Considering he was 90 kilos (or close to it) it's astounding how much power he could still put out and climb as well as he did. Phil: Cookie Monster Fabian: Monster
Chapeau! Great stuff. You rose to the challenge, tried to hype it with the twitter...but Fabian was having nothing of it...and in the end you owned that climb. Kind of takes that "clean liv'n" to a new level. Renews my faith in the true passion for riding a bike and being Pro.
It's been mentioned, but I had as much fun watching you drop the other challengers as I did Fabian. Great fun to watch, great camera work by Nathan, and hats off to Fabian, a great sportsman.
It was so nice that you have come to that event. To be apart of this is just awesome. I would have loved to see you live during the race. Unfortunately I was in the frontgroup tho race for the overall. Thanks to come to Switzerland.
Very happy he played along. Seeing how well you trained I honestly thought he was not gonna try at all. Having said that I'm pretty sure you're far from your 100% here if you were 2 mins away from the KOM ;) It seemed like you were waiting for him at parts to make it more interesting.
Great job to the both of you, you both acted like professionals, because you are professionals and sportsman alike! I know you said you joke around and do not take things seriously, but today you show us that you've mature and are a class act Phil, again great job!
I like the way you approached this. Very nice! Nice advertising for your sponsors. Great exposure for your sponsers and nice of Fabian to participate. Just obe question Phil Gaimon, is FC a nice guy???
I was on Ian Stannard's wheel during a ride along event and it's a funny thing what goes through your head as a fan. Just like you said you're thinking this is the view you would have in whichever race you want to think of. So much fun but non fans would think you're nuts! Congrats on the win and class act all around.👏👏👏
Phil, you are in such great shape! You are a MONSTER when you ride ride out of the saddle! Was it nerve wrecking to be racing while cars fly by you in the other lane?
Man I normally save all of Phil's videos for a Zwift sess but I watched this one from my couch. So good...haha. For future viewers, you have to rewatch Phil's videos when you're not in the pain cave, he's actually got jokes!
Some commenters didn't understand that there were a few flat bits, and as I understand this was a 5 degree climb which makes it really not super steep so it favored both riders at different potions. Great work and commentary Phil! To bad about the rear cam being off.
I also forgot to restart my powermeter. It turns into sleep mode if you stop for 5 minutes, so it shut off when we waited for Fabian. I was nervous to get the race started...
Fabian is despite his obvious weight gain, still A MONSTER! Watching his (controlled-steady in-the saddle) pace is pure pleasure. When the road flattens somewhere in the middle of a climb, he switches up the gear into the flat TT pace where nobody can keep up easily...
Super cool - I rode the climb just a couple of weeks ago right after the Tour du Suisse went up it. It is quite beautiful. Had lunch in the restaurant with the Swiss flag just at the top several days in a row on different rides...
I think both riders know at this point, this only helps each other in their elective "retirement". And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...
How do you get the info in the bottom right corner? Is that a certain software or through strava? Awesome race btw, its really cool to see how you guys are serious, but in the end its all still fun for you.
Phil i see you climbing most out of the saddle. As i noticed myselfe i am able to push 25 - 30 watts more in this position, too. So i train over wintertime to ride in sweetspot 1 - 1,5 hours in that position. How do you alternate standing and sitting position? Thx MAP
I kept wondering why Fabian's legs looked strange. Who wears ankle socks on the bike?!? C'mon Fabian! I learned everything about style from you. Now this?! lol For real, though, good job to both Phil and Fabian! Way to be adults and settle arguments like good humans.
First of all, Congrats! Have a question about a previous video. You mentioned that you had a bikefit done. What were the results? How close was it to your current position? Do u think it will help you?
Fabian was gracious to honor the race and put in a real effort even if he knew he wouldn't win. Class! Congrats on the win, Phil!
You should race Simon Richardson from GCN some time. He's also clearly, had big problems "retiring".
Si's no match
Si is easily 1 W/kg below Phil.
Considering he was 90 kilos (or close to it) it's astounding how much power he could still put out and climb as well as he did.
Phil: Cookie Monster
Fabian: Monster
A flat road with Spartacus laid down on his bars cranking out the watts.... Every climbers worst nightmare.
The size difference is pretty astonishing. It’s like comparing a marathon runner and a sprinter.
And they say black is slimming...
Interestingly enough, they are the same height, 1.85m, but Cancellara weighs 20kg more!
Orbifold
I think they both have similar FTPs.
Fabian can climb well for a big guy. But he's not in racing shape. Phil's been on his Strava kick and isn't really that far off his racing shape
@@veganpotterthevegan Cancellara is not a climber. He can drop Gaimon on the flats and beat him in TT.
16:07 omfg the take and toss xD
Shout out to Cancellara for being a good sport, what a champ
Why did he throw that?
Coz it didn't stand Luigi on it
@John Porno they could also be weed cookies
Chapeau! Great stuff. You rose to the challenge, tried to hype it with the twitter...but Fabian was having nothing of it...and in the end you owned that climb. Kind of takes that "clean liv'n" to a new level. Renews my faith in the true passion for riding a bike and being Pro.
Awesome! And kudos to Nathan Haas...I was trying to figure out who could possible stay with you guys on the Follow-Cam!
It's been mentioned, but I had as much fun watching you drop the other challengers as I did Fabian. Great fun to watch, great camera work by Nathan, and hats off to Fabian, a great sportsman.
Fun video. Way to be gracious and a good winner
It was so nice that you have come to that event. To be apart of this is just awesome. I would have loved to see you live during the race. Unfortunately I was in the frontgroup tho race for the overall. Thanks to come to Switzerland.

I knew I couldn't sleep for a reason.
Great job to the both of you, you both acted like professionals, because you are professionals and sportsman alike! I know you said you joke around and do not take things seriously, but today you show us that you've mature and are a class act Phil, again great job!

Fantastic vid! Loved the commentary throughout. Congrats Phil!
Been looking forward to this race more than that one starting in France today! It didn't disappoint!
i LOVE the sportsmanship from both of you. faith in cycling restored
That was fantastic! Thank you for playing the way we all wish we could. Lots of w's there
I was on Ian Stannard's wheel during a ride along event and it's a funny thing what goes through your head as a fan. Just like you said you're thinking this is the view you would have in whichever race you want to think of. So much fun but non fans would think you're nuts!
Congrats on the win and class act all around.👏👏👏
You are NUTS! That's what makes it so fun....
This was a beautifully pure and clean race. I teared up. Phil and Fabian, you guys are classy pros.
"Sit back and savor his butt" :D! golden
Not as great as the swiss army knife leatherman joke last time. Had me rolling on the floor
So freaking proud of you dude! All class!!
Absolutely love your sense of humor Phil, keep the awesome vids coming!
Good job and thanks for the video. Really enjoy the series.
Chapeau to both of you!
Phil, you are in such great shape! You are a MONSTER when you ride ride out of the saddle! Was it nerve wrecking to be racing while cars fly by you in the other lane?
Awesome man, I love this format..wish there was a team pursuit version
Hats off to Fabian, and you Phil!
As a fanboy myself, what an incredible experience!
Man I normally save all of Phil's videos for a Zwift sess but I watched this one from my couch. So good...haha.
For future viewers, you have to rewatch Phil's videos when you're not in the pain cave, he's actually got jokes!
haha thank you
excellent, well done. really enjoyed it
Some commenters didn't understand that there were a few flat bits, and as I understand this was a 5 degree climb which makes it really not super steep so it favored both riders at different potions. Great work and commentary Phil! To bad about the rear cam being off.
Great fun to watch. Thanks also for your insights and thoughts on cycling.
Great vid! Love your story telling. Keep it up.
an excellent win ,,,couldn't be more pleased for you Phil !
Phil, this is really great stuff. It was super awesome to see this go from talk to actually happening. Thanks! 🚲🍪🤘🇺🇸
That's awesome Phil! Sure it's much easier to watch than to do. :-) Thanks!
EPIC!
Great story and a memory for the worst retirement ever.
Excellent video! Nailed it!
Two of my favorite riders going at it man on man......so awesome!!!!
Fabian a beast in retirement and a class act all day and every day. I miss watching him race!
So good! Congrats on the W.
Nicely done sir:)
Good one guys. Donated.
Great stuff bro. Forgot to turn your rear GoPro on?
I also forgot to restart my powermeter. It turns into sleep mode if you stop for 5 minutes, so it shut off when we waited for Fabian. I was nervous to get the race started...
Learn to cook
congratulations man!
wow!
Congrats on winning a classy duel with Fabian, Phil. And I bought a box of Clif Bars last week with their sponsorship of you in mind. Does that count?
That was cool and fun. Thanks Phil.
Fabian is despite his obvious weight gain, still A MONSTER!
Watching his (controlled-steady in-the saddle) pace is pure pleasure. When the road flattens somewhere in the middle of a climb, he switches up the gear into the flat TT pace where nobody can keep up easily...
Horrible sock game should be an immediate DQ for Fabian. 🤣
I'm astonished how fast you rode that climb, I died a death on the final push and my speed was less in kph that your mph :)
Great Video
Well done Phil! Love how you smoked all those dudes that tried to attack you! Little do they know they're messing with THE Phil Gaimon!
Any chance we'll see you race a retired climber? Contador maybe? :)
Would love to see that for sure!!
Super cool - I rode the climb just a couple of weeks ago right after the Tour du Suisse went up it. It is quite beautiful. Had lunch in the restaurant with the Swiss flag just at the top several days in a row on different rides...
Beautiful, steady climb. Good race.
Love it dro
Fabian was motoring pretty well
Nice work Phil, I hope to see you on Lookout Mountain one day,
I think both riders know at this point, this only helps each other in their elective "retirement". And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming...
Did you check his bike for a motor before the event ;) Good stuff. No desire to guide (and id be a terrible one) but I'm making a donation!
Great riding Phil !
Fabian's cadence uphill was amazing
Would have been nice to see your watts on the climb too with the gradient and speed
the guy on the follow cam must have been pretty good too
Fabs tossing the cookie was ace.
Lovely stuff
He looks every bit of 90kg. Wonder what Fabian's watt/kilo was.
Fabian watts were around 440 watt. Maybe more. Depends on the wind.
Way to bring the W to the US!
Yo Phil you should record some audio books and put them on youtube. I'd love to listen to some of your writings.
Hell ya Phil! Great work 👍🏽👍🏽
How do you get the info in the bottom right corner? Is that a certain software or through strava? Awesome race btw, its really cool to see how you guys are serious, but in the end its all still fun for you.
So I guess Fabian did some secret training beyond his 1 or 2 strava uploads.
Phil i see you climbing most out of the saddle. As i noticed myselfe i am able to push 25 - 30 watts more in this position, too. So i train over wintertime to ride in sweetspot 1 - 1,5 hours in that position. How do you alternate standing and sitting position? Thx MAP
That Trek bike
Chapeau all, Peace3ed and Cookies
Well done, Phil!
Who was the poor soul that had to chase you both up the climb with a GoPro?
I never thought I’d say this but I miss hearing your heavy breathing. Seriously, it adds something to the footage.
I'll call you late at night some time
Do you charge by the minute or by the mile, Phil Gaimon ? ;)
hahaha
I kept wondering why Fabian's legs looked strange. Who wears ankle socks on the bike?!? C'mon Fabian! I learned everything about style from you. Now this?! lol For real, though, good job to both Phil and Fabian! Way to be adults and settle arguments like good humans.
Old school.
SC Tube gets old school and a real bro. Unlike conformists assholes.
SC Tube I think at this point he can wear whatever he wants! I’ve never quite understood the sock elitists. 🤣
He was mocking Phil with the socks.
man I love the humor :)
First of all, Congrats! Have a question about a previous video. You mentioned that you had a bikefit done. What were the results? How close was it to your current position? Do u think it will help you?
You and Fabian are lucky you did not meet me on this climb. 5.10 57 kg would have loved to test my power with you guys on my wheel.
Where is the power data
Get em sage
Maybe he stopped to sign autographs with the guys handing out cookues. 🤔
Power data would be nice. Guess: on the tops 16mph 6% @420w approx. On the hoods 25mph 0% @320w rider 70kg
Geez, who was the follow can? They didn't miss a beat!!!
Nice race, well done Phil.Oh, by the way, what motor did you use?
c'mon man - one of durians fan boys?
Did you have a tri/tt saddle on there?
what bike is cancellara riding ? is it a madone?
what tires do you use?
One of the first couple!
Phil, you are a funny funny man, keep the dream alive, great stuf.
Where are the watts on screen?!
Mountain stage, next 40k TT!
Have literally no idea which rider is which or who I am watching
hexonatapeloop haha watch any of that other videos for context here
Great work Phil but unfortunately an asterisks will have to be added: *victory aided by external cookie doping ;-)
good stuff Phil, I think you've got a real chance at becoming the wrpoat!
who's next? see if you can get wiggins riled or something XD
Did you check his bike for a motor prior to the start?
Who, um, coached Cancellara on the sock choice?
