I've tried many ways to make this and yours works best. I cut back on the salt a bit and used Chinese chili/garlic sauce instead of the hot sauce because it was what I had. I had to cook it 22 minutes + 3 rather than 15 because of other chicken parts. But it was every bit as crunchy as fried. Thank you!
@@TheAirFryerGeek so the key is rubbing cooking oil on. Never tried... I heard spraying works to but this is way better. I had 2 disasters and quit. You gave me hope again. Thanks

Me and my wife stop eating fried food but swear to god we really miss it so I got her a air fryer she want fried chicken so UA-cam and found your recipe and I only got 4 words for you and dat’s happy wife happy life thank you
I’ve tried other air fried chicken recipes using bread crumbs, corn meal, etc… This is the ticket! I altered the seasoning a bit (I used Old Bay, Chile powder, garlic, and onion powder) and didn’t use as much salt, but the self rising flour, egg wash, flour, and oil sequence gave me a nice crispy coating that didn’t crumble and fall off while I was eating. The Frank’s hot sauce in the egg wash was a nice touch also. Thanks for posting this.
I tried your recipe exactly as you stated. I did back off the salt due to high blood pressure. When the chicken was done it still had flour on it. I tried wiping the flour off but the crust was coming off. I felt the chicken tasted ok but I was not blown away by the taste. I don't know what I did wrong but I won't try this particular recipe again. I'll keep watching chicken videos until I find one I feel brave enough to try.
Just found you on UA-cam and you did a great job, THANK YOU Also very well done on listing the ingredients and steps in your notes. Wish all the other recipe posters would do as well as you.
I'm not one to make a recipe that has more than 2 steps but I made this and it was sooooo worth it and so unbelievably good! I have the same air fryer as in this video (Cosori 5.8qt) and put 7 legs in which made for a tight fit. You're right about using fewer because when I flipped them over I lost some of the breading. Would it be ok to use an olive oil sprayer instead of brushing? Thank you for sharing this and showing all the steps with the commentary, it really helped!
I just got a new air fryier and cooked spicy chicken in it but I used butter and hot sauce marinade over night.. and a flour herb spice mix and 25min at 180c but I used thighs on the bone and drum sticks and omg it was yummo.
I love my air fryer and even have one in my van. I have a keto hack recipe with minimal ingredients that's good enough for me. I buy a bag of cheap drumsticks with skin from Walmart. I wing cut the meat on each side of the bone and generously season it with Badia Garlic Pepper and Badia Smoked Paprika and then coat it with Ground Flaxseed.
Not clear on cooking time first time he put in for 15 min at 380•f then he turned over with the tongs then he set aside so when you flip the legs do you put them back I the fryer to cook some more ? and if so same temp ? and for how long?
Alright guys This man describing how to make crunchy chicken is turning me on ...my goodness gracious ❤️❤️ thank you for the visual and fantasy Iv apparently just experienced...not a joke
I was taken to your video this morning as I have been thinking of getting an air fryer for 2. You give good cooking instructions and your (Italian?) accent gives extra umph to it. Happy cooking! 🙏
Hmmm.. think I'll give this a go next time I try making fried chicken. I did notice that you didn't use the "wet hand, dry hand" method when coating the chicken. Also you didn't indicate for how long you cooked the chicken after you flipped it over.
Good video thank you. I thought these fryers were cheaper than a coventional oven? Two cooks of the legs, as not enough room for enough for a family. Plus 15 minutes heating up time. That's before you start cooking any accompaniments. I guess you keep them all hot in the oven while your waiting on the second cook. Alternatively you could do it all in the oven. I guess I was looking too much at the electricity issue.
Jim Scott, 🤣😂 you made some good points! I think that one has to really think b4 buying an Air fryer, as the fryer capacity matters! We have a deep fryer but I cannot stand the smell of the sizzling oil, so for some things, our Air fryer is indispensable.
I have an idea. For those who need the ingredients written down: Every time you hear an ingredient, pause the video, write it down, and continue doing this until you have written all of them down! 😁
Just click "Show More" below the video and the recipes AND directions are already there. You can even print them if you copy & paste into a text document like Word or something.
You are heating the inside of the air fryer, the grate, and jump start the cooking to avoid sogginess. You can run a test between starting cold va preheating and will see a difference. I will probably make a video about it! 😜
It's better if you put the chicken and the seasoning in a zip lock bag and then seal it and shake it up really well that allows the chicken to get more evenly seasoned as easier and faster hey you don't have to dirty up with bowl do it
There is nothing southern about this guy, but it does look good. Would have been nice to see you bite into one and show the look of finished meat and show what brand of fryer your using, other than that looks good
There is a lot of southern in me…southern Italian! 😂 you can see in my channel my favorite Air Fryers here for example: ua-cam.com/video/Q-UCX7J1QOM/v-deo.html
yes Paul youre right he didnt show the cookness inside the chicken which is important and 15 mins is too short of time to fully have fried chicken done right
Was curious about differences between what I’ve done and your way. I’ve seen corn starch used in many air fryer chicken recipes. So I’ve coated chicken with some vinegar/lemon juice and add your spices here. Then coat with corn starch followed by extra virgin olive spying bottle (obviously not air can as damage your air fryer) to spray the chicken on all sides. The whole thing with everything else with your egg and flour just seems to add a lot of prep complexity and cleanup.
This looks interesting but I couldn’t be bothered trying the recipe because I haven’t a clue about the measurements! Cups, spoons and pounds don’t make any sense to me. I’ve loads of different size cups and spoons 🤷🏼♂️
If you want fried chicken then put it in a deep fryer. There is no equal. Yes air fryers are good for using less oil but you will never get the equal of deep fried crispy chicken without using a deep fryer. Weather permitting we use the deep fryer outside on the patio but during the winter we do use the air fryer and wait for the spring to get cooking back outside. The number of times we use the deep fryer will not hurt our health or yours.
Yes but not everyone wants to use Oil for deep frying. I would never use it. Also why should a Chicken Leg be crispy? You probably mean the skin....and despite many people wanting to fry me possible for it...I don't eat the chicken skin...so no crispiness required at all...
John Davidson, sorry but I disagree with you on your assertion of...'deep frying won't affect your health'! If one eats deep fried food regularly, it will definitely affect the arteries, heart & cardiovascular system! No thanks.
Doesn't brushing the floured chicken with oil work counter to why you are using an air fryer in the first place? I suspect the amount of oil you slathered on the floured chicken surface is probably pretty close to the amount of oil actual frying would have imparted. You had a spray there. Why not give the chicken a light spray to help them crisp up? Just saying.
You need to use some oil when you air fry to attain a good coating on the chicken and to cook evenly. It’s a whole lot healthier though than deep frying.

It's called seasoning not salt that's why you don't get the same flavor!!

The vinegar in the hot sauce converts the milk. All you need is vinegar ( or lemon juice) to turn milk into buttermilk

I would just spray , not use a brush to coat with oil.
