    Spartacus is proving his quality as a rider right this moment in E3 Harelbeke, coming back in the front group after a mech failure that left him at the back of the race. He's huge!

    I get you want to stay on his good side and get interviews the rest of the year, but there are more than a few rumors about Fabs using motors in his bike (including the time he rode Tom off his wheel). It seems like something that needs to at least be discussed in this debate.

      +Matthew Martin if he had only won races that year, I might also be suspicious. However, he's won pretty consistently at the biggest races throughout his career. Those two monuments in 2010 aren't anomalies. Dan

      +Matthew Martin Fabian Doesn't even trust electronic groupsets and uses a single layer of bar tape for Paris Roubaix. I highly doubt he would trust a motor, and a hard man like him wouldn't stoop that low. He's a multiple world time trial champion, I would give him some benefit of the doubt and assume he didn't use a motor.

    • @Juan0003

      @itarry4 8 років тому +1

      yhep, have to agree with that. Tom out shines him in the classics but Fab is definitely the stronger rider over all. His TT ability puts him head and shoulders above in general terms as he can ride away from a peloton like only maybe Wiggins and Martin can match, Tom definitely can't. However Tom seems to be able to lay it all down in one long day better than anyone else and his bike handling over odd terrain is better

    I'm a big Spartacus fan, and I didn't need Dan to convince me. But when I think of Cancellara and Boonen, beyond their rivalry in the spring classics, I think of the great respect they have for each other. That respect was visible when, a couple of years ago, right after the announcement of Boonen's wife miscarriage, Spartacus showed his support at the beginning of a race (was it Strade Bianche?). A touching moment.

    Both Boonen and Cancellara have been great riders for the ages. Both have seven monument wins. Cancellara was also perhaps the greatest time trialist of all time with two Olympic gold medals which also helped him win many yellow jerseys. Boonen was the superior printer which helped him win more races overall. Along with Contador they are clearly the greatest riders of their generation and we should enjoy that we were able to delight in their achievements!

    can it be a tie? theyre both phenomenal with slightly different specificity in the way they ride. in an outright sprint in their prime boonen wins, in a tt fabian wins, in an endurance based effort they come out equal and when it comes to getting over the mountains they both ride together and suffer through it.

    Cancellara walked on to the road in E3 2016, put his hand up casually and stopped a tinkoff car and all other support cars behind it as well as blocking some riders,
    just to get to his spare bike.
    Not considering he chased the leading group back after his mechanical cost him 2 minutes.
    That's boss.

  • @fatjohn1408
    @fatjohn1408 4 роки тому

    Thing is Fabian had a gradual career but Boonen 2004, 2005 and 2006 was simply mental. Probably the most dominant riding we've seen since Merckx and haven't seen since. In 2007 and 2008 he was still good but because he was a little bit less and everyone rode his wheel that gave his teammate Devolder 2 wins in Flanders even though Boonen was probably the best rider in those races. After that he was good but not great with the exception of 2012.
    Boonen was the best classics rider, overall I place them on equal footing.

    We're just lucky to have witnessed these two gods at their prime... who's next Sagan/Kwiatkowski?

      +J Puppykik Looking forward to see Tiesj Benoot in the future. Came in 5th place in last years Tour des Flandres at the age of 21; and he's been consistent in all of his cobbled classics since. Interesting rider :)

      +Whalturk Sagan will beat both of them 7 out of 10 times, Sagan is soo good , if he races anywhere except for the huge mountains he will most likely always end up at the best 5 , wether its a classic or a tour sprint

      mariobahama Yeah definitely. Sagan is my favourite rider, so I hope he does. I was just pointing out, that Tiesj Benoot is an interesting rider, that I look forward to watch in the future.

      +Whalturk i agree the more great riders there are the more exciting the race , and the bigger the victory for the winner

      mariobahama Exactly. And with riders like Sagan, Vanmarcke, Kristoff, Stybar, Terpstra, Kwiatkowski, Van Avermaet, Benoot ect. ect. we are bound to see glorious victories in the years to come.
      Seriously, is there any sport as beautiful as cycling? I find it hard to believe :)

    No one's ever stood on a finishing straight in Belgium...or Switzerland for that matter...holding a sign advertising "Spartacus Frites."

    Considering my name I should support Tom...But I am supporting Fabian here..I could say it is because of Dan convincing me, but sorry mate it's just personal preference.

    Definitely Dan Lloyd won this match-up. Mostly by ignoring Matt's claims.
