That is a really nice interview. Fabian is really grounded; must be great to ride for/with him. Well done, Cam! Looking forward to more of this. Cheers, Chrissi 😃
Oh Cam this was one of your best videos ever its honest factual and its warm not just numbers but people loved the video Man and increased my respect for you and RCA your a breath of fresh air in the world of cycling Thank you.
Same here, C-rider on zwift, 470ish watts as 1 min best, and weighing more also at 86 kilo. 5min power at 342watts. I ride as good as every day, and about 15.000km a year. Obviously I'm older than Fabian, but yeah his and the pros numbers are really impressive.
Legends don't use motors on road bikes and swap their bikes at key points with a mechanic already waiting there without the team car as was seen on a many occasions. This liar was using motors for years even on the Time Trials. After UCI starting doing full scans of the bikes him and a few other liars and cheaters suddenly lost all their power lol
hats off to Cam for doing this interview, impressive numbers but even more impressive athlete, Fabian was and still is a exceptional individual, love what he does for sport today
Fantastic interview Cam, it was great to hear Fabian talk about the human side of nurturing & protecting his young rides in a sport that is unfortunately full of elitism 👍
The more time you spend in the tt position, the closer the numbers get to your road bike position - safe to say his numbers are probably very similar in both positions.
Always been an idol of mine and this just cements that, what a bloke. Anyone coming through the Tudor system has an advantage with a guy like him at the helm.
I met this guy at a race he held. I was totally starstruck when he came up to me and gave me an advice I will always remember: "You need to wash your bike" 🙂
Thanks for the video. Fabian was my motivational figure when I started triathlon racing when I hit 50. I think about him from time to time and decided to do a search for him. This video was very satisfying and learned more about the man, not just the cyclist.
Great that you put the headline moment at the start, rather than making us watch waiting to hear the bit we clicked for. Still watched the rest of the video, just enjoying rather than waiting
Cam, you really seem to have a knack for finding "good bloke"s to interview and really drawing out their goodness on camera in your interviews. I absolutely love it.
Cancellara will be remembered for the most iconic attacks in the history of pro cycling. He could use the motor controversy to his advantage. It's a compliment, really. I'd love to hear him give a commentary about dropping Boonen on the Muur at the 2010 Tour of Flanders. It's the best attack ever, I mean absolutely legendary. To not speak about it is a huge wasted opportunity. That is what true cycling fans devoted to this beautiful sport want to know.
Great content. ❤ I’ve always has been a huge fan of Cancellara and what he is actually doing with the team is great. You can’t love this guy. Spartacus4ever❤
Good Lord his numbers are absolutely 🤯🤯 especially put in perspective! Great interview altogether! AND still so strong!Delighted his still involved in cycling!!
As a rec rider with an FTP around 230W, his numbers are beyond my capacity to comprehend. I had a ride recently with another guy whose FTP was 350-360, and whenever we hit a short punchy climb, he would leave me in the dust (even with me standing on my pedals and him remaining seated). Just really really impressive.
230w is very very low ftp unless you are 16 yo girl. do proper training and your gonna be better. Or just disconnect powermeter and ride for fun like 95% of cyclist do
Watts depend on the bike he uses, lol. Holds the record for bike swaps in a single race (E3 Harelbeke, 5 times, flat race btw) without having a flat or mechanic issues. Intensive scanning for motors started after his era.
Fabulous Fabian. For number considerations, look at the difference b/w Cam’s upper body vs Fabian’s pics at his peak. Similar overall weight but Fabian (and most Pro’s) are wafer thin up top (whereas Cam has more musculature). The Pro’s power is in their core and legs and that weight discrepancy up top makes a huge difference on output (because their weight is in the musculature of the legs, not on the rest of the ‘vehicle’ they are moving).
Seems like a nice guy. Questions from subscribers would have also been great. E.g. "Tom B. from Belgium wants to know how you prepared for the Classics season in 2010?" 🤔
I can't do 450 watts for TWO minutes! Affordable power meters weren't available in my 20's and 30's. I don't think I could've did over 400 watts very long back then either.
of course i always knew that professional riders were way stronger than me, but getting my first powermeter last christmas really gave me a reality check on how absolutely insane their numbers are. For friends who have no reference i always compare to a sled-push and tell them to double their weight, double their speed and do it for 60min non-stop
I love Fabians vision for the Tudor team, it really seems spot on. Thanks to his great experience and humbleness. 450 for an hour and seven minuets though! Ouch!
Bonkers! -- Fabian is a beast and one of the most stand-up guys ever in the pro peleton. 88 wins in ITT and Classics?...bwoooohaaaaaa!..that´s an amazing lifetime achievement. Those kids are lucky to have such a great mentor and "life coach".
Gr8 Rider Fabain . 450 watts for 72 minutes. Wow. What a nice fella he is . I am 65 yrs old & dont ride 2 much due 2 Concussion Headaches & Migraines 24/7. 180 watts for 1 hr & 191 watts for 15 minutes. Only on the bike for 2/3 times a week.
What an incredible athlete and an incredible person. I'll never forget watching him suffer up the Rock Store climb up on Mullholland during TOC many years ago.
Great interview👍 What a nice bloke, and as for those numbers - WTAF! For a laugh we should have changed his nickname from 'Spartacus' to 'The Motor'. Also, let's get him out of retirement for a spring classic or two - 1300W sprint after 7yrs retired 😮
I second this. Not very often you hear team owners and people in similar positions speak the way he does. It’s refreshing to hear & see that he puts the riders first as before athletes they are normal people like you & I.
Talking about how the last are role models because they have stories is my favourite perspective in ultra distance sports. You never remember races that went well, but always the ones you suffered or helped others. Now I might have to head over to Switzerland for a race
I was really pleased when he finished on a high at the Olympics....just as he's saying that in this video you see Tom Dumoulin who sadly wasn't able to retire in the best of circumstances, but he will always be a hero to me.
I think he is being modest. There is a quote attributed to Geraint Thomas where he was sprinting out of the saddle in Flanders following Cancellara's wheel at 800W+ and Cance was still riding away from them all. When he says 600W average on a climb he doesn't mean in the zone it probably starts with a seated effort of 1000-1200W. Here is a once in a generation type of rider. You have to had seen a race in it's entirety to see what a huge Cancellara shaped hole the peloton has today. I miss him :)
Can't help but feel happy for someone achieving what he has. The 1 hour record in a velodrome is also at just over 400W. I often think about this when I manage to hold it for a few minutes :). And what a great attitude he has towards promoting cycling, and a positive cycling mentality.
hes still my favorite classics guys... he was such a beast. the way he would ride people off his wheel at places like Paris Roubaix was mind-blowing. watching 10 guys thinking they would tag along when he attacked and then watch them flail in the air and drop back on e by one. lol!
Great interview. What a great individual Cancellara is, very humble and really respectful and appreciative of ordinary Z2 riders the elite sport is built upon. Thumbs up to old mate also. 🤪👍
Cool guy, for sure. Wow, to have those numbers, jeeze!! My 1sec max at 59 years old 1,333w and 1009w for 16 seconds. 335w for 20 min. Weight is 80 kilos.
His 72 minutes was much more impressive than his 3 minute and 11 minute power, which are already impressive! 450 watts for 72 minutes doesn’t seem human
I'm really impressed by his attitude. He cares about other people and the spirit of cycling. More power to him
That is a really nice interview. Fabian is really grounded; must be great to ride for/with him. Well done, Cam! Looking forward to more of this. Cheers, Chrissi 😃

Good insights.
One of the greatest natural riders ever.
Right up there with Luigi.
It was revealed that Luigi was actually Thomas Dekker
Great interview! Cancellera seems very balanced and on a nice track.
Such a legend. Thanks for the interview

Great video Cam. The numbers those riders do are nuts. Fabian is one of a kind!
absolutely savage numbers, plus they were in a tt position, which makes it even more impressive
Very good point about being in position!
the only thing more savage was the small dick syndrome call out 😂
The more time you spend in the tt position, the closer the numbers get to your road bike position - safe to say his numbers are probably very similar in both positions.
@@timothymburton the last 2 minutes of my 5 minute effort I was humping the bike like I’d just got out of prison.

And how much watts motor included in the Ronde ?
No the cancellera confession i was hoping for 😂
😄 Me too
Me either. I want to know what that guy was on.
Motor doper

Done when he was relaxing in a bubble bath due to electricity.
Crazy is what 450 watts is for an hour. Most people can't do 200 watts for an hour.
450w is my 1min threshold 🥲

Such a nice guy and I'm glad he formed Tudor, they've had some fantastic results this season and especially the fact they ride BMC bikes ❤
You have talked to guy that I really like about by only having information for him from races and media. Thanks.
Merckx did 455W for an hour on an ergo in Germany in Circe 1974. He weighed 76kg
Twice the power I ever produced. Fabian is a great person and is very humble.

What nobody in the comments has mentioned is his ability to REPEAT those efforts (cobbled sectors, cobbled climbs etc.). Just crazy x 2
Remember when he defended his yellow jersey at the tour against a break? That was wild
