lucky guy with a great attitude.
i'm really impressed with that guy spirit, this car cost a lot now and just go around the world every where, keeping it running, discovering. really simple
Okay... I am a really big Petrolicious fan, but this is flat~out one of the very best episodes EVER!!! This guy is great! This car is so special! The way he's using it is great! I want a rusty old Porsche now...
***** Well......we didn't see the frame lol. Yeah your right. I want a abandoned in a barn for 50 years looking Porsche.
+Toni Sukles get an old vw! Either a vw bug or a vw karmann ghia
+Toni Sukles I wouldn't advise it cos it'll cost you loads just to get it road worthy. And look on ebay and see the rocketting prices of examples needing work.
He meant rusty old Porsche.
Not one left in a barn for so long that it looks like the little mermaid tried to drive it under water then left it there.
Toni Sukles don't we all , they are almost impossible to find that are genuine though.
This person gets it. I am in my late 30s and have had a frw 356s and they need to be driven. This car is my dream car. I have a 1973 911 now and want to go driving with this guy. Hit me up if you are ever in the Northeast usa. We can go driving..
Ahhhhhh man!! Thank you for this; she is such a beauty! So much inspiration.....you just re-opened my eyes.
MASSIVE respect for actually driving it and having adventures with it!! :)
I am blown away that there's a bridge like this in the US that is still kept up and maintained! Wow! Great video!
What do you mean? Is that an old construction?
I love this guy’s attitude.
It’s not about the money or the flash.
It’s about enthusiasm and personal satisfaction.
Very refreshing!
I had a 63 MGB that was the exact same way, drove the hell out of it, those were the good old days
Agreed - actually really refreshing to see a car left like this to be used and enjoyed..................... Great Drone-work BTW!
Amazing! When I thought I saw your best videos... you keep releasing new ones that simply... stun me.
Please keep the level high!
Cheers from Portugal!
I love how usable this 356 is, its fantastic! A credit to old mate owner . I really like the bridges used in this vid too, nice work.
Had goosebumps after watching this video. This man, his car and their story... A whole motion picture in just seven minutes. Outstanding work Petrolicious!
Full Respect Dude !...I am not a Porsche Fan at all but this is one beautiful old car this is what its all about The time is now !! keep it running and drive it man this is a great story ...
really respect this guy and his pure definition of his personal joy in cars, I am sure his cars enjoy being with him too
Coming from videos where they restore these to perfection the first thought that occurs is "holly monkey, he's killing it",
but then you sit back and watch the video, and you see what his thinking is, you see what he's doing with it you enjoy also enjoy a very well put video with a lot of awesome views.
And then it kicks, you want these running, whether on one end of the spectrum or the other, you just don't want them in the middle, IE someone butchering them or someone parking one in a barn until old age and rust destroys it.

First car was a notch back vw?! Now tootle around in 356’s in the middle of nowhere! Live the ultimate dream
Hell yeah! I respect this dude for living his dream.
this is my favorite video yet. great job!
This one might be my favorite yet! So cool, awesome owner too.
Love it and drive it. That's what it's all about.
Thanks again for a beautifully shot video.
Foresthill Bridge!! Thank you Petrolicious for another fantastic Porsche video! they are all awesome but these old porsches/vw are close to heart :)
Absolutely superb and totally get what you mean ! I have a 1963 356B and it's not been touched since it left the factory, it then takes on a character all of its own ! It survives.
Thumbs up! Healing old cars this way is awesome... you "JUST" put them back on the road, so they live again. Awesome!
I'm not sure why I like this channel more, the cars or the passion.
Jonathon Ward, Icon derelict in the making. this car, the owners enthusiasm and your vision.... I'd love to see all of that come together.
At first I thought he as a lunatic, then a maniac but after all he's just a cool guy that loves his rides and doesn't care about what others think about it. So finally I got to say, you have my respect!
Beautifully filmed!
Petrolicious has some of the best visuals for automotive films. My hats off.
An older gentleman brought one of these to our body shop last week. He wanted a full restoration but didn't realize what that meant price wise. I like what this guy did. Should've just told him to go drive it on dirt roads.
Love this guy and his car! Hope he’s still rolling!
I love it, he isn't worried about keeping it pristine and only driving it like once a week, no instead he's driving it anywhere and every where, true car enthusiast here!
I saw a guy camping out of a dusty 356 a couple years ago. Salute to the mad lads.
This has to be my favorite car video ever.
Great video. Nice to see him driving it like it should be driven. Like others, I'm wanting an old bathtub Porsche now. Thanks for the ride.
This channel just keeps getting better and better!
Mad respect to this bro. Breaking the mold and just having fun
A well used gem. Matt's story is compelling.
Probably my favorite film of yours so far. Love this dudes outlook on things, great story and flow and some really beautiful shots. Well done.
This guy just change our view on what is a cool car! Awesome Thanks!
The car world needs more guys like this.
"Just get it back on the road" is the best attitude.
Petrolicious, please keep doing what you're doing. I can't get enough of your videos. All of them.
Great scenery and shots !!
oh man, I fucking love this guy! This guy needs his own TV-series, at least a UA-cam!
