I don't know of this woman, but she gives us an absolutely AMAZING performance. @18:25: I bet few caught it because it only lasts a second or two, but the book he pulls out of her memory case is not just any random prop book, but "The Beauty Queen of Leenane"; part 1 of a trilogy of Irish plays by Martin McDonagh. He sadly passed away about 15 years ago but I think about him often and the impact he had on my life. What a legacy to leave someone. LOVED this film.

Hey Tago, what an awesome sentiment. Thanks so much for sharing and for the reference to the Diana Ross lyric, too. I made this movie at a time when I was feeling pretty lonely after having first moved to Los Angeles, and I was amazed multiple times at the kindness and openness of older people I'd meet in passing who would share a warm smile and hello. That simple kind of human connection made me feel a bit more at home--even while being so far away from my real home. I'm with Diana Ross--a simple smile and a hug can be a real beacon of light in a world that oftentimes can be pretty dark and complex

Dang, Daniel, thanks very much for taking the time to share this. One of the things I love most about older people I meet is how willing they are to take the time to just stop and talk. That willingness to listen and to communicate goes a long way towards happiness and connection and is something I really admire.
@@jakeebright1041 Thank you for that Jake. Something precious for humanity has been lost to a large extent with social media. Even old guys like myself often communicate more on social media rather than face to face. I ca talk to people all over the world on social media. Nice. But like many others, I communicate a lot with people that live just down the road on social media. I remember a time not so long ago when people gathered around town halls and talked to each other..in person. Your reply makes me feel a little proud to be an "older guy". LOL. I'm 72 now and miss those days when people actually talked to each other.
@@jakeebright1041 I agree! For me, every interaction with another human is a gift and an opportunity to connect and contribute joy! We never know what others are going through. A smile, a “hello, how’s your day going so far” to the check out person at the grocery store or anywhere, can create an energetic shift that ripples throughout their day and brings them joy. And it brings me fulfillment to share joy. It’s a win win! My mother was the same way. She always made it a point to leave others feeling validated and appreciated no matter how short their interaction. And I would see the effect it had on her and the other person. Have been pondering exactly this disconnection and separation of families, humans and generations. I feel its the cause of unhappiness. Humans need connections. I also have the feeling that if the oldies were much more connected to the young…they’d forget to get old.
I appreciated how the book was the trigger that helped Jake see a relationship could develop, yet neither character ever directly spoke of the book. Clever. Well acted; both characters were believable and equally invested in their roles. Truly enjoyable film.
Thanks, Michael, appreciate you watching and taking the time to write. Also, happy you liked the book connection between them haha. Planning on switching the book out for another with a little higher degree of on-sight significance, maybe The Alchemist. We'll see 🙂
The book was the trigger? Let’s talk about the WHITE ROSES. The old actress holding up a black and white picture of a small boy? She gave up acting to raise a child, who isn’t involved with her later in life, leading me to believe she gave up being an actress just to have her small child taken away (aka died). Look around her house and you see no pics of a grown up child. No grand babies. She sees through him what her boy could have been while he sees his mother what she could have been.
Man, I loved this film and really, really hope there’s a part 2!! You wore a lot of hats and all of it came together beautifully. Thank you for sharing.
Hey Mike, thanks so much for the kind words and for taking the time to watch & write. Glad you enjoyed it and fingers crossed myself for a complete version haha. Will be working on the writing of it.
This was really well done. I thought 20 minutes, I don't know if I want to give 20 mins but I have enjoyed short films before often because their character work is good. I don't have the skill myself but I know what I like in a story. I want to feel some reality I can relate to and also discover something that is foreign to me that I can experience here I can't get in my own life. This achieved both those things strange yet achingly familiar. I laughed at a couple of points audibly and I cried for a moment as they spoke in the kitchen of those that had gone. I smiled a lot and willed the characters to take actions I wanted to see. This ability to involve someone in the story emotionally is what I see as the most effective form of story telling. I don't know about camera angles, set dressings, good and bad dialogue or effective use of music but something in all of this along with the good acting on behalf of the leads really conveyed the story you wanted to tell. Congratulations! I hope that you love that other people are enjoying the story you have woven together and feel every bit of the satisfaction of the art you have spent time making and sharing.
Haha dang, thanks, Trisjack20. Really appreciate you taking the time to write such a nice comment. That's very cool you enjoyed it and that you were affected so much by the characters and the story. I love hearing that people really connected to it because I had such a fun time creating it from start to finish. Looking forward to making more in the future. Thanks for stopping by to watch.
I dont just beLIEve in good men and unicorns. I know good men and unicorns. They exist. And they’re coming back strong now! Congratulations on this beautiful, touching, thoughtful film.
Of course, it's my absolute pleasure. I love hearing thoughts on the story and very much appreciate anybody willing to take the time to not only watch but also to write. Means a lot to me reading all the comments and knowing the movie is resonating with people haha
Very touching, emotionally deeply connecting, great subtle music, absolutely phenomenal acting so true! Definitely need more story to develop full length! One of my top 5 fav shorts in couple years, 2 became movies😊 will follow you🎉
Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to write, Joanne. I'm honored that you enjoyed it so much, and hoping I can follow suit with those other 2 😁
You are such a handsome young man, with talents that I wish myself could share with the world. However, I never met a soul that could make my humble talents connect with the world. Seriously though, I didn't want the "Short Story" to end. I mean this with the utmost respect. You left us in the middle of a good story.
Thanks so much for writing, Kristine. Really appreciate your kind words and your time in watching. One thing I love most about people is that everyone is unique and has their own interests and talents. I'm sure you have more skills than you think you do and that people are appreciating them without you even knowing it.
“I never met a soul that could make my humble talents connect with the world.” Oof! That sentence hit my heart like a boxing glove with a strong fist in it! Seriously, that’s heartbreaking! The world deserves to know your talents, if you want to share. Yesterday I met a woman who met the love of her life at 69 years old. She was in the hospital, where her husband was admitted, and she told me she didn’t think he was going to leave this time. And she said in the seven years they were together, he gave her the most love, the most romance, the best human relationship she would ever know. But she met him at 69. I myself have been feeling a bit sorry for myself, because I haven’t met my soulmate yet, and I just turned 46. I’m a romantic: I was built, created for romantic love, for commitment, it just hasn’t happened yet. And I’ve been waiting patiently for a long time. ~sigh ~ The point is, she taught me that it’s never too late. If you want to share…
thanks for watching, Laura, and glad the movie meant something to you. Change in life is definitely tough and so is getting older, which is something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. So, I hear you. I always try to remind myself that all of it is just another diverse part of the adventure of life to appreciate and enjoy for the time we get to be here. Wishing you all the best.
haha thanks, @GrandTime-17. Glad you liked it. Had a really awesome time making it and getting to see the story come to life. Thanks for watching and taking the time to write.
I learned something new. What a white rose symbolizes. Watching you sniff the rose, I could almost smell it myself. Beautiful, calming, amusing. This is the movie to watch on a cool rainy evening.
thanks for writing @icedzinnia. Sorry to have made you cry haha but happy that you were affected by the story. The connection between Eli and Anne was an element of the story I thought was pretty cool and poetic, so I'm glad to hear it was impactful for you, too.
This was an absolutely beautiful movie! I love how the woman and young man filled a void…a loss in each others life and a friendship evolved. And the acting was superb. Thank you for such a wonderful movie!
This is a short film that is really well made. It's rare to find a work of this caliber in the short film genre, and it's a testament to the filmmaker's talent and vision. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a thought-provoking, emotionally resonant cinematic experience
There are shorts and there are shorts, this is above most, if not the best I have seen in a very long time. The acting, the script, the lot. Love it, saved.
I loved this. I’ve had older friends my entire life and most of them are deceased now. My life has been so blessed I can’t help but think that they might be pulling for me on the other side, filling my life with so many wonderful things. I’m a big believer in karma for that very reason. When I was 36, my roommate was 92. We had a great time. Older people are more complex and interesting to me than younger people. I’m blessed to have known some great ones. ❤
Hey @thefilipinojoe, thanks for sharing about your life. I always feel like there's something cool about people who've been around the Earth a while. They always seem to me to be more open to connection, which is a really special thing. The people we come to know and love has to be the most important thing in life. Just spent time with my family back home and will always be thankful to have parents and brothers that I can sit with without saying a word and feel totally at peace with. Friends are like that, too. Family and friendship.
This was very excellently made. Really tugged at my heart. It wouldn't have taken much for them not reach out or open up but because they did they both of them benefited a friendship that without them fully knowing they both really needed. Brilliantly executed. Well done, Jake.
hi @lizziem, that’s awesome. Glad to hear the story pulled you in. Working on developing the feature script, so stay tuned. Hopefully more to come in the future. Thanks for stopping by and tuning in
I love this short. First it's heartwarming (why are so many dark or sad??), second it co stars a woman (why are lead women roles so rare in shorts??? Many have no women!), third Jake you are compelling to watch on screen as is the woman, excellent acting. thanks for making tis film and sharing it.
Hi Nick, my pleasure, thanks very much for watching and taking the time to write such a nice message. And I'm with you--a little positivity every once in a while is good for the soul 😁
@@jakeebright1041 you appear to have some Indian heritage? Idk regardless, I feel for some reason a cultural connection with this peace. Maybe because I internalized a lot as a child. Maybe it was the way it was filmed a bit distant like idk
This movie took my breath away. Somewhere those feelings are within each of us be it across the world or continents we relate to this. I felt so light just watching it and my day is beautiful.
Dang, SS, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts. Really happy our story made you feel that way. Wishing you all the best 🙂
Incredibly done. Well written, impeccably acted and produced... the whole nine. The music was perfect, not too overwhelming, fitting perfectly. Like a fine wine, it fits, compliments the scene, instead of trampling over it. "Anne" has a bit of.. Jane Fonda in her voice, her cadence. What a very cool chemistry these two have, right? The way these they mesh is so believable, even if seemingly rare. And yes, I know people may say this a bit too often, but I truly see this guy going places. We'll see him around another camera or two....
Shoowee, thanks, Krystal. I really appreciate you taking the time to share those thoughts. They sure made a body feel good to read 'em haha and glad you enjoyed the movie.
It's an incredibly heartwarming film with outstanding performances! We are humans, irrespective of age, gender, or nationality; at the end of the day, we all need human connection, and it was beautiful to see in the film how that longing drives them to connect with each other. I loved the natural flow of conversations and laughs. It really left me wanting to see more of the characters, how their friendship develops, and how organically the layers of the story unravel. I loved it. Thank you :)
Hey @ashhilthakar980, thanks very much for watching and taking the time to write. And yup, that's really where the idea for the movie came from, a love for people and the kindness they can show for one another despite all their differences and challenges that appear to be keeping them apart
This story caught my undivided attention today. It made me cry, then it made me smile, then it made me inspired, lots of emotions. But then it ended.....and I wanted and needed more of the story. Beautifully written, an engaging story for sure. Watching from Canada.
thank you for taking the time to write such a nice message, @lizharley5723. It’s an awesome thing that people who’ve never met can connect to a story in the same way. Reassures one’s faith in the future and in the human ability to come together to uplift one another and work towards good together.
thanks, Anjetka. I liked that bit, too haha. One of my favorite shots of the whole movie was the push in on the rose in the window sill early on the movie with the white curtain behind it

This is such a touching short film. She's beautiful when she smiles with that warm smile and his eyes . . . dio mio! I'm an old singer and still singing well. Keep up the creativity, but what was the book about?
Thanks for the kind words, Richard. Glad you enjoyed the film. The book is just meant to connect the two of them; however, I'm intending on going more into that in the feature script. I'm also meaning to change up the book to be something more significant to the two of them. In the short, it was just a screenwriting book, but in the feature I'm thinking I'd like it to be The Alchemist, which is about following one's dreams and following your destiny.
Wonderful and engaging short film. I fell in love with the characters who were beautifully acted - very genuine. I would love to see more of the story unfold in future shorts perhaps?
Hey there, thanks for watching. The hope is to continue developing the characters into a full length feature script, which I'm currently working on. Stay tuned for the future and fingers crossed we get some luck and can make it once I'm done writing 🤞
thanks very much for taking the time to watch and write, mindfuldistractions. just read this excerpt somewhere a few days ago about how the most important thing in our lives are the relationships we form with others. that’s what matters most while we’re living and when we look back on our own life. seems pretty accurate to me as I think on it
17:07 ‘Same as most things I guess… It just sort of happened’ - reminds me of the famous John Lennon quotation ‘Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans’…
I always liked that line too haha. It’s kind of a weird process hearing things you’ve written said on screen-it feels almost like they take on a life of their own, like they’re not not even quite your words anymore, as if you’ve surrendered ownership of them when they’re released out into the world.
thank you, Michelle. I very much appreciate the kind words and you’re taking the time to watch our movie. I let Kris know you enjoyed her performance as well 😁
Very enjoyable. The actors had real personality and a connection as the flow of the scenes moved along. Seemed very real to life. I think there's some real talent here! Yes, obviously I enjoyed the interaction of the two actors. Too bad this is just a beginning. I look forward to more, if possible. This really had some charm! + Durasaxon + ✝️
Very cool ! much talent and creativity shown in this film; from sound track to story line.. and yes, We are All Actors. -- each playing many parts and have our entrances and exits..,
Thanks @acer4237, working on it. Submitted first draft of the feature to the Academy Nicholl Fellowship this year. Still got work to do but really believe in the story, so hopefully we can get a little Good Will Hunting type action sometime in the future. Whatever the odds, a man can dream haha
Haha thank you, Bob. I'm working on it. If I keep up the work and can get struck by a little bit of lucky lightning, we just might be able to make it into a full movie. We shall see haha. Stay tuned :)
Thanks, Foster Lee, it's my pleasure. It really makes me happy to share something I've worked on like this so that other people can interact with it and feel some connection to it--and hopefully be affected in a positive way
Dudny want it to end. Well played well written a great job. Just goes to show how with just a little effirt you can connect with people you would normally ignore and discount . . If only more people would behave like this their workd woukd become richer for it.

Thank you, @sonant888. Love to hear that haha

Hi Minnie, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to write. Really happy you enjoyed it.
I really appreciate the fact that you take the time to write back to so many of us. Thank you for appreciating your audience
“I never met a soul that could make my humble talents connect with the world.”
Oof!
~sigh ~
The point is, she taught me that it’s never too late.
If you want to share…
Really trying to find my place in life now that I’m older. This resonated with me
thanks for watching, Laura, and glad the movie meant something to you. Change in life is definitely tough and so is getting older, which is something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. So, I hear you. I always try to remind myself that all of it is just another diverse part of the adventure of life to appreciate and enjoy for the time we get to be here. Wishing you all the best.
i never found my place really, or at least, i did once, and lost it…there re plenty of us out here, laura 🩵🩵🩵💗💗💗🩵🩵🩵

I learned something new. What a white rose symbolizes. Watching you sniff the rose, I could almost smell it myself. Beautiful, calming, amusing. This is the movie to watch on a cool rainy evening.
Thanks, Tony. Much appreciate you stopping in to have a watch.
Special movie that utilizes the wisdome and grace of an older woman very well. I appreciate the uniqueness.

When i learned that he lost his mother, and after the scene indicating she lost her son, the jabbing at the end of the kitchen scene made me cry.
thanks for writing @icedzinnia.
Thank you for such a wonderful movie!
thanks, @Gus-x3z. Really glad you enjoyed it. We had a lot of fun making it together.
Unbelievable story. These two actors are great. Thank you...💕
thank you and thank you for watching, Andrea 🙂
This is a short film that is really well made. It's rare to find a work of this caliber in the short film genre, and it's a testament to the filmmaker's talent and vision. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a thought-provoking, emotionally resonant cinematic experience
Thanks, Josh 😁
More, More, More!!! Brilliantly done.👌👌👏👏❤❤
Thanks, Jo. Looking forward to making more in the time to come 🙂
There are shorts and there are shorts, this is above most, if not the best I have seen in a very long time. The acting, the script, the lot. Love it, saved.
much obliged @timothygreening875. Appreciate you taking the time to write and glad you enjoyed our little short
@@jakeebright1041 true.
The first film of yours that I've seen, but will watch more, for sure. Excellent
Thanks, Raja. Really appreciate you taking the time to check it out.
This was very excellently made. Really tugged at my heart. It wouldn't have taken much for them not reach out or open up but because they did they both of them benefited a friendship that without them fully knowing they both really needed. Brilliantly executed. Well done, Jake.
Thank you, Chanté 🙂 Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and share such kind thoughts. Glad we tugged at the old heart strings a bit haha
Great story/film

I was absolutely invested in this short from the get go. Well done, so nice to see an intergenerational friendship.

Can see big things in the future for this guy. Writing, directing, acting, is there anything he CANT do???
Haha thanks, Henry. You the man 🙌
Waiting for part two!
Thanks for giving it a watch, Dan ✌

Beautiful story.
Thank, you, Tamara 🙂
That's it! Jane Fonda style it is!
I love this movie! My bf was 30 years older than me, makes me miss her so much…she had Ann’s enthusiasm ❤
that’s awesome, @lasallemj. Cool thing when people connect regardless of age. Thanks for watching 🙏
Reassures one’s faith in the future and in the human ability to come together to uplift one another and work towards good together.
... I loved close up at the white rose in a small vase passing to each other and the sentence " a new beginning" fits perfectly.
thanks, Anjetka. I liked that bit, too haha. One of my favorite shots of the whole movie was the push in on the rose in the window sill early on the movie with the white curtain behind it
Jake you are very talented!!

@@jakeebright1041 thanks for responding and good luck!
Wonderful and engaging short film. I fell in love with the characters who were beautifully acted - very genuine. I would love to see more of the story unfold in future shorts perhaps?

I always liked that line too haha. It’s kind of a weird process hearing things you’ve written said on screen-it feels almost like they take on a life of their own, like they’re not not even quite your words anymore, as if you’ve surrendered ownership of them when they’re released out into the world.

Mr. Ebright, your film is à propos for showcasing a friendship between two people who are four or more decades apart in age!
